Really like the look of theme 2 style 2 in low contrast mode. I think you're the first person to really show the TFT display on this, as ive been looking for a video for a while and havent seen one til now lol thanks kate.
I kinda thought... how has no one done this video yet! So here it is, glad you appreciate it, even if it's a bit clunky - I'm no expert lol I might try theme 2 more, see if it grows on me 🤔😂
The video wasn't clumsy at all. There is a lot that it will do and no doubt it can all get a bit confusing. I remember the days when we simply had a needle that showed us our speed, usually they were accurate, and some bikes even had a tachometer. The rest of it all happened because we had to learn how to ride without all that fancy crap. No traction control, or other various rider modes, no tire pressure indicator, that was called checking your bike to make sure it was safe enough to ride, no ABS, that really only makes a difference in the rain anyway and it just takes a non-panicking rider and you can stop safely without them. Great review of the dash, Kate.
Thank you! Yea there is a lot going on with the dash. When I took it out on demo, I thought, this will be overwhelming but you really do get used to it and discover its relatively easy 👍🏻 I know! There are so many rider aids nowadays it's crazy. I always wonder what the stage evolution will be from the manufacturers, a 3d dash where your visor makes it 3d LOL wouldn't put anything past technological advancement 😂
@@UsernameKate Haha, yeah, 3d visors, cool. Maybe a day will come where you get on the bike, type in your destination and the level of thrill factor 1, 2, 3, or the "Scare the shit out of me" level. Then, put on the helmet and the bike does EVERYTHING, and we just hang on. LOL. Sci-Fi stuff there, Kate. Haha.
That was great.I can see why you love that dash.I'm an oldie with an oldish bike so I consider myself lucky to have a fuel gauge.I'll keep on doing the lottery so maybe one day....I like the white background too.
Combination of nice content , nice voice and classic English. Subscribed. Going to buy ST RS at the end of summer season , when prices for motorcycles obviously going down.
Thanks for posting I prefer the black background. Put a deposit down on a 2019 version yesterday. My thunderbird sport doesn’t even have a fuel gauge or low fuel light, it just cuts out and you have to switch to reserve 😂
Wow, the most useful informative instruction vid I think iv ever seen, save me some much time and guess work, ps nowhere was was ur narrative clumsy, good job 👍
Thanks for sharing. Looked on the Triumph website and saw no details of the TFT display or its bluetooth connectivity. Thanks also for persevering with the dark mode :-) Personally I think the TFT displays are great and bring a whol host of new information to the rider. Once the genie is out of the bottle, it cannot be put back if you get my meaning. :-) If you know of pairing with your phone to get turn by turn navigation, that would be great to see.
Excellent explanation of the triumph TFT Kate. I have the BMW TFT, really nice display too. Not sure if it’s got as much customisation as the Triumph’s.

Great job Kate 👍 Not often anyone takes the time to explain details like this, thanks and well done. Am toying with buying a 1050 Speed triple RS and I believe they have the same screen. Also I like the black background better and it’s nice to see how much you can customise the settings. Hope you’re enjoying your “Streety” Ride safe young Lady 😬

Very clear and concise talk through the functions. Is there a custom function which you can set with your most used parameters so you don't have to keep going into the menus which looks time consuming? And can TC and ABS be adjusted on a sliding scale as opposed to only on/off? Does the switchgear illuminate in the dark? I tried the Street Triple RS in summer 2017, really liked it, light and nimble, but to really get it to go you have to rev it up past 9k where it then flies which I think you said in your main review. The sound was addictive especially with the quick shifter, but I think riding day to day I felt it would be just a little bit too manic for me. So last year autumn 2018 I tried the Speed Triple RS and although a little heavier I loved it. Loads of low down grunt and still the familiar set up of the Street Triple RS just not quite the need to rev it so high to get it to go so more relaxed. It feels a little more planted on the road and consequently a little heavier obviously being the 1050 engine. Both bikes are good and the triple engines are a joy now Triumph have made them rev so freely. Thanks again for your review. Thumbs up.
So you can set it exactly how you want it in the custom rider mode. In this mode though, if TC and ABS are disengaged, it will revert back to road when you switch the ignition off. It's just a matter of quickly setting it to the rider mode before you set off. TC and ABS arent on a sliding scale, that would be awesome though! The switchgear doesn't light up in the dark (that would also be badass). I totally get what you mean about the Speed 1050, I prefer a gruntier bike with lots of torque from the first fistful so riding the revvy street is taking a little getting used to! The engine braking on it though is insane, I did not expect it! High up in the revs though, the street is bonkers lol thanks for your comment! Really appreciate the time you took to post it as I love sharing thoughts and hearing what others have to say about the trumpets 🎺 Ride safe.
My other concern with these TFT screens from all manufacturers is warranty. If you have an issue with a screen and the bike is say 4 years old, they could leave you up shit creek refusing to replace under warranty, so the likely cost to replace could be very high where as traditional clocks don't fail. And also for bikes with all the electronic aids TC, ABS, modes, etc, how long will manufacturers provide firmware updates to iron out glitches in software or improve the functions? I have seen Thruxtons and T120 Bonnevilles suffering with condensation in their clocks after only a short period of ownership which is pretty bad, but also KTM TFT screens also suffering the same condensations issues. For me BMW TFT screens seem the best. I don't own a BWM bike, just what I have seen. Plus you can integrate your phone and SatNav with them which I think you can do with KTM TfTs as well.
I completely understand. It is a worry, I just hope that at the time these bikes develop issues, the price of replacements parts will be cheaper as time moves forward. All this tech is a double edged sword. That's why I think extended warranties are so important if you own a bike rather than have it on a PCP etc. My Triumph is coming out later this year. A connectivity system that allows the screen to be turned into a satnav, along with other features. Interesting stuff.
Informative stuff. I like the black background but can see how it might suffer from more reflections. Why can't they make matte clocks like matte laptop screens? In general I think the fewer distractions the better while you're riding. You know you'll hear about some numpty who crashes because they're fiddling with their themes and settings instead of looking where they're going. But it's important to get things the way you like them so I think you should only be able to customise your display while in neutral. Finally, is there no way to connect to your phone to get satnav on the dash? That would be a major selling point for me
The black background usually comes on when it's dark outside, using a sensor, so usually reflection isn't so much of an issue. I just prefer the white, nice bright and clean. Also, I think it is natural selection taking place if someone crashes because they want to change a theme on the move lol. With regards to integrating a satnav to this big ole dash... it's coming! Triumph have a TFT connectivity system coming out late 2019 whereby you can control your gopro with the analog stick, connect your phone and music to your dash AND have a Sat Nav that uses Google maps. I dont think they have released a price yet but I'm intrigued none the less! 😬

I never owned a 790 Duke, just test rode a few. Dont get me wrong, a decent bike, just not for me. Plus, we don't have the best dealer support locally for KTM (although Colwyn Bay is ace in the UK - shame it's too far for me), and I have a Triumph dealer round the corner from me. I would say you need to ride them both to form your own opinion, because what I might like, you might hate!
Hy there is good to know the functions properly work on this bike. I actually have a question about it. In my bike the selection key is not working properly and it's shows the check light on it.need help to figure it out.
I believe it is coming, if not here already for the 765 RS! I'm not sure if it is something i will get, since my bike is on a PCP. If the feature was available at the date of purchase, i'd have probably included it in the finance, but since i'm one year into a three year PCP, i'd rather spend the money on different mods :)
Here's my opinion about the fancy display. Having it the way you have it set up is distracting and dangerous. Triumph would prefer an average commuter use the auto contrast because it helps you avoid distraction of the bright screen. The only time you should turn that off is for a track day
I have ridden once with it at night given that its summer and it was set to auto so it went dark. You've misconstrued how I have it as many of my friends prefer a black screen for the day as they think it looks 'meaner', whereas I prefer it white 🤷♀️😊
You can also adjust the brightness, so I'm sure if you wanted it white at night, you could turn the brightness waaaay down. I had a 690 Duke and that went in for a dash recall because holy shit that was bright at night. Like... ridiculously so.
In my opinion, it's too much, for a motorcycle. I have a 2013 Yamaha FJR1300a. The thing I really like its about its LCD instrument cluster is that it gives the right information, laid out to view easily and quickly. It only has colored indications, where that historically exists. Neutral indication, high beam headlight, turn signals, so on. I know this next part, is completely a matter of opinion, but I believe the white face, with colored this and that, is unnecessary, and potentially distracting.
It's a gorgeous bike and a nice dash but it seems almost silly to me to have a large screen display like that and not integrate gps/maps into it. It is big enough that you could have maps and still function as a speedo/revcounter with room to spare if the UI was tastefully designed. And while they're at it they could very easily offer gps tracking functionality for a yearly fee using the same equipment. P.S. that bike is nowhere near filthy enough to apologize for.
Hey Savage, it's coming. It's a TFT connectivity system coming later this year. Integrates maps, phone, music AND the first system where you can switch your go pro on and off through the handlebar controls. I dont think price has been disclosed yet, but the nerd in me is ready 😍
@@UsernameKate Very cool! It's about time navigation came standard on higher end bikes, I know most of us are just holding on for the ride but sometimes you actually need to travel to a specific destination. I would have that bike tomorrow if my budget allowed it, but for now i'll stick to fixing them up. I'm sure I'll have a few more for Mr P to shift in the near future as I can't seem to stop myself looking for projects. and yet still I wonder where my money goes 🙄

Very cool!
Apple carplay and Android auto would be perfect for navigation
I bet your VCR is flashing: "12:00" lol
