I love these videos. In the wake of Dune being popular again, I've heard people saying that the Harkonnens would be incapable of being able to maintain such a wicked stranglehold over their labor force... They should watch these.
Morguer is unique in his perception, as well as...how do I say this. He's not as hard to look at as the other Glukkons? Like, they somehow made him "attractive". I can at least see him being considered handsome by his species's standards. I know it sounds weird, but it's true. The character design in this game is just incredible.
Personally, I like to think that the reason for that is that Morguer is actually younger than any of the Glukkons we've seen so far. Like seeing a mid-to-late twenties man among the forties-to-fifties upper group.
Only just noticed, alongside his bust, Morguer has a Mudokon skull on display behind his desk, which is a bit grim. An everpresent reminder of victory over and exploitation of the Mudokons.
Also in terms of Morguer’s accent there is a very strong German influence in Texas. During the Texan revolution against Mexico many of the rebels and settlers were German immigrants and introduced Texas to breweries, Biergartens, opera and classical music. There is an entire region here in Texas called Hill Country where it incorporates both Texan Ranch culture,Texan architecture with German heritage
It's still theoretically possible for Morguer to make a comeback. I mean, if Mullock was able to survive a direct hit from a _lightning bolt,_ Morguer might be able to survive a few bullets. Or maybe Morguer lucked out and didn't get shot at all (or maybe only got grazed) and just played dead until the rogue Sliggies left. Edit: I just now thought of something. When the Brewmaster tells Morguer and Aslik that they've been betrayed, it's possible that by doing so, he was giving them (and himself) an out. I mean, _someone_ was going to have to be blamed for all this, and the Brewmaster is the most likely suspect in this case. So Morguer's instinctive reaction to confront the Brewmaster was likely just the beginning of a wave of investigations. But when the Brewmaster insists that Mullock "betrayed" them, it allows for them to shift the blame back onto him. Like you said in your original video on the Brewmaster, he knows his Brew inside-and-out; he knows damn well it wouldn't randomly stop working without good reason. And the story he told Morguer and Aslik was almost certainly his own theory, which (if you didn't know about Abe himself), would make a lot of sense. It was probably also something of a relief for Morguer and Aslik to believe that they didn't have to blame the terrifying (and still very powerful) Brewmaster for all this ruckus, and could instead pin it on the already-maligned Mullock.
What I think makes Morguer stand out is that when they remade the Glukkons for Soulstorm to make them more distinct, and thus easier to tell apart, his appearance is very much downplayed. The others will have very exaggerated features, but his are understated, almost alluding to his cold and calmer demeanor.
With how he didn’t believe the news about Mullock I would’ve loved to see them perhaps team up or perhaps have him be the key to giving Mullock a chance to prove his innocence. Plus with how practical he is he could’ve been a very strong threat to Abe throughout the entire game. Also, stiffing your own security detail? I know he’s a Glukkon, but that just feels a bit too out-of-character.
there’s such a hilarious contrast between how realistic the glukkons faces are in soulstorm and their inherently goofy body plan and the movement in their suits that creates
I feel like its important to mention the scene at the beginning of the game where the Masked Mudokon is trying to convince abe to cut the straps over his mouth. During that scene he drops a Voodoo doll of Molluck onto the fire to place a curse on him to make the other Glukkons distrust him. This probably has some influence over why the Glukkons believe Molluck is responsible
I always thought that the Grand Lodge of Diggers Guild was, in general, the association of miners in Glukkon society. They don't just dig up bones, but any material thats under the earth. Their title in the guild depending on what material they dig up. Morguer is a Bonesman because, well, his business is bone extraction. Its what he and his mining company specialize in.
Huh, and i was watching today your video about Brewmaster and thinking "maybe i should comment that he could do video about those two glukkons?" And here we are Nice :>
Also, a thing i can add after watching the video Title "bonesman" sounds (at least to me) similarly to "bosun" which is a title of second in command onboard the ships (captain gives the order, bosun ensures the order is carried) might be a coincidence or might imply that there's someone higher up than him Probably a Brewmaster Likely without Brewmaster and his brew there would be no bone digging, so he's kind of a leader to Morque
I mean to be honest, he took cover BEHIND Asslick, and the news media was the only confirmation we got of his death. He could very much be alive in secret and become a huge antagonist later on.
First impressions are important! Morguer: * was watching TV * Aslik: * was taking a nap * Brewmaster: * was working * Let's also not forget that, to keep his miners literally in the dark to what they were digging up, Morguer blinded his mudokin "workers"......
Morguer's shortness comes from his head, which might be a bit like having a bald spot or a receding hairline around people with a full head of hair. I was going to comment on his workboots possibly suggesting his involvement in the bone mines extended to inspections that would involve protective foot (hand?) wear, but you nailed those points soon as I started to mull it over. Great video, here's hoping for more vids from you and more Oddworld games!
I think it was really cool how quickly he almost understood the situation from small info. Sure he’s a threat, but there’s always bigger sharks in oddworld. I really hope to see more characters.
I absolutely love your oddworld lore videos. I never got to actually play oddworld growing up, yet i found your lore videos a while back and ever since I've started picking up the games and giving them a try. Really love this franchise all thanks to you ❤
I like that they incorporated much of the Nazi iconography with the Gluckons and the Magog Cartel. The Pilot sligg wear the Nazi infantry field cap as well as the very Nazi inspired flag of the Magog Cartel yet they also fuse it with the odd world elements. They also added the fact of the brew is kinda inspired by the fact that during The Romanoff rule over Russia that the Tsars would encourage them to drink vodka to keep them from rebelling and such during the revolution Lenin would invoke a nation wide prohibition of Vodka and encourage the people to destroy storages of vodka
i love your take on oddworld you know here a suggestion in the future when abe sees the keeper there are so many questions i have like what did abe see during his spiritual awakening what make him break down like that what did there people do did they sell themselves or is it much more something like that is huge for the storyline i hope we get a 3rd game explaining all of this
Loved to play Oddworld back in the day on my Ps1 - Would love to see a complete video with all the lore to all the games, characters and ideas. Like, with a timeline so that everything that is seen in the games and cutscenes will be explained. Starting with the first game - and so on. Haven't seen a channel so invested in oddworld - Love it! This has been such a great game, still is. So much detail. So much love.
Smartest isn't the correct here, more so a Glukkon who is wise about his own people and their society, knowing well enough to see past their antics which are used to keep their slaves in line. It gets you to almost hope that he figures out what exactly is going on, of course he is one of the villains and yet his own investigation that he was conducting would have been interesting to follow as its own side story if Morguer was a more important character to the story.
@@This_side_of_the_internet That, well imo, has mostly to do with the plot needing the betrayal to happen. He does come across as someone who should know well enough to pay his own guards to keep them loyal. The slig more or less are only loyal because they might be treated well. But in this situation the betrayal is shaky since both him and the brew master are in a better position at the time. Molluck is the one currently taking the heat for what's going on, I think most sligz would have been hesitant to side with him seeing as how if the 3 Glukkons were to go after Molluck, and you're one of his employees, odds are that you're going to be investigated as well to see if you had a role in it. But that's just me over analyzing and overthinking this. It's really just what the plot needed to happen.
The -ar at the end of his name might be a reference a mortar, which is often used with a pestle to grind up ingredients, much like they do to the bones to make Soulstorm brew.
Oh boy more OddWorld lore videos!!! I’m really hoping for Slig Storm and perhaps a possible sequel to Stranger’s Wrath? That would be awesome ~ wink wink~ I absolutely adore the character design of Soul Storm, these Glukkons are really snappy dressers. Here’s hoping for a video about Aslik next.
Talking about the boots an Morguers appearance made me realize something from the bad ending while watching the video and now I'm afraid to ask: did anyone before saw the two tightly, seamed openings tailored at booth sides of the Glukkons suits ? I've been asking myself the question how Mulock could've thrown out his Slig from the cockpit without another subordinate in the room, but after seeing it makes quite sense how he could've done it.
I agree, the contrast between a brief somber moment of his personality and the prolonged grumpy presidential caricature is ironic! What a huge change of tone they gave to the Saga! I love it but at the same time it worries me! Despite brutal statements, it is a catalyst for greater depth!!! What a redundancy!
Another point to make is the layout of his office, rather than being nice, clean and well sorted it looks more like it's improvised or as if it functions as a storage area, with the exception of just a few things near his window. It's filled with tools, machinery, industrial lights, his TV hangs from chains and even his desk is a wheeled worktable. It might even suggesting he does not have a fixed office, but relies on being very pragmatic and move along with the mining operations everytime they clear out a sector and start digging somewhere else in the facilities. The guild icon is more likely to mimic a "Bucket wheel excavator" than a saw, given the nature of their work.
These vids are always awsome and a big part of why i love these games I've never even played. I'm doing Scifi DnD, and I definitely plan on baseing my story on the Oddworld games, offering if any of them want to play as one of the races. If they choose to be outsiders, they will have to decide to either help liberate the Mudokons or take a fat pay day from the Magog Cartel. Who knows, maybe a Stranger or Pale Slig will show up along the way!
I feel like Morguer would've suited a less restrictive suit - really show that he's not quite like the others. The Glukkon anatomy is truly terrifying under that door wedge silhouette, and a Glukkon taking (comparatively) large strides would've set him apart. I am fairly sure that the tiny shuffle steps are almost a status thing for Glukkon society, but i still feel like a different gait for Morguer would've enhanced him.
Im very proud of your acquired fame, really am, i have watched you for so long dude, stuck around, and now i see you’re in the thousands of subs, good work! Keep it up, my friend.
I don't know if it's true, but to me, the thing that would make sense is that Morguer is actually younger than any other Glukkon we've seen. His skin appears smoother than anyone else's, very little sagging or wrinkles, his head seems firmer somehow, like the skin up top is both shorter and less wobbly. Makes me think he's actually respected both because of what he does, and how young he (maybe) is. Might also explain why he's a hands-on (heh) kind of guy, as he's still full of life and vigor. Maybe most Glukkons start out like him, very eager to put in the hard work to get the profits, but over time let the success get to their head and start slowing down, making mistakes, cutting corners. Just a thought I had a while ago.
Some people: "Why does the plant blow up in the *BAD* ending? Why do they not get rid of that place in the GOOD ending?" Me: That plant supplies brew, a drink that they'll all perish without, to every factory still "employing" mudokins. If that plant goes away, the production of brew (tainted with the cure) goes bye bye, and all of them don't get the cure, on top of the supply ceasing all together.
@@Morgomir09 some part of me likes to think that a race who can help design cyborg limbs could make/fund an "emergency shut off valve" for something, especially pipes carrying a volatile liquid, to prevent an accident (train crash along the pipeline, accident at any of the connected facilities) from back feeding the line and _destroying it all!_ Case in point, Rupture Farms exploded, and they were either: A) Not connected B) Recognized as a rapidly approaching problem as it happened, and cut off manually or C) The very example of "emergency shut off valves" I speak to, above. Morguer is unique in his perception, as well as...how do I say this. He's not as hard to look at as the other Glukkons? Like, they somehow made him "attractive". I can at least see him being considered handsome by his species's standards. I know it sounds weird, but it's true. The character design in this game is just incredible.
It's ok I think morguer is cute too
Personally, I like to think that the reason for that is that Morguer is actually younger than any of the Glukkons we've seen so far. Like seeing a mid-to-late twenties man among the forties-to-fifties upper group.
It’s the sharpness, the well defined cheekbones and jawline that gives that vibe I think
Funnily enough, Molluck is canonically regarded as a handsome gluk.
I know he’s a Glukkon, but that just feels a bit too out-of-character.
not to mention as shown in that scene later, it's very dumb to stiff your *armed and dangerous* security forces out of their paycheck.
there’s such a hilarious contrast between how realistic the glukkons faces are in soulstorm and their inherently goofy body plan and the movement in their suits that creates
Huh, and i was watching today your video about Brewmaster and thinking "maybe i should comment that he could do video about those two glukkons?" And here we are
Nice :>
Also, a thing i can add after watching the video
Title "bonesman" sounds (at least to me) similarly to "bosun" which is a title of second in command onboard the ships (captain gives the order, bosun ensures the order is carried) might be a coincidence or might imply that there's someone higher up than him
Probably a Brewmaster
Likely without Brewmaster and his brew there would be no bone digging, so he's kind of a leader to Morque
It's interesting that "they're mining bones to put in consumables" isn't even that unrealistic of a premise
couldn'T believe he used to have such a terrifying name as "glukkon 2"
I mean to be honest, he took cover BEHIND Asslick, and the news media was the only confirmation we got of his death. He could very much be alive in secret and become a huge antagonist later on.
First impressions are important!
Morguer: * was watching TV *
Aslik: * was taking a nap *
Brewmaster: * was working *
Let's also not forget that, to keep his miners literally in the dark to what they were digging up, Morguer blinded his mudokin "workers"......
I love the name Morguer it just rolls off the tongue
Morguer's shortness comes from his head, which might be a bit like having a bald spot or a receding hairline around people with a full head of hair. I was going to comment on his workboots possibly suggesting his involvement in the bone mines extended to inspections that would involve protective foot (hand?) wear, but you nailed those points soon as I started to mull it over.
Great video, here's hoping for more vids from you and more Oddworld games!
Maybe Morguer is secretly still alive, playing dead underneath Aslik's corpse?
I really hope to see 'em in the future!
Either as prequels or flashbacks~
BRO THE TIMING IS GODLIKE I SHEARD FOR THIS LIKE YESTERDAY
I think it was really cool how quickly he almost understood the situation from small info.
Sure he’s a threat, but there’s always bigger sharks in oddworld. I really hope to see more characters.
I absolutely love your oddworld lore videos. I never got to actually play oddworld growing up, yet i found your lore videos a while back and ever since I've started picking up the games and giving them a try. Really love this franchise all thanks to you ❤
Thank you so much, I'm glad you like my videos and it's really nice to hear you tried the games because of them! :)
And then stalin immediately rein0lememted vodka to the point it became a secondary currency.
i love your take on oddworld you know here a suggestion in the future when abe sees the keeper there are so many questions i have like what did abe see during his spiritual awakening what make him break down like that what did there people do did they sell themselves or is it much more something like that is huge for the storyline i hope we get a 3rd game explaining all of this
Loved to play Oddworld back in the day on my Ps1 -
Would love to see a complete video with all the lore to all the games, characters and ideas.
Like, with a timeline so that everything that is seen in the games and cutscenes will be explained. Starting with the first game - and so on.
Haven't seen a channel so invested in oddworld - Love it!
This has been such a great game, still is. So much detail. So much love.
I think the "buzzsaw" on the lodge pin is actually a bucket scoop mining drill. Like the ones you see in Necrum Mines itself.
The smartest glukkon would consider paying his personal guards properly...
@@jacobj3933 Yeah, it would be pretty interesting story.
You should still pay your personal guards though.
@@jacobj3933 I wouldn't call that "betrayal". More like retaliation. But yeah, that scene was odd. Yet great at the same time.
The -ar at the end of his name might be a reference a mortar, which is often used with a pestle to grind up ingredients, much like they do to the bones to make Soulstorm brew.
Pupbenny! Ya gotta get the chance to give yourself a break! You literally keep cooking up great Oddworld lore!
Oh boy more OddWorld lore videos!!!
I’m really hoping for Slig Storm and perhaps a possible sequel to Stranger’s Wrath?
That would be awesome ~ wink wink~
I absolutely adore the character design of Soul Storm, these Glukkons are really snappy dressers.
@heckssoda588 The infamous Glukkon jump-dropkick 💪
Would a Glukkon's "shoes" be gloves in actuality? Just a thought considering the heavy boot talk.
a very entertaining video! glad to see the oddworld fandom is still going strong
0:08 THAT is a good bit!
"What are we going to dooo??!!!"
The only Gluckon that doesn't look absolutely revolting.
He could always "come back as a cyborg", quite a few stories does that.
Are you going to make a video about aslik?
I thought he already did.
I love this game's style. I hope we get a sequel.
the head WHAT 2:12
I never intend to play any of these games, but I love your videos and your voice makes my ears happy.
"NO BONES, NO BREW, I. AM. TOTALLY. SCREEWWWWED! MY CAREER IS OVER! AND IT'S THAT BLUE BASTARD'S... FAUUUULT!!" -CEO of bonewerx
Keep it mind
He was the one, before Mullock, to jump on the idea of the brew not working and thinking of a rebellion
Im very proud of your acquired fame, really am, i have watched you for so long dude, stuck around, and now i see you’re in the thousands of subs, good work!
Keep it up, my friend.
Why dont glukons use there arms because we all know they do have them thats what they walk with.
I know right
hugo-boss suits are snazzy the Glukkons know whats up.
Thank you for making theses videos. I love them so much.
Necrum mines is just an old mourge
Name correlation?
I actually commented this 20 seconds into the video
Just a thought I had a while ago.
his business was bone, what is now left of him is now bone
Im here thinking..... i wonder if Pup IS a Slig.....
Another day another great oddworld video
Some people: "Why does the plant blow up in the *BAD* ending? Why do they not get rid of that place in the GOOD ending?"
Me: That plant supplies brew, a drink that they'll all perish without, to every factory still "employing" mudokins.
If that plant goes away, the production of brew (tainted with the cure) goes bye bye, and all of them don't get the cure, on top of the supply ceasing all together.
And the fire spreading down the pipelines and destroying everything connected
@@Morgomir09 some part of me likes to think that a race who can help design cyborg limbs could make/fund an "emergency shut off valve" for something, especially pipes carrying a volatile liquid, to prevent an accident (train crash along the pipeline, accident at any of the connected facilities) from back feeding the line and _destroying it all!_
Case in point, Rupture Farms exploded, and they were either:
A) Not connected
B) Recognized as a rapidly approaching problem as it happened, and cut off manually
or
C) The very example of "emergency shut off valves" I speak to, above.
Still, even if the fire doesn't make it, _shutting off the "brew" supply would be bad enough!_
@@landonletterman831 well the aftermath for the bad end says something about the explosions and fires devestating all of western mudos
@@Morgomir09 word, we're talking about a volatile chemical plant going up. You don't need to live near one of those (like I do) to know that could ruin 1/3 of this country if let go up catastrophically (water table polluting seeping into the general area, and the noxious cloud of gas spreading for everyone else!)
Edit: We're talking a good chunk of land tainted, here, and spreading until contained. I would also venture that the real life chemical plant is only _a quarter the size_ of the Brewmaster's operation!
a bit unrelated question: will be there another oddworld game after soulstorm? is it canceled, just taking long time to make or we don't know?
2:13 they done him dirty whith the name
Oh no no no no my friend it’s not just the angle
Morguer WAS going to use aslik as Glukon shield 100% to save his own skin
He seemed to remind me of the mannerisms of Erwin Rommel. How he wasn’t always one to stay high up with the rest of the generals, how well he treated pow’s, and even though he didn’t like Nazi’s as a whole-he still had his duty to his homeland
Hey pubenny I have a idea for a future video you could rank tripod design like a tear list because I have always wondered what your favorite tripod design is
I need a dnd, pathfinder or just any TTRPG in the oddworld setting ❤
You know there's a other businesses he starter off but but he has to build his business around diggin up Bones
Glukkon's "feet" are their hands, right? I find it strange some cover them with boots. Wouldn't they want to be able to use them as hands at times? Boots would get in the way?
Thanks for the video.
I think morger was still suspicious but he didn't care molluk mighta done he might not of but the brewmaster did break out a plan where they back eachother up to get outta this and chuck molluk under the bus and I don't he cared whether or not molluk is innocent at this juncture he has financiers to worry about
Are you still thinking about the security slig uprising fan game idea
As much as I love Morguer's intimidating stature. Nothing can compare to Director Phleg's news segment.
Wonder if we'll get another Slig Stream soon
Always wondered about his little boots. Made me giggle first time I saw them. 🥾
I wish Soulstorm actually said the bones were a key ingredient. Because playing this game without the context of Abes Exoddus wouldn't tell you
I don’t know why but Morguer keeps reminding me of Maltazard from Arthur and the Minimoys.😂
Can you please organize the lore playlist from oldest to newest?
I'm sorry what was his old title?!? also love the vids
also good to note but the magog cartel does seem to be good at putting the serious glucks into the important jobs
Was not expecting to see Cad Bane mentioned lol
11:01 most favorite part of this character screen time.
I forgot in the old oddworld games the glukkons are basically using there hands as feet cause they have small bodies, idk why i remember that xD
I remember seeing my cousin playing this game and I never understood the story but until now since it is really dark
I played oddworld when I was a little kid on ps1 good memories amazing world with that being said im extremely surprised by all the view oddworld videos get i didnt know so many people loved it like i did
Think about the 3 glukons at the end morguer would have backed up molock assuming he actually saw Abe.
Yay more Oddworld Lore
nice video
Is their going to be a new game coming out
call me crazy but there is a chance Morguer could have survived and that is when/if he hid behind Aslik he played possum as it were I mean these were Sligs who wanted to get in and out after the job was done I doubt they'd bother to check if any of the three have a pulse or not.
