I was chewing gum one time so I got the usual “do you have enough for everyone?”. I did. The thing is this was the classic superhero water tattoo gum. Say “of course I do m’am. *pulls up sleeve to show Spider-Man on my shoulder* with great power comes great responsibility.” Most people left that hour for the bathroom.

I am a professor, and believe me, plenty of teachers and professors (those with souls) hate these rules too. At the beginning of the covid-19 lockdown, my learnéd colleagues and I were expected to fill in a spreadsheet detailing everything we had done during the day to prove we were still working during lockdown.
Yeah, that went well. Asked a group of highly educated, professional people with very good memories who are highly literate to justify their jobs by writing down everything they did in a day. All of us wrote EVERYTHING we did. Each day. We're talking elegant, gorgeously formatted, correctly referenced thousand-word essays on ordering paperclips and going to the toilet. Without any kind of discussion each of us independently decided to completely swamp the admin with essays on the minutiae of our everyday lives.
Funnily enough, after the first week of lockdown, we had a memo through to say we no longer had to complete our record of work anymore.
Next time your teacher or professor has to enforce a dumb rule, look into their eyes- there is a good chance they hate it as much as you do.

Not so much a school rule but a dumb rule from a college professor. The narcissist came into the classroom, left his hat on his desk and went to use the restroom, got into a long winded conversation with another professor that lasted a half hour over the start of class. Our college rules said that if the professor was about a half hour or more late, we could leave. We did. The next day the professor said “Because I left my hat on my desk, you should have realized that I was here. I’m marking you all down for missing yesterday’s class.” The next day he came into the class and found our hats left on our desks, but no students in the classroom.

My school thought they were smart by locking the bathroom doors requiring someone to sign and get a key to use the bathroom. They did this to prevent people from prevent people from vandalising the bathroom which is honestly pretty fair but what if there were to be an emergency? Anyway nobody could stand this rule and everyone swore they would break down the door. Nobody did anything, they were all talk. A week went by... now enter me, I had a runny nose that day and needed to grab some tissues to wipe my nose. I probably could have easily just got a key to the bathroom but no, there would go my precious 1 minute. I walked up to the door and attempted to kick it down. I don't know what went through my head but I just decided life was too boring gotta spice it up. I didn't think I could actually kick the door down since it was nearly 5 cm of wood so I just gave it a kick using about 75% of my power. My plan was to just walk away originally but like I said I was bored of following rules. I thought hey, I'm already here, why not give it a proper shot. I put in a little technique and power and my leg went straight through the door, busting a hole through it. Casually walked in, grabbed a few tissues and walked out as if everything were normal. It was like some shit you would see in a show. Was pretty impressed with myself. Next day the principle was up giving his morning shit-talk and at the end mentioned the door and how he knew who did it and they would be expelled immediately. I learnt from experience that it was a bluff and was never called out for it. Ever since then they wouldn't dare lock the door in fear that somebody would break it, wasting their time and money.

I always hated Bathroom restrictions especially in High School. I remember we had passes in our agenda and for each semester (9 weeks a semester and 4 semesters) we got three passes. We were given 2 minuted to get from class to class, combined with narrow hallways and needing to use the restroom at this time a lot of kids would be late and when the teachers saw them they would always come off with "You should have went before class" in an arrogant tone. Kids should be allowed to go to the fucking bathroom, these aren't urges we can control we can't schedule a piss for three. I remember I had to go to the hospital before a math test for an MRI (Basically I learned I had Gallstones and needed surgery) Any who I was given some medicine and as a side effect of it I had Diarrhea. I got to the math class and 30 minutes in Nature calls, I didn't have anything on me as I was late and basically told the teacher and literally ran out of the room and was in there until 10 minutes before class ended. I got back and the bastard teacher legit threatened me that he was going to only grade half my test because I hadn't taken the time to sign my little Agenda hall pass. Luckily he didn't but the sheer gall to even consider failing me for something I could not control astounded me.

The dress code one reminds me of a Dutch woman I used to know, who was an office manager in one of the EU countries (not sure which one). She got a new boss, ex-military, who didn’t like the ‘business casual’ dress code and insisted that her Reception and Admin staff switch to a uniform. He even picked out the one he wanted them to wear. There were two things he wasn’t aware of - one, if it’s a dress code, you buy your own clothes, if it’s a uniform, your employer has to supply it, and secondly, the option he’d chosen made no allowances for very tall women, very short women or pregnant women. The first day of the new uniforms, he strolls in to do an inspection, and finds the head Receptionist, who was 4’8 and a size 0 swimming in a tent of a uniform, and one of the part time receptionists in floods of tears, trying to cover her pregnant belly as it bulged out of her blouse. Then, to cap it off, the Dutch are the tallest country in the world, so in comes the Dutch office manager to see what the commotion is, and her uniform skirt is so short, you could almost see her hooha, and she calmly pointed out that the company had spent over €2,000 kitting out staff in badly fitting uniforms, and the Finance department wanted to know which budget it was coming from. He did not last much longer there.

What I cannot fathom is how said ex-military did not even try sizing. Soldiers are not cookie cutters. Male and female will be different sizes. You do not order just the medium uniform and pray it will work.
Pregnant I give a pass because men can be bloody ignorant of the needs of a pregnant woman. So this particular stupidity is not singular.

Our school made a rule that was "Absolultely no Graffiti Tools Allowed" so I stopped bringing in pencils and pens and such to school. When the teachers told me it was my responsibility to bring in just such items, I said I was not allowed. this lead to me asking them to define Graffiti Tools, and they said anything that could be used to deface school property. So I asked one of my classmates to let me borrow their pencil and wrote "Graffiti" on my desk.
I got sent to the office, every student in my class stopped bringing in anything to write with. Then multiple classes had this problem. They eventually removed the rule.

A few. One in particular comes to mind.
I worked in a tech office. The guys I worked with were typical dudes. Hard working but also snarky. During down time, we would chat and any time someone made a double entendre (think "that's what she said" kind of thing), it became a tradition for everyone to shout "Ding!"
Well, some thin skinned person reported it to HR and they banned the word Ding. They thought that would be the end of it.
    Nope.
We just changed it to "ping". And since ping is an actual technical term ("I need to ping your IP"), there was nothing management could do about it.

At my secondary school (aged 11-18 for y'all Americans and such), we had a Tuck Shop, as some British schools do, which sold sweets, crisps, soft drinks etc. during morning break. There's a British chocolate bar called a Freddo which is basically a milk chocolate frog wearing overalls, about the size of your hand. When I started school there, it was 5p. This was printed on the packet. Then, recession started, blah blah blah, Tuck Shop prices went up. Freddos were sold for 10p then 15p then 20p for this teeny chocolate bar.
Now, some of the kids at my school had to get the train in. They got the train into the city then did the 20 minute walk from the station to the school. A walk which went through the city centre. One enterprising young guy in my tutor group started buying them in packs of 50 - which was a lot cheaper than buying 50 separately - then selling them to people in our year for 10p. Half the price of the Tuck Shop and at a decent profit to himself. Teachers didn't notice until he started selling to other year groups then he quickly got shut down. We were in Year 9/8th grade at this time.
Now my school was built on a hill. There aren't any houses around it. You come off a roundabout and go straight into a side road to the school. In Year 10, Domino's, a takeaway pizza shop, was built at the bottom of the hill, right by the roundabout. Sixth formers (16-18, juniors/seniors) were allowed to leave campus and a habit started of "I don't like today's lunch menu. Let's go to Domino's." This did not please administration and they were subsequently banned from leaving campus until the end of the day. However, Domino's also does delivery service. "Hi, please bring the pizza up to the school please. I'll be waiting . Thank you!" This was also subsequently banned, but it took administration a long while to actually get round to it. 😂

Highschool in the 90's, and short shirts (showing navel) and low necklines (some also showing navel) had just become "popular fashion"... AND the school created a dress code for the girls not to wear "midriff shirts" or "necklines below the clavicle"... I was already into leathercraft a bit (from D&D props) and branched out to sewing. I took a girlfriend's turtleneck and created a heart-shaped hole in the center of her chest... ran it through the machine to put a "professional seam" on it, and returned it to her. SHE absolutely LOVED this friggin' shirt... AND it wasn't two hours before the principal had her in his office... called her parents... Only her dad was a lawyer!
Two weeks later, and practically EVERY girl in the school had various shaped holes professionally sewn into their shirts... showing EXACTLY what that dresscode had been designed to stop! I was only one guy, so I only know where a couple hundred of them got their work done... I imagine others had very good natured mothers and fathers, or some deep pockets for "clothing adjustment" services. I don't even know where the hell to go to get something like that done around here. o.O
This is the first I ever bragged about it. I never needed recognition. I just thought it would be funny, and she picked the shirt to "adjust"... agreeing with me. BUT I made some pretty kick-ass coin for a highschool kid without a job that year... so whoever made money, more power to 'em! ;o)

In 1st grade the school sent out an email to all parents warning about a karate dojo because I used some poorly executed techniques on some girl who was being mean to my friend. I was never very good but to all those fist graders it looked amazing. So anyway the school sent out an email about how the dojo set “a dangerous precedent about physical violence” and any further use of karate on school grounds would be met with “severe consequences.” Next week I went in for lessons and about half my class was there as well as a lot of other people from different grades who had seen the email and decided that karate sounded pretty cool. Some of the people who joined actually continued lessons all the way through high school, and competed in tournaments. In that year there were several instances of teachers mistaking sparing for real fighting and students getting pulled into the office. The school eventually sent a rather rude email to the dojo’s sensei, asking her to keep her students in line, so the school organized an assembly for her to come in and explain that karate wasn’t that great. Instead, she and her partner (this was before gay marriage was legalized) gave a karate demonstration for the whole school, and next week even more people from my school had signed up for lessons. My parents eventually pulled me out of the dojo and made me join a swim team, but when I left the Dojo’s ranks had tripled, it was amazing. And it all happened because some girl said my friend was an idiot, and I roundhoused her in the stomach.

When I was in high school, we had, I think, a 30 minute lunch period. It took like 5 to 10 minutes to get from class to the front of the cafeteria line to get something to eat, leaving 20 minutes to find somewhere to eat and actually eat. Students would sometimes get in fights at lunch and the administration, and their infinite wisdom, came up with the brilliant idea of reducing the lunch period to 25 minutes, and then 20 minutes. With each subsequent reduction in time, rather than fights being reduced, fighting increased, because the competition to get to the front of the cafeteria line and actually get food and actually find a place to eat had increased. Everyone was scrambling to try and get lunch while they could and there was literally not enough time. Just imagine a bunch of hangry teenagers just trying to eat lunch and having no time to do so. The administration thought that students were fighting because they were bored and had too much time on their hands when, in fact, the opposite was true. The administration never figured it out and they just kept making lunches shorter and shorter for the rest of the school year, while fights at lunch were out of control. I literally just stopped eating lunch at that point and would eat when I got home. Many students would eat in class, and not all the teachers were okay with that, but some of them were.

At my high school you had to have the small drawstring backpacks instead of a big backpack because according to the school board it would be harder to sneak a weapon into a small backpack. The rule lasted a long time until my senior year when a girl brought a knife to school in a small backpack. They reversed the rule when we went back to school.

In eighth grade the staff thought it’d be a great idea to give us assigned seats at lunch, to “decrease fights.”
Long story short we started around 3 riots, a teacher pushed me into the table and threw another girl to the ground, and these girls on the last day decided to fake fight to give a message. After the fake fight everything went back to normal and the principal came to our classrooms to *APOLOGIZE* and tell us he didn’t know what was going on at lunch until the 2nd-3rd day. The teacher that got physical with me and other kids never got in trouble. He was my algebra teacher.

Once at my school, they had this after school club called ClubHouse, where you could play games on your iPad and play board games and stuff. They had a snack time at the beginning and after you could play and sometimes go outside. So, kids kept misbehaving and they added this new rule: if a staff caught you doing something you shouldn’t, they would give you a slip of paper (I forgot what they were called) and if you got a certain number of them you would receive different punishments like: Sitting by the wall, no electronics, no recess and stuff like that. Kids started making teams and competing to see who could get the most and be the “Baddest Team” and the “Baddest Kid.” So kids would try to break rules to “earn” the slips of paper. The staff got really really pissed and did not realize it was happening until about a week into the competition, when the after school ClubHouse was completely mad. Kids breaking rules all over the place. There was even a rumor that some of the staff were helping teams. It was super fun and they eventually removed those. Even though they did kids were still trying to be the baddest

Our super intendant put a rule on our library that there is no eating or drinking on the “soft furniture”. We’re allowed to eat and drink (especially in our old library) and be in there during lunchtime. This rule was brand new and wasn’t announced. One day I sat down on the floor to use a table in the soft furniture to do homework, and I had a drink from our school store with me that I put on the table. I wasn’t drinking it and it was closed. I got written up for it. Nobody told me that I couldn’t have a beverage there. They only said I couldn’t drink it. Smh I hate school administration. They tried giving me detention.

So when I was in elementary school, we had this one weird principle (don’t worry she only lasted 2 years) she was like maybe in her mid 30s and was super safe. She noticed that most of the kids would run to there lines in front of there classrooms. She wanted kids to walk so she made a new rule: when the lunch or recess bell rings you must freeze and sit on the blacktop (which was pretty dirty ngl) then the lunch ladies would all blow there whistles once EVERYONE was sitting down. Everyone hated the idea obviously. Many kids would refuse to sit or freeze, leading for the freeze to last forever. We would get in trouble from our teachers because some kids which might not have even been in our class were “wasting our class time”. This went on for a good 1 or 2 months until finely they realized it wasn’t working and just went bravo to normal, thank god.

Not as bad, but one year the incoming freshman class was larger than the other 3, by nearly 40 kids.
We started that year by having 4 lunch waves instead of 3. But we still had the same amount of time.
By the time I went to lunch, instead of the normal full lunch room, there were now kids having to eat in the halls or stand in front of the offices. All because the kids had less time and the cooks had less time to peel for the next wave.
Instead of rushing back to class, kids would take as long as they wanted to and ended up skipping out on the second part of class.
They tried to make it work for 4 weeks, but gave it up when kids were now getting detentions and tardies for just eating in a reasonable time.

At our elementary school (6 to 9 years old, sometimes 5 to 9), it was the bus seating chart. They were trying to get kids who were rowdy together separated. Unfortunately, someone would sit in someone else's seat often times, which would mess up the entire system and the bus would just be full of kids screaming at each other for being in their seat. The other kids would then scream back that they couldn't move because someone was sitting in their own seat. The seating chart did not last long.

School implemented rule “Use the restroom of the gender you were born.” Trans guy with extremely supportive parents took it for a while, used the girls restroom. At one point he got fed up and told his parents, who accused the school board of being transphobic. The school I go too has a no-bullying/discrimination policy. I really, really wanted them, i watched the cartoon obsessively and watched the other boys battle at play time, just waiting for the day my mum got me one. Months pass, it's my birthday. I get one. it's the happiest day ever. i bring it to school excitedly. But then theres an announcement at assembly: "Due to children getting upset at the practice of trading bayblade parts, bayblades are from now on banned from school". Cue my heart being utterly broken. I never once got to battle my bayblade with my friends at school. This really makes me think back to Middle School when we had this big fundraiser every fall. We would raise a ton of money and then in October we had a big event on a Saturday. There was something like a quarter-mile course that went around the school campus, and for some reason, they took the hilliest path possible. Anyways, there was a strict no running rule enforced, and if you did run, they would make you run another lap. Before the race, the DJ would always repeat “No running please, violators will have to do another lap.” Mind you, the event was called the Stampede, and as far as I remember, a stampede includes a large group of animals running in unison. Well, by my last year, most students had taken enough and decided to go all out. It wasn’t like we weren’t running in the past, but now everyone was doing it. When they started the race, every student took off, and I was able to do 5 loops before giving in, but some cross country kids kept on going. After running something like 17 laps, the organizers finally gave in and handed the kids their medals for finishing. Although that was my last year, I was informed by my younger sister that the “no running” rule was removed from then on.

Omg, I have a fun story about this. I think it was back in January 2019. In my country, High Schoolers have always had the freedom to go outside at anytime even during class hours which sometimes would result in teachers asking students to go buy them food from nearby vendors.
Anyways, January comes and a new semester begins. Out of nowhere, the school decided to close all the gates and no one was allowed to leave, not even at lunch. This was implemented for the second week of class. Monday comes and I rushed to the second floor of the school at lunch time (where a bunch of people and I could see the back gate). Around a hundred students waiting for the very moment the first teacher leaves for lunch. A soon as the gates begin to open, a stampede of students ran and the security guard couldn't do anything about it. It was amazing.
Since I graduated that year, idk what happened but last I knew the rule was still there. Most students can't go out during lunch time which resulted in the guys finding new ways to escape. During the day they jump the back gate (which is not high or difficult [I jumped a few times]) and at lunch time they somehow managed to jump over one of the walls and some people ask those are outside to buy them food and snacks. Others have a permit from their parents which allows them to go outside through the front gate at anytime. But where's the fun in that??

In my senior year of French Lycée, the school implemented that the school-provided meal every Thursday would be vegan.
About a month later, the local paper actually reported on the apparent drop in attendance on Thursdays, as well as the “seemingly” connected reports of increased business in the local kebab shops.
I did it, and so did most of my friends. It was simple really, the kebab shops were realistically the only restaurants close enough to be able to order, eat and get back in the 1h lunch slot; and at only slightly more than the cost of the school meal.
The fact that it happened to be one of the meatiest fast food choices was icing on the proverbial cake, but we would’ve eaten anywhere else if there had been time.

Want to turn your school into Fight Club? Punish victims of bullying.
Of course you can't just go back on anti bullying policies - that would be racist or something. I grew up on a farm with goats, turkeys, and geese, among other less raucous animals. That does not make for a weak child, but it did make one that got suspended a lot.

Our school has basically banned self defense

How would that be racist, even to an idiot?

@@KnakuanaRka Because racial/ethnic minorities get bullied. Supposedly. I mean, I imagine so - they can't be anything other than victims according to the woke crowd, so it stands to reason.
That means going back on anti-bullying policies would make those poor, poor, minorities vulnerable.
      And that's racist.

@@SiegeTF And if ethnic people get bullied, then aren't zero tolerance policies that end up hurting bullying victims by punishing both sides also racist?
