Just got my Mega Drive Mini today and this is perfect video for me. I love the work the Mod My Classic team did on the PS Mini but this really takes it to the next level. Great work by the team and Restalgia for your great videos.
OK For those who are stuck on "waiting for reboot" it is most likely your cable. DO NOT UNINSTALL it is just the driver not functioning correctly when doing the disconnect and reconnect for some reason some cables do not auto recognize. Simply X the install and start again...with a different cable. I tried a samsung phone cable "no go" unless I wiggled it at the USB port on my PC and "bing bing" but it seemed slow. I used a generic USB cable from my printer and no problems, same with a cheap USB hard drive cable. Thanks again Steve love your work...Project Lunar is like Hackchi2 with even more bells and whistles.

Project Lunar is great, but as many had speculated, the emulation solution chosen by M2 have a lot of problems with many added games, mostly because they relied heavily on a lot of custom adjustment for each game in the official selection. For example Midnight Resistance, Truxton and others have no sound at all (this is not related to the clock speed adjustment, it doesn't work even when disabled) while Desert Strike, Rambo 3 and Mazin Saga suffer from freezing (not hard crash, the Mini menu still works) in specific points. Others like Super Hang On suffers from slow down and glitches while the 3D effect of Panorama Cotton doesn't work at all. Some of those problems may be resolved in future with rom patching similar to what happened with the sound issues on the SNES mini.
Great mine worked perfectly. Windows 10, UK megadrive mini :) Having PGA Tour Golf II on here now has made me very happy, will now be taking this with me for hotel nights when travelling !
This is awesome! I just ordered my Sega mini two days ago. I really don't need to add that many games, I just need Haunting and Ren & Stimpy. The built in ones are pretty great.

Would'nt run without having Microsoft .NET Framework installed so i'm in process of doing that but takes ages to install, or could be that my laptop is so old.
I'm so glad I have found this. Finally I can add Thunderforce IV, Rocket Knight Adventures, Aladdin, Speedball 2, Pyscho Pinball, Micro Machines 2 and so many more to my Mega Drive mini 😀

This software is great! It's pretty foolproof too, with illustrated tutorials and everything, but it's nice to have this video for additional guidance. :D Thanks for that. I wasn't planning on doing anything fancy with my system... I've got the Playstation Classic and the Raspberry Pi for that. All I want is more Genesis games, and there's room on the system for what I want to play. (A full library is... probably going overboard. Who really wants to play Chakan: The Forever Man, anyway?)

Ok so this worked perfectly. One note is that if you hook it back up after install to change games don't need to do power reset thing before plugging it in. Also fetching images for games have been having a hard time.
Great Modd - it was so easy to setup. Please, people, use a proper USB cable - No Y cable, hubs, or another other types of USB cable. Second, if you download the Project Lunar hack - put exclusions from your security software (antivirus). Top-level security systems such as Kaspersky, Bitdefender, etc think the programs are adware, malware and subsequently delete PL files ( false positive). Make sure your USB cable is sturdy. Ill test my system with non sturdy usb cables and will post back.
Perfect - Thanks for the step-by-step! Worked like a charme. For the most part. Now if only Micro Machines 2 and Gargoyles would start and run. All I get are black screens. Everything else works perfectly.
I want to thank you for making this tutorial and the guys behind Lunar for all their effort, really. Hakchi was exciting and still is for the S/NES Classic Mini but with PL they seem to have topped it since we can also use WiFi, Bluetooth and all that good stuff. You could have mentioned the SEGA MegaDrive Collection on Steam though and that buying games there gives you the legit ROM that people too can transfer to the MegaDrive Mini :D This gives access to games such as Sonic3 and Shining Force 2 as well, which is great in my books since one does not need to worry about legality questions.

I spent nearly 5 hours this morning on my Genesis Mini. Tried 32 bit on my laptop yesterday and it couldn’t detect my console. Did it with 64 bit today and no problems at all. I added 32 games and I don’t think I’ll add any more for as long as 32x ROM file formats aren’t supported. The biggest issue which isn’t an issue with the console or PL is majority of the ROMs you find online are zipped so you have no idea what format they’re in until after you download it since most pages don’t specify this. So if there is a particular game that you like and it is .smd then you will have to make a number of attempts on different sites until you find the game in a supported format. Another issue that I had was playing EU region games and the image greatly reduced in size. Some pages don’t specify what region the ROMs are in so do pay close attention to this. They’re such basic tips but you will save yourself a lot of time when downloading and adding if you pay close attention to the file format and region for each ROM. This is the reason it took me so long to get to the point where I’m now happy with what I have.
Sevrei 85 I went through the GoodGen set last night and pulled a bunch to go through. I added the RR games last night. Was a huge fan of the World Series baseball series. Will be adding these some time today. I am still trying to decide what to add Buck Rogers Countdown was a must add for me too
This is really awesome, especially for being free. But a lot of roms won't work. It only plays bin files but a lot of games I want are not available in that format and even a lot of EA or Activision games that are still wont load(couldn't get any of the NBA Live roms to work). But I did get about 55 working roms that I love added so I'm super stoked with how this works, the interface menu for game selection is great and better than the SNES hack, emulation seems great, and I love how you can save and jump in and out of games so smoothly.
HELP.... my TMNT hyperstone doesnt have sound after the opening so from the menu and on forward there is no sound the game plays fine but no sound at all i tried downlaoding the rom from other sites but it still acts the same ..... out of all the games this is the only one i have an issue with well this and SKITCHIN lbs
For those with the "waiting to reboot" issue. I tried multiple cables and redownloading of software, but what it took was trying a different computer. When i tried the new one, i saw that my surface hadnt been actually installing the drivers on install of the installer. Hope this helps!
If I plug my usb into my otg adapter will that add more storage that way also? That way I can have both front USB port free for controllers. I like to keep me classic consoles look stock as much as possible after a hack
Yeah same question here too. For now, I'm using one of those super tiny low profile USB drives (Cruzrfit) from Sandisk. They're the most discreet looking drives out there right now and since they're also black, they hide better.
That may or may not work. The easiest way I've found is just to plug in a USB hub into one of the front ports (with that way and some extra controllers, you can even achieve 4 players!)
Alright, I finally got this thing hacked! I followed your video and the only thing that went wrong is how it was not reading the Sega Genesis Mini via the USB I was usng ( I tried three) Luckily, you put the discord channel and I just downloaded the driver and every thing else went off without a hitch. Pretty happy with the results. Pretty sure I am officially done with modding anymore systems I got all the games I wanted but the games that did not work were: Mortal Kombat 1, Robocop vs. Terminator, Shaq-Fu.
A late Christmas present huge thanks to the dev team!!! Dreams do come true! I was wondering why you would need a wireless network connection to the mini? Is it required to update the system's firmware or thats done via the desktop app? Will any wifi adapter work? Thanks!
So with some of the games that have some sound issues - would this be resolved with future PL updates? For example, Joe and Mac has no background music playing. Toy Story title screen has no music. Jungle Book has a weird sound when hitting enemies. These are just some examples. Thoughts??

This seems so much easier than the hakchi stuff to understand ... so far. Do you know if you were to add hacks, would you be able to add box art for it?
Just got my snes mini classic I mainly got it due to 6 button controllers default and I have sega games mid on it to. I loved my megadrive when I had it and I respected snes to when they where 1st out.
Yo, when I plug my Sega Genesis Mini in and start the installation process it stops at waiting to reboot. How do I fix this because it's getting on my nerves right now. (Btw I know this is like almost 4 years old now)
I cant get past "downloading payload" part of the process. i just get this message after about a minute or so: "Downloading payload from the Internet: Project_Lunar_Mod-1.0.0-RC5-ff573f2.tar.gz One or more errors occurred. A task was canceled. Installation did not complete successfully."
There's a few people in the discord having the same problem so far no solution yet. Does the app detect your console for anybody when you plug it in? I'm wondering because it won't even do that for me.

On Reddit, they posted a compatibility list. That is a known issue with that game.

Can you use OTG adapter option on this project lunar now..?! So we can install the full game library...

I am going to try using a left or right angled dongle plugged into the micro power port with a USB drive like my NES and SNES classics.

Everytime I open the desktop app it says error and closes but lunar is on my genesis any suggestions
Followed all the steps, games run fine but when I click settings in the main game menu my system crashes.

Just got my snes mini classic I mainly got it due to 6 button controllers default and I have sega games mid on it to. I loved my megadrive when I had it and I respected snes to when they where 1st out.
Yo, when I plug my Sega Genesis Mini in and start the installation process it stops at waiting to reboot. How do I fix this because it's getting on my nerves right now.
(Btw I know this is like almost 4 years old now)
I cant get past "downloading payload" part of the process. i just get this message after about a minute or so:
"Downloading payload from the Internet: Project_Lunar_Mod-1.0.0-RC5-ff573f2.tar.gz
One or more errors occurred.
A task was canceled.
Installation did not complete successfully."

I have the exact same issue
There's a few people in the discord having the same problem so far no solution yet. Does the app detect your console for anybody when you plug it in? I'm wondering because it won't even do that for me.
