    68 yr old Floridian here. That takes a fair amount of nerve camping in the gades by yourself. It can be dangerous. I'm glad it wasn't too bad. The stories I have from when I 1st got outdoors pre developed Fl are many. Imo it's a paved over paradise compared to 50 years ago so I'm glad I experienced when I did. Take a hachet and a partner the next time. lol

    FYI ! Watch for SWALLOW TAILED KITES !! It’s almost time for them to migrate north to this area (southern Florida). They roost in tall tees, magnificent birds. They’re huge with a distinctive fork tail. They are endangered, so seeing one is a huge treat! They appear to sail through the air vs flapping wings. Next trip, get a netted suit & cap that covers your entire head to help with bugs! BTW, where there are baby gators, there’s a huge Mommy close by!!! Enjoy your hike! You are braver than I !!!

    The sound may have been wild pigs. The everglades has a lot of nocturnal animals like deer, bobcats, raccoons, possums and pigs. Alligators usually stay close to the water at night.

    Another awesome video, great to see you down in my neck of the woods. The wasps were probably mud daubers they are not aggressive and won't sting unless you hurt one. Definitely gator growl at night, you were camping at a crossroad so critters traveling would pass near your tent, they follow roads like moose up north taking the easiest path. I've done some hammock camping in wet areas, just a hammock strung between trees and mosquito netting strung up over me, everything else stung up in a tree off the ground.

    I live down here. A lot of those trails you see going in and out of that water are alligators but it's also hog and deer they all walk through the water. There's also pig frogs that make sounds that sound like a pig. Alligators are always seen in seawater that doesn't stop them they're in brackish water and spotted on the beach quite often.

    Awesome camping video Post10. You are braver than me doing what you did walking through that dense undergrowth and bush stuff. Awesome Orb Weaver spiders and their beautiful webs. The gators would have creeped me out especially at night outside the tent. So much for the great outdoors and its splendid wildlife. Thank goodness you never stood on that cottonmouth snake. I was once out in Florida backwater and came across one albeit very docile and chilled on a path. A friend with me told me several were hanging from tree branches near water so we had to proceed with caution it was scary.

    It's not often I find people who have a similar opinion on spiders to me. Most people I know will go out of their way to kill them if they come inside the house because they think they're a nuisance, don't want them in the house, or they're scared of them. Which sucks as they're the best tenants to have. Largely keep to themselves, build their own accommodations, and deal with a lot of unwanted pests. What's not to like? 😅
    Me, I tend to just leave them be. Or I'll take them outside if they're really big. Unless they give me a scare by walking across my glasses whilst I'm wearing them. Had that happen a few times now and every time my reaction is to swat them away which unfortunately kills them.

    I'm surprised you didn't carry any sort of stick with you. Growing up in south Texas, whenever I walked anywhere in tall grass/trees, I'd always carry a stick to disrupt the spiderwebs ahead of me. It was almost mandatory, so you don't end up with spiders crawling up your shirt! If I rode a bike down that road, I'd definitely have a makeshift spiderweb destroyer mounted on the front of the bike lol

      @jeebus022 24 วันที่ผ่านมา +6

      @@post.10 Ah, excellent! That tripod went through hell and back again, what with the webs and salt covering! Some of those spiders can be as angry as the beavers when putting their webs back up. I'm just glad you weren't barrelling into them head first, munching on spiders as you went

    Dew forms when the temperature cools down to the dew point. Humidity hits 100% and the air cannot hold any more moisture, so condensation starts forming everywhere. The sea breeze combined with the temperature and air pressure prevented dew at the beach.

    A tip to deal with sun and flies: Bring an umbrella and put fringes all around it. It will give you shade and when you spin it back and forth in your hand, the fringes will at least make some of the flies go away.
    Granted, not so great for your hand held filming setup (consider a GoPro or similar product with a chest, collar or head mount for hikes like this), but nothing beats an umbrella when hiking on flat terrain under blistering sun. 😊

    When talking about how humid it feels , it is better to use the dew point bc the percent humidity is relative to the air temp which determines how much water the air can hold. So, a dew pt above 60° starts to feel humid and a dew pt above 70° is oppressive
