    Studio Link is the greatest thing ever. I'm already finding myself just using Publisher for things I used to do in Photo or Designer ... because it's just SO easy to flip between them! Affinity is KILLING IT right now!!

    I have been really impressed with Publisher from the start of the Beta. I was very much looking forward to it, as InDesign is the program I use every day and I was still using an old version and would have to make the jump to CC sometime unless a different program came along that could do the job. I have looked at Quark but that one feels so awkward to work with, the interface is dated and it feels slow, everything would take much longer than in Indesign, which is very bad. Publisher on the other hand felt almost instantly at home. I could use my indesign workflow almost immediately in Publisher, so I could do work in it almost as quickly as a program I have been using for many years. The studio link feature makes it even better, as it allows me to work even faster and more intuitively. It has already allowed me to have a nicer and more creative workflow. I love it!

    Hey Ben! Thanks for your videos about Affinity Photo and Publisher! As a newly converted Affinity user, I found your videos (although some are still a bit rough around the edges) quite helpful. Especially considering some of the other, often rather cringe-worthy and tedious videos out there. I think you may have great potential in this regard - way beyond the currently unjustifiedly low subscriber count. That's why I'd like to encourage you to continue making videos about these Apps and their particular functions, workflows etc. - especially about non-obvious and advanced topics. At least that's what I'd find interesting...Cheers!

    I agree with this. Studio Link is a more powerful tool than just having the ability to use native file formats a la InDesign and QuarkXpress. Will be using this a lot in the coming weeks and months ahead.

    Good video , clear. And a great feature. I'm not publishing books or folders, but Publisher and its StudioLink looks very nice to experiment with.
    Now that is on sale (april2020), Designer costs about 27 euro's, and that is less then half a tank of fuel for my car ... and it will last longer.
    So, I'm going to get it.

    Last month, I decided not to renew my Adobe subscription. And I haven't had a moment of regret. There was nothing in PS or AI that I couldn't do with Affinity Photo and Designer, at least as well, sometimes better.

    only ONE very BIG missing in Publisher: THE FOOTNOTE system, I can't use without footnote & endnote

    • @Inkling777
      @Inkling777 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed. I do science texts with 1000+ endnotes. There's no way I can kludge that. Endnotes needs to be a built-in feature. That said, it took Adobe about 18 years to add endnotes to InDesign, so I'm not going to complain if Affinity takes a couple of years to do the same.
      Regular expression search and replace is also critical. They save a lot of time when you're dealing with a 500+ page book. I've got dozens of helpful GREP S&Rs for InDesign. I tried cutting and pasting them into Publisher and ran into glitches. It'd help if Affinity offered more help than there is at this link, even if that help was no more than pointing us to a specific link or book detailing how to write Publisher-compliant regular expressions.
      "Regular expressions extend the capabilities and power of the Find and Replace function beyond searching for simple text strings. They are widely used across the word-processing and DTP community, with a multitude of expressions available. As a result, listing regular expressions and their syntax is beyond the scope of Affinity Publisher Help. Please use Internet resources to research and develop your own regular expressions."

    FYI - StudioLink only works when the Affinity apps are installed in the Applications Folder (Mac OS X only version). I had them installed in a folder in my Applications folder and moving them to the top level in the Applications folder solved the linking issues.

    • @bendesignsmedia

      Not yet, Publisher has not come out for iPad yet and StudioLink is a Publisher feature. That being said you can open Affinity Designer files in Affinity Photo and vice versa, so it still works well, it is just not as seamless as StudioLink.

    Does anyone know how to use the Export Persona when using Affinity Studio? The normal personas seem to disappear.

    • @bendesignsmedia
      @bendesignsmedia  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not everything from designer is available from publisher while using studio link, I don't think there is a way to access the export persona. Publisher is primarily aimed at designing documents so they probably didn't think the export persona features would be needed very often. You can open that document in designer though and use the export persona.

    Would studio link work with only publisher and photo? I could use publisher but don’t need illustrator.

    • @StevenVentimiglia
      @StevenVentimiglia 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup. The Designer persona just won't be linked to StudioLink, since you don't own it. It just depends on what you've purchased. Publisher works on its own, and if you have either of the other two (Affinity Designer or Affinity Photo), they are seamlessly integrated into it so you don't need to run all the programs at once. It's genius.

    • @andersbrathen
      @andersbrathen 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You will of course need to buy Affinity Designer, to use it's functionality. Otherwise it would be a bad business plan...

    • @ChrisPollard
      @ChrisPollard 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes. Basically if you don't own Illustrator, it just won't be available as an option. I already had both, and love them both for different tasks. But a couple of days in, I find myself just using Publisher and switching between Photo and Illustrator with StudioLink, even if I'm not working on a layout that requires Publisher's features ... because it lets me combine raster and vector seamlessly in one place. Affinity is killing it right now. If only they had a way for one purchase to work across platforms. But y'know, for the price, it's worth buying twice!

    • @geru2000
      @geru2000 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ChrisPollard, I have (although not installed now) Serifs Page Plus X8, I used it quite frequently. I never used nor purchased the other program. I just wanted to be sure that the two programs will work as seamlessly as all three.

    • @StevenVentimiglia
      @StevenVentimiglia 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ChrisPollard - Basically what I've done to support them over the past couple of years.
      Wait for their holiday sale at 30% off. I bought all versions (Mac, Win, iOS), plus the books for both Designer and Photo. Just did the same with Publisher (since I was a beta user and got 30% off), and will buy the book and iOS version as soon as they're released.
      Total cost so far has been $310 for Win, Mac and iOS versions w/ the books. A steal for a suite of design programs like this, for three platforms, with official workbooks (hardcover and beautiful.)
      If you break this down, it's approx 10 months of a Photoshop (or 4 months of a full CC) subscription - which, if you stopped your subscription, you can no longer access your cloud storage or the software.
      Plus Adobe doesn't offer true iPad clones of their software like Serif does with Affinity.

      I don't know that they will take over, there a still some big reasons for a company to want to stay on Adobe, but for many solo designers I think it will make sense to switch. So far they have stated they have no video aspirations, but I'm sure that could change. For now Davinci is a great alternative to both Pr and Ae.

    • @TazzSmk
      @TazzSmk 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      imo it makes no sense for Serif waste time making alternative to Premiere and After Effects, when there's Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve available for free, while being professional industry standard;
