My dog can pretty much do that if there's food on a high table.

You forgot that the head is attached to the body so it will probably be more like "The Thing" where the head rips off and starts to dangle with the "spine" still attached.
the comment section in a boston dynamics vid never ceases to entertain 🤣
Gotta say, the costumed robot looks way scarier than just the robot with dog like movements
Yeah it's the uncanny valley.
They shot right over that valley a while ago with the parkour bot being able to balance after being SHOVED. I guess it's in the name, but the way these robots move is the uncanny valley part for me more than any furry rental suit ever will.

@@strangeunivers That would be a cogent argument IF we didn't see it move already, at speed, and see every joint's degrees of freedom.
To me, it looks like a Tesla ripoff just done poorly and with much less artistry, and the prior "Boston" Dynamics robot was doing backflips. Ugly af, but it was capable, imo.
The new one looks like it's a dude able to kiss his machine male organ... didn't you notice that, I thought that was weird to show as an introduction. Look everyone I can autofellate... I was like wtf? [some /sk]
If it is more advanced than the Chinese and Tesla's bot, show us... right? Ppl can say anything, making some fake CGI stuff at least to fool the audience is the least I would expect... but they didn't even do that.

If Boston Dynamics really wanted to change the world, it could create a robotic guide dog for the blind. A little bit more of a realistic "disguise" would go a long way in making it more acceptable to the public.
What's truly impressive about a dog is that they can be trained to navigate obstacles that we are still working on with robots.
Obviously it will be real looking dog robot 40 years later
A robot dog would be way more expensive than a guide dog and we do not have the technology for a robotic guide dog to work reliably enough yet
Affordability and accessibility are a huge gap to bridge.
A lot of tech companies often do projects like this that might seem frivolous or unnecessary to the average person, but this industry and it's evolution is often like a life-long beta testing process.
If they can secure continuous funding (yes even accounting for how much they get now it can still be a logistics issue in regards to potential longevity, quality assurance, liabilities, and cooperation with other orgs and the govt i.e. contracts and funding) for long enough, and there is steady interest/demand, subsidizing the costs to provide much more serious and life-changing aids for people in need IS possible. We are finally starting to see that with solar panels/solar technology.
But it's often a long long road and certain socio-economic circumstances can heavily delay or derail such things. Human Geography taught me so much in regards to that and while I suck at explaining it in my own words, I understand it in practice.
I’ve been saying for a while that if the Spot robot were more accessible cost-wise it would be a fantastic mobility device for a lot of disabled people. I use a wheelchair and have a service dog, but she is my 3rd service dog in 15 years. It takes 2 years to train a puppy and if you are lucky the dog has 6-8 years of life it can work, but once it hits 8 years old you need to find another successor to start training so it can retire.
A Spot robot could help a disabled person with counter balance tasks, momentum pull, pulling a wheelchair, opening doors for a disabled person (a lot of businesses still don’t have electronic door buttons), bringing medications at scheduled times, along with a bunch of daily living type activities such as loading the dishwasher.
They would also be a nice option for disabled people who would benefit from a dog but are allergic or don’t have the mobility to take care of a live dog/clean up it’s poop/etc.
I can already tell, this is gonna be a smash hit for certain conventions and fandoms.

That adorable dog would be chasing me in 2030s
Imagine giving them electro-shock darts and you are finished.
In 5 years that would hear 10 times better than us and see 10 times futher (just put many cameras with different focal lenzes as our phones) and would run 40 mph.
You can't run, you can't hide😅
Can't wait to have this thing on our side in the Resource Wars of 2045!
2028
I for one think Sparkles is adorable
Real. Everyone says it’s scary but honestly I love this dog too much.
Sparkles is also blepping which I think adds to the adorable factor.
Looks very huggable, if i could fly over i'd hug her lots and lots and lotssssss ❤
imagine that running at you full speed on the street at 2 am
Especially with it's lifeless eyes and unnatural movement. Nupe.
Spot running full speed is not all that fast. It's about 3.5 mph, which is similar to a human's average walking speed. You could outrun it. 😊
@@kmw8775 thats a relief😂
@@kmw8775 but for how long.......
@@fangal12probably untill it stops working.
That's not sparkles, that's a walking nightmare
'What's your intention? Do you want to creep out...'
BD: 'Yes!'
"Whos the beat boy? whos the best boy?!?!"
Dog: *jumps from excitement and crushes my spine*
"Whosssss th...... ☠️"
😂
Now I have to be afraid of being hunted down and killed by Sprocket from Fraggle Rock
And.... The Dawgs are evolving!
yes... there are spot furries now 0_0
I don't care what anyone says but that robot dog Sparkles is cute, he looks like a Muppet.
I understand why it would be unsettling to some considering the uncanny valley but that robot is endearing and well designed.💜
Well now, this is just about the cutest/most horrifying thing I've ever seen.
