Elder Bruce R. was truly an Apostle of Jesus Christ, a spiritual giant of Gods Great Power & Knowledge..And His Unwavering Strength & Testimony will last into all eternity, ringing in the hearts of all true disciples of Christ..forever & ever..
I remember hearing this talk as it was given. Quite something to hear it again so many years later. Now here it is, some 37 years later, and having read the Book of Mormon many times, I can solemnly add my witness to its truths. Furthermore, having studied the Bible also, I can say it is true inasmuch as it is correctly translated. If there is anyone who could say that the Book of Mormon is true or false, it would have been Elder Bruce R. McConkey. He is / was probably the world's foremost scholar of the Scriptures of all time. Despite whatever errors or imperfections in some of the wording or phrases, he has overlooked them for the ultimate objectives of the book and its purposes.
What a difference it is to hear a living apostle of God speak the truth. Pure diamond truth. Now saying that which he hopes will please the masses or the unbelievers but standing as a witness of that b which he knows to be true.
Read the book of Mormon, trust it implicitly, have complete faith in Joseph Smith, do everything he and his church teaches you to do, every day, for the rest of your life. That's the Mormon faith 101. For the Mormon faithful, this is a wonderful and inspirational message, for Bible believing Christians it is blasphemy and deep error. This man and his message is a stark illustration of the great divide between those two faiths.
With respect, we have complete faith in Jesus Christ, not Joseph Smith. We try to do everything Jesus Christ teaches us to do, every day, for the rest of our lives. It can be said that "Mormon faith 101", is faith in Jesus Christ, and that the Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ, and is a companion to the Bible (KJV), which we also read and study as we are taught. We are believers in Jesus Christ, trying to do as He said in Luke C18 V22 "come follow me". Again with respect, I ask you, have you read the Book of Mormon? Have you prayed as to whether or not it is the word of God? I promise you that if you pray about it with the intent that if God tells you it is true, that you will accept it, you will receive an answer, and you will know that it is true. The Book of Mormon was written by ancient prophets living on this continent, for us in this day. If you read it you will be able to see how the events recorded in it parallel our day. I now that it is a true book containing the word of God, written in plainness for us in this day.
I received a witness of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon in my early teenage years. Even when I wasn't active in the church and I was running around doing my own thing, that testimony never departed from my heart, mind and spirit. I am so grateful to have found the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. Without it, I am completely lost. Have a wonderful Sunday! 🌞🌞🌞
In order to bolster your claim you intentionally misrepresent the core doctrine of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Nowhere in our doctrine will you find commandments to center our faith in Joseph Smith. Every doctrine, every teaching, every goal of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is to lead people to Christ. But, as in every dispensation God calls a prophet to REVEAL Christ and His teachings to the world. In the past some of these prophets were Adam, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Peter, Lehi, Alma, and others. In the days of Noah people stood and bore testimony of the coming of the promised Messiah AND they bore testimony that Noah was a prophet of God. They said the same in the days of Enoch, Abraham, and the other dispensation leaders. In our day that prophet is Joseph Smith. The faith of members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is that salvation is in Christ. That Christ has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. That through his grace, charity, and compassion, He has wrought the intimate and eternal atonement and that in our day the prophet responsible for revealing Christ to mankind is Joseph Smith. Either you misrepresented the beliefs of The Church of 16:30 Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints innocently through ignorance or you intentionally misrepresented their beliefs in an attempt to lead people away. I love give you the benefit of the doubt and assume your comment was grounded in a simple misunderstanding. Which I hope my comments have helped to clarify.
I had forgotten what Bruce R. McConkie looks like. WOW, what power this man wielded merely with his words, because he spoke with the Spirit.
Wow...... he speaks with authority no fear no doubting
What a great talk! This talk is amazing and absolute perfection.
