      @@DaveWight-wc8vl on the 2003 Silverado, it's actually above the tank, but semi-accessible (and visible) from the separation between the bed and cab. I didnt remove bed/tank. I removed 1 bolt for the holding bracket of evap vent solenoid. Then wiggled bracket off of solenoid and pulled it out. then using micro flat head to help disconnect electrical wire on inner side of solenoid carefully, and then used two micro screw drivers to help me pry off vapor line. The replacement is slightly different desing and supposed to be improved. So it came with new bracket that bolts in old brackets hole yet now instead of facing towards gas tank, faces away from it. Used wire extension to make wire reach and replaced hose even though that was the same. The new model has charcoal filter as a seperate component from the evap solenoid connected by a line which I ran along the frame and ziptide in place.

    Just finished this repair myself on my 2005 Chev. Silverado 1500 5.3 Vortec ext. Cab. I will agree that if you have a vehicle lift in an AC cooled shop yeah, not a big deal to stand under it and make the repair. My truck is a work truck and low to the ground and as a contractor and owner of said truck..im the repair shop as well. On your back in the driveway in 95 degree heat this was a big pain in the ass lol. It was in the middle of the vehicle and I had to jack it up, place jack stands and crawl way up under it...noooo fun but im sure I save a good bit of coin doing it myself. At least i can reset this maddening engine light with my scan tool now. Great video, really helped.

    Do not forget that little, tiny sensor on the gas pump top... It dies and no pressures are noticed... It's the reason why just replacing the evap vent valve does not fix the evap valve code.... Mine did this...........

    • @SeanSoutherland-b4s
      @SeanSoutherland-b4s ปีที่แล้ว

      Well when the vent valve goes bad it starts to build pressure outside of the normal allowed tolerance limits and it could hit that sensor and damage it to. So that's a good point, to keep your eyes peeled for that after you replace it, it's possible that you might need to replace a faulty sensor as well. Thank you for that share and reminder.

    • @SeanSoutherland-b4s
      @SeanSoutherland-b4s ปีที่แล้ว

      If you clearly have issues venting the pressure in your gas tank and then you change this valve. The sensor will not prevent you from filling up your tank and it will not cause you to have to pump your gas like a carbureted engine just to get it to start after you fully fill up your tank.

    Not only does the design and location differ from model to model but it also differs from year to year. On the 03 Silverado 5.3s the oe vent is the same style (solenoid & vent in one) but different design and in a completely different location. It is much harder to get to, almost impossible without lifting the bed or dropping the tank at least.

    Just a dumb question ,2003 ,4.8 sierra . After owning this for years It started to not shut off the gas pump when its filling . Very messy. A friend thought it was the solenoid and he replaced it but it did not fix it . I did notice when the tank is full the vent hose is whats making the overflowing . Any Ideas ? Thanks

  • @slowpoke96Z28

    I probably would've use heater hose seeing as its not necessarily designed to be compatible with modern fuel blends, especially ethanol. It SHOULDN'T ever see vaporized fuel, but its not protected from it either when the vent is closed.
