On the wind! You gave me a good chuckle when you said you started sewing 100 years ago. LOL, I feel the same. I'll be 70 this year and have been sewing since I was 7. Thanks so much for all the info you give us. God Bless!
On the wind! We are all old enough to remember when Olfa was the only company making rotary cutters. I discovered them while stationed in Japan in the mid 90's and was taking classes on crafts using Washi paper. I was blown away that such a think even existed. I had reconstructive surgery on my right wrist 4 years ago and was having a hard time with the straight on rotary cutters and my quilt shop did a demo on the Marttelli cutters with the offset handle. Life changer for me! I have an older Fiskars cutter that is only used for paper and batting. I never really thought about it but turns out I do like a heavier one. Great demo.
On The Wind. Thank you for the review of rotary cutters. It was very informative and saves me frustration and money if I decide to buy another cutter. I have always used Olfa.
On the Wind. Thanks for the rotary cutter comparisons. We appreciate it! You provide much needed info for all, especially for all the new quilters that have such a variety to choose from. Thanks again.
On the wind. I bought the Creative Grids rotary cutter last year. Yes, it’s heavy, but I love it! For me, that extra bit of weight seems to make cutting a bit more controlled. Regardless, I only use Olfa blades. I have tried the discount blades and won’t make that mistake again. They can have knicks and go dull so quickly! With blades you really get what you pay for! I love your videos! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us!
On the wind. Makes me think of an old song, "I'm older now, but still running against the wind'. Great information on rotary cutters. Thanks for sharing
I come from a time before rotary cutters - way back about 1982 my sister and I made placemats for family members for Christmas. We used a yardstick and a regular ink pen, then cut the strips with scissors! They had a pool table and we used this huge table to make our strips - no we didn’t cut the cloth on the pool table! We all still have these placemats (haven’t a clue where mine are right now!) - and they have been washed many times! Most quilters have no idea what life was like before all these wonderful quilting items!! I love all my rotary cutters (I have a collection!)
On the Wind. I bought a Quilter's Select years ago at a quilting retreat. It took a day or two to get use to the weight and how to use it. Now, it is my go to rotary cutter. Thank you for your reviews and opinions.
Wonderful review of rotary cutters, thank you. I've been a fan of Olfa as it was my first tool but have recently changed to Martelli for a different wrist position when doing a lot of cutting. On The Wind looks beautiful!
On the wind! Your videos are so informative! I'd love to see you review the Martelli ergonomic rotary cutters. I have wrist issues and straight cutters cause pain for me after just a few cuts, so I treated myself to a Martelli. There is a slight learning curve to use it correctly but it is worth the effort to be able to cut without pain.
Some people totally love and they work for them. I have wrist issues and the Martelli doesn't work for me! The issues with the Matelli is that the spring has a tendency to pop off and if it falls on a hard floor, the plastic will crack and break easily. So, for the price, to me, isn't work it. I always end up going back to the Olfa Ergonomic 😉😊
Thank you! You've saved my Stripology Rulers from the trash. I have been so frustrated with not being able to cut though in some places and, no matter what I tried, I could not solve the problem. On the negative side, I need another rotary cutters like... The ones I have not are Olfa and Fiscars.
On the wind. I'm still using my very old, original Olfa rotary cutter and love it. I recently bought a Missouri Star rotary cutter and it's fabulous! It rolls very easily.
On the Wind. Great review of rotary cutters! It's nice to have your honest opinion especially when the item can be so costly. I had a rotary cutter that closed automatically once. I dropped it out of hand and I was sock footed. The pressure of the fall opened the blade when it hit my foot. I ended up with 3 stitches. Luckily I had recently changed my blade, so my injury was straight😅.
On the Wind looks like a beautiful FQ bundle. Thank you for your review of rotary cutters. I have tried several and finally found my personal favorite which is the Martelli, especially since I have 2 types of arthritis-it took a bit of getting used to, but it works well for me, however when I need a 60mm I reach for my Olfa one.
on the wind. I love my quilters select rotary cutter, the weight of the cutter allows me to use less downward force while cutting. As with all things quilting, your mileage may vary. Great review, Maureen!
On the Wind. Thank you for your video - Olfa ergonomic 45mm is my preferred cutter. Recently also purchased the same brand 60 mm - game changer for batting and thicker cutting - wish I would have bought the 60mm sooner!
Great comparison, Maureen. I appreciate your thorough, detailed comparison! I like my Olfa cutters, but will keep the one in mind for use with the Stripology ruler -- that additional bit of blade sliding into the channel makes a lot of sense.
Thanks for the comparison of the cutters. I use the Olfa ergonomic ones and them. U have issues wirh my cutting hand so i have found these work best for me. I have borrowed others to try and still Olfa seems to be my cutter. Enjoy your week
I just discovered your channel and loved your comparison of Rotary Cutters. I have a few relatively inexpensive rotary cutters, but my go to is always my Olfa, mostly because it cuts well and because of the easy change blade. I have hand issues and appreciate your review of the Femore. Good to know that it’s light, but not the best to manuver and for cutting. I’d love to win your On The Wind bundle.
On The Wind. I have Quilter Select rotary cutter and do love it but at first I thought it was too heavy. I kept with it and now I use it always(unless at. Retreat because I am afraid it may disappear). Have a wonderful week
On the wind. Beautiful fabrics. My favorite cutter is Olfa 60 mm. I use it for everything. I probably should use a 45 mm more but I don’t. Thanks for all your videos.
On The Wind!🎉 I splurged and got the QS rotary cutter as I too love the QS rulers. I find it to be awkward to keep pressing the button to get the blade to reveal and then it pops closed too easily, e.g.-while squaring up a block and cutting 2 directions quickly. Don’t know if I’m making it clear. When working with small pieces and smallish rulers, it’s just not nimble enough for me. And as you said-it’s heavy. I’ve not experienced hand fatigue, but it makes it awkward for me. I may get the Creative Grids for my stripology rulers. Great observation on your part! Thanks for the video!
I have used the Olds ergonomic rotary citter s for over 30 years. Love them. You don't have to remember to close them!! And your hand doesn't tire so quickly. Win win.
On the wind! I really enjoyed this video and the information you shared. I still use my original Olfa cutter with the blade guard. It makes me feel safer than the quick change one.
Loved the discussion of the rotary cutters. I like the Olfa ergonomic cutter the best. The style of the handle seems to feel best in my hand. It is not the quick change set up, but I really don’t mind that. I can say, I have a couple of cutters I never use and I really need to just get rid of them as they simply take up space. Love On The Wind.
On the wind is a beautiful collection! TY for your graciousness♥️🧵 Excellent rotary cutter comparisons Maureen! Like you, I’ve always been impressed with anything by Alex Anderson. Had the opportunity to try the QS rotary cutter at Houston, nice feel in the hand to begin but way out of my price range and strength to use regularly😭 My hands are much too feeble with RA. I can’t imagine the pain I would suffer afterwards. SO appreciate ALL your videos.
ON THE WIND My favorite rotary cutter is olfactory as well. My oldest cutter is the midsized and I bought it back in 84 when I started sewing. Best sewing investment ever. Still using it today. ❤
On the Wind. I have a draw full,of rotary cutters, most of which I do not use. I recently bought the Creative Grids red cutter and I live it. Thanks for your review.
On the wind. I’ve always used Olfa cutters but have tried others. The Martelli scares me, it just doesn’t seem safe. The quilters select is heavy and I don’t mind that, but it seems weird to have to hit the button to get it going. My favorite is Kai. It opens and closes automatically when you start and stop cutting. No fiddly stuff. I’ll still use the olfa occasionally but the Kai is the winner for me. It’s all personal preference. Thanks for the nice review!
I used a Fiskars cutter for years (and I still use it for my Stripology ruler as it's easier to get it in those slots). My go-to now is a Kai rotary cutter. I have Kai scissors and they're wonderful, and I decided to try the cutter. I love it. It's not too heavy, it's easy to change the blades, and it has a great safety feature.
on the wind. i enjoy your topics, question what's more important enjoying making a quilt or making sure you cut, sew and match up seams. in your opinion, i can't sew straight or cut, but enjoy quilting
On the Wind Thanks so much for your very informative posts! Can you do a post on the thickness of different fabrics and how to deal with them in the same quilt. To me dark fabrics are almost the thickest. Also dealing with the stiffness of fabrics. Thank you.

Thank you!
On the wind. I would’ve liked to of seen sisters and Martinelli in your rotary cutter comparison. But thank you for your frank and honest opinions of the other for rotary cutters. You’ve probably save me some money. All the more to spend on Fabric!
Thank you for the great comparison. Could you do a video on tools that are arthritis friendly? As my hands and eyes get older, I have to use different tools. What is on the market? Thanks.
My original Olfa rotary from the 90's is still working just fine. However, I now use my Martelli. I have the large and small. I prefer it, but I've not purchased other ergonomics for comparison. The Martelli works superbly with the the Stripology rulers...you can use the smaller (45 v 40) with no clearance issues.
I still have my original Olfa rotary cutter from 1984. I moved to a house 4 blocks from a quilt shop and took Mary Ellen Hopkins classes using acrylic templates ( clear no measurement marks) and this cutter. Still works but has retired to a place of honor in my sewing room. Great comparison of popular rotary cutters. I have seen videos where the cutter was tapped on mat. Now I know it was a method to close a specific cutter.

I would Maureen’s opinion on the Martelli! I don’t need a new one now but I foresee my arthritis forcing the issue in the coming years.
On The Wind. Thank you for the review of rotary cutters. It was very informative and saves me frustration and money if I decide to buy another cutter. I have always used Olfa.
On-The-wind thanks for The great review
I am a 'baby' in quilting, and your analysis of rotary cutters helps greatly. Thank you.
On the wind will be much appreciated.
On the wind - love your content -thank you for all the work it takes to do these episodes!

@@ceciliaschleicher278 I've been using Martelli's for about 4 years. I've never had the spring fall off. I have 2 of these (large and small).
On the wind. Great review of rotary cutters. Thank you! 😊
Weaver Fever is a great pattern from quite a few years back - thank you for reminding me about this one!
On the Wind, if you please. I concur with your assessment of Quilter's Select quality. Thank you, Maureen, for taking the time to teach us.
On the wind - love that you get into the weeds on the topics you cover!
On the wind! Great review. I enjoy all your episodes.

I have two rotary cutters from MSQCand I agree - they feel fabulous in my hand and cut perfectly!
I really loved this video. Great info. On the wind.

Love all your insightful comparisons! Would also love to try out a new cutter on On the Wind fat quarters.
On the Wind - Great video on rotary cutters very informative.
On the wind. Thank you for the informative video. Love my olfactory cutter too.
Very valuable review. Many thanks Maureen O'Connor!
On the wind. I really liked your observation on the ease of using the Creative Grids rotary cutter with the Stripology rule. Thank you👍
ON THE WIND. Thank you for all your videos. I have gone back and watched some of them three or four times.
On the wind. Very informative video about rotary cutters...have always used the Olfa...tried others and always go back to Olfa.
On the wind! I agree with your choices & order ranking.
On the Wind. Thank you for your giveaways, you are very generous.
On the wind!
I love my Martelli rotary cutter. ❤
Me too! But I also have 2 60mm Olfa Ergonomic cutters which I love.
Thanks for the comparison of the cutters. I use the Olfa ergonomic ones and them. U have issues wirh my cutting hand so i have found these work best for me. I have borrowed others to try and still Olfa seems to be my cutter. Enjoy your week
Loved seeing the rotary cutter comparison! I love the Olfa also. On the Wind

On the wind. Always enjoy your tutorials. They are always full of useful information
On the Wind. Thank you for the great rotary cutter review!
Good information. Thank you, I had wondered if I would like to change cutters. The on the wind bundle is pretty.
On the wind is a beautiful collection! TY for your graciousness♥️🧵

On the Wind. I like my Olfa and Fiskars rotory cutters. Thanks for the demonstration.
On The Wind looks like a wonderful bundle to use for a girls donation quilt. I'm in need of a new rotart cutter and SO glad you did this review
On the wind. Liked the review on the rotary cutters.
On the Wind. I have Olfa cutter that you squeeze to use, love it as it closes when you set it down. thx.
On the Wind. Great video comparing rotary cutters. I have a stripology ruler and didn’t know that the cutter makes a difference when using, thanks.
Thanks for the great reviews. On the wind
On the Wind. Good comparison information regarding rotary cutters.
On the wind! Thanks for doing this. I’ve had Olfa and Fiskars cutters. Happy with them 😊

On the wind. Great information as always
Always great info! I use Olfa and Quilter's select. On the Wind is a prize worth winning!
I love On the Wind. Your review of the rotary cutters was great. Thank you.
Love your opinions! On the wind would be a wonderful addition to my stash. Love you information. Keep up sharing your opinions.
On the wind! I also have an Olfa cutter and am quite pleased with it.
Love the colors in ON THE WIND. I also love my Olfa cutter. Thanks for reviewing the cutters, Olfa being the only one I ever heard of!
On the wind. I’ve always used Olfa cutters but have tried others. The Martelli scares me, it just doesn’t seem safe. The quilters select is heavy and I don’t mind that, but it seems weird to have to hit the button to get it going. My favorite is Kai. On The Wind. My favorite rotary cutter is Quilters Select. The added weight makes it cut easier.

I have Kai scissors and they're wonderful, and I decided to try the cutter. I love it. It's not too heavy, it's easy to change the blades, and it has a great safety feature.
On The Wind . I love my Olga rotary cutter , thanks so much for your review
On the wind. Thank you for the review of rotary cutter.
On the Wind … another great episode
on the wind. i enjoy your topics, question what's more important enjoying making a quilt or making sure you cut, sew and match up seams. in your opinion, i can't sew straight or cut, but enjoy quilting
On the wind, really appreciate your videos
On the Wind
Thanks so much for your very informative posts!
Can you do a post on the thickness of different fabrics and how to deal with them in the same quilt. To me dark fabrics are almost the thickest. Also dealing with the stiffness of fabrics. Thank you.
On the wind! I would have love to see you include the Martelli ergonomic rotary cutter. It doesn’t seem like it would be easy to be accurate with it, but people swear by them. I love my Quilters Select rotary cutter once I got used to it but I got mine when they were the (bargain!) price of $50! I like the weight and never noticed strain on my arm but can see how for some that would be an issue. Thank you for the great information; I now know which cutter to use when I am cutting with my grid. Thank you. Thank you. (On the Wind).
On the wind. ❤❤❤
Thanks for the rotary cutter great info! On the wind!!
Thanks.
On the wind. Good comparison of rotary cutters. Thank you.
On the wind looks like a lovely bundle to sew with. Thanks for the rotary cutter review. I also like the Olfa cutters
On the wind- quilters select for me love it!
On the Wind. Great analysis of rotary cutters.
On the Wind! Thank you for this comparison. And it's helpful to know which is best with Stripology. But I've never gone wrong with my Olfa!!
On the wind
I just bought a quilters select rotary cutter and I absolutely love it.
The On The Wind fabrics look great! This was a great episode. I was considering getting the QS rotary cutter because of its weight. I’ve heard others say that it helps with muscle fatigue. Now I’m not so sure. Maybe I’ll ask to borrow my sister’s, first.
On The Wind. Great information on rotary cutters, thanks.
