Music is a bit too loud, and unnecessary
Sebastian you mean you weren’t dancing to it the whole time?
Agreed, very annoying and totally unnecessary. Great unboxing, I liked it but no music at all next time please.
I think it was ok
The fact that they didnt try it on pisses me off.
'UNBOXING' video
Yeah it's *UNBOXING* not *FIRST* *IMPRESSIONS*
Adam Savage's Tested guys did a great job reviewing it. Check it out.
Doesnt matter, they where speculating what it felt like when they could have just described what it felt like. thats whats irritating.
Come on IGN, it's an unboxing video. A camera from the top view is always better.
Look at those two, they were uncomfortable as hell, trying to hold the box vertical
"We've got these fancy little ribbons"
They also totally unboxed it and looked it over beforehand to prepare. You can tell from the way he slips up and says things they "have been doing/trying" and that the frunk sticker is missing from the HMD.
Just an FYI, those "speakers" are not headphones, they are Balanced Mode Radiators, or BMR. They do not produce sound like a traditional diaphragm. Very few people have ever experienced BMR audio before, if you have, you already know ;)
For those that have not experienced BMR audio before, it's like trying to explain VR to someone who has never experienced it before. You kind have to just try it to understand what it's like. The best way to explain it simply (yes, very simplified) (don't shoot me, audiophiles) is that the sound encapsulates you, it's extremely immersive and the most accurate 3D sound you could ever experience. This is due to the diaphragm acting like how natural sound waves work. Because of the design of BMR, it also produces a very wide range and uses A LOT of power. I can imagine lots of people might have audio trouble becasue their motherboard does not support a lot of power to their USB3.0. Something to consider when you get the Index.
The audio solution is the most underrated part of the Index and what really sets it as VR gen 2.
It would be interesting to see what Dolby and DTS can do to improve the 3d sound or if the sound drivers are dialed in perfectly.
Thanks for the explanation, I had never heard of this
Wow never heard that before even from Tested, 🙏🏼 thanks!!!
You guys don't understand the device enough to review it and it's painfully evident.
Yeah they had no business going into this video so uninformed. "fov adjustment." "eye focal point" eye releife anf ipd adjustment are pretty important in a vr headset. At least learn the terminology.
This has so many mistakes, I am not hating on ign but they made so many mistakes. The knob is not a FOV slider so to say. It does adjust the FOV but it moves the screen closer to your head which increases the FOV. Also the frunk, the front compartment is not for devolepers, it is for everyone but the attachments are made by modders. Reminder I am not trying to hate, just correct your mistakes
Getting a new one for Christmas! I'm SOOOO excited! Only 26 more days!
Sheesh Tom let the other dude say a word, you're constantly interrupting him.
I dunno they interacted just fine without interruption. Shrug
Valve does so much for gaming. So much more than any other gaming company
i can't wait to get a job and buy this
Sell your body.
Isn't that two jobs for Americans?
@@pexeq i'm from belgium
I'm so hyped. I can't wait for this to arrive :-)
I can’t wait to buy one
So much inaccurate information in this video, go watch Tested's video, far better.
I am a VR noob. Do the basestations need an USB and power cable or just an USB cable to the pc? How long are the cables included for the basestations? Will I have trouble with the USB cable length for the basestations in a room 3.5x5 meters in size when my PC is in one corner of the room?
Base stations will not connect to the PC and only require power cable. Cable is 15 feet or 4.5m!
@@Kr1sVr Oh well, that is nice. Thank you for the quick answer :D
Wanted to see a test run, or them at least put it on.
*YES.*
Wow, the components look so huge to me in the box (and the box) next to those guys, unless those guys are like 4' tall.
Woooo! I'm so jealous! I can't wait for mine so thank you for the sneak peek!
Very slick
Does anyone know if this will work with a mini-display port through an adapter I really need to know because I’m going to get a razor 15 rtx 2080 laptop and I need to know if I can run the headset with all this
Knuckle controller seem so cool. Let's see if they handle well when sweat comes on hands.
they have sweat wicking materials on it
Does it run Half-Life 3?
It would be so cool if the big AAA game valve is developing is actually Half Life 3.
Not Half Life 3 but one of the leaked Valve VR games coming soon is supposed to be a Half Life prequel.
HLVR is right around the corner!
May be in the E3....
Now it does : )
Who is the guy on the left talking to?
I wish this was sold in the great white north (Canada) but alas only US and EU
Will the extra trackers that could be used for fully body tracking with the vive be compatible with the index?
Yes, but you will need to make sure you have vive puck 2.0 (vive logo is blue).
Vive 1.0 pucks (grey vive logo) do not work with LH2.0.
EVOLICIOUS ah ok, thanks man. This was kinda a make or break thing. This plus the knuckles is gonna be insane
USB light bar so when can have light up eyes on our valve
Can't wait to see the review of this. I wonder if it's better than the HTC Vive.
It's obviously better than the Vive. It's better than the vive pro in every way as well.
yay
Guy on the left did all the talking yet still got so much wrong. Please don’t let this guy do any more reviews
Too bad it's sold out for the entire year
Too bad that it isn't even aviable in my country at all.
Too bad I bought them all, but will sell you one for $5000 ;)
This is false
If there is going to be a Half Life 3, it's going to be on this.
Yup, HLVR is coming and it's being built on the Index (rumored be used as a non-VR game too!)
YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Moutorne
I donnae like it !
Can the cable on the headset be detached at all? The one that goes out from the headset and splits into 3.
Yes, and you can buy a virtualink cable for $39 if you have a RTX card.
So valve where’s the First party AAA games to support your new hardware?
3 of them are coming soon.
These three game have been coming for years now, we havnt even had a single screen shot. Ive pretty much lost hope.
Looks like the Oculus prototype
Does it run Crysis?
Yea, you can play crysis in a huge IMAX theater that surrounds you :)
Haha funny joke he said a comedy
Where the hell is the Oculus Quest unboxing?
Nobody cares XD
How much tho
At least one kidney
Watch the video again.. they mention it at least 3 times I believe.
$1000 USD for the full kit
Come on guys, the front expansion is obviously designed for Leap Motion. They had a huge presence in hand tracking technology for VR development. I'm surprised this wasn't mentioned as reference.
Valve has repeatedly said there's no explicit purpose at this time
It's been debunked, leapmotion does not fit and leapmotion has no plans for another iteration.
It wasn't designed for that specifical
Классно.Буду покупать.
what If i buy pimax with valve controller over the index headset. what will i miss from valve index headset?
Any frunk mods that will eventually come out and stereo pass-through (and 144 hz, but idk if pimax has 144hz)
Husky mentions the frunk expansion area in the front but Pimax has multiple areas for future expansion. Pimax also has a wider field of view but is limited to 90hz (5k+) (80hz for 8k) where as Index has 120hz (144hz experimental). I would expect Index controllers to be compatible with Pimax headsets because it's Steam VR but I'm not sure it has officially been confirmed. Pimax are working on their own version of the Index controllers but who knows when they will be finalized.
@@spry_guy thanks i like sim racing and open world rpg mmo games. So i was hopping 130-150 fov would be great on index Maybee next gen or pimax can make one for max 150 fov little smaller headset then 200 fov monster
@@rinkumultani6515 The Pimax has 3 settings for FOV. Small - 125, normal - 150, large - 170 (horizontal). The 200 FOV they advertise is diagnal field of view.
It’s 1 k :,(
Yaas
Instead of continually gushing about the box and the "presentation" -- which could be a cherry-picked sample that doesn't represent the actual production units -- how about you show some objectivity and present some factual information vs nerding it up?
Sorry but that's too advance for IGN's writer
That is a production unit. They ship next month.
1: That is the consumer version(box included)
2: They aren't being too technical but they are giving facts
They look so dissapointed
And still no Half-life 3 or RAYMAN 4
HLVR is still coming.
It's a shame they'll only make 2 generations of it.
🥵🥵🏆
terrible review/unboxing/podcast
Almost 2020 and this "VR" Headset still has Wires that needs to be attached to it..
Wireless is a solved problem, but it's expensive right now. That's why.
My ceiling has beams I run the cable from. Not a problem
Maybe you should learn how wireless VR is achieved. Not everyone can use it. Wireless won't be an included option for a very long time.
wolverine if you want a wireless vr headset get the Oculus Quest or if you have the budget get a vr backpack
First!
4st
lol first
Who let this clown wear a heroes sweatshirt over a Walmart button-up with a multi-colored bow-tie? These guys are like watching cavemen explain the wheel. They kinda know what it's about, but don't really know the details that make it work.
How much this thing kosts lol
First
Nope.avi
The issue with vr remains its financial access point.
The Index is extremely high-end VR. After the Index officially starts shipping out, Windows Mixed Reality devices should be going down in price, and they're already $150 - $350.
Thankfully, VR is becoming more and more accessible with every passing year.
Definitely not. This sort of equipment just 10 years ago was tens of thousands of dollars. Then went down to more than a few thousands of dollars about 5 years ago, and now around a thousand or less today.
Also consider all the other VR kits in the Index's league are all more expensive, and the Index out-specs them.
VR is very affordable, more so than console gaming.
@@evolicious nice bourgeois-esque comment.
Like just cuz you can
$1000 and no controller charger, only cables
For what....I'm fine 3D printing my own stand and using magnetic charging cables to prevent wear on the charging port.
@@DJHeroMasta yeah buddy not everyone has a 3d printer lying around lol
DJHeroMasta dude not everyone has a 3D sprinter
@@garyhamilton7810 You don't have to have one. You can have one printed and shipped to you.
The Index controllers are meant to charge via usb 3.0 off your PC, they could not supply high-powered AC adapters.
This music is dumb
OLD NERDS
Can I get a free Acer nitro 5 to game plzzzz I really want to game but I cant
You actually think people in the TH-cam COMMENT SECTION would give you free stuff? This place houses the most toxic people ever. If you’re going to beg for free stuff somewhere go somewhere else.
Half Life 3 died for this ???? Smh
Just be patient. A new Half Life game is coming to VR, and possibly later this year.
HLVR is right around the corner......
VR? Just go outside 🙃
I can't go shoot aliens outside
@@evolicious yeah you can? Just sign up for border patrol!
Gary Hamilton lol
Nobody is asking for this
Expect for millions of people. That's why it sold out in 8min and is backordered until the end of the year. LMAO.
Glad I didn’t buy it to be honest
More pointless VR junk
Well it sold out in 10 minutes so I guess people really want this pointless junk
@@isaiahkowcun1662 - GIVE IT TO ME NOW
Sorry pal. VR is far more important than whatever gets you excited.
lol, another salty peasant bits the dust.
Can you only mount the basestations to the walls? There's nothing to let them on some kind of stand or something?
Nope, you can mount them in any way, even the mounts can be positioned to be just sat on the stand. Seen here: steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/valvesoftware/images/index/BS_4.jpg
I have them standing on their own without any mounts on the bookcase and on a Box. Works fine.
