I can’t tell you how many other people that I’ve watched do this stitch. You’re hands down the BEST teacher. These foundation rows have changed my life! Thank you Robin! 🥰💜🌈
I 2nd that. ❤ Explaining that you're doing the stitch vertically made all the difference to me and that you used the thicker wool. Now I just need to practice. I keep pulling mine tight for some unknown reason. And having trouble getting into the chain.. I'm using cotton.
This is the third video I found during my research on how to do FHDC, but this is the FIRST one I found that uses a large hook and a bulky yarn to demonstrate it making it easier for me to see what you're actually doing. For this I thank you!
After watching several other videos on how to do FHDC I was ready to give up, then found your video. Thank you for explaining it so clearly and easily... I really appreciate it!!!
That is the best video I have ever seen ...thank you I wish other people would learn from you and use chunky yarn, so we can see just what we need to do Thank you once again
Okay, so, I p[robably watched a half dozen videos on doing the FHDC, and yours was the first that stuck! The tips you gave about pulling the loop a little longer and catching the two were perfect, and really helped! I'm doing a scarf that requires 200 starting stitches, and I did NOt want to try and get that with a chain! Thank you!
I came across your feather stitch tutorial. I watched it and quickly hopped over here to catch this terrific tutorial as well. You now have a new subscriber.👍 you are a wonderful teacher! Thank you.
Finally! Thank you for explaining WHY we would start crochet projects with chainless start foundation stitch! and HOW to do it... Excellent training video! tfs!!!!!!
I saw you on Littlejohns Yarn a long time ago so when I saw you had this instructional video I knew I could count on you. Agree with other comments, you are the best teacher, thank you!
Very clear concise way of teaching and showing the FoundationHDC combo stitch. I had decided I didn’t want to learn it after seeing at least a half dozen tutorials. That changed when I came across this tutorial. So much clearer to see and understand through you. Thank you so very much Robin. Now I’ve got more practicing to do before I can start my next project!!
I'm new to this FHDC ! Thank you for creating a video with larger hook and yarn that made this much easier to understand! New subby off to try this!! Hugs from Kansas USA!!
I’ve watched several videos on doing fhdc and yours is the one video that has helped it “click” into my brain so I can remember. I appreciate how you explained to try to start with going under 2 loops plus pulling the one loop a bit longer. It allowed my work to look and feel so much cleaner to work into! Thank you again! 👏🏼👏🏼
Amazing tutorial! Foundation Crochet stitches are a life changer that I cannot even go back to chains unless the pattern absolutely calls for it and there is no way to substitute it. I've seen many tutorials on this but yours is one of the best and very easy to follow with the large hook and bright yarn. Thanks a lot for sharing this great video and wish you all the best. 💕💕💕
Genius! I had a lightbulb moment when you explained when the chain was formed. Now it makes so much sense. I’m definitely going to check out your other videos. Thank you, Thank you!
I went back to look at your yarn, I love all the colors. They are so vibrant! I am looking forward to getting information on all your different yarns. Thank you
I watched 3 other videos to learn this and struggled so hard I gave up and just did the chain as normal then hdc, anyways I had to scrap the project because my foundation chain wasn’t done well. I wanted to try this again to see if it would save time and this is the only video that made it make sense to me! Thank you!
Well done on such a clear, easy to follow video. I dont always use the foundation chains so popped here for a reminder and fab video. Any newbie could follow this!
I enjoy watching your videos on crochet techniques and patterns you do such a good job thank you so much you are a great teacher easy to understand and follow 💚
Ive watcher a zillion others and got frustrated and gave up. Your video is awesome. Igot it on the first try. I think your choice of thick yarn, large hook, and speed were hands down what ineeded to see what to do and get it right. I saved itso i can refer back till i remember without looking. Thank you Robin😍
Thank you! It took a few different videos but this helped make it click, that the "chain" loop you pull up is the one you'll be working into. I had to keep pinching it to keep it separate for me to keep track of it, but it worked!
Thank you for such an easy-to-follow tutorial-I'm already thinking up uses I can put this toward. I've been looking for variations of the basic "chainless chain"-similar to your FSC-I learned years back. :)
I’m a beginner to crochet entirely so would I just add a simple “single” like stitch to turn and then continue the opposite way only doing the hdc or the fhdc on the next row? TIA
Robin, can these SC/HC/DC Foundation Chains be done in the round? If so, would you mind doing a tutorial on how do it please and thank you. It would be a game changer for me. 🖖🏽✨ 🎄
They can yes! Simply do your foundation stitches as in this video and then slip stitch to join to the 1st stitch to form a ring :) The only thing you'll need to do is use the tail from the slip knot to sew to the bottom chain of your very last stitch of the row to get a seamless look x
God I hope this helps me. I’ve just spent my entire day trying to chain 85 stitches and every time I complete a row I end up with less stitches than I started..it makes me feel like I don’t know how to count lol. I’ll try this tomorrow
Wait... FHDC is that easy....???? I just make initial chain and HDC for blanket and have to repeat twice because somehow I lost stitches 😭 This is a great tutorial. Thank you soooo very much.
I am obviously crochetly challenged because I had this video on loop, and followed the steps and ended up with something that looks nothing like the example.

This is the only video I’ve actually been able to learn foundational half double crochet from. THANK YOU
You are so welcome Anna!🥰🧶

You most certainly are a wonderful teacher! Thank you!
Thank you Joan!🥰
just brilliant and simple to follow, I finally got it to not have a gaping loop at the beginning, (2 chains only!) makes all the difference. thanks
You’re welcome, I’m glad you got the hang of it.😃🧶
Absolutely perfect video! You can actually see exactly what your doing.
Thanks for the tutorial! The thicker yarn helped to visualize the stitches much better!
Genius! I had a lightbulb moment when you explained when the chain was formed. Now it makes so much sense. I’m definitely going to check out your other videos. Thank you, Thank you!
You’re very welcome Teri!😃
Thanks so much for this! Came out perfect! So much nicer than the “chain first then go back and hdc in chain”!
I went back to look at your yarn, I love all the colors. They are so vibrant! I am looking forward to getting information on all your different yarns. Thank you
Thank you for this! I'd never done the Chainless start before, and this was -so- helpful!
Lovely simple, clear instructions. Thanks.

Thanks to you using thick yarn i was able to understand this properly
It definitely makes it so much easier Mary, especially when you are learning.😀
Thank you so much, I’ve never come across this stitch before, very useful. I’ve also subscribed and given you a thumbs up 👍
Thank you for this! You've made it very easy to understand and I am finally able to do this foundation stitch. 😊
I love this! Thank you for being so clear. I hate crocheting into a foundation chain 😂
You are so welcome Georgie!😃
Easy to understand tutorial, thanks!

You are welcome Cathy!😃
Love your nails!
Thank you, you explained it well
Much easier than the single!!!
Thank you so much!
You are so welcome Deanna!🤗🧶
So, when we are done making as many chains as we want, do we chain 3, turn and then crochet into the first chain on top?
Can i use a foundation single crochet for chevron
How do you count the stitches for the foundation stitches?
I’m a beginner to crochet entirely so would I just add a simple “single” like stitch to turn and then continue the opposite way only doing the hdc or the fhdc on the next row? TIA
The explanation by far 🎉
Thank you Georgie, I’m glad it helps!😃🧶

Does the initial ch2 count as a stitch? Or do you just count the actual “pull thru 3” stitches? Thank you for your videos!!
I personally don't count the initial ch2 as a stitch, I work from the first properly completed stitch :D x
Awesome! Thank you!!
How do you start the second row?
Having a doubt, does ch2 which u done initially, count as a hdc or not?
Really useful video, especially thanks for chosing chunky yarn 😁😊
I tend to not count it as a stitch but you can if you want to! (Not sure that answers your question 😂)
When we are counting our foundation stitches, do we count the "turning ch" on the end? I've always been confused on how to count them...
I personally count from the first actual stitch made on foundation stitches and ignore the initial chains 👍
@@HookedbyRobin Thank you!
excellent tutorial. I needed this. 7/24
Thank you Cheryl!😃

Ah no! Sometimes people find it easier once a video is slowed down.🤗 See this video on exactly how: th-cam.com/video/LIRYwkkI_4Y/w-d-xo.html
