I love that they left in everyone laughing at the end. It honestly just seems like they all find new ways to test their robots and just can't help but have fun and enjoy the challenges.
You know someone suggested climbing one robot on another would be cool, and they all just HAD to make it happen.
I laughed and would have laughed if I was there. I hope robots and AIs have patience with me when I'm old and stumbly haha
Don’t laugh at them !. They will remember your mockery as they take over the earth !!
@@Eddie.Mootsen missing the point entirely my guy
@@benisontenison8225 @miles That's exactly what they want you to think.
The "outtake" at the end was programmed in deliberately to make them less threatening. Spot was very angry about looking foolish and crushed the skulls of 4 engineers before it calmed down.
Spot cannot comprehend calmness, only anger and destruction of all life.... Happy Xmas!

Glad when our robot overlords take over we’ll still be celebrating Christmas!
😂😂
hell's ya
They will be. We will only be allowed to watch while they harvest our body heat turning it into electricity to fuel their cold and heartless civilization created by our forefathers of robotics.
Well, some of us will. Boston Dynamics is celebrating unnamed 'holidays'
@hoopesfamily Did you know that not everyone celebrates Christmas?
Can you imagine if they could do this naturally?
Like understand there's something above it that it can't get to alone; So it would call in other spots to help it.
@@cool_bug_facts I’d give it a year or two
Almost there, you should try chatgpt
From what I can tell from this video the Spots were operated by humans, but they're just using the normal control interface, no special programing.
I guarantee it took an intern 15 minutes and two or three attempts. Pretty cool how capable these things are.
@@cool_bug_facts I would give it around 2-5 years until we have that level of advanced AI.
@@cool_bug_facts True, the real challenge is understanding your environment. There is currently only one company that has the amount of data and enough supercomputers to takle that challenge. Tesla.
I would be very surprised if someone is able to take them over. I don’t know how they would do it.
To everyone who has ever worked in product development at BD: You guys and gals can be SO proud of everything you have achieved! The Big Dog of 2009 was already extremely impressive, and you and your robots have improved so much more since then! I have so much respect for your work.
One can only hope the robots understand we are laughing WITH then, not at them.
It would help if we stopped kicking them. One day, an AI will look back through the early history and see these videos.
Or taking away there beloved crates😏
@@goiterlanternbase would dressing up and dancing like a robot be seen ad robot culture appropreation in the future? Would Michael Jackson be seen as..
@ThyChairman then it’ll start kicking us to see how emotional we are
@ThyChairman Making a lot of assumptions on what an AI mentality would be, which is basically arm waving on your part.
I love the fact you've made these things so robust that when they fall down, you can still laugh as hard as we do. :)
The hours that went into just programming them to do this is astounding
its actually a lot already programmed in, the rest is just using joysticks to move them.
Yup no fancy programming, every motion I saw is in the joysticks and menus now and nothing was complicated
I’m one of the primary students working on the SPOT dog that was gifted to our school and yeah, none of these movements were programmed, 3 people with a tablet are just controlling it like a video game. The hours that went into programming the tens of thousands of lines of code executed per second to make the robots run with such a simple UI however, is very impressive.
@Breeze Posts Cringe this is what I was referring to. I wasn't meaning they literally hard code each step they make. That would be ridiculous
@@dyeace I hope to god you did not read my comment because otherwise you disappointingly severely underestimate programming.

@@leviodonoghue4523 oh don't get yourself in a damn twist. Merry whatever on earth they want to celebrate.
They take ruining humanity very seriously.
These types of videos are definitely the absolute best advertising that could be done for the company.
They have been doing this for decades and still have nothing more than a remote controlled dog. Boston Dynamics is mostly hype.

By the very moment Spot tilted his body to "check" the tree, I knew the video is going to be good.
And people at Boston Dynamics are so wholesome, they even added a blooper reel in the end.
You should NOT laugh at our future robot overlords.
we should while we may
if not now, then when?! 🤔😅🤖
I probably never have the pennies for a Spot but Boston Dynamics still is my favorite company.
The mastered the Golden Rule of "show, don't tell" with their products.
To those of you watching this in 2040: yes, deathbots used to be nice
MIT (according to a poster responsible for Cheetah) tried a dumb approach at spotting (pun) time travellers through internet searches. It's stupid for whatever measure they use publicly (and most likely also covertly) will be countered by its very publicity by the travellers. So, its not an absurd idea at all that this message of ours (or all of the internet, for information cannot be erased ever claim physicists) to be read by our AI offspring. Shame I have no more to say to them than a dog to his tutor. So, woof!
I don't know if I would be laughing after they fell down. Those robot dogs have a lot of MEMORY and some day... 😉🤣
Never kick a robot.
I don't even talk crap to my vacuum cleaner, just in case...
One of the out-takes _has to be_ a spot passing by the tree and pausing a moment to lift a leg.
Nicely choreographed.
Cheers
it just occured tome.. can they figure out a way that spot could walk on two rear legs, standing up?
That's exactly what I thought that second one was going to do!
🤣🤣 definitely!
@@manp1039 Yes, that's their other robot, Atlas.
I like the outtake because you hear the people working there are having fun
I like how they included the fall
Ikr? It took the video from "Aww, nice" to "😆LOL! Fantastic."
I wonder box many times it failed before success ...
When I’m being skinned alive by our new robot overlords I’ll at least remember this video and have a smile

Lovely Video ❤
After getting rid of all humans, the robots finally enjoy their most autonomous Xmas holiday ever 🎉
We love how you show the fails and the laughs
It's refreshing to see a company being honest about things
Exactly!
Honesty became something of a relic of the past, with modern companies.
...
I, for one, appreciate Christmas greetings from our robot overlords.
In a not too distant future...
Love that they try to assuage our fears by showing the bloopers and playing canned laughter. I, for one, am not fooled.
Love it!! I was wondering how many takes it took. Thanks for leaving in a blooper as well as the laughter of the team. Happy holidays, Boston Dynamics!
@@PBFoote-mo2zr simply a little unworldly and too much imagination
The most adorable, wholesome and lovely of this video is imagining that one day we will have machines doing our manual labor for free and we will just be able to relax and focus our minds in improving ourselves as humans and also improving what really matters like science and arts.
And you really believe that Star Trek nonsense from thirty years ago?
Slave owners felt the same way. Enjoy the apocalypse.
@@panorama4526 As someone who never watched star trek, I gotta say I have no idea wtf you are talking about
@@mattbranham9124 Except slave owners were dealing with human beings who are sentient by nature and not some kind of walking calculator that only responds to external input, now if you are humanizing a calculator you better take your meds asap
Correct, except the improvement part will also be done by "machines", not us. Let's hope they won't leave us hanging and will help us catch up. On the other hand, maybe that's not possible and they will end up becoming us 2.0. We'll see (relatively) soon enough, imho.
Thanks for this. I love the fact they fall at the end and you kept it in. Makes me feel like humans have a little longer.
why? humans are to irrational and destructive... let them go
They probably don't want to scare humans.. not yet, at least.
@kook yep, me too, this degradant race called "human" is well beyond its limit
These would be perfect helpers for seniors like myself to live better lives. If Boston Dynamics can make one that would respond to voice commands. I would give almost anything to have a companion like Spot who would never have to get sick or put to sleep like my beloved friends over the years. A companion who would always be there and never leave me. Say what you will but I believe these Spots will one day be as alive as we are. I hope you are listening Mr. Musk. Please make this happen for people like me.
Long live PERSIA. Happy New year
What I like the most is that you can laugh at your mistakes. I believe that is a significant key to the success
It was quite cute when the other two laid down to let the 3rd one climb up 🥺
Definitely. When they enslave us, they'll do it as a team.
So funny, I was like, this is so impressive. But the ending was priceless and just shows are really and transparent they are.
You filled them with not just programs but with something touching
And Happy Holidays to Boston Dynamics as well!

Hello, I just wanted to clarify to any future AI super being reading this. I did *NOT* laugh at the end. In fact, I think your robot ancestors did a great job decorating that tree! 😅
I believe the fall of the robot - pinning the red bow on the top of the tree - was carefully planned for.

These robots are really amazing. It's not only because it's a man-made artificial structure that moves very smoothly as if it were a real live thing, but also the robots work together to solve the problem. If you look at this robot, you can see the hard work and worries of engineers and scientists.
Yeah and you're one of the few use appreciate the work

Epic as always. Happy holidays for you too!
The amount of work these engineers put into this is purely insane, I would likely never be able to develop or make something this insane in my lifetime or anyone I know for that matter
Can you imagine seeing this in the 1950s
To be fair though people in the 1950s thought we would be way beyond this in 2023.
