  • 2021 Chevy Malibu RS Review featuring a model finished in all black with 1000 miles on it. I initially thought that Chevy stopped making sedans, but this 2021 Chevy Malibu RS proves otherwise for now. But is the Malibu worth it? See my 2021 Toyota Camry Review: • 2021 Toyota Camry XLE ...
    Chevy makes many cars I enjoy driving like the Camaro, Corvette, Silverado, and Tahoe products. It's clear that Chevrolet can make a proper vehicle but I'm just not sure this 2021 Malibu RS is proof of that. Let me know in the comment section if you would choose a Chevy Malibu over the competition.

    I purchased the vehicle because I had previously owned a 2001 Malibu that rarely needed repair. I bought it used in 2008 and drove it around payment free for 13 years. The car still ran very well when I traded it in, so I thought why not buy a new one? I like the looks of them and am used to driving them. With all the discounts, it ended up costing several thousand less than a midsized Honda or Toyota and because it was affordable, I was able to pay cash.

    You can get these things cheaper than a Civic or Corolla. Since they tend to sit on lots for awhile, and you can get them well under MRSP. They're well below other midsizes in price. So while it's an older platform and motor, it seems to be good value

    I'm the rare person who specifically wanted a Malibu. Why? Because it's a domestic brand, designed & built sedan. I do not like SUV's for one. To me Camrys and Accords are everywhere and not unique at all. It's been difficult finding a Malibu however. I even leased a 2022 Trailblazer RS last October because no Malibu's were available. Even though the Trailblazer had a lot of features, it wasn't a great quality vehicle and felt cheap. Two days ago driving by the Chevrolet dealership I noticed a single new Malibu RS on the lot. Thankfully I was able to swap leases and finally get a Malibu. To me it's a fantastic car. Comfortable, decent styling and stands out compared to the Asian competition. I don't need a fast car, just a good looking larger car that rides like a living room on wheels lol. If the Impala were still available I'd have jumped on that. So far the Malibu is everything I hoped it would be.

    I bought one new in 2016 (not the RS model) and kept it until last year. It was exactly what it was intended to be. A midsized, fuel efficient sedan. The interior was nice enough and the leather wasn't premium but it was decent. Never had any issues with it other than some computer updates the first year. You won't win any drag races with it, but I'm guessing if you buy one you're probably not interested in drag racing anyway.
    I never got the fuel economy that chevy claimed (in fact it wasn't even close) and the tank was smaller than I'm used to so I felt like I was filling up constantly. It was still better than the 3.5 L Maxima that I had prior. My biggest complaint was the stop start feature. Not that it didn't work fine I just didn't like it and as I mentioned it didn't seem to help with fuel economy. I was told that there was a way to disable it but it would void my warranty so I just lived with it.
    Overall I thought it was a nice car for what it is and I wouldn't have a problem owning another one, although I am interested in how they hold up long term 8+ years.

    • @jayt1077
      @jayt1077 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can disable the stop start feature in the 2016s by shifting into L6. When you manually shift the car to sixth gear it disables that stupid feature.

    Honestly, I tend to disagree a bit with the swagger kinda thing. Sure, it doesn't look the worst on the outside, but there's things about it that really dampen it's presence. There's no wide or long hood or anything, and while it does look sportier than the others, I would say it has as much presence as a blacked out Traverse. Now, I have a hot take here- Ford should bring back the Mondeo/Fusion. Just, brand the thing Mondeo and sell it through the world, with a WIDE range of trims. Everything from a base-type one, to a platinum-type one that's about on par with a mid range Lincoln, and ST and RS variants, perhaps ST/RS200s. Ford is already making a wagon based around the fusion because they know what they have. If they expanded it and added full-ev options, I would personally take that over any Camry, Malibu, or other sedan in that range.

    American Brands actually makes good exterior design. and I do see a lot of good looking cars in the street until I realize its Chevy or Ford . its just no confidence!! they rust really fast . I have a 2007 Toyota Camry looks awesome and runs solid but my coworker got 2014 Ford Fusion the paint on that Ford in the Back of the Trunk area bubbled up looks like thin layer of plastic. and the brown rusty color coming from underneath it . I see that a lot of GM and Ford and Dodge vehicles they rust and the transmission. and the engine as soon crossing that 75K . prepare your self for big mechanic maintenance or trade it for another car !!

    I would emphatically not purchase this vehicle. At all. GM does not support their entry level cars. It may be a decent car, but I'll take a Kia K5, or a Camry (Any model), Accord ( any model). That raspy, unrefined engine with a CVT can't match the refinement of the Honda setup with a 1.5T turbo/CVT engine in the Accord. And I don't want to know what the reliability will be with that super noisy engine/tranny. Super plastic cheap interior that looks like crap now and WILL fall apart in 60K miles. They built these cars for rentals and n*ggas with bad credit.

    I just think Chevy is totally just mailing it in in the midsize sedan segment. I also agree with the other commenters about the rental car vibes of this pile. As an A to B this might be alright for someone who doesn’t put all that many miles on their car in a year like maybe 5000-10,000. Chevy will never get a foothold in the mid size sedan segment with the likes of Hyundai, Kia, Mazda, Subaru, Toyota & Honda by putting out 💩 like this thing. But they probably don’t care either.

      Seeing as how they plan to stop making them and earn most of their money off crossovers and trucks, it's not surprising they don't care about them.
      It's kind of a shame. Some extra effort on the interior and more standard safety features would have helped it a ton.
