    With my RAW 420 I just tension untill my tensioner has only a little bit of play. Then tighten everything up and fly. Haven't had any issues doing it this way. 👍

    I just found this video. As of now, its 5 months old. Ive been flying with torque tube tails. I recently build a Tron Dnamic with a belted tail. This video will help me ensure that my tension is happy. The other day while spooling down from a flight, I thought I heard a noise from my tail boom. I was wondering, is my belt too loose? I'll take a look at it the next opportunity I get.
    Thanks for the best & helpful heli videos on the planet!

    Having a belt is like having dual direct-drive pedals on a drumset,, I imagine... xD
    I only ever got to fly direct-drive tail so far and just recently got my hands on a little pushrod setup micro heli but an actual belt seems like the real thing you want to go for eventually.

    • @westhobbiesrc8051
      @westhobbiesrc8051  ปีที่แล้ว

      Belt driven tails will always outperform a brushless driven tail, depending on the size of the helicopter. I my self love the idea of a direct drive brushless driven tail, but it is extremely difficult to get them to even come close to the performance of a belt, driven tail on bigger models, mainly because of variable pitch versus changing motor RPM.

    • @westhobbiesrc8051
      @westhobbiesrc8051  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! If your belt is to lose it can definitely cause a slapping noise inside the boom. But that’s really lose! Very surprised it didn’t skip teeth.

    Hello Jeff, on which conditions the tail belt breaks apart? And how we know it's been worn out and it's time to change?

    • @westhobbiesrc8051
      @westhobbiesrc8051  ปีที่แล้ว

      So normally every 100-150 flights I will pull my helis apart and re grease all the thrust bearing and check over the whole model. Belts can last a many many flights and they can go bad fast. Really depends on how tight the belt is. How old the belt is. Normally it’s age that makes them go bad.

    Thank you for the video jeff. I recently built a kraken 580 which doesn't have any tension pulleys for the tail belt, how would i tell if it is too tight?

    • @westhobbiesrc8051
      @westhobbiesrc8051  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@anthonypoltes7413 thank you for watching! So on the kraken you go by feel, you want to use the same idea, hold tail hub and put pressure on the head and make sure it doesn’t skip. Then make sure its doesn’t feel to tight.

    Thanks JEFF. Maybe you can help me i’m trying to find canopy quick remove latches for my align 500 heil. I tried Rc booya, but I don’t know if they’re still in business they don’t answer my emails and everything’s out of stock. Thanks, JEFF.

      @westhobbiesrc8051  ปีที่แล้ว

      You’re welcome! So, unfortunately, those canopy latches are no longer in production and haven’t been made for a long while now. Your best bet is to look on the forms and groups to try to find somebody that has a set. They are willing to sell. I had a set on my old Trex 500 and they were great!

    Hi Jeff, on my omp m4 max under hard collective backwards flight, sometimes the tail blows out wildly and does a full piro or more. Sometimes I hear the tail belt slap in normal flight. Belt tension seems tight both with the squeeze test and holding rotor, turn the tail. Do you think this is due to loose belt or something else? Thanks!

    • @westhobbiesrc8051
      @westhobbiesrc8051  25 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@mikefuchs2814 hi Mike, that’s a good question, so if you hear the belt slapping I would say it’s the belt skipping and losing the tail. But it could also be the tail just letting go. But does it do it all the time? What FBL and tail servo?

    • @mikefuchs2814
      @mikefuchs2814 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @westhobbiesrc8051 hi Jeff, it's the stock omp ds3515t tail servo and ikon fbl. I think it does it all the time if I get on full collective high speed tail first loops and such. Stock omp 85A ESC. Thank you!

    Hey Jeff! Awsome video as always, I'm thinking I want to sell my Raw 420 to build a Raw 500. I think overall the Raw 500 will be a better model. I'm going to go through and rewire the entire thing to help clean it up, along with going through to re-grease it and clean up the model from all dirt and grime. I'm going to put new decals on it as well. I think I have about 30 flights in total with this modle and it's never been wrecked. It's got the exact set up your 420 has along with the aluminum blade grips and motor guards with the Rotortech 420 blades and Rotortech tail blades. I'll also include the original blades. How much would be a fair asking price for this heli?

    • @westhobbiesrc8051
      @westhobbiesrc8051  ปีที่แล้ว

      The 500 is a great helicopter. I’m really enjoying it! I need to build one for myself. I have seen them go ready to fly like that for anywhere from $700 to $900. Depending on setup and conditions. I would say $750-$850 is a great asking price.

    the looser you run the belt the more power your heli makes and less strain is put on your bearings

    • @westhobbiesrc8051
      @westhobbiesrc8051  ปีที่แล้ว

      No, helis are designed to make the perfect amount of power with the belt tension in mind. Yes, if you run a belt very tight it will take away power as there strain is high. Running your belt looser to have more power is just asking for belt slap and skipping,
