- How to draw on black paper: 12 easy tips for drawing on a dark surface. In this step by step tutorial I teach a few beginner tips and tricks that will make your life easier, if you want to draw on black instead of white.
I recommend drawing with colored pencils which is what I am showing here. There's a few things to consider that you maybe haven't thought of before.

I just read your 14 tips for drawing on black paper which brought me here. I can’t believe it - I knew about using white before a dark color but layering it was somehow new to me, it had never clicked before. Layering!

Thanks!! Just started drawing on black paper. What is a blending pencil? Never heard about that
A blending pencil looks like a white pencil, but it has some kind of rubber at the tip (instead of lead). You can't draw with it, but it blends the color/lead you have already put on paper with your normal/colored pencil. There are also blending stumps/Tortillions - they're essentially rolls of compressed paper that fulfill the same purpose.

Which eraser we should use on black paper
See tips #7 and #8 at 2:11. You almost can't erase colored pencils on black paper. You can try with a regular eraser or use a black colored pencil to draw over it. In my opinion the better option is to start drawing lightly and build your values (tip #8). That way you can avoid erasing most of the time. 👍
What brand (& kind of) colored pencils do you recommend.
Prismacolor Premier. There's a link in the description of this video. 🙂 Faber-Castell Polychromos are also very good, but a bit more expensive...
@@BueskenArt awesome and are the Prisma premier different than regular prisma colored pencils?
I can't say for sure, I have just used the Premiers. It seems to be the main brand of Prismacolor... if you look on Amazon, that's what you'll find most. I think the Premiers are wax-based and the cheaper ones aren't.

Hm, I don't know about that. I just used standard black paper from a local market. Sorry.
