    Great review! Little detail to add: the rear light isn’t USB-powered, it runs off a rechargeable battery which is charged through a Micro USB cable. You can’t charge the light while it’s attached, so the USB socket on the seat post will always be available for you to use.

    • @Ennovation
      @Ennovation  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Joe! Appreciate the heads up about the light! When I reviewed the bike (and when they launched their crowdfunding campaign) they said they were going to include/upgrade to such a light in the near future. I guess they still haven't done that, or at least, I haven't seen someone mention that they have such a light. I appreciate the feedback on the review :) I hope you're enjoying the bike!

    I've been reading reviews of this bike. Apparently, it weighs 35 pounds, not 31 pounds. I know this bike is touted all over TH-cam but I don't know if this is marketing or it really is a good e-bike.

    I found a place that has these in stock so I will overcome the only disadvantages I could find with this bike: not being able to test ride or return. I have watched this video 3-4 times because you are the only independent person who has reviewed the Carbo X in any detail. The review was very helpful, and I suspect I will walk away with one tomorrow. I am impressed with the carbon belt, the light weight and the sleek design. Thanks!

      Hey! Thank you for checking us out, and I'm glad you found the video helpful! Where did you find these in stock?? That is awesome!! Such a good way to go: getting hands-on and having the advantage of a test ride (plus the local support!!). Did you end up taking one home?

      @@Ennovation I found them at Greenpath Electric Bikes in Brooklyn. Awesome folks and a great place to test out bikes because there are big urban hills all around the store. I rode the carbo X with a 250 motor and a Carbo S with a 350 motor; both with a throttle. If I had bought on line without a test drive I would have chosen the 350. And I would have waited several weeks for the bike. But as it turns out that is too much power for me and doesn’t allow me to get exercise. So I went home with the X model with a 250 motor and the upgraded battery, rack and mud flaps, and an upgraded seat. I just got back from a 7.5 mile ride and never got out of eco mode. I used the throttle briefly on hills a couple times. It is an awesome bike and easy for me to fold and put in my car so I can take it to places that are safer to ride than around town. I tried the Vectron and could barely lift it. Plus I was worried about damaging the derailleur. I am a 67 year old woman and am just getting back on a bike after about 35 years, so my endurance and balance are not what they used to be. This bike is the perfect assistant to get me back in shape and to allow me to keep up with my grown sons when I get a chance to ride with them. Thank you so much for giving me the encouragement to find one and try it. Were it not for this video I probably would have been too skeptical of such a new product. But for me the difference between 30 and 50 pounds and the durability of the belt drive were decisive.

      @@UmmuTahir That is awesome! I'm glad you had somewhere close to test them out and choose the right bike for you! If you have any other questions about it as you go on more rides, please let me know and I'll see if I can be of help :) Thank you again for watching the video and I wish you the best with the bike!

    Is it true that the Carbo Model X 350 watt version only has a real world range of 12 miles ( 19 km )?

    • @Ennovation

      You know I'm not entirely sure, but that does seem extremely low to me. My mom has this one, and she gets the advertised range pretty easily, obviously she's always pedaling, but I would think the range of 12 miles seems really low, just for adding an additional 100-watts to the motor.

    • @MB_MN_19
      @MB_MN_19 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would think the light weight of this bike means you can get by just fine with a lower watt motor. The Rad Power, for example, has 750w motor, but that bike weighs ~twice as much, has rack options for all kinds of cargo, and even a passenger seat option to carry another human. That much power may be needed for 300 pounds of payload on a hefty bike, but that’s not this bike.

    At what speed does the motor kick in? Does the bike move on its own once you are on one of the modes?

    • @Ennovation
      @Ennovation  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Paras! The motor will kick in at any speed (if assistance is selected) With this particular model I don't believe there is a "cruise control" or sustained speeds function, however, since this model only had the pedal assistance, I'm unsure if the throttle, when attached, would unlock that feature, as that is generally more of a throttle specific function. It's always nice to hit that 20mph and cruise!

    • @Ennovation
      @Ennovation  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lukesmifff4612 I don't think so...it's about 2" on the outside of the tube, and comparing it visually to another that is the 1 1/4" it looks way beefier. If you were wanting to get the BMX feel out of it, you could get their strait stem (the angled is shown in the review), and then replacing the handlebars is a piece of cake. You may be limited to width based on the stock clamp configuration they have, but the handlebars don't strike me as overly "skinny", so you'd probably be safe throwing some new bars on there.

      Hi Luke, how are the rides with Carbo? I m thinking to buy one but hesitate since there is no physical test ride and I cannot return the bike once delivered. I worry that what if it is not as good or if it is not right for me. I commute over 10km each way weekly. Climbing 7-10 deg hills. I d like to take longer weekend rides too. Not sure if Carbo can deliver?

    • @Ennovation
      @Ennovation  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@kinyanlau9030 Hey Kin, just throwing in my 2 cents here, I think this bike is an amazing option for a city/urban commute, but if you're going to be spending a lot of time climbing hills I don't know if this is the right tool for that job. Maybe if you got the upgraded 350w motor this would be a better option, but even then I might look at something with a mid-drive or more powerful motor. Now, I've ridden this bike much further than that, and honestly probably got closer to 30 miles on a single charge over multiple days. That was broken up into 3 or 4 rides around town. And, since this bike can easily be folded up and probably stored inside your workplace, you could also charge it there if you needed it. So, distance should be fine, and even going on those longer rides on the weekends would be fun! Again, I don't think it'd be the right tool for the job if I am climbing hills, predominantly. But if you're looking at a commute with no hills? This IS the perfect tool for that! :) Let me know if you have any more questions on it, and @luke I'd be excited to see how yours has handled hills if you have any?

    • @Ennovation
      @Ennovation  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey there! So, for the Carbo, they don't have handlebar up and down adjustments, although they do have a straight stem, that brings the handlebars back a little bit more than the angled stem I have installed on this review model. Hope that helps! :)

  • @viruspadel1949

    hello! one question: when riding the bike does the bicycle seat remains firm or does it go a little down? I am asking this because the seat is so similar to the Fiido D11 and I know that that seat falls down when riding. Thanks, great review and happy new year🥳

      @Ennovation  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey Foto! Thanks for stopping by to give us a watch! I found that the seatpost battery and tube fit like a glove. I never experienced any slippage or sliding. Sounds like there may be some larger than expected seat tubes with the Fiido? I haven't heard one way or the other, but if the seat post is not able to grip the seatpost battery, that would be my first guess at the culprit. ;)

    • @Ennovation
      @Ennovation  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Lynn! The handlebars are not adjustable, but there are two different handlebar/stem options. The one that I chose to put on there is the angled stem, so the stem actually goes away from me slightly. They also have their straight stem, which will follow the angle of the front fork, so that will come back maybe 15 degrees or so. That's what I would suggest if you're under 5'4". The folding clasp is hard enough to feel secure, but not too hard to where a majority of people couldn't open it. I don't foresee you having any problems with the folding clasp. I hope that answers your questions, Lynn!

    Being single geared, how is the pedal cadence over 15mph? Would you be pedaling uncomfortably fast so you miss more gears? Thanks!

    • @Ennovation
      @Ennovation  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Pau! Thanks for stopping by :) It is a single gear. The belt drive version paired with the rear-hub motor doesn't give us any of those fancy continuous/fluid gearings as we've seen in some of the fancy, top-end models. In my personal experience, I did not miss the extra gears. But, this model was only going to 15 MPH, as opposed to the US model that has a higher top speed. Up to 15 MPH it was super easy to pedal, very good cadence for me pedaling around the neighborhood. I would guess that it would still be a solid cadence at 20 MPH as well, but that would be an educated guess, as I wasn't able to test that out personally.

  • @lazurm
    @lazurm 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I currently own a Specialized Creo SL Carbon and, with the extra external battery (called the "Range Extender") I can easily obtain 50 miles+ under the programming I use in the Mission Control app and by deftly moving between the various levels (I have a handlebar mounted two button control to change levels which makes this very easy to do). I would like this bike to go 35ish miles with, say, around a 1000-1200 foot elevation. But...my system has 480 watt hours while this system has only 250 watt hours, not to mention that the 36 volt system is 2/3rd's as efficient as the 48 volt system. My guess is that I'd be lucky to get 25 miles out of one battery charge.
    My system can generate 35 NM and that feels very good, doesn't feel like the system is jolting you forward and, in fact, feels more like your own legs are doing the work.
    How easy is it to carry an extra battery and exchange it? Is there any problems transporting this bicycle on an airline (in terms of the battery)?
    When not pedaling, in the pedal assist mode, does the motor completely disengage? Is there motor drag?

    • @andrewpark7242
      @andrewpark7242 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The problem with an extra battery is that it's in the seat post. If you buy another battery you would have to take the seat on and off of each battery.or carry two seats

    • @lazurm
      @lazurm 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@andrewpark7242 Yes, toting an extra battery is out of the question for most users. I agree.
      As for air transport, I would ship the battery separately as this battery wouldn't be allowed in the cargo on a commercial airline.

      That's an excellent question actually! You definitely can still coast. It's not a fixed gear, with the ability to brake by stopping the pedaling motion. Just a single speed. I test rode mine on a hill that is pretty steep and goes up for 4 city blocks. Even the 250 motor on the Carbo X gave plenty of pedal assist for the job, and I am NOT in good shape. I am relatively light, however at 140 lb. The 350 motor even in eco mode made me feel like it was going to leave me in the dust :). The throttle by itself was also sufficient on both bikes. If you have steep hills and really want to maintain 20 mph the 350 is probably the better choice.

    Newbie to the belt drive system. As compared to shifting gears. Can I ride this in bike mode and switch gears . Or does it stay in one gear. If so what happens if I need more or less torque ?

    • @Ennovation
      @Ennovation  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there! Great questions! I'll see if I can answer those clearly for you. 1. There are no gears to shift, so I would think about it as a single speed bike. You can change the level of pedal assist, but that's the only thing that changes. 2. There are some internally geared, carbon belt motors, but I'm like 90% positive that this is not the case here. So, in my experience, the only way to get more or less torque, is to increase the level of PAS that you're driving with. Now, I don't think that changes the true torque of the motor, but it's perceived as having more power, torque, etc. My mom, who has this bike now, loves it and still rides it every day, usually staying in PAS 1, sometimes 2. She does like to brag about how she doesn't need the top PAS, but I think she doesn't love going fast like the rest of us :P

    So far I've seen almost all these e-bikes are designed for carrying them with you at all time. I mean if you could not carry with you just in cast and lock it up with a bike u-lock at the bike-stops, at lease you have to remove and carry the battery/seat with you for anti-theft. That's a bit inconvenience. And they are not cheap at all! Hopefully the designers and manufacturers can come up with something on this issue. No slips, just kept rolling like we were on concrete. Now, if there were larger sized gravel pieces, you'd still probably be fine, but I would just keep in mind that the tires are on the smaller side of things, so they wouldn't do too well trying to go over golf-ball sized chunks, but this bike will handle regular type of crushed gravel, and other parts of the rails-to-trails.

    One quick question: Is there a motor cut-off when you squeeze the brakes?

  • @durandromain
    @durandromain 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I’m hesitating between the gocycle GXi and this one.
    I don’t really care about the gocycle design as such so I’m more tempted by the carbo which is much cheaper and lighter.
    My only concern/question: in comparison with gocycle that is quite comfortable, do you think the carbo can be used for commuting or is it rather for short journeys ( last-mile) ?

    • @Ennovation
      @Ennovation  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey there! Thanks for stopping by and watching our review! So, in short, I do think that this could be used for a city commuter quite effectively (depending on terrain, and things you'd need to transport in your commute) If we're talking about a laptop and things that could easily fit in a backpack, or a small briefcase that we could throw on a back rack, then this could easily fit the bill. FOR ME, I found the thinner saddle they offer to give me a little soreness when going on rides of around 10 miles or so, so I might opt for the other saddle option they have, or look to upgrade that to something that fits my butt a little better. They also have that angled stem/straight stem option, so depending on your reach, that may be something to decide on as well. Once you get to the office you need very little space to store it! You can wheel it by keeping the stem unfolded, till you get to your desk, or I personally just carry it fully assembled because the balance is pretty good, and carrying it streamlined against my body is easier, than having to counter the balance of holding the wider package of the bike fully compacted. Not that it weighs anymore, but the physics just makes walking with it fully assembled I found to be easier. BUT once I'm where I need to store it, it'll break down quickly and slide into a closet, or under the desk out of the way. If I was going to be commuting for LONG distances, say 10-15 miles each way, I may look for something that is a bit bigger and has a battery that can last a bit longer. Although, with this bike when the battery is off, it's very easy to ride as well, unlike other, bigger Ebikes that I might consider for a longer commute.

    Hi there! I might be moving to the UK, so I need a bike that fits their regulations. I know throttle without pedaling is not allowed there, but a throttle mode that requires very minimal pedal motion is OK. Would this bike do that in pedal assist, or is quite a bit of pedaling required to get to 10-15 mph (on the flat)?

    • @Ennovation
      @Ennovation  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      First, I gotta say I'm not an expert on the UK regulations. There are alot of different things I hear about what's allowed, and where it's allowed. Carbo seems to have a few customers who are from the UK, and I've seen some reviews on their site and nothing mentioned about being out of regulations. Those are just some clues, and not necessarily a go-ahead, imo. They have an app, which I believe you can use to contain the speed limit to UK standards, and they offer a version without a throttle (which was the one I reviewed). I would think this wouldn't be a bad get for both the US and UK, if it fits your needs as well of course. Getting the battery over and back might be tricky, as I've heard some stories about shipping and batteries and all that stuff.

    • @rm5700

    • @Ennovation
      @Ennovation  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@rm5700 From what I remember it's not too much. But it does utilize a torque sensor as well, so it is a bit more responsive as far as giving you power, or not, based on pedaling, so it might be a bit more on the "you gotta be pedaling to go" side of things. The X is also a belt-drive, so you couldn't fake it out by going in high gear and pedaling slowly to get up to the top speeds like with one of their other models. So if you can't have the throttle, and you need something you could pedal less, but still get the power from the bike, this one might not fit that bill exactly. I would see if you could test ride one, but that might not be a super viable option.

      From the review side, I usually test ride most bikes with my seat too low, and that's just an aesthetics thing for the video. That way people can see as much of the screen and other cockpit-related things while we're doing the review. With this one, You can get some pretty decent extension on the seat, plus you've got the two options with the handlebars (straight or angled). I agree with you 100% on not being able to test ride your bike first. I usually recommend that people take full advantage of local shops and dealers with the consumer brands that have that option. I have a friend over here who got an Aventon Aventure and thought he was going to love it, but just wasn't the ride feel he was expecting. He could have saved himself the trouble and hopped on one at a local shop prior to purchase in that case. He was able to sell it to somebody else within the week for basically what he paid for it, so not a total loss, but test rides are where it's at!

      (Just so you know, I have bought my most comfortable shoes ever online. Of course, I like a certain brand, but I also know that I can send them back free of shipping charges.) I bought an e-bike online and love it, but am looking at this one because it weighs 1/3 of what my current bike does.

    Useless review. Just some general platitudes. Dude, you talk too much! Way too much! Damn, a 21 minute review that could have been done in less than half that time. On top of that you don't answer the most important question I have. Wha t percent incline will it handle?

      Hey there! First off, that’s a fair assessment of the review. Fortunately for us, I’ve got a lot better and much more detailed/focused with the things we do discuss. As far as a number for incline, I’m not sure about a figure for that. I tested it on a hill that was probably close to a 15-20 grade. It didn’t handle that super well. It was going, but I was definitely having to help it out a bit. I did have the the 250w version, so the extra 100 watts may have helped in the hill department, but probably not in a super noticeable way. If it were me I wouldn’t get this one if hills were a big factor in my decision.

      Dang! Sorry to hear that you're having issues with it. I gave this exact bike to my mom when I finished the review, and she's almost got 1,000 miles on it and rides it 3-4 times weekly, without any issues. So, possible you got a bad one there. I hope you can get it resolved quickly!

      Not only haven't I got it working no one is willing to work on it because no one has a clue how to fix them. It's by far the worst bike I ever owned. The bike is not sturdy. Everything breaks within two months for me and I just ridden it. I think about 2530 miles and the customer service they will not pick up the phone. It's all about how you have to email on their website and if you look online, there's no way to find reviews on this bike. It's only on their website, which says a lot.

      Honestly, I wasn’t 100% sure they were in business anymore. Cause how many years ago was this review?!? lol If they are going to be selling bikes, I would hope they could figure out the customer service side of things. I may have an old email I could reach out to. Let me see if I can find that, cause it was so long ago.
