The thing about translators is that we're usually trained to know a little bit of everything. In fact, literary translation doesn't pay that well, and most of us work in a couple of different fields. So the same person who translated a highly acclaimed literary book may also be translating journalistic or scientific writing. We adapt to the text and context we're working with, and keep (to the best of our abilities) the style of the original
part of what makes pride and prejudice so brilliant is that it does have a third act conflict (lydia running off with wickham) but it's external and it tests both the mcs to see if they really have grown and really are compatible and really do want each other and those icons PASS and more romance authors (even ali my queen) need to study at jane's knee a bit
I am a translator and it was so fun to hear you talk so nicely about translation. It is usually an invisible art, as you do not want the reader to be pulled out of the story because of translating choices you made. Thank you for the acknowledgments!
"25 is not terrible!" I just played Contexto for the first time today and it took me about 125 guesses. 😆 I did it with my kids, though, so a lot of the guesses were just them throwing out silly words completely out of context. Still, I couldn't IMAGINE doing this in only 25?! Well done you! And thanks for introducing me to these new games!
A Wizard's Guide to Defensive Baking was my favorite read of last year! 💖 I have realized that out of different genres T. Kingfisher writes, her middle grade/YA fantasy works the best for me 😊
I was NOT a Ali Hazelwood fan at all for a long time (sorry Megan) but I decided to read Love Theoretically as my final try and when I tell you that book single-handedly turned the tides for me. Love on the Brain is on my re read list for the year, like I don’t know what happened but Ali Hazelwood does in fact get it
I’m so glad you finally read Love, Theoretically!! I don’t know why but it’s my favorite of hers so far. They are all the same and yet this one hit so hard!!
Idk if your fanfic history is the reason Ali Hazelwood hits for you, because I used to read (and write!) a ton of Hanson fanfic back around the time you were born (GOD I’M OLD) and she doesn’t hit for me. So sad the Pride and Prejudice video flopped! I for one am stoked for that series, because I love a good retelling and I’m fascinated to see some analysis of how they match up to the originals!
okay but t kingfishers middle grade (under her pen name Ursala Vernon) Castle Hangnail is one of my favorite spooky middle grades of allllll time and no one talks about it! I love her childrens books so much
A Wizard's Guide to Defensive Baking was also a four for me but I loved that it felt like it was actually written for fourteen year olds, and talked about how the adults failed them and that's the only reason they were having to save the world themself. My favorites from her are The Saint of Steel series, they are fantasy romance but have a very interesting horror element.
I think this is the first time EVER that I can say this for ANY BookTube video, I have read all these! I think they were all great picks and your ratings are pretty spot on with what I gave.
Love this video, as usual! An interesting stat for your monthly wrap ups might be which video resulted in the best average rating - it could help you see which methods are getting you closer to the 3.8!
I’ve read sword heart and love that. That’ my fave t. Kingfisher so far but I’ve only read from the fantasy side. I read the clocktaur war books and paladins grace books too since they all lead into each other and I enjoyed them
Your P&P vlog is one of my favorite vids you’ve done and I’m sorry the views haven’t been there for it. Just letting you know that one person out there really really loved it 💕💕💕
I’d recommend that your next T Kingfisher should be Hollow Places. It’s very creepy and full of vibes. But for me, my favourites have been Minor Mage (similar to the one you read for this video) and the quartet of fantasy romances.
Hi Meg! Nice to find you!! I’m Emma and brand new to booktube and finding it a great community so far! UK booktubers seem sparse, any recommendations? I’m down in Cornwall 🎉 Excited to see your future videos! ❤
Me when I see the title of Meg's new video: she is an icon, she's a legend, and she is the moment.

This is on my kindle to read 😊
ELIMINATION ROUNDS ARE NOT CHEATING MEGAN
This is my go to method for wordle actually. Highly effective
Yes! I was shocked when she said that! Like, is that not how EVERYONE plays?! Most of my guesses are just elimination rounds!
Every time Megan posts a video it feels like a personal gift to me. Like I feel so special, thank you!
so glad you loved Love, theoretically! it is truly her best!!! also thanks for introducing me to some new games!

Love theoretically is my favorite ally hazelwood thus far ❤ so glad you finally read it and loved it too!

Such a fun video idea! And your thoughts and ratings on the second two books were the same as mine.
I don't think Love, Theoretically was a stretch. Good pick for the prompt!

Fun video concept! Thanks for introducing me to some new games - I reckon they’ll be great for my commute 😊
Meg just say you wanted to read Ali Hazelwood 😂 we all knew
megan i have been WAITING for this video - i'm just so obsessed with this idea
I’ve read sword heart and love that. That’ my fave t. Kingfisher so far but I’ve only read from the fantasy side.
I read the clocktaur war books and paladins grace books too since they all lead into each other and I enjoyed them
Very excited for you to read Death on Gokumon Island at some point soon! I liked it better than the Honjin Murders 😊
love this series!! also, LOVE the colour of the hoodie in the intro - where is it from?!
this makes excited for A Wizard's Guide! And yes, you said 'adjunct' correctly...or at the very least how I pronounce it lol
Your P&P vlog is one of my favorite vids you’ve done and I’m sorry the views haven’t been there for it. Just letting you know that one person out there really really loved it 💕💕💕
She who became the sun was one of my faves last year

The only T Kingfisher books I've given 5 stars are Nine Goblins, What Moves the Dead, and Digger.
This was so fun!! Side note...where is your striped sweater from? I ❤️ it!

This was so fun! I've given T Kingfisher one 5 star, and the rest have been 4 stars for me too! I haven't read any of her fantasy yet but I need to!
I had a similar experience with Kingfisher but then I read Paladin's Grace and that was a 5 stars 🌟
thank you for the video ❤❤
Please give Paladin's Grace a chance 😊 it was my first T. Kingfisher and its just so good
i would love if in the future you read the seventh bride by t kingfisher
Ali: Why you gagging, I bring it to you every book
I'd love to know what lipstick/gloss you're wearing in the beginning of the video
I think the third act conflict in Pride and Prejudice was (Spoilers) Lydia running off with Wickham.
12:27 3.8 year average, here we come!
I still haven’t read Ali Hazelwood 😭
💗💗💗

I feel like I am the only one who didn't like Love, Theoretically
