My niece is into the cult of the lamb game, and she went as the lamb for Halloween. My brother had to tell our parents that she was a lamb queen so that they wouldn't flip out. . . which the have done in the past with me. I've been wearing a very close friend of mines pentacle since he passed in 2008, and in the beginning they completely freaked out about it, screaming for hours, telling me that I'm evil etc. Also, I absolutely loved the sushi eating cat game

They see a world full of people who believe just like them. They can not fathom the idea of people not having a belief in deity. It is all black and white, good and evil. It is sad. But there are different commandments in the list. There is also the Nohide commandments. I assume you are not picking and choosing which commandments you prefer based on your own ideology. You obey or not obey. That is your choice. But you are clearly not abiding by God's law as stated in the Bible
As a kid, I had a a friend whose family was the Flanders type, and they seriously weren't allowed any video game that had whatever form of violence in it. Even stuff like Super Mario (jumping on enemies and stuff) was banned in that household, because Christianity ya know. Anyhow the only game that I ever saw them play was Sim City... and all they ever did was built cities to unleash earthquakes, fires and that godzilla type event that left it all in ruins. True story!
The cult of the lamb is commentary on how cults form. It is a great simulator that gives you a good view of the bite model. You can actually use the model while playing the game. A great way to educate yourself and others about cults and how they form. Good conservation starter.

Yeah, I'm a psych major and it's really well done. I also liked that you can BE merciful and not always sacrifice your followers, but it is also very easy to be as brutal and scary as a lot of real life cults.

No joke, I collected Pokemon merch when I was a kid in the late 90's/early 2000's. I had books, comics, plushies, keychains, posters, etc. One day, my mom came into my room and told me she found out Pokemon meant "pocket monsters" and forced me to throw out all my Pokemon merch. My wife is literally the proof of what you're saying. She grew up in a charismatic Christian cult in Ridgecrest -- a shithole town in southern California -- in the 1970s. She lived in an actual compound -- I've been there and seen it. She believed sex was evil and horrible and degrading and bad... until she tried it and that's when the whole thing fell apart. "They lied about this, what else did they lie about?" It didn't help that at that time, her mother was shacked up with someone who had some money, so the leader of the cult said it was OK, "God put them together". My wife saw that the whole fucking thing was a lie. To be fair, I didn't try to deconvert her, but I'm just about as skepitcal and irreverent as they come. I didn't directly challenge any of her beliefs unless she asked me what I thought. We both got deep satisfaction about me being _exactly_ what her mother warned her about.

Most of us have left entirely and are vehemently anti-religion. Especially the indoctrination practices that come with them and how traumatic those can be for kids specifically. Often leaving people with irrational guilt and feelings of inadequacy, because religion, especially Christianity, beats that guilt and inability to measure up into your head. “You’re not enough.” “You were born evil and can never be good on your own.” How can people think that telling children this is not abuse?
Can confirm. Fundamentalist Christianity left me with severe low self esteem, thinking I wasn't worthy of life, suicidal, depressed, etc. It was only after leaving the faith I finally found joy in life, because I no longer believe I'm a broken "sinner" in need of salvation. But a human worthy or love, dignity, and respect. And I've seen the damage it's done to other Christians. My dad was the sweetest, most loving person I know. Yet he called himself a "monster" since he wasn't perfect and had no self worth. I think Christianity had a lot to do with that, on top of his childhood trauma. He didn't see himself as the amazing person I saw him as. And it left him with severe anxiety and self-hatred.

This, I haven’t went to church for 2 years now and as dumb as it may sound, it’s been so much less stressful to just enjoy little things. Like watching shows with gay leads, recently I bought Cult of the Lamb because it was so cute and haven’t put it down (when I would have been extremely guilty or wouldn’t mention I’m playing it to anyone.) Exploring fashion and what I like without worry about if it’s modest or too out there. Just cursing and not feeling guilty although I pick and choose where to do it. There’s so much people in religion try to control about your everyday life that you don’t realize. I have a younger cousin doing Art in college and she has the barrier of thinking any form of nudity is bad so, she having a hard time studying human anatomy to be accurate.

The most rebellious thing I did growing up was playing a Pokemon Emerald game a neighbor lent me. The first thing I did after turning 18 was watch the Harry Potter movies I stayed a Christian until I was 22 because it took me that long to process the trauma. You know what drove me from Christianity? It was the holier than thou housewives deeming me possessed because I was disabled. When I was a fundamentalist Christian, raised that way and deprogrammed myself, the very first crack in my programming came from realizing the nature of the Bible. Hearing about the apocryphal books, learning about the church councils that explicitly picked and chose what books made the cut and which did not, that was the first sign that I wasn't following a rational belief system. My mom used to be this way whenever she saw a game that my father bought me for the PS2 back in the day. The Pokémon cards thing hits different. My uncle’s collection of cards he collected when he was a kid came into my possession, and it was no small handful, it was an entire shoebox full of originals with some pocket monsters, darks, team rockets, etc. My dad “accidentally” left them out while he was moving us out of the old apartment about 6 years ago I think at this point, and they got water damaged. My niece is into the cult of the lamb game, and she went as the lamb for Halloween. My brother had to tell our parents that she was a lamb queen so that they wouldn't flip out. . . which the have done in the past with me. I've been wearing a very close friend of mines pentacle since he passed in 2008, and in the beginning they completely freaked out about it, screaming for hours, telling me that I'm evil etc.

But there are different commandments in the list. There is also the Nohide commandments. I assume you are not picking and choosing which commandments you prefer based on your own ideology. You obey or not obey. That is your choice. But you are clearly not abiding by God's law as stated in the Bible
As a kid, I had a a friend whose family was the Flanders type, and they seriously weren't allowed any video game that had whatever form of violence in it. Even stuff like Super Mario (jumping on enemies and stuff) was banned in that household, because Christianity ya know. Anyhow the only game that I ever saw them play was Sim City... and all they ever did was built cities to unleash earthquakes, fires and that godzilla type event that left it all in ruins. True story!
The cult of the lamb is commentary on how cults form. It is a great simulator that gives you a good view of the bite model. You can actually use the model while playing the game. A great way to educate yourself and others about cults and how they form. Good conservation starter.

Yeah, I'm a psych major and it's really well done. I also liked that you can BE merciful and not always sacrifice your followers, but it is also very easy to be as brutal and scary as a lot of real life cults.
AND learning about cults is pretty much one of the biggest motivation i had in finally leaving christianity. so yeah, i think this game is showing him exactly what christianity looks like but he can't tell (or he's intentionally misleading, which is likely too). he doesn't want people to realise that this game is SAYING that these religious behaviours of the game ARE christian and are religious and are also cult-like. bc people don't want to be part of a cult knowingly and thats why some people leave, like i did.
Wow it really follows the BITE model? I've only seen some streamers play it intermittently so I'm not that well informed about it. But I spent half my life living not that far from Clearwater which is essentially mecca for Scientologists. When you live that close there are typically two types of people. My wife is literally the proof of what you're saying. She grew up in a charismatic Christian cult in Ridgecrest -- a shithole town in southern California -- in the 1970s. She lived in an actual compound -- I've been there and seen it.
She believed sex was evil and horrible and degrading and bad... until she tried it and that's when the whole thing fell apart. "They lied about this, what else did they lie about?" It didn't help that at that time, her mother was shacked up with someone who had some money, so the leader of the cult said it was OK, "God put them together".
My wife saw that the whole fucking thing was a lie. To be fair, I didn't try to deconvert her, but I'm just about as skepitcal and irreverent as they come. I grew up in the church. One that had this approach. And you’re exactly right about the affect it has on the kids. A few of the troubled kids cling to the views into adulthood. Most of us have left entirely and are vehemently anti-religion. Especially the indoctrination practices that come with them and how traumatic those can be for kids specifically. The religious trauma is a real thing with far reaching consequences for people’s self esteem. Often leaving people with irrational guilt and feelings of inadequacy, because religion, especially Christianity, beats that guilt and inability to measure up into your head. “You’re not enough.” “You were born evil and can never be good on your own.” How can people think that telling children this is not abuse?
Can confirm. Fundamentalist Christianity left me with severe low self esteem, thinking I wasn't worthy of life, suicidal, depressed, etc. It was only after leaving the faith I finally found joy in life, because I no longer believe I'm a broken "sinner" in need of salvation. But a human worthy or love, dignity, and respect. And I've seen the damage it's done to other Christians. My dad was the sweetest, most loving person I know. Yet he called himself a "monster" since he wasn't perfect and had no self worth. I think Christianity had a lot to do with that, on top of his childhood trauma. He didn't see himself as the amazing person I saw him as. And it left him with severe anxiety and self-hatred.

This, I haven’t went to church for 2 years now and as dumb as it may sound, it’s been so much less stressful to just enjoy little things. Like watching shows with gay leads, recently I bought Cult of the Lamb because it was so cute and haven’t put it down (when I would have been extremely guilty or wouldn’t mention I’m playing it to anyone.) Exploring fashion and what I like without worry about if it’s modest or too out there. Just cursing and not feeling guilty although I pick and choose where to do it.

It was the realization that people outside of the faith (cult) were NOT HORRIBLE BAD PEOPLE DESERVING OF EVERLASTING TORMENT.
These "cultural" things are just scapegoats. Things for them to blame when their children leave the faith. And I'm fine with that. It means that they will never know the real problems and more children will make it out of these groups and to safer places where they can find help. The world is becoming a smaller place, and especially with social media the fundie's can't stop everything from getting through, and even the most devout children grasp for those small glimpses of reality like a dying man grasps for oxygen (take it from someone who knows). They will fade into obscurity and we will move on without them. Good riddance.

When I was a fundamentalist Christian, raised that way and deprogrammed myself, the very first crack in my programming came from realizing the nature of the Bible. But at least when she asked how I got my morals without a deity, she shut right up when I told her I had to actually think things through rather than being a heathen, partly because that’s how we evolved as social creatures. She at least recognized biology for what it is, but she’s still about 140 years behind on racial science.

First off, the four gospels were chosen because they were most popular, not because they were the earliest (were that true, they would probably have only used the earliest out of the four, especially since they seem to contradict one another regarding Jesus' ancestry, divinity, and acts.)

The Pokémon cards thing hits different. My uncle’s collection of cards he collected when he was a kid came into my possession, and it was no small handful, it was an entire shoebox full of originals with some pocket monsters, darks, team rockets, etc. My dad “accidentally” left them out while he was moving us out of the old apartment about 6 years ago I think at this point, and they got water damaged. I know it probably wasn’t an accident because he said stuff like “I shouldn’t be interested in that stuff anyways” and “it’s for the best”. He destroyed his own brother’s, now my possessions, expensive and rare ones, over religion. It’s things like that that made me not want to live with him. My mom’s not much better but at least she’s less extreme
I was also banned from Pokemon because of the word "evolution".
My grandmother made me burn my yugioh cards because she thought demons were coming from them and causing her to have mood swings (She was in the early stages of dementia). My mom ended up buying me a bunch of packs and starter decks as a result before telling her I can have them if I want and there’s nothing she can do.

I love cult of the lamb. I have a 5-year-old, and I probably wouldn't let them play with me. The imagery can be kind of spooky, and I don't really like playing fighting games in front of them. There are certainly worse games you could play with the child, and obviously the age of the child is a big factor as well.

I grew up in a protestant Christian household, and while I was allowed to get video game magazines, my dad would go through them first and either stick pages together, rip out pages, or use a marker on things that he thought seemed "evil". Strangely, this included at least one or two screenshots of Donkey Kong Country because they had reddish ground in them and so he thought they were representing Hell...
As a Donkey Kong Country player... That'd be DKC 2, the literal *_volcano_* levels. As in, you're going in an active volcanic area, going around the volcano to get up to its caldera (is that the top of a volcano, I'm not up on my volcano anatomy) for the boss fight (against an evil pirate cutlass that you yeet into the lava).
The only other red ground level I can think of is DKC 3 but unless he thinks hell is a foundry or a sewer...

Hey Emma. I live in the US in Colorado and there was a shooting at an lgbtq+ club that I was planning on going to the day of the shooting. It is heavily implied that it was a hate crime but most places just won’t be very clear about it. I was hoping someone with a platform would talk about it to spread the word and help some of the victims and the victim’s families however possible, as well as better informing people about the event. I am putting lights in a plastic tree instead of setting one on fire. Talking about the children who are raised by people like this really hit home because I live in the USA in the south and the way this guy talks and believes is right in line with how most adults think here. It’s honestly awful because so many LBGTQ kids here are struggling because of this thinking.
