Oh my goodness! Thank you, Nikki, for the shout-out and the love! ❤ I LOVED this video and found myself agreeing with you out loud ("Yes!""Mm-hmm!" "Me too!" "So glad you brought that up!" etc LOL) I love your channel and all the practicality and honesty that you bring to it---it's so refreshing! 😊
I was never a fabric hoarder until our local store closed. I got a good deal on my “display model” janome. When I went to pick it up, she had a 30 gallon trash bag full of fabric for $25. How could I walk away. Now, I have all of this fabric that I can’t imagine wasting. While watching you, I remember a young mom who is learning to sew. She and her husband were both in the military and very frugal. I think I’ll make a gift pack of fabric for her. Thanks for the inspiration.
@ I imagine you sorting and dream up projects. That’s how I was with this bag. She’ll be able to practice and not worry about mistakes meaning lost money. 😉
Up until 3 months ago, I worked in the fabric department of Hobby Lobby. I bought a LOT seasonal fabric when it first arrived, because if you don't, it may not be there later. That was my excuse for buying it! Also, about 2-3 years ago, they had a HUGE clearance sale, and I bought a yard each of over 50 different fabrics! In all, I had over 17 totes of fabric! Last summer I finally forced myself to go through it all and I took a ton of fabric to church, where several ladies had a blast going through all of it. I plan on going through my stash again, because it felt good, seeing the ladies' excitement! 🥰
Oh my gosh! Today was a giggle-fest! Thank you! I lost most of my sewing skills 20 years ago... after a brain injury. But I did keep trying ( failing!!!). Recently, I started going through and doing small projects ( the super hot pad was a huge hit with my daughters by the way!). I have saved bits of fabric from YEARS! Daisy Kingdom, from their outlet sale at least 30 years ago! Upholstery fabric from the Mart in Atlanta... 25 yrs ago! Rebuilding skills and finding success with these memory makers has been joyful. Thank you so much!
Hahaha, chuckling at the 75 year old lady comment. Yes, I am a 75 year old lady and I have a very, very full sewing room, but so far, none in buckets is the guest bathroom. 😂. Actually, I have a box almost full of fabric to donate. As always, I love your videos, tips and advice. Thank you! You are delightful 😊.
I remember your last video, and I've followed that advice. I took my adult son's former three-drawer dresser and put my fabric in much as you have yours. Then I made project bins. I ended up with about 10 of them. Since that video I've bought very little fabric as I work my way through those bins. Thank you for that very helpful advice!
I have ordered from Spoonflower and Shabby Fabrics online. Nice weight and finish on quilting fabrics i have selected. As for winter, i live in Ohio and consider snow days my sew days. When spring arrives and all through summer and fall my days are filled with tending gardens, yardwork and preserving food for winter. That food reserve allows me to sew to my hearts content all winter without having to grocery shop. Enjoyed todays content.
I hope this isn’t totally off topic; I’ve been busting through my stash with kennel quilts. There’s some satisfaction knowing that the points don’t have to match 100%. Happy sewing, friends.
Love your videos! I recently joined a local quilt guild, and at every meeting there is a free table, so you can bring things you no longer want, and pick up something you can use. I’m a fairly new quilter and can’t believe how much I have accumulated already. So this year, I’m not buying anything until I make up these quilts I have already bought for.
OH OH! I am a 76 year old lady who has bins and bureaus full of stashes.Never thought of the shower!LOL! I am starting to donate some of it this year as part of my de cluttering efforts.Historically I bought fabric as I liked with no plan.I think I love fabric more than I like using it.
I'm 73 and just love yarn and fabric. I have great plans to make so much and then I sort my stash and donate and give away instead. And just like you I buy without a plan of what to do with it - it's just so pretty.
I'm 74 and in Wales UK. In the past I have bought fabric like I bought books! Since starting to watch "just get it done " on u tube I am starting to both shop my stash and declutter as I don't have a sewing room and quilt on the table in our tiny dining room so have to pack everything away at meal times.
I once saw a cute decorative sign that said, "I sew, but my favorite hobby is collecting fabric!" So accurate! I want to make a sign like this to hang in my sewing room ...Or maybe I should say my fabric stash room! I'm only 35 but I already have the stash of an 80 year old!
I took up quilting because I love fabric. I love going through my fabric just enjoying how beautiful it is and how it feels. Most of all I love sitting with a piece on my lap thinking of all the ways I could use it... quilt, aprons, napkins, tablecloths, sometimes clothing, etc. Fortunately, it's about my only vice 😊. I do have a lot of fabric and I'm not the least bit interested in getting rid of even so much as a fat quarter. I still love every piece. I have stopped buying fabric unless I really need something to complete a project. And I stay out of fabric stores because I know I would weaken... But I don't have a single regret about any of it.
I grew up in a house full of fabric and other craft supplies because my mom and her family all sew and do lots of other crafts. When I move out, I will probably bring some of that with me. I am currently working on a crazy quilt because there are so many fabric scraps in my mom's stash.
I love thrifting fabric! I have a couple smaller church thrift stores near me that have great fabric sections. I also use sturdy cotton sheets to make rag rugs and thrift stores are great for that.
Oh my gosh the winter… I think we feel the same way about it 😂. Here in the uk we don’t normally have a lot of snow but when we do…. We shut down 😅😅😅. Having a good rumble cleans the soul of “those” feelings 😂. It’s all good. I’m not allowing myself to shop for anymore fabric until I use some of my leftovers. I said NO to myself 😂😂. But I need to use those scraps and do beautiful things sooooonnn. 😂😂
I so enjoy your videos! If I'm feeling down, I feel better. If I'm feeling lazy, I end up motivated. If I'm feeling creative frenzy with a dash of scattered (meant as a compliment) I don't feel alone. This video - my migraine went away (probably the candle ambience). 🙆♀️ You're a wonder! Thank you for being on YT Nikki. Thank you Layla for your editing skills! Pin Cut Sew is top tier YT content. ❤
Oh my, I the 75 year old lady that hasn’t thought of storing in the guest room shower!! Too any guests! I have projects for all my fabrics…but I may have to live to about 150 years old. My daughter now checks the stash on a regular basis to see what she will inherit.
When my grandmother passed away I kept some of her clothing that she wore often and made my mom a quilt. It meant so much to her. I’ve made several quilts for family members out of clothing from their children and other family members.
If you haven’t discovered Marshall Dry Goods you need to. Just bought multiple yards of solids and background fabric for $4.95 per yard. Buy all my backing there too .
SUCH a great *episode* of Pin Cut Sew!! For me, I found the most value in learning about the scrap bags. Thank you for giving me a nice, relaxing project to do this evening -- research scrap bags! 😍
I'm so glad to hear someone else shares my opinion of JoAnn's. My store never has what I need and selection of what is there is so small. I agree the changes they've made are not for the better.
I have two Joann stores that I can go to one is actually in my neighborhood and it’s still very clean store still has a lot of options But I buy my fabric from the guys in Las Vegas they have online fabric sales Tuesdays and Thursdays I mean Tuesdays and Saturdays sorry 4 PM Pacific time called Sew Yeah Quilting Tuesdays it’s $11.75 a yard and then on Saturday it’s seven dollars Yard with five dollars shipping for US They have a ton of variety and they have online website as well as a sale room they think those fabrics are six dollars a yard
Thanks for sharing. I like your thoughts on stashing fabric. And I do choose to shop at a local shop the problem with local shops they close at 4 and 5 p.m. and I work a fulltime job so it really isn't convenient except for Saturdays and that's the day I like to dedicate to sewing. It is a problem that I don't mind. I usually make it work.
I follow a couple local auctioneers, primarily, on hibid. One of them had a linen closet full of queen and king sheets. Looking at the furniture, I made an assumption. I ended up with nearly 100 yards of lovely, usable cotton, plus I don't remember how many yards of pillowcase width. All for $45! I will never have to buy white fabric again! Score! I did order some Dr Seuss fabric that was on deep discount from Hancock's of Paducah this week. It's for a particular quilt. And I order some Liberty that was on sale because...well...it's beautiful.
There are two Walmarts in my town. Both have a craft section, one having yardage. I get my backings of solid fabrics (Waverly Inspirations) from the yardage Walmart sometimes. The trouble is, the department isn't manned and it takes a while for someone to come over to cut. If I plan ahead, I prefer to order online. Over a few months I collected fat quarters of their solid Waverly Inspirations colors, so I know what to expect if I order online. The fabric feels sturdy and I make mostly charity quilts for children, so the low price point is a good choice when I don't want to spend much money.
Fabric Pop is a really great place to shop. It’s a curated collection of the most adorable fabric. The owner has a great eye. I also order from Fat Quarter Shop and from Shabby Fabrics, both of which have their own kits, which is very convenient.
Very informative. Thank you again for all your help and advice! I like Hobby Lobby fabrics also. I also wait for sales from Missouri Quilt Co. and Jordan Fabrics, where I always get great quality fabrics! I’m going to read other comments to get some ideas too!
I think "shopping" in your stash is a great idea! I love my local quilt store and it's also my first stop. For flannel, it's Joann's. Hobby Lobby is OK but having to wait 30-45 min for an employee to come cut the fabric is not always in my patience lol They do have nice linen. I got a bunch of fabric from my SIL's mother and aunt (probably 50 yards many in smaller - less than a fat quarter) and I went through it all, kept what I liked, what I could see myself using and donated the rest, gave some to a friend who makes a lot of baby/tween blankets and I made a quilt with some of the scraps. It was a "oops I made a quilt" because I didn't plan to make one, I used the scraps for some test block, liked them and kept going. I try not to keep fabrics I know I'm not going to use (for me it's Disney prints especially) I find people who will use them and just gift them the fabric. I have too many WIP's atm to really build a "specific" stash, so it will have to wait until I have some quilts out of the way.
Marshall Dry Goods is a great fabric store. I have no affiliation. Shop there all the time. Blessed to consider it a local store. They ship all over. Great prices. Love y’all! ❤❤❤
I went to pueblo, co today, hobby lobby all 40% off and got my medium to mix with acrylic paint to I can paint on fabric for my bags and such, went to joanns and found some fabric for binding for my rag quilt, had a fun day, however Hubby was bummed he didn't get to go!
I just cleaned out my sewing area . I was given a horn of America cabinet /table . Never heard of it before but really love it ....Thats why I needed to clean out space ... I gave away half finished projects and old fashioned fabrics on the buy nothing FB group also a quilting group ... its amazing how happy people are to have your old fabrics and even unfinished projects... Fabric stash now under control . NO GUILT ! Yay ! I am so upset Joannes are claiming bankruptcy again. I live in CT . Our store is very well kept . It is finally well stocked again . Ive done well there.I'm excited to see the finishing of the fish quilt . I am definitely going to be trying an improv quilt this year . Thanks for all the tips you always give . You are always so fun to watch and I always learn something.
Great video Nikki, I too am very frugal, definitely runs deep for me. I have made totes out of 100% cotton shower curtains found at thrift stores. Thanks for sharing those websites too. I just really enjoy your channel ❤
Thank you for the "kick in the pants" I needed. I do not want to be that person with a stash left behind. I did a Marie Kondo thing-- "Does it bring me joy?" "How long have I had it?" I contacted a friend who loves to sew, make and sell. She left with 3 garbage bags full and a tote bin. Now to see what's left!
I buy lots of fabric from Missouri Star. Every once in a while they have Mystery boxes with multiple large pieces of fabric. Always something fun is in those boxes
Hygge vibes! ❤ Painting my nails is a huge uplift for me, too. JoAnns with all of the bankruptcy rumors has been so inconsistent in my area. Thank you for these tips! Just what I needed today!
Spotlight in Australia is the Joannes equivalent here. So expensive now some things are 3 times more expensive than Lincraft (other smaller competitor) which has nothing much anymore. Lincraft was amazing 20 years ago.
I have bought 1 pound bags of scrap fabric and mystery bags of fabric from Fabric Addiction 1 on Etsy. Her scrap fabric are width of fabric that are usually two or more inches wide. The mystery bags have pre-cuts and sometimes she adds a quilt pattern. I feel her prices are very reasonable.
This is the information I needed!!!!!!!! BTW I found some cute little squares of fabric for making your bowl cover pattern at Dollar Tree for $1.25! I also found come clearance cotton at Joann’s for $1.70 per yard!! I was so excited!🎉
I resonate so much with what you are saying in this video! I LOVE fabric, but I DO NOT stash fabric for a variety of reasons: 1) Fabric is expensive (I usually only purchase fabric from quilt shops--including Etsy) and I do not have tons of extra money to spend on fabric I may never use; 2) I do not have a lot of space in which I can store fabric because I detest clutter and I refuse to create clutter, even if it is fabric; 3) Fabric can go out of style and just because I love that fabric today does not mean I am going to love it a couple of years. So, I use all the fabrics I purchase. I have a rule for myself: I ONLY buy fabric for specific projects. I never buy it just because I think it's pretty. Also, I have a chest of drawers in my sewing room. It has 5 drawers. Each drawer holds all the fabrics and notions I will need for at least one quilt. Right now, that chest is full because I have all the fabrics and notions on hand that I will need to make and complete seven quilts. So, because my chest of drawers is full, and I have no place to put new fabric, I have no desire to go out and buy more. This philosophy helps me to continue to love quilting without feeling overwhelmed or broke in the process.
Ah man Nikki, I made the mistake of watching this while I was window shopping for some backgrounds which is a definite gap in my stash. Of course, I was finding so many other pretty fabrics too! Let’s not discuss how many FQ bundles I have accumulated in my 1st year of quilting. I have done so frugally though for the most part so I can flip in a destash group if I made purchasing mistakes. It is just so hard when there is such a finite window of purchasing fabric lines that you really love. (I do have Christmas $$ & GCs…although with trying to get some backgrounds built up my “shopping wants” exceed that budget, of the struggle!). 😢😮😅
Totally with you 100% I do not like winter if the sun doesn’t come out I just stay in bed for maybe 12 hours I feel bad for my kitty cats Fortunately I don’t get snowed in because I purposely moved to a place that had the most even level of weather and where I could afford to buy a house Fabric I’ve been getting my fabric online from Sew Yeah Quilting and they really do sell quality fabric from a lot of very well-known and reputable manufactures and designers
My problem is, I buy fabric for a specific project, but then life gets in the way (full time job with overtime) and then I never get around to making that project, and that leads to stash. But I am on a no-buy roll for both fabric and patterns this year, until I make some of those projects that are in my mind.
Thanks algorithm! Soglad I found you. I mostly thrift for fabrics here in France from charity shops and buy vintage duvet covers, sheets and pillow case. As I have 20 boxes of fabric, I've committed to buy no fabric at all this year.
Sew Yeah bi weekly sales here on YT has been a massive pitfall for fabric accumulation. They have great prices and people are always quickly bidding to not miss out. It’s so fun to watch the show and see the fabulous fabric.
This has been such a weird winter for everyone. Here in southern Oregon it's FOG. I'm so sick of it. I feel claustrophobic! I need some sunshine! Thank you for making me feel better about the fact that I'm OVER WINTER!
Oh my goodness! I'm that 74 year old (at 64!). When I see a fabric line that "speaks" to me and I feel is so pretty, I feel compelled to purchase it because I (now know) that it sells out and you may never be able to find it again unless it's listed as "out of print" and usually really expensive. This is how I acquired enough fabric to create a fabric store.....it's all FOMO (fear of missing out).
When you live in Ontario, you definitely have winter ….you deal with it the best you can! I probably have to much material, so I decided to start using what I have. 😊
I am a scrappy quilter so I am fine with buying my fabric at thrift stores. I have a large Amish made oak case with dividers that I bought on Marketplace and I keep my small fabrics in bundles by colors in my cubbies. I can look over there from where I am sitting and can see I need more yellows. When I buy yardage it is at an Amish quilt store. I especially like Lori Holt. A lot of my quilts are made of vintage fabric, especially feed sacks. I am 70 and when we downsized in retirement we moved and I sold all my plastic tubs. Everything in my house is pared down and fits in drawers and closets. I store nothing lol. Even my Christmas decor fits in two sweater boxes in my bedroom closet! I am not going to be one of THOSE old people.
I'm in the UK and over 50miles from my nearest quilting fabric shop but find these online suppliers really good. Midsomer Quilting, The Cotton Patch, Bramble Patch and Doughtys in Hereford. The Cotton Patch will send out small patches of the fabrics for you to color match (small charge) and will often go and match for you if you are missing a fabric from a range.
I bought a scrap bag of ruby star from Amazon and was highly disappointed! I'm interested in a Heather Graham scrap bag, and I love charley harper! There's a fabric shop in Lawrence, KS that carries a lot of charley harper. I will look it up and let you know the name.
Canadian sewist here: I shop at Fabricland as needed but typically thrift stuff or check the Mood website first for most things (I do garment sewing and have been getting into quilting, so between my usual sources, I’ve built a great stash)! A friend’s mother passed away recently and I was gifted her craft supplies including a brand new quilting frame and 2 quilt tops to finish, so I guess I’m going to have to get good at quilting soon!
I started off only purchasing Fabric when I had a plan for it then I got hooked on the online sale with Sew Yeah Quilting from Las Vegas But I have stopped purchasing Fabric for that very same reason you mentioned And yes I actually do have some fabric in the closet in the guest bathroom but very little. It’s actually fabric to make clothes not quilts If any of you can’t bring yourself to throw out some fabric make a quilt top and a quilt back for charity. And maybe just stick a flannel sheet in between or batting scraps Sew Yeah Quilting does an Alaska drive every year where they actually send hundreds of quilts up to the areas of Alaska that are so remote They won’t care if the quilt top and the quilt are made out of fabric scraps
My problem is if I’m shopping for a specific project, I still over by. This is beautiful. I said to myself oh so is this, oh, so is this and on and on.
My mother in law received fabric from a lady’s estate….it was stored in the shower! I started this by saying ‘too funny’, but remembered I was talking about an ‘estate’. Not funny. Michigan missed the worst or the storm, as it went south of us. (I didn’t miss it) I do feel for you!
The sunk cost fallacy applied to the fabric stash! It's why people keep paying storage fees for things they don't ever use. I admit I have too much fabric, I do have a plan and I have been implementing it. I just need to get on with it. It would be easier if I didn't have other hobbies 😁
I hate frickin' winter, too! SC girl, here. Snow is good for when you stay home and eat soup for two days! I don't think my "collections" are all that bad and my fabric stash would fit in a large box since I'm laser focused on projects and won't stop until I'm done with one, so I'm okay with that, but my husband told me the other day that if anything happened to me, he'd just have to burn the house down! 😂😜 And Joann just declared bankruptcy for the second time in a year, and unless something happens, they're going to close all the stores very soon.
I'm in upstate SC. It's been too cold here lately. So ready for spring. I have been living in fleece leggings and hoodies with wool socks on. I'm over it.
Our hobby lobby cut their fabric section big time. I order joann online.get great deals there. But you dont get to touch it. Only one real quilt shop near me( 1/2 hour away). Really nice but really expensive.
Thank you for the wake up on too much fabric. ok ok, so you're talking about me... I now have a goal.... SEW FASTER.... to use up any and ALL fabric.... now that I feel better.... Thank you again for Katherine Ross fabric... love her fabric. Yes, I confess, I bought the Laundry in Cream and the mouse fabric (just a fat quarter of each). Again, I promise to sew FASTER.
I have found quilting and crafting a great stress reducer and have a large collection of materials and materials. In light of so many people losing their homes in our country due to disasters, I was struck with how hard it must be for crafters who are experiencing the trauma without a means of crafting due to loss of materials/equipment. I have found a nonprofit organization in one of the rural communities of West NC which is eager to get crafting materials to the people affected by the storm. I am in the midst of a major purge in order to deliver craft materials to those who have suffered such immense loss. Maybe we could share our abundance by donating craft packs to other areas that are reeling from disasters.
Austin’s acquired all the stock from Among Friends, which used to be THE quilt shop in Louisville (pre-pandemic). Thankfully, they are adding new, current lines as well.
Hi! I do go to Hobby Lobby but Joann’s has been a great option for extra variety of fabrics. Now I keep hearing that they can go out of business on us in a couple of months. I am praying they don’t! Cuz the other fabric store around here is super super spendy! Anyone else will miss them like me?
I agree with you regarding JoAnn's! I have 3 stores in the Des Moines area to choose from, and they are all chaotic messes!! They never have the items I want. The shelves are not stocked, boxes stacked in the aisles and not enough help.
I recently bought from Scribbly Gum Co and although they're in AUS and I'm on Canada it was a easy process and the prices weren't too bad. They have really nice pre-made bundles
I like to follow Karen from Just Get It Done Quilts when she hosts a Declutter Event every January. People post their before photos on Facebook. It’s years and years of buying more than they use. The happiness of the purchase ends as soon as we put the fabric in our stash unless we make something with it. I feel like it’s the same people who complain about waste and a throw away society. I had to clean out my mother in laws hoard of a house twice. So much waste. I feel so strongly about buying responsibly. I don’t ever want to go through that again. 😂
Bahahaha! Sew true! Trying to convince my 77 year old mom to purge some fabric if she doesn’t love it now. Shouldn’t put it into a quilt to fill a space, really needs to look good too!
Great video! It Really hit home for me, as I have become a "fabric hoarder" instead of quilter! I really need to downsize on my fabric as my daughter does Not sew and has no interest in learning. I will probably donate some and need to sell some but don't know how to price it so it will move. Do you have ideas on that matter ?
I believe it's a Jane Austen inspired pieced project quilt. I don't know how anyone has the skill and patience to make something so pretty and detailed. I love it too.
Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy, the main characters from Pride and Prejudice (the Jane Austen novel). Looks like these two are from the 1995 BBC series adaptation, as opposed to the 2005 film adaptation. The pattern is probably paper pieced.
Sudden realization you live near me as you mentioned Austin's Sewing Center. I wish you'd included links or addresses for places you mentioned. I've got a Joann's a mile or so from my house that is decent, I do a lot of garment sewing so the quilting shops don't quite work for what I want since I'm not specifically wanting cotton. I wish there were more shops for garment fabrics.
And I do realize you put links to most of the others, it was just the local place that I didn't know of before that I was hoping I could be lazy with a link.
I collected fabric while I was working so I’d have a stash. Now retired and I’m working my way through my stash, so I’m not that 75 yo with fabric falling over. (I’m 59).
The shower!! I'm a 74 year old woman with a large stash but I never thought of the shower! What a great idea!!! (Kidding. . . maybe.)
😂😂
Oh my goodness! Thank you, Nikki, for the shout-out and the love! ❤ I LOVED this video and found myself agreeing with you out loud ("Yes!""Mm-hmm!" "Me too!" "So glad you brought that up!" etc LOL) I love your channel and all the practicality and honesty that you bring to it---it's so refreshing! 😊
Aw thanks, I love your channel too! It’s the joy you exude that makes it even better 🫶🏻
Such a great idea
Very thoughtful of you. ❤
As a person who received a bag of fabric when I got interested in quilting I thank you it was a wonderful way to learn without guilt of cost
@ I imagine you sorting and dream up projects. That’s how I was with this bag. She’ll be able to practice and not worry about mistakes meaning lost money. 😉

Yes, Blackbird Fabrics is great!

I love thrifting fabric! I have a couple smaller church thrift stores near me that have great fabric sections. I also use sturdy cotton sheets to make rag rugs and thrift stores are great for that.
I buy all the cotton sheets I can find at thrift stores.
I love the Ruby Star Grab bags💕
I so enjoy your videos! If I'm feeling down, I feel better. If I'm feeling lazy, I end up motivated. If I'm feeling creative frenzy with a dash of scattered (meant as a compliment) I don't feel alone. This video - my migraine went away (probably the candle ambience). 🙆♀️ You're a wonder!
Thank you for being on YT Nikki. Thank you Layla for your editing skills! Pin Cut Sew is top tier YT content. ❤
Aw thank you for this comment!!
@PinCutSew you are most welcome 🇨🇦
Yes! She is like a 'bubbly' drink!! :)
That’s so sweet
If you haven’t discovered Marshall Dry Goods you need to. Just bought multiple yards of solids and background fabric for $4.95 per yard. Buy all my backing there too .
I’ll check it out!
I love Marshall Dry Goods!!
SUCH a great *episode* of Pin Cut Sew!! For me, I found the most value in learning about the scrap bags.
Thank you for giving me a nice, relaxing project to do this evening -- research scrap bags! 😍
I absolutely adore Catbird Quilts here on youtube!!
I'm so glad to hear someone else shares my opinion of JoAnn's. My store never has what I need and selection of what is there is so small. I agree the changes they've made are not for the better.
It's awful!
@@barbgeorge8927we have a great Joann’s here in Augusta GA.
I have two Joann stores that I can go to one is actually in my neighborhood and it’s still very clean store still has a lot of options
But I buy my fabric from the guys in Las Vegas they have online fabric sales Tuesdays and Thursdays I mean Tuesdays and Saturdays sorry 4 PM Pacific time called Sew Yeah Quilting
Tuesdays it’s $11.75 a yard and then on Saturday it’s seven dollars Yard with five dollars shipping for US
They have a ton of variety and they have online website as well as a sale room they think those fabrics are six dollars a yard
Thanks for sharing your favorite stores!
Love y’all! ❤❤❤
It’s in Batesville, Arkansas.
I went to pueblo, co today, hobby lobby all 40% off and got my medium to mix with acrylic paint to I can paint on fabric for my bags and such, went to joanns and found some fabric for binding for my rag quilt, had a fun day, however Hubby was bummed he didn't get to go!
I love Stylemaker fabrics for garments. the fabric that I've ordered is exquisite!
The file, dont stack has helped me alot!
In thrift stores, be sure to look in the sheets and tablecloth sections. Some amazing bargains there. Also sewing patterns and notions.
I did a Marie Kondo thing--
"Does it bring me joy?"
"How long have I had it?"
I contacted a friend who loves to sew, make and sell.
She left with 3 garbage bags full and a tote bin.
Now to see what's left!
I once saw a bookcase quilt and the creator used salvage edges using the bit with the writing with a bit of the pattern.
I buy lots of fabric from Missouri Star. Every once in a while they have Mystery boxes with multiple large pieces of fabric. Always something fun is in those boxes
That's what I have done for years! I buy large men's shirts from Good Will and make quilts! You can find some great fabric!
I have bought 1 pound bags of scrap fabric and mystery bags of fabric from Fabric Addiction 1
on Etsy.
Smart. Very very smart.
Totally with you 100% I do not like winter if the sun doesn’t come out I just stay in bed for maybe 12 hours I feel bad for my kitty cats
Fortunately I don’t get snowed in because I purposely moved to a place that had the most even level of weather and where I could afford to buy a house
Fabric I’ve been getting my fabric online from Sew Yeah Quilting and they really do sell quality fabric from a lot of very well-known and reputable manufactures and designers
My problem is, I buy fabric for a specific project, but then life gets in the way (full time job with overtime) and then I never get around to making that project, and that leads to stash. But I am on a no-buy roll for both fabric and patterns this year, until I make some of those projects that are in my mind.
I'm the same way.
I wish we had a local quilt shop!
@@proud2bktsmama Me too.
Thank you great info.❤😊
Love your viewpoint on stash building. I just recently found a motherload of fabric at the thrift store, tons of yardage and fat quarters!!
Love Sew Yeah! I used to work there and that's how I got into quilting! My budget cannot handle the live sales haha
This has been such a weird winter for everyone. Here in southern Oregon it's FOG. I'm so sick of it. I feel claustrophobic! I need some sunshine! Thank you for making me feel better about the fact that I'm OVER WINTER!
I love Stitchersgarden for fabrics!
Im listening and crocheting a "Winter Wonderland" square. Its a snowman😂.
@thefrenchseam in Indianapolis has both beautiful cottons as well as garment fabric. It is locally owned by a mother and daughter
I store in drawers by color too!
It was Sarah's Fabrics and it's packed full, almost too much to look at,lol!
Do they have scrap bags there?
@ngsiahaan at Amazon, yes. At Sarah's, I don't know.
I order from Marshall Dry Goods. They have great solid blender bundles.
I started off only purchasing Fabric when I had a plan for it then I got hooked on the online sale with Sew Yeah Quilting from Las Vegas
But I have stopped purchasing Fabric for that very same reason you mentioned
And yes I actually do have some fabric in the closet in the guest bathroom but very little. It’s actually fabric to make clothes not quilts
If any of you can’t bring yourself to throw out some fabric make a quilt top and a quilt back for charity. And maybe just stick a flannel sheet in between or batting scraps
Sew Yeah Quilting does an Alaska drive every year where they actually send hundreds of quilts up to the areas of Alaska that are so remote
They won’t care if the quilt top and the quilt are made out of fabric scraps
I’m hoping Joann closing will make way for the comeback of local fabric stores!
I'm in upstate SC. It's been too cold here lately. So ready for spring. I have been living in fleece leggings and hoodies with wool socks on. I'm over it.
@@JennMClinton Me, too, in the upstate. I’m getting tired of boots, lol
I hear ya. I lived in Fairbanks Alaska for 18 years after living in Las Vegas and So California. HATE cold winter.
Marshall Dry Goods has such reasonable prices and a large selection!
Our hobby lobby cut their fabric section big time. I order joann online.get great deals there. But you dont get to touch it. Only one real quilt shop near me( 1/2 hour away). Really nice but really expensive.
I support Joann's with others because 2020 should not kill any more businesses, but it is one of several. Your philosophy is good.
Snow in KY sounds like snow in MS!
I agree with you about JoAnn's
Great tips! I have not heard some of these before.
My Joann store in Sacramento CA is close and easy, but so disfuncțional. When I go I can’t help myself but help organize their shelves. 😉
I agree with you regarding JoAnn's! I have 3 stores in the Des Moines area to choose from, and they are all chaotic messes!! They never have the items I want. The shelves are not stocked, boxes stacked in the aisles and not enough help.
They won't be around long now. They just filed for their second chapter 11 in less than a year.
Do you have a video on the quilted couple on the wall behind you??
I have the same issue with Joanne out here in So Cal. Understaffed and out of what I need often.
HUGE fan of supporting local shops, but I have found a great 108 wide at Hobby Lobby that I use for the majority of my quilts.
Bahahaha! Sew true! Trying to convince my 77 year old mom to purge some fabric if she doesn’t love it now. Shouldn’t put it into a quilt to fill a space, really needs to look good too!
I hate winter too and I live in San Diego! Joanne's declared Bankruptcy for the 2nd time. They are trying to sell to another company.
Thanks for the tips. I didn't know Hobby Lobby had clothing fabric. That has been challenging.
I like that picture in the back ground, the early American man and woman. Is that a painting or a applique picture.
I believe it's a Jane Austen inspired pieced project quilt. I don't know how anyone has the skill and patience to make something so pretty and detailed. I love it too.
It’s Lizzie and Darcy! The pattern is by Fancy Lad Quilt Co
Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy, the main characters from Pride and Prejudice (the Jane Austen novel). Looks like these two are from the 1995 BBC series adaptation, as opposed to the 2005 film adaptation.
The pattern is probably paper pieced.
I have gotten some very nice fabric at Connecting Threads.
And to reply to myself again on your Hobby Lobby comment for garment fabric, I got lots of it there for years, especially when my kids were younger.
I've inherited tons of fabric from elderly ladies from church.
The scrap bag idea on Etsy is BRILLIANT! Just what I needed to bridge my fabric gap and ease my frugal mind.
LA Finch Fabrics is similar to Cali Fabrics. Love her end of bolt specials.
I collected fabric while I was working so I’d have a stash. Now retired and I’m working my way through my stash, so I’m not that 75 yo with fabric falling over. (I’m 59).
