Rusted GREEK SWORD - RESTORATION

- This sword belongs to Ancient Greek or spartan Armoury. These types of swords were built to hold them in one hand and the classic blade was generally about 50-60 cm long, although the Spartans supposedly started to use blades as short as 30 cm around the era of the Greco-Persian Wars.
Me and my elder brother we helped each other to make this video and i am deeply thanks to our every single subscriber who is supporting us to do something new and creative. I made this just for fun i am not promoting any kind weapons so guys just sit back relax and enjoy the video.
I love the Brass and you guyz can see casted brass looks really enchanting in the handle.
Some of viewers just hate me to much because of using brass but its my skill so i want to work on the things i am good to do so guys watch the videos just for fun.
I showed the whole procedure for restoring this chopper in this video.
o. The liquid i used to remove RUST was VINEGAR.
o. I used sandpapers of different GRITS for the shine of the steel.
o. Brass casting was done for the HANDLE to look more enchanting.
o. Dark coloured wood was used to make the handle.
o. For Hardening the blade i used my own handmade METAL MELTING FURNACE.
o. I used clear paint to shine the wooden handle and Brass was shined by special brass polish.

Someone has to teach this dude the difference between restoring and customizing
For real
Why are you complaining when most of us including me in this comment section can’t even do what this man does?
The reason they are complaining is because there's a very big difference between restoring and customizing, we came to see a historical object getting restored and brought back as close as possible to its former glory, what we got was someone damaging and ruining a historical object (if it even is one) for their own desired look. And you don't need to be able to do this to complain about the blatant clickbait that the title is. Hope that clears it up for ya. Have a nice day.
Ermmmm he did both
Lets just say that he's Restorising.
If it really was an Ancient Greek sword
1. It wouldn’t be that size and shape
2. Would be made of bronze
3. Would be worth millions and be in a museum
GlobalWarmingXD I would agree with you that it would be probably in a museum but it wouldn’t be necessarily made of bronze, the start of the Iron Age in Greece started in 1200bc which is considered to be in the era of “ancient” Greece. Also it can be that size and shape, it is a weapon called a kopais, favoured by Athenian generals and very rarely spartan polemarchs who would carry spears instead.
Yeah that shit irked me hard
Fuk sake mate read the description
It depends on where in the time period it came from - people stating it would be exclusively bronze are incorrect .. .the period close to 500bc we saw a mixture of both iron and bronze being utilized in weaponry.
GlobalWarmingXD your that dumb huh? Yeah know he could of went somewhere bought then take it home to restore.
I almost cried when I saw you drill holes into it. I had to remind myself its a cut sheet metal sword and not an original forged greek blade to make myself feel better.
why is everyone so whiny about this lmao
@@damagedhoodie3920 you don't know the definition of whiny clearly. I was just stating that it hurts to see someone drill into original metal. But it's not an original piece, but a recreation so it's whatever.
@@Under-Kaoz wasn't referring to YOU mate. Was a legitimate question.

I'm glad he restored that big hole that time filled in, it just wouldn't have been the same without it.
The reason people are leaving negative comments is because your title is misleading. Change the title from "impossible RESTORATION" to "FANTASY MODIFICATION" and you'll get a lot better response from people.
Pugtaur Chieftain 🙄
You wanted to say "ruining a thousands of years old sword" that holds a history of so many generations to keep it how it was before this piece of shit ruined it completely. Yeah, him putting the holes in it were crazy as heck. That is for sure.
As much as I like what you did with the sword, I can't help but think that you might be confused about the definition of restoring.
You do know that he buys these and then soaks them in salt water to make them rust so that he can "restore" them right? Yes, every now and then he finds an actual item that is broken to restore, but in this case, I am compelled to point out that the Greeks used BRONZE swords when they were using that design.
I don’t see what the confusion is? Staged or not, it’s still restoring it. He made claims of being or not being anything but that
@@Baronstone and to you, good point
@@shinobifirecracker6671 He literally drilled holes into the sword and made a new handle for it. That's not restoring

Just based on my experience working with old, damaged tools I'd say this sword is around 40-50 years old easily under 100 If it just had a neglectful owner it could be under 20. If I had to guess I'd say it was made as a replica from either the 300 movie or graphic novel since most Greek swords where double edged.
I think most anicent Greek swords were, you know, made of bronze not steel.
No duh someone probably had it in their home didn’t take care of it it got rusty so they tried to sell it for a quick buck and he took the rust off and gave it a new handle simple as that. I’ve seen him open packages before on this channel for knives and cleavers he buys online for cheap and fixes this is literally the same I really don’t understand why everyone is complaining.
The sword type he shows existed in Greece and was very popular for cavalry and mercenaries.
That being said this one was ... Clearly substandard.
@@inaliann no.

It's very fun for me that a Japanese katana, an Arab sword, and this ancient Greek sword have almost exactly the same level of rust. It is as if someone made them at the same time and then consciously left them outside to rust.

@@curiousfloyd1767 The first sentence in the description is 'This sword belongs to Ancient Greek or spartan Armoury. '
@@saxton2125 its implied he means it's so historically acurate it might as well be used in a spartan army
What I love most about these videos, is that these are real swords. Not replicas, not models, not mantle pieces. These are full fledged old school ancient works of art being restored to their full capacity (only most likely better, guaranteed the iron and steel was never brought to a shine that bright five or six hundred years ago) and showcased for all to see. Makes me respect blacksmiths even more to think they would have had to fashion these with nothing a hammer and a ladle.
Well, the designs are ancient, the swords he is restoring amd customizing are maybe a decade old as he would in no way be able to get a hold of a real deal
They are not real swords, replicas, a sword from 2000 years ago would be gone or completely caked with rust and no solid metal underneath. Doing a “restoration” like this to an actual piece of history would be a sin as he is taking away everything original and making it an entire new thing, why in the heck would anyone drill a hole in an Ancient Greek sword?

@@Noble1271 Okay i might be wrong in calling that a fuller
but it does the same thing that a fuller does
which is to male the blade lighter and faster
in fact u can see many knives nowadays with that design
@@azadanandashareef1766 yes but you can't just yank out a piece of a blades spine like that and expect the integrity of it to remain. That tiny little chunk did nothing for the actual weight of the blade, negating the fact that blades like this didn't have fullers or any kind of weight reduction to begin with. They were either forged light or heavy. Watch any ABS Bladesmith make a sword like this and you'll see how its properly done, not just taking a drill and fucking up what (could have been) a beautiful blade like this. There's so much wrong with this video and his process that it hurts to watch. The heat treat was horrendously uneven TWICE, if that blade were to undergo and kind of testing other than a fruit or a bottle, it'll snap in half and that's a guarentee.
@@azadanandashareef1766 a fuller or "blood groove" is a structural support most closely related to a Steel I-beam. From back when blades where thicker and wide (cough cough "That's what she said." Cough cough). The sword needed some sort of support as the weight iron plus the leverage multipliers of length and gerth would cause the soft metal blades to bend or easily break. To take out some of the weight while reenforcing the blade the fuller was born. Now I personally am now curious to find out if the I-beam or fuller came first. Idk which would be more awesome a Swordsmith taking a technique from a building support or architects taking a structural support technique from a Blade and applying it to a building support.

Why, just why?
My heart sank as a historian.
Probably because it isn't a real historical Greek sword and just a copy that is stylized after a real one. That is why he can cut holes in it.
If that sword was authentic in that condition it would be worth millions, that's a replica
@@dweebs4489 exactly
It's most likely a replica. Seeing as it wasnt in horrific condition. For it to be of any use, he probably wanted to reduce the weight of the blade
Fun Fact: That kind of greek sword is a *kopis* , a greek interpretation of the khopesh. Their attempt at remaking the khopesh didn't go exactly well, but it could still do fine and deal massive damage in combat.
man, let me enlighten you a bit. "kopis" means cutter, cause that's exactly what this tool was made for. In antiquity it was used by butchers to slice meat and it was Alexander who made it the main weapon of his cavalry (along with the short spear) for it was ideal for close combat - no space for long piercing weapons in such type of battle . As far as i know, it was the greeks who colonized parts of iberia some 2.500 years ago, not the other way around. So, you understand that your "khopesh" derives from our "kopis".
This guy would be great to have as an ally during a zombie apocalypse, the ability to turn bolts and things into sharp weapons would be very useful.

You'd think if it was a real Greek sword you would see a recognition blemish or hammer marks for that matter. Especially when it "come from a Spartan armory".
he probably wouldnt have cut a huge chunk out of it.

A Spartans sword were nearly the sharpest swords at the time but thousands of years. Would wear it down

And it's not a knife.
It serves NO useful purpose and is even a lousy decoration if that's what it's intended to be!
Hang it on the wall xD
Some blade weapons are designed with slots or grooves to create the quick passage of blood. Jagged blades that difficult to suchere are in inflicting wounds can be more quickly used in combat. Jagged slashes in the neck will result in carotid arteries that feed the brain. ( The blade is also too long & curved in the wrong direction to lacerate deep enough to make that slot deep enough to be a quick drain for the femoral artery. ) IMHO the slots are there ONLY for artistic purposes.

That sword is called a kopis used by spartan soldiers in the 5th century as a secondary weapon to the pilums they generally used (pilum is a spear)
And it seems to be an actual sword from that time looking at the state of the out and inside of the handle and the rusted blade
Vipershot22 *ah I see you are also a man of culture*
@@brandonwalenter1147 I highly doubt this is a real kopis By.looking at other 5th century swords, all being mangled and eaten by the rust over the course of the years, i don't think such a perfect model of the kopis would fall into his possession... but then again i have never heard of the kopis until this video but it looks a lot like a khukiri or a falcata. Another point is after looking at photos of the kopis it seems to have a different hilt than the one in the video. The hilt looking once again like one of a falcata. But again i've known nothing of this sword until now.
@@blakefoox6091 kopis type swords were used from Mycenaean times and appeared with the seapeople.
They were later favoured by cavalry and mercenaries.
A lot of Greek mercenaries came from Arkadia. This is NORTH of Sparta.
Spartans did not favour any type of sword. They generally had shorter ones.
Wow, the the years for that handle is priceless... the repairer:
Spartans, prepare for battle. Fight with might.
this sword may have been manufactured in greece...but it was sold in a flea market new in 1980
Hmm 1980? More like december 2018, look at the edge of the tang.
@jubjub247 Does it matter? It was ugly before and pretty afterwards.
@jubjub247 I can appreciate your POV but I'm just here for a few minutes of relaxing entertainment. Which this video delivered for me.
@jubjub247 it says RUSTED GREEK SWORD
NO WHERE THE TITLE SAYS "ANCIENT"
@jubjub247 yea think so and they did mods to it from how it was
This Sword was not actually Ancient but i think someone has made it by grinding the steel sheet and even this sword was not a high carbon steel. Anyways i found it something interesting too restore so i did my best and i made this video just for fun i am not promoting any kind of weapons so guyz sit relax and watch the video.

@RJ 88 Yeah he does, right there in the description, first line says ; This sword belongs to Ancient Greek or spartan Armoury.
Looks like one of these secret sowrds of prince of persia
Wait your PREMOTING WEAPONS?
Impossible made possible.
Now that is super SHINY AND PRETTY
If he owns the sword, he can do whatever he wants with it 🗡🛡
The end product looks very nice but I don't understand why you put a hole in the blade.
Its faster to swing it if its lighter
@@ssuupergodeng 200 grams dont make a difference
maybe... for a blade to slide into it to snap it?
idk, I don't like it either way

The whole point of a restoration is to restore the piece to its original form. Why on earth would you punch a hole in it? Besides ruining the intended, original form, it completely ruins the structural stability of the sword - that hole was made right along the spine of the sword, a place where most of the force from a blow is going to be directed, and left so little material that it became functionally useless. Without that hole, it could have been a working, functional weapon, fake or no, but the hole in the spine single-handedly turned it into a pretty wall-hanger...
BurntBacon8r that's pretty much the point. I don't think he's gonna go around swinging his sword at random people
BurntBacon8r I agree with you
Every video he makes someone says this. He just doesn't care.
Dumbass he does it for fun and he doesn't want to murder someone anyways. And he gets comments from idiots like you for all the videos he does so I'm sure he doesn't care so don't waste your time :)

@@choccows it's a replica of a real one...much like purchasing a replica musket that is made now but with same specifications as the ones from the 1700s... a replica is a copy
