Not many but much, as it was uncountable. I envy the person who wrote all these. The atmosphere is being perfectly set as you reveal through the shady words. The voice helps a lot though.
Look up words ? I don't think you need to look up anything, although they use some words that are not generally used you can still get what they are saying by listening to the whole thing or just guessing.
The best part of the DD lore is basically no one "alive" is the good guys. The bosses are twisted but a lot of them didn't deserve their fate or were carried away. Meanwhile the "heroes" are majority morally grey at best. The Jester murdered a king, the Bounter Hunter hunts people for cash, the Highwayman is a thug, etc. If anything, the player is a sudo bad guy for a majority of the game, hiring strongarms to clean house. At best they're mercy killing the abominations, but even then it's for personal benefit. The player is just a janitor for the Ancestor, pulled into this because they wanted inheritance. Only a few exceptions like our boy Reynauld are "good guys", but I don't know a lot about why he arrived at the hamlet yet.
Interestingly, this means even the ancestor doesn't know what the prophet is. How he came to be what he was, how he knew the future, you don't know, he doesn't know and the prophet himself is likely to far gone to remember.
Prophets are supposed to by "God's messenger" by definition. A prophecy is their word. So we can pretty much assume that God sent it, or it's literally God.
Well the Shambler is a dimension hopping alien monster that hides in the darkness of the Estate for assumed centuries while the Collector is just there, he doesn't really have any lore apart from that he harvests heads to sustain himself. The Shambler is also from DD mythos, so you can research that if you want more in depth lore about it.
Ok but the biggest dick move was not even mentioning the collector fucking THANKS ALOT GRANDAD A LOT OF RUNS AND HIGH LEVEL ADVENTURERES DIED TO HIM COULDVE AT LEAST GIVEN ME A WARNING
Accidentally summoning Cthulhu is one thing, but ALL of this, is something else! This guy fucked up big time and all of that because he was bored one day...
The profit knew about what his real goal so HE showed him and became a madman... The witch loved fungaii and potions but HIS ambitions and curiosity turned her into a monster... The swing prince was a HIS failed summon that was fed with human meat but forsaken it because of its stupidity... The flesh was his failed summoning and instead of killing them HE made them live in the warrens and they fused together... The townsfolk revolted but HE hired a group of mercenaries along with helping them make a giant war machine and prolong his dictatorship... A kind woman wanted companionship but HE used her for jewels to fuel his ambition and turned her into a slave of the ocean... The men who were hired to reclaimed more tomes and old art, were sent to the bottom of the ocean only because HE didn't want to pay them anything... The ancestor is one of the most demonic monster of all these monsters, because he created them...
So darkest dungeon is about a monster that brings forth even greater monsters, discovers his heroic side too late, and then proceeds to foist the cleanup on a descendant because he's still a monster?

Here is my theory, a game theory: The heir will actually turns into the Prophet in the subsequent cycle. The Prophet knows everything that will happens, because it has happened and remember that the heir starts *ahem ahem* spoilers *ahem ahem* later on which most likely drove him mad just like the prophet. The ancestors may actually be the descendants of the previous heir. If you remember, the heir gather people from all over to estate dive for gold and riches in his ruined estate. After the DD, suddenly the population of the hamlet is restored. Maybe all the heroes left, but the support structure stayed, from trinket and food sellers to blacksmith and the adventure guild, the hamlet returned to a bustling place with a maddened ruler who deposed himself, for fear of repeating the crimes of his ancestors, only to find his descendants fall to the same sin, the prophecy came true and he returned with warnings and prophecies.
I don't think you got the order exactly right. I think the pirates happened way earlier back when he had dealings with the mercenaries, and the pigs happened after he learned about blood magic (the siren being his first "project").
Looking at the texts, I would go with this order from first to last events. Some of these are guesses, but crew has to be fairly late since he was out of money at that point, flesh needs to be before swine prince since he discovered the warrens at that point, siren, necromancer, and hag had to be fairly early since all of those indicate him still having fairly respectable reputation. Cannon was probably consequence of the Prophet rousing the townsfolk to rebellion, he fed the townsfolk to the Swine Prince so that had to be after Cannon. Siren Necromancer Hag Flesh Prophet Cannon Crew Swine Prince
i think it’s cool that the necromancers second stage lets the player realize something is off. It’s there first boss many get to level 2 against and it drops a hint that gramps is kind of murdery
Two make me more pissed at the ancestor then anything else the Prophet lore and the Siren lore makes me wonder what the sequel is going to do since it outside of the hamlet

@@SkyNinja759 i made a far cry joke and you bitch about it.
books are great to depict insanity, fear of the unknown only your imagination can describe it.
video games can build tension through gameplay.
movies... slow camera roll, and or non-connecting images shown in a cycle.
that's insanity in film.
oh, but American Psycho is a good insanity movie.
thank you for making this video, by the time you get the next lore part you often forget about the previous ones
You can replay them from the memorial right in the centre of the town.
@@t3chn0dr0n3 Nobody got time fo' that!
This is the closest to an Eldar's hedonism I've seen. Btw, how many words have you had to look up to fully understand the narrative of this game? Jesus
@@andrejoss475 "Guessing" can often prevent from understanding the deeper meaning of words... and thus make the text less impactful, imo.
This is what the Eldar did before Slaneesh Murderfucked them!?
None, English being my third language. It really depends on how much you read.
Love the small things like Wilbur running over to Swine King and The Flesh changing form
Or the matchmans stick coming out of brigand pounder
I aspire to be this good at dodging responsibilities in the future.
Mmm, I don't really think the Ancestor is a good role model tbh
3:30 I see what you did there with matchman stick XD.
It's almost haunting how this video game is the absolute perfect horror story
Thanks for posting this!
i am so late. but i JUST finally finished the game after first buying it in like, 2017? and the ancestor.. is a real piece of work. to put it mildly
Try bloodmoon now
Like most people buying art, he decided to pay the crew in exposure,
TO THE DARK ARTS
Only a few exceptions like our boy Reynauld are "good guys", but I don't know a lot about why he arrived at the hamlet yet.
well damn.. i had no idea i had been slaying mostly innocents
My man got a nice girl then went "im kinda broke so I'm selling you to cthulhu for cash lmao byyyyyyyee" *shoves into ocean*
People's lives were destroyed by Ancestor:
Responsibility:
Ancestor: *_YEET_*
is the prophet a reference to rasputin? a mad prophet who seemingly can't be killed? cool.
what?
i mean what?
A lot of biblical prophets were hard to kill too
Came for Shambler/Collector, got none
Rip
Well the Shambler is a dimension hopping alien monster that hides in the darkness of the Estate for assumed centuries while the Collector is just there, he doesn't really have any lore apart from that he harvests heads to sustain himself.
The Shambler is also from DD mythos, so you can research that if you want more in depth lore about it.
to summaries the plot of this game
the ancestor: I dug a hole
Ok but the biggest dick move was not even mentioning the collector fucking THANKS ALOT GRANDAD A LOT OF RUNS AND HIGH LEVEL ADVENTURERES DIED TO HIM COULDVE AT LEAST GIVEN ME A WARNING
"Slowly and gently, a life is taken." Literal life experience.
Damn, I was really looking for Eldritch Shambler lore
Good edit, it's helpful for non-native English speaker like me to understand the story. Thank you.
Ancestor: do what he do in the game
Satan: I want to said I'm a huge fan
English teachers should give students extra credit for playing this game.
Local man ruins reality.
Accidentally summoning Cthulhu is one thing, but ALL of this, is something else! This guy fucked up big time and all of that because he was bored one day...
+35 Stress received.
My resolve is tested
Floridaman ruins everything again
The way the Ancestor just does as he pleases reminds me of Odin, who just kinda did whatever and had Thor kill whoever opposed.
finally, the tragic extent of his failings
The scp foundation is gonna have a field time in this village
The Prophet awfully reminds me of Grigori Rasputin
So darkest dungeon is about a monster that brings forth even greater monsters, discovers his heroic side too late, and then proceeds to foist the cleanup on a descendant because he's still a monster?
What heroic side?
@@gronndar
Well I mean, he did send someone to fix the mess, which seems surprising given what he did with no form of regret
I like to imagine that when he realised the truth, that all was one, he suddenly felt the pain of what he had done to others, and killed himself
@@fatalos6855 if you played the game have you noticed all the times your characters talk about the ground thirsting for their blood? Or sometimes when a character dies the ancestor talking about it feeding a dark power?
Your "heros" are ritual sacrifices.
necromancer 3 always gives me the chills
Here is my theory, a game theory:
The heir will actually turns into the Prophet in the subsequent cycle.
Fucking hell the ancestor is terrifying
So business as usual in Florida eh?
They should do a saga series just like Castlevania, of this game. the story is good, worth watching it.
"So then I fucked up everything, that's right, everything" -The Narrator
I don't think you got the order exactly right. I think the pirates happened way earlier back when he had dealings with the mercenaries, and the pigs happened after he learned about blood magic (the siren being his first "project").
At the start of the siren boss fight he says "THEY remade the poor girl." I don't think she was a project, she was more of a payment or sacrifice.
Siren
Necromancer
Hag
Flesh
Prophet
Cannon
Crew
Swine Prince
poor prophet he deserve better....
i think it’s cool that the necromancers second stage lets the player realize something is off. It’s there first boss many get to level 2 against and it drops a hint that gramps is kind of murdery
Two make me more pissed at the ancestor then anything else the Prophet lore and the Siren lore makes me wonder what the sequel is going to do since it outside of the hamlet
I used to have a custodial job at a Procter and Gamble research laboratory.
It was exactly like this.
Wilbur flying across the screen really caught me off guard
Local man too lazy to fix problems, sends grandson or some shit to fix it for him, is mad when he does so
Shambler jumpscare. Jokes aside, I tend to forget that the Ancestor was already insane before his end, despite him being the cause of all the chaos.
my fucking god thats a villain
After completing the game, I can't help but notice the Ghostly voice that comes with the narration.
Spoilers
I Heard the Ghostly whispers early on and after Seeing the boss i Then understood Why, He was literatlly Haunting you, or something like that
the prophet knew he was going to be kill by the heroes?
Well he also knew when rubble would fall upon each hero
Arguably, the most callous, mallicious, evil ambitioned hubris packed into a man in a game, and he narrates all his sins throughout in a mix of pride and shame.
I wish more games handled their story telling like this.
We came there because we thought our Ancestor had a problem, only to find out HE IS THE PROBLEM.
Every enemy we fought before meeting the Ancestor was like: Bruh we tried to tell you
At first I was like “oh man, the ancestor is kinda outta luck with his discovery,” but now I’m thinking more along the lines of “wow, the ancestors a dick who deserves repercussions.”
Sooo... should we learn from all that, that overconfidence is a slow but insidious killer?
damn so the prophet is actually the good guy...
Poor prophet.
At first i was like he accidentally fuck up
But then he realise yeah he just fuck up intentionally for every one, forever
I love these bedtime stories
Shout out to the first boss for not actually being a piece of shit and trying to help
Noah Kirsch true true
Honestly, I think, the monsters r fighting back for revenge bc of the awful, and the horrific things that the ancestor has done to them...
The ancestral is corrupted after finding the heart of darkness
It's almost like king leoric lore
