Tribute to Carole King. She is an American treasure of a song writer. She was receiving the Kennedy Center honors award. She has 4 Grammys and has written so many hit songs for so many artists! The reason I wanted to request this was for the power of Aretha. RIP to the Queen of Soul. Great reaction🤓🤠❤️
This was a tribute to Carole King who wrote this song and also sang this song. She wrote and performed many songs and her Tapestry Album is one of the best selling albums of all time.
Carole King wrote this song especially for Aretha for her debut album on the Atlantic Records label...the start of her meteoric rise to musical immortality. She was, hands down, the best. There can be no argument.
@@bwana-ma-coo-bah425 King wrote the music; Coffin wrote the words. King also performed it herself - which is why it's performed at this event, in her honour.
Really do you people need to argue about this song, they both get credit but you see Carole also sang the song and released it on her Tapestry album, I don’t see Gerry Goffin singing or recording the song!
Thank You JD! Aretha took off that mink without missing a beat! This is Aretha's last live performance and my goodness, she still has a powerhouse of a voice! This is the Kennedy Awards honoring Carole King, who wrote this song.
This took place at the Kennedy Center Honors tribute to Carole King, the woman they keep panning to. Carole King wrote this song and is, herself a legendary singer and songwriter. Check out her own version of the song from the album, Tapestry, one of the biggest selling albums of all time.
@@filibertovevo141 , Yes she did and Aretha was still making concert appearances during this time which she continued to do until about the last several months of her life . This was one of her very last televised performances .
Yes, the tears come. This is The Kennedy Center Awards, it's held every year for the greatest entertainers of the 20th century, The lady in the box is Carole King who composed the song. I have watched this dozens of time when I need a cathartic moment in my life.
Correction Asia and BJ. This was at the Kennedy Center honoring Carole King who wrote Natural Woman. Carole King is shocked that Aretha sat behind the piano because she had not done that in years due to her ill health. Aretha was 74 when she performed this for Carole.
Aretha Franklin is a national treasure. I believe the the reason there was so much emotion in the audience is because this was recorded in the late 60s. This was an extremely tumultuous time in our history as a nation the assassinations of JFK MLK Malcon x Medgar Evers and the ongoing war in Vietnam with 58 thousand dead and the Civil Rights movement along with the hateful Jim Crow laws. This was indeed a very sad chapter in our history and to see the first black President tearing during this epic song along with a Baby Boomer croud they all had flashbacks in time. I also got emotional when hearing this performance I was born in 1960 Brooklyn I am proudly part of the era. 😢
This is an incredible performance of an incredible song. Carole King was so ecstatic and the whole room was brimming over with emotion. Makes me cry every single time.
Love Aretha!! This was such a beautiful tribute to Carole King (blonde woman in balcony who composed the song). Aretha has so many great tunes. Check out "I Say a Little Prayer", "Ain't No Way", "Angel"...the list goes on and on...Thanks so much guys for reacting to this knockout performance!🧡
This video of Aretha playing at the Kennedy Center Honors ...in Dec 2015 in honor of the songwriter Carole King..who is the woman in the rainbow suspenders and co-wrote 'Natural Woman'...has been viewed 35 million times. That's how amazing this performance was...and knowing Aretha was battling cancer and still belted this out with superstar power...it just hits like nothing else.. and,.it's brought millions of us to tears.
We all witnessed history that night. Aretha was 73 and three years later she would be gone from us. Tears every time I see this. The Kennedy Center awards and President Obama and his wife Michelle will never forget this night as Carol King was serenaded by the Queen!
ASIA! Big smile on my face right now after your little bit of singing at the end. I mean I've seen some of your videos so I know you can sing and you do it a little bit frequently, but that was wonderful. Really put some air behind it and I wish you would do that more often; it is so freaking cool. I've seen this performance of the Carole King song before and it's amazing and I also thought that the taking off of the fur coat was planned because I'm sure it was hot no doubt, but I think by her casting it off like that and showing herself just as she is at that age at that weight but proving that she has all the soul and the ability to sing in the world, that literally embodies the sentiment of the song. It's like, take me as I am.
It's great when accomplished, talented people can pay respect to one another at the end of their careers. It's like a recap of a lost era. So nostalgic!
I remember watching it on tV at home! I was jumping up from my seat hearing Sister 'Rhee singing like that! Beautiful& so so moving!!😍 Love yr show too!! U guys are really great! Keep on keeping on!❤️
This is the Kennedy Center Honors concert. The blonde woman is Carole King, who wrote this song. Ms. King was one recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors that year.
She was THE QUEEN. There are so many great songs she recorded and she had the greatest voice. She was a lady of absolute grace, dignity and majesty. In this video she was performing the song that Carol King composed as Carol was being honoured at the Kennedy Center Honors. At this time Aretha was battling cancer and yet still gave 110%. She commanded RESPECT and she got it. There will never be another like her. R.I.P. Miss Franklin. ❤️❤️
The Kenndey Center Honors are aired on CBS every year in December. They honor artist, actors in the arts. There are many youtube videos of many famous artist like Beyonce, Heart, too many to list who honor the yearly honorees. You'll have to check them out. Aretha was singing to honor Carole King who wrote the song Natural Woman. Carole has a catalog of great great songs.
At the Kennedy Space Center? :) No, Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in DC. It's a clip from the Kenndy Center Honors - a tribute to Carole King with Aretha showing up as guest. Carole wrote the song, but when Aretha shows up for an event, it's her show.

73 years old already diagnosed with cancer, she still commands the stage. Carole King was the blond lady that was being honored at Kennedy Center Honor.
This was the Kennedy Center Honors, Singer/ Songwriter Carole King was one of the honorees who wrote Natural woman for Aretha Franklin. Inspired performance from Aretha and you saw Carole King cheering her on, the blonde woman who they focused on
The lady the camera kept going to was Carole King. She was a writer of the song, which she wrote FOR Aretha Franklin's debut album in 1967. This was in 2015 when Carole King was being celebrated at The Kennedy Center Honors. Seeing her play & hearing her sing it, Carole said she kept saying to her daughter (who was sitting behind her) "Oh my God! Oh my God!" That moment in itself was a great honor. What a great clip for you to react to!
Asia & BJ, you’ll Love her "Chain Of Fools" ; "Respect"; "Spanish Harlem" and many more!!! She also did a Stevie Wonder written song called "Until You Come Back To Me" which is fantastic.!! fyi- Carole King/Gerry Goffin wrote "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" .
Anyone not crying !! Def the queen of soul ..suffering cancer at the time ...total chills ..think carole king wrote this song and Aretha sung it and knew it belonged to Aretha ..Rip Aretha ❤
That woman who keeps jumping up is Carole King who wrote the song. She had her own musical success in the 60s and 70s. With James Taylor. Also this was the Kennedy Center Honors an annual event in Washington DC honoring older artists.
That Asian brother behind Mrs. Obama started crying the SECOND Mother Aretha Franklin started crying and he cried the ENTIRE TIME! That blessed my whole soul!!!!
🩵🩵🩵 This is one of my favorite songs by Aretha Franklin, and this live version it’s just incredible, the curly hair, woman that’s Carole King, she’s a songwriter, and she wrote the song: natural woman
It’s an awards ceremony, recognizing, artist’s, of different genres, whether, it music/film, or what ever, being recognized, by peers, and admirers 😎😎😎😎👍👍👍
We've had so many wonderful entertainers, we were all so spoiled but I personally grew up with her music because of my parents, we were raised on the 50's and 60's music. The blond is Carole King,, she was the one being honored that night at Kennedy, and she wrote this song for Aretha. Carole King was also known for her songwriting.
The event is honoring Carole King (camera keeps panning to) who wrote, "You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman." Carole King wrote the song. It's on her famous "Tapestry" album. Aretha Franklin does an incredible job. I grew up listening to Carole's music, as well as, Aretha's.
Ms. Franklin was already battling cancer at this point. So to see her on the stage was incredible. Singing tribute to Carole King, the woman who wrote this song.
She was in her 70s and battling cancer and she still blew the roof off the place, truly stunning performance. This award show is an annual event, I think they give out 5 awards per year, Carole King was a recipient that yea,r and did you guys notice George Lucas the director of Star Wars, standing next to Carole? He was a recipient that year also.
Inside note: When Carole turns around at the beginning she is saying "Aretha NEVER plays the piano!". Aretha as as gifted a piano player as a singer but in concert rarely played the piano. It was a great honor to have her do so....and on that song. Also....when Carole heard Aretha's version of this song she is quoted as saying...."it's Aretha's song now!!!"
THE MINK DROP THO! Everyone was emotional because Aretha had been ill and had not been doing a lot of live concerts. She had been so sick for so long that there were rumors she was dying. So Carole King (yes, she wrote this song) was first of all surprised that Aretha showed up for her special tribute. There were other singers on the stage, so then she was surprised that Aretha was actually going to sing. But she really freaked out when Aretha sat down at the piano, because that was VERY unusual--she had not been singing and playing at the same time in concert for quite a while. Folks were so surprised and happy to see Aretha that they were ready to love it regardless--they had no idea how sick she was and whether she had "lost a step". Then she SANG the song like THAT. It was as if she turned back time. You saw the spontaneous standing ovation. It turned out to be her last public performance.
Carole King wrote this song specifically for Arethra. No wonder she was called the Queen of Soul, she could belt out a song like no one's business. I want to share a little story. I live on the east coast of Canada and my then hairdresser had a picture of herself with someone who looked very familiar. I asked her " is that Arethra Franklin " ? She replied yes and proceeded to tell me she was at a hairdressers' convention in New York ? but I could be wrong about the city, it was quite awhile ago. Anyway, she spotted Arethra going into a store to shop. My friend approached one of her entourage/bodyguard and asked if he thought she would take a picture with her and he said yes. So, when she came out , Arethra was so gracious and accommodating. I'm sure she still has that pic on her mirror at work. I know I would. Love your reactions and you have an awesome voice Azia 👍🎵😁
You have just hit the mother lode of singers with Aretha Franklin (Queen Of Soul). This lady started out singing gospel music, then R&B, but could do many genres. She had so many hits especially in the 60's-70's including "I Never Loved A Man (The Way I Love You)", "Respect", "I Say A Little Prayer", "Chain Of Fools", "Think" etc.
Asia needs to hear Carole Kings album called Tapestry. She is a brilliant songwriter and in addition to her own songs she has written many other songs for other artists.
Aretha was 73 years old. She had given up the piano for health reasons. This whole performance was phenomenal, which no one expected of a 73 year old woman. But then again, there is only one Aretha. A Carole King rabbit hole is worth going down. She's a brilliant song writer. It's too late baby is one of her best. Anything from the Tapestry album is awesome and its her defining work.
The Kennedy Honors honors important people in many areas, and has done so for many years. Aretha is singing Natural Woman written by Carole King the lady that they are panning, during Aretha's performance. You are so correct; Carole King wrote many iconic songs from the 60's, 70's, etc..
The Kennedy Center Honors is an annual event honoring great performing artists. Each year they honor 5 or 6 great artists, and usually the President attends, along with an audience of well-known performing artists. Aretha was singing to honor Carole King, the woman who wrote "(You Make Me Feel) Like a Natural Woman".
Finally! In my mind this is one of the greatest live performances ever... Aretha Franklin was 72 at the time I believe and diagnosed with cancer, yet still delivers, showing off her still incredible talent. I'd put this against any great concert experience you've ever witnessed, a true legend.
#AsiaAndBjReact Carol King is the older white lady with the medal around her neck. And she It's the one that originally done this song and they're honoring her at the Kennedy center. Any time you see a performer at the "Kennedy center" it's 1 famous band paying tribute to a inductive rock and roll hall of fame who is in the crowd up in balcony with medals around their necks. The camera will focus in on their reaction to the cover of their classic song.
Always loved this one...Carole King wrote/composed the music to this. Then I start the reaction and see this is when Carole King was honored by The Kennedy Center Honors.
RIP Aretha Franklin " Queen 👑 Of Soul " we love ❤️ you 😢 and miss you 😭 , you are immortal. World is an empty place without you. You are with Tommy Cogbil ( Aretha Franklin bassist) and fellow musicians. Big Jam session in the sky!! God Bless You 🙏.

The Queen.. Global Royalty.. Old school last of a generation No skeletons in this woman's wardrobe. Class and so humble.. This performance represents the end of so many journeys and battles.. We not there yet but Aretha sure played her part in ensuring we kept going forward and still gorgeous despite her age
This is one of my all-time favorite Kennedy Center performances. The Kennedy Center Honors takes place at the Kennedy Center Opera House in Washington DC. Thanks so much for another terrific reaction! ❤
You probably already knew, but for those who don't. The woman greeting Aretha Franklin from the crowd is Carole King, she is also not only a fantastic singer, but is one of the most accomplished song writer of all time. She wrote Natural Woman...

The Kennedy Honors honors important people in many areas, and has done so for many years. Aretha is singing Natural Woman written by Carole King the lady that they are panning, during Aretha's performance. You are so correct; Carole King wrote many iconic songs from the 60's, 70's, etc..
Asia, I've seen this 20 times or more and I cry every time.
RIP. Thank goodness for YT, and the fact that we can see these unforgettable performances for all time.
This made me cry. So beautiful!
Oh my…greatness…..shhhh- The Queen is here.❤️🎼❤️

What makes this performance even more remarkable is that she was very ill at this time. An inspiration for many & for many different reasons ❤
What a great song and she does a beautiful job
it was also singing in front of the person who wrote the song Carole King
The Queen.. Global Royalty.. Old school last of a generation No skeletons in this woman's wardrobe. Class and so humble.. This performance represents the end of so many journeys and battles.. We not there yet but Aretha sure played her part in ensuring we kept going forward and still gorgeous despite her age
ABSOLUTELY ICONIC❤❤❤❤. Even in death, she is still THE queen of soul
This is one of my all-time favorite Kennedy Center performances. The Kennedy Center Honors takes place at the Kennedy Center Opera House in Washington DC. Thanks so much for another terrific reaction! ❤
Her song "Angel" ( Gotta Find Me An Angle) Really touches you, especially those who feel alone.
You probably already knew, but for those who don't. The woman greeting Aretha Franklin from the crowd is Carole King, she is also not only a fantastic singer, but is one of the most accomplished song writer of all time.
She wrote Natural Woman...
