      When I needed to get up onto the roof to do some work on it during construction, I just bolted some wood floor sections on it to stand on, and tore them down when I was done, lol.

    big tip on making a roof look really good on a higher house. Offset your roof tiles by half a block, (so you need an ridge for an even number of tiles) so that half a roof sticks over the edge of the building. Instantly makes it look better

    As an architect, i had to try to develop a "flat" roof design, like you see on more modern buildings. I found that if you hybridize a flat roof and what resembles a waffle slab(real thing!), you can make the appearance of a flat roof by only using interior corner roof pieces in a square pattern.
    This way it still acts as a functional roof, protecting from rain and giving the shelter effect, but still has the appearance of a flat roof. Im pleased with the turnout"

    I tried making a round house, where i turn the angle once every 3 blocks. The roof was a pain to make properly, especially the higher i went, trying not to have little gaps while also not making the clipping look bad. Was a challenge for sure but it worked out! Also the size the house gets matches perfectly with the heat range of a bonfire in the middle :)

    Tip: Ladders are 45 degrees. They snap onto your roof for easy "walk up" access.
    Build the roof you want. You can always add/remove ladders. I keep mine permanently on the roof - destroy the ones going up from ground.
    ALSO: 45 degree roofs are EASY to walk on without ladders. Simply snap horizontal beams on the "undersides" of where roof tiles attach. Now you can walk on roof.

    What's you opinion on the potential for pvp In this game?

    • @quicksandriggs
      @quicksandriggs  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'll start looking into foundation and staircase information.
      I'd love to see pvp implemented more in the game, and not neccesarrily just for goofing off between friends, but actually allowing your dedicated server to be pvp enabled permanently so you can have attacks and raid against each other or have multiple groups racing to take down bosses first in order to advance ages. I am not a fan of griefers, and it is always hard to implement non griefing pvp into a survival game, but I love the thrill and challenge of player vs player in a healthy setting and environment. I believe games like Age of Conan and original Ultima Online had the best pvp systems because there was no toggle or dedicated servers, which means you have more people just playing the game and pvping when the moment called for it. Anytime a game dedicates areas, times or servers to pvp, you can guarantee its just going to pull out all the griefers.

    Little notes:
    Rain is going vertically straight down. So whenever there is roofing above stuff/you, then it's safe from water damage.
    Flooring panels do NOT protect against water.
    Those X sections and inclined truss beams seems to be water resistant. But those plain horizontal and vertical beams (squire and rounded ones) are NOT water resistant and will degrade over time.

      @@quicksandriggs No, sure you did not. It was just hint as I learned that hard way :-) It seemed to me that those, as sort of panel, might stop rain and act like roofing providing shelter buff. But I was wrong.

    Another method not covered in this video is to use the iron beams to create a frame around the entire building then connect that frame to the roofing for a super unique looking roof with a crazy amount of space you can roof with using this method.

    Putting a roof on my giant circular portal hub is taking days and I'm noticing the clipping and snapping is getting tough the higher I go, might just scrap it. I flew too close to the sun... Either way, thanks for the tips!

    • @quicksandriggs
      @quicksandriggs  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah, I prefer octagonal over circular because of that, although it has its own problems! Hopefully you get something worked out!

    • @kathrynck
      @kathrynck 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You could do a full 16-angle circle at the base, and then at some point nearer the center, transition it into a octogonal by skipping every other roof & angle.
      Worth pointing out, circular roofs in valheim work better I think with a Clerestory Roof step up, which is a perfect time to reduce the number of angles you're using by half. If you window the clerestory step, it gives you ventilation for your fires/braziers.
      Also a "spiraling roof" shape can disguise the clipping issues of a circular build as intentional design elements.

      It is made out of a stone foundation though, it might be tough to accomplish 8x8 with strictly wood.

    I'm frustrated because I'm limited on how I build my starter base since I don't have these larger log poles.

I was referring to the houses you used to explain intersections that come in around 2:00 and 6:30. lmk if you have any ideas for getting like 1m of overhang but no stress. • @quicksandriggs
      @quicksandriggs  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Goodday639 Gotcha, that overhang is probably accidental. But you might get an overhang by free placing a horizontal beam on the underside of your roof panel and trying to attach a second roof to the beam, clipping through your current roof, it might hang off 1m. I haven't tested this though.
