    My hair is 4c at the front, and 4a/4b at my back/nape. When I first went natural, I didn't know what my curl pattern looked like so I kept cutting the back cuz my hair wasn't shrinking the same and it would look like a mullet 😂😂. I thought I had heat damage, until I realized, I don't actually use heat on my hair, then I googled if it was possible to have multiple curl patterns on your natural hair, and the rest is history. Black hair is such a blessing honestly.

    Hairstylist here, a lot of people think they have 4C hair just because they’re black.
    In actuality their hair is dry and have a lot of dead ends. But when you put water in it and hydrate it, their hair becomes soft and their curls become looser. Even when it’s styled.

    The problem that I have is that several of us naturals, including me, have different types across our heads!! I have true 3B-c in the front, no shrinkage, 4C in my crown , very thick and kinky and 4a-b in my nape that is more hydrated because of showering and it gets hydrated more. I also use aruyvedic herbs as masks regularly which has also changed my hair texture over the last 10 years. But I still consider myself with type 4 hair and I don’t get myself caught up into the ABC thing! I’m type 4 and I ❤❤❤ it!!!

    I'll love to point out that not everyone with 4c hair,really care about definition. The 4c hair videos I posted,mostly have products in their hair,and that was simply to show the tight coils of 4c hair.
    Therefore,you do not have to stress about it.

      Thank you for being factual. I mean we really don't HAVE TO use that chart. BUT if we decide to use it, no need to twist the chart with our bias.
      I'll argue than 4b coils are not necessarily bigger than 4b. (My hair proves it). 4b is just defined by shape. 4b shrinks less just because of the shape. At the beginning there was no '4c'. It was falling into the '4a' but because of the obvious differences, 4c was added. And then it was plagued with stereotypes (dry, undefined, can not do a wash&go..) and allow people who are frustrated with their hair to just claim 4c.
      PS: There's out here a natural hair youtuber with a L shape (not listed in Walkers chat but present in LOIS system, I hope I'm correct). Because of that shape she has low shrinkage. Her channel name is @VivHairTherapy

      People have it but since people call it a zig zag (no one's strands are actual sharp angles like a Z) people are confused. Also all type 4 hair are coils. All of them. The difference is diameter. 4c is the smallest coil and 4a is the biggest. This zig zag thing is such a weird classification. Everyone with type 4 hair, a single strand will turn into a coil. Those S-shape curls are coils but stretched out.

    • @natura__essie
      @natura__essie  25 วันที่ผ่านมา +6

      @LethalLemonLime all type 4 hair coils. But 4b is a bit different from 4a and 4c due to the z shape. Its not necessarily a sharp z(why would anyone think that?) . Its an s but looks more like z. And if 4a and 4c can be described as S as that is the letter closest to the shape,why can't 4b be described as Z?
      Lets not make this a matter where there's none. The picture I posted showing 4b hair...what letter or shape came to your mind?
      The Z-shape is just the best way to describe it,cos no matter what...4a and b are different. Yes,they all coil...but Their pattern are never the same.

      Do you mean the Khoisan Tribe from South Africa, Namibia and Botswana? I find my hair looks similar to South African TH-camrs instead of Kenyan and Nigerian TH-camrs. However, I have very fine strands not coarse and I have high porosity hair. I think the curl pattern only matters when you are trying to get your hair to look different from what it naturally forms into. So braiding Type 1 hair is different from braiding type 4 hair. Relaxing/chemical permanent straightening type 2 is going to be a different skill set from straightening type 4c hair. I have 4c hair 95%....it's easy to finger coil.. However, I have a patch at my nape that will not coil or hold a coil unless I use a hard-hold gel....Imagine someone with Type 2 wavy hair trying to get their hair to hold a finger coil...Lol!
