Today I’m gonna explain every abnormal titan that’s made an appearance in the attack on titan anime. Whereas normal pure titans can be expected to walk a certain way and eat whoever’s infront of them, abnormals will deviate from one or both of those characteristics. The first abnormal in this video is often referred to as the talking titan. Initially this abnormal was introduced in a special one off chapter written by Isayama himself, which was then later adapted and expanded upon during an OVA, however in order to fully explain this titan we need to flashback even further than this. Around 60 years before the start of the series, Ymir was a false prophet living in Marley, who was worshipped by a group of loyal followers. Those followers all believed that she was a descendant of royal blood and among them was this woman here who would one day become the talking titan. Once the group was discovered by Marlyean authorities, everyone involved was sent to Paradis island and this lady was seen directly next to Ymir before they were all turned into pure titans. In the manga we saw the result of their transformations, with the talking titan crawling besides the Ymir titan and following this moment they presumably went their separate ways. Flashforward decades later and this abnormal was just chilling in the woods when it encountered a member of the survey corps who was stranded in titan territory without a horse. By pure coincidence, this particular scout had a strong physical resemblance to Ymir even down to the freckles and because of this the talking titan mistakenly believed that she was Ymir herself.
Following this we have what is comfortably the largest pure titan to ever exist and this is of course the Rod Reiss titan. According to Armin it was double the size of the colossal which makes it around 120m tall and like a few other abnormals it’s body proportions did not make any sense. If we zoom in on this image here, you can see that these skinny legs are not built to support this disproportionally long torso and as a result the titan couldn’t actually stand without holding on to something. There are a few other things that make this titan an abnormal, with the first being the fact it chose to ignore nearby humans. Once his rampage began Rod never even attempted to eat any of people who were closest to him but rather preferred to crawl for hours until he reached the highly populated Orvud district that was miles away. No regular titan would ignore the people directly infront of them to reach people that are hours away, so that in itself makes this thing abnormal. On top of that the Reiss titan’s body emitted a super hot steam similar to what the colossal can do, hence why the trees began to catch fire whenever he approached and why the scouts had to douse themselves in cold water.
Technically speaking the Dina Fritz titan would also be an abnormal if we consider that she walked past Bertolt without trying to kill him, although, considering the full context in the manga, I think it’s fair to say her usual behaviour is that of a regular titan. - บันเทิง

For dina fritz, i’d say shes not an abnormal titan and thats because when she saw bertholdt, she was actually supposed to eat him. eren manipulated dina to purposely ignore bert and eat his mom instead in order to motivate himself to kill the titans. and her titan behavior seems typical to that of a non-abnormal, so yeah.

@@justsomegirl8447 I was thinking the same thing, but didn't all the eldians just drink spinal fluid from Zeke's. They all looked normal, or are they all literally abnormal titans. They are all controlled by Zeke, so hence its abnormal. If the the Spinal fluid or titan serum is taken in different doses, then the titan appearance changes too.
However, it's probably the reason that Zeke's heritage is royal, so royal spinal fluid makes titans a bit more powerful. But rod Reiss was also a royal member. And if the titan serum in the injection is literally spinal fluid, was that spinal fluid ordinary or did it originate from a royal member. Too many mysteries! Sorry for saying so much shit. Because rod riess titan was a mystery to me, but I just assumed it was because he has royal blood!

@@Jnfkaran111 I don't believe the whole drinking it; cause that's literally how the first shifters were made... plus there is such an emphasis on reis breaking his back that i think that played a more important role. the reason his guts spill out is the same reason he has no face; he cant stand so he moves through the terrain dragging his face and stomach so when he stands up there is no skin or anything to hold in the organs and such.
@@otaku1229 no I understand that part, but I'm just considered about why it was so tall, and is that because he only licked it. So does that mean having a certain amount of dosage can affect height? I remember on the Episode "that day" where officer gross was saying that he was gonna try to make a 3-4m titan or some shit. The same titan that ate him in that Episode. I assumed he just controlled the dosage with this needle! But I may be over speculating. I just love learning more about the lore!

Remember it said he had lots of time there and learned many powers.. also you see that Ymir spends her days crafting Titan bodies.. so he may have be able to command her abilities for his purposes 🤔🤔🤔
The immobile titan didn't give up on life, that's just the speed that it could move. You can see ground crushed behind it and fresh trees starting to regrow.
Was Ymir’s pure Titan abnormal? The fact it drank out of a lake and then went to sleep in a hole in the fetal position even through the day just seems unlike other Titans to me

i agree somewhat due to personal opinion but storywise without marley and all that lore AOT wouldnt be as deep and meaninful as it is. its storytelling about war where we are able to sympathize with all sides knowing that there is not one true villain really is a work of art depicting history and human nature
The two pure titans that fought each other were Connie’s younger siblings. In one of his flashbacks, it shows them fighting in the exact same way with one of the kids pulling the ear of the other. When they’re titans, they’re much stronger and he pulls the other titans ear off.

The Talking Titan made me feel so sad. Even though it had been 60 years and the human inside had fully integrated into the Titan body by this point, it still retained higher thought processes and awareness of its surroundings, which makes the punishment of becoming a titan seem far hellish than it already was

Dina Fritz also kills her prey before eating them, could be a sign of her lingering consciousness as a seemingly compassionate individual, by not wanting her victims to suffer while she eats them.

But we only saw Dina's titan killing people twice. One was when it ate Carla, and in that scene it was being controlled, and the other kill was uncle Hannes, who got his lower bit of his body bit off, and than the rest of him, which if you ask me, isn't a very painless way to go

It was all but confirmed that Rod became as big as he did due to the way that he got the spinal fluid, as when Gross was injected one of Grisha's friends, he said something along the lines of "I'll turn this one into a 3-4 meter", showing that there are different ways to inject spinal fluid, resulting in different sizes of Titans.
The question is how did he have an organs? Since Titans didn't have any digestive system
@@jepjep6740titans have digestive systems, just not fully. They have an esophagus and a stomach, but no further than that. We can assume rod reiss’s transformation was not complete and resulted in him retaining his intestines.
@YelloMonky the organ retention theory doesn't hold up because the Titan body is formed from nothing around the human body, not the human body growing in size. The intestines in rod's titan are a total abnormality, and are probably just there for the dramatic effect of having them spill out onto the wall.
@@sympleton7439 they do have stomachs though, and probably some othe organs to support the stomach, as eren was seen in the beard titans stomach before he first transformed
@@yellomonky4272 Yeah, Titans have stomachs, but my point is that the Titan body is not created from the Human hosts' body, but is formed around the Human host and made to resemble it. It isn't formed from the Human hosts' body itself, and therefore those intestines can't be the result of a botched transformation. I think Ymir just got bored and wanted to do something extra for Rod's Titan.

The hair is different, the face are different. It doesn't connect.
When a titan transforms while in most cases there titan resembles there human self they are always modified to an extreme extent like how when ymir(scout) transformed her titan looked nearly nothing like her except from her hair color. Also the children titans were a result of an experiment done by zeke which proved to have some flaws appearance wise. Like how Connie's mother was immobilized. There's no way that u could convince me that the glutinous titan looked like that as a human .and If u look back at the flashback there haircolors match up pretty well while it may look that sunny had more brown hair u have to remember that with the intense shadow her hair color would resemble the color used to highlight the edge of her hair.
@@xavierplays22 the glutinous titans and Ymir's titan has deformed faces, meanwhile the two titans we see have human features, those who face have at least some human features, would at least somewhat resemble, their original human face, which is not the case with these two titans, as they do not resemble martin or sunny springer. To prove my point even more, the majority of the titans we see, their hairstyle when they were first were transformed are still the same in their titan form, this isn't the case with the two titans, Sunny has long brown hair and Martin have medium length black hair, and the hair color doesnt even resemble the two kids, it is even said in AOT wiki that Sunny has brown hair and Martin has black hair.

My theory is that the younger brother is the gluttonous titan (lol), and the younger sister is just somewhere in the titan horde I think, the small titan is connie’s dad, and connie’s mother we all saw in the roof

Ross Reiss’ Titan is stranger because in the anime you could watch its point of view, which showed a lot of red glowing things behind the walls. The same red as in the second season 2 introduction theme.
This could suggest Pure Titans see in some sort of heat vision, but for spines or hearts. Maybe souls. And that’s how it detects humans. It’s probably also possible that Titans can find people so far away because of this vision.
That's very possible.
Most titans have this ability. We are only shown it through the eyes of Rod Reiss for plot reasons, but it was explained earlier.
That ability is why most of the titans on Paradis seem to gravitate towards the walls. It's also why they were able to kill all of them using the titan guillotine due to most of the titans being inside of wall maria and actively trying to get through the gate. They have a natural instinct to eat humans and to aid that instinct, they can find the most populated areas to prey on.

It wasn't an abnormal. Yeah it crawled and had red glowing eyes but I think that was added to either make it look cooler or to display how Levi saw it, but in the manga it was a normal titan

@@lllllllllllll3879 an abnormal titan is a titan who don't behave normally. The titan can possess unusual intelligence or perform unpredictable actions. The titan we see in the OVA, is an abnormal titan for a few reasons. First of all it reacted to pain, which not many titans do, secondly it tried to slash Levi with it's claws, an unpredictable action for a titan, thirdly the titan didn't even eat some of it's preys, some of it's preys still have their limbs intact, even one of the titan's prey was still barely alive, after it was attacked by the titan.

Also it slaughtered the whole squad including Farlan and Isabella, it didn't pick targets. And normal pure titans have eaten only specific body parts, like the woman who had one eat only her thigh, and another eating a soldier's whole body besides the head. Along with that most titans swing their arms to try and grab people so clawing or grabbing isn't abnormal
The smiling titan kind of is an abnormal titan because we know that she possesses some form of intelligence because she was trying to find Eren’s father.

I always wondered, since the priest was so emphatic on that sunlight must NOT touch the wall titan, maybe that could have been an alternate way of triggering the rumbling?
I tend to think it's a mixture of fact and superstition, he knows Titans need sunlight to live/be active but that's all really.

Since Eren had the founding titan he had no way to control those titans and order them to stay still. So yeah, it would have probably triggered the rumbling, but Eren couldn't control them anyway so... goodbye Paradise.

We know that the titans attacking the castle were converted from the humans living in Connie's home village. Connie mentions two siblings at one point. The two abnormal titans that seem to be playfighting came from Connie's village. I believe that those two titans were Connie's siblings. One of them still remembers, if only vaguely, fighting with his brother, and for a moment that instinct overrode whatever compulsions the titan body now gives their brains.
Did those 2 titans start trying to kill each other? I vaguely remember one ripping off the others ear.

Or they could have been controlled by Zeke, Zeke has control over the titans were turned due to his spinal fluid. Maybe because of Zeke's control over them, they're technically abnormals and not because of their abilities as humans or by chance.
Commander pixis and the other mp and garrison commanders couldn't when they were turned into titans.

In regards to the two titans fighting each other, I've seen a lot of things that heavily insinuate that those are actually Connie's two siblings from Ragako, I believe their names were Sunny and Martin? So them play fighting as siblings would make a lot of sense.
Side note, the Titan eating that little girl's mom (the one that Sasha saves, I can't remember her name) that Titan is implied to be Connie's dad, I believe.

The two titans being Connie's siblings doesn't make sense. The hair color and the hair length doesn't even match with Connie's siblings.
I think that the titan the was eating that girl's mom is an abnormal. It walks normally but it kept biting small pieces out of the mom's thigh and was even chewing on them like it's enjoying a meal.
The whole time it ignores the girl and only chases her and Sasha after the mother dies from the trauma and blood loss from being eaten alive.

Bertholdt and Lara(Warhammer Titan) don’t even have hair and Zeke is literally covered in brown hair. Hair color isn’t necessarily a rule. Also, hair length literally doesn’t matter and that can be seen even in pure titans. Obviously the hair of a giant fucking monster is different then that of a normal human.

It was the friction. Early on, you see he still has his face in-tact, eyes, nose, mouth. It's the most in-tact part of him when he forms inside the cavern. I don't honestly think that the quantity of the serum had anything to do with it. I see a lot of people pointing to what Kenny had said, but Kenny had very little knowledge and understanding of what the Titan serum was or even did, just that it turned you into a Titan.

I don't think Rod's transformation was caused by him licking the serum. While it was hinted at by kenny, kenny never knew how the titan transformation process worked. Rod confirms that the process is confidential to his family. Second, you can see that Historia and Rod initially were going to inject the serum into their veins but when Erens dad was being thrown of the wall, the serum was injected into the nape of the neck. This implies that it doesn't really matter how the serum is injected. If I had to guess. Injection to the back of the neck is convient if the person being injected has their hands behind their back. I think Rod turning into such a strong abnormal was due to his circumstance. He was in emotianally extreme circumstances with his daughter betraying him and his hope of ending titans destroyed. And we know circumstances play a part of titans becoming abnormal.
I do believe that the two small Titans that fight eachother are Connie's younger siblings, we see a family portrait of them having a slight resemblance to the two younger children.
