The Albino Slig of Sligstorm is a truly great idea in my opinion. I should've said this in the video but I think the iconic image of a Slig with pale skin is a massive part of why Sligstorm is so mythic. It's just such a striking image, giving us a variant, or a twist, of something Oddworld fans are so familiar with and has a simple, yet engaging concept.
Imagine if the next game will feature a albino slig as a second character who at first doesn't trust abe only to slowing help him progress as the game go on
I'm thinking the blasting would be done by Grub piling and lighting ordinary TNT or NITRO charges. Sure, I'm suggesting pulling a Crash Bandicoot on the Oddworld franchise but that's more viable than the first thing most people think of: stealing a set of Pants and a rifle, and just charging out guns blazing.
Honestly, I like the idea that if he was canonized that after Albino Slig makes his escape, he accidentally ends up with Abe, Alf and Toby, and they form a hazy friendship, due to obvious reasons on Alf’s side, Abe and Toby are a bit more lenient about him since he’s a kid despite their issues with Sligs in the past, I feel that he just wants a safe place to live and be accepted by his peers, which isn’t likely with any situations he ends up in, but who knows what would happen with him.
I like to imagine the Albino Slig would start out defenceless like Abe near the start of the game and as the story would go on he gets more confident and aggressive when it comes to fighting. But that's just my interpretation. It would be cool to play as an outcast Slig and see him grow as the story continues. (Especially since I love Sligs.)
My assumption though would be by the end unlike abe who tends to avoid direct confrontation would be blasting his way through his problems like a call of duty character. Somewhat slowly turning into a regular slig (albeit better at gunning) due to necessity
I think it’d be funny if the albino slig got around in a pair of normal slig pants, just a tiny little baby running around with robot legs that are way too big for him
The detail I love about sligs is how they're apparently naturally gentle creatures, before all the bio-modifications and indoctrination. That makes sense from an evolutionary standpoint, when you consider they're a highly social species that are physically weak without their modifications. Similarly to humans, they would rely heavily on cooperation, and therefore develop a very high capacity for empathy and friendship. Logically, there MUST exist escaped and non-modified sligs in the wilds of Oddworld. Ones with fully-developed brains and lifespans longer than 20 years. I'm certain Abe will encounter them at some point, because that's just too narratively interesting a concept to ignore.
The idea of an albino slig is already a pretty cool concept and he would be easily more distinguishable than just a common slig with a different mask. My best guess regarding him being a grubb is only an momentary thing at the beginning of the game until he grows up, without his tormentors’ knowledge. I also hypothesized that during the course of the game, this albino slig will undergo several changes from grubb to adult to Big Bro, growing more and more stronger and independent enough to ultimately blast himself free in a blaze of glory. The albino slig’s journey for freedom is a lesson of independence and discovery of self-worth.
Lorne's explanation to why sligstorm was scrapped is quite disappointing in my opinion. It was more of a businessman approach than that of a creative director. Besides, when he first created Oddworld it was never his intention to make Abe the main focus of the series.
A Slig-based game should be a tactical squad-based strategy game, like X-Com. I have posited in earlier and other Oddworld videos that such a game could be about Moluck trying to clear his name and having to manage and direct squads of Sligs to send on missions. The Albino Slig could be him having to settle for whatever he can get, and attempting to use them as an expendable resource, only for them to actually prove themselves exceedingly useful and working up the ranks.
I think them going on about "expressions" and the sligs not being able to emote the way they want is kind of...a weak excuse? Like fuck dude, just with the little bit we got in the good ending for Soulstorm I'd love a side game or just dlc where you get to play as Mullock's lieutenant running around the brewery bribing other sliig's and just being a general nuisance while "unknowingly" aiding Abe.
The publishers reasoning made some sense at the time but also Oddworld has always been a niche series. In recent times though with the prevlence of military dudebro shooters I'd love to see this getting another chance because it'd actually be the opposite of an unfavorable face on the box. This would actually stand out in the modern space and they even could play into the over-the-top shooters today and make a satire out of it like they do with the other games.
The Sligs weren't even the real villains they were vile, but it would have been nice if they were humanized. It was always apparent that they weren't all bad, they were jerks but not all bad
I wish Munch's Exoddus or Squeeks Oddysee won the pole 😭😭 I really want the old quintology to be completed but I have a feeling Soulstorm will be the last game we'll ever see on Oddworld 😫
I...happen to think Sliggies are endearing if not adorable in their own way. A lot of the oddworld creatures have their own weirdly endearing looks its why I love these games so much.
Hey, I just got into oddworld lore. I must say that you should be teaching classes of this at uni. There’s so much cool commentary you offer. The universe itself is also so deeply interesting and unique. Hope you read this. Keep it up!
I think the concept of a slig focused game has potential. It could be a shooter which suits the sligs just fine. Honestly Im craving another oddworld shooter as stranger's wrath is legitimately goated.
Having a Albino Slig would probably stylized as side scrolling action shooter where you would have to make it through the entire facility trying to escape and find piece of the world, probably the only slig in the world that would actually be on Abe's side if they ever met and probably made a good team, I feel like this albino slig would be so disregarded to the point he wouldn't be even given the cage cuffs for his lower torso since it would feel like a waste of material. To me it feels like this would been a fun idea for a exceptionally interesting perspective for the player where he plays as the empathetic antihero
Having the Albino use teccjological applications to escape would be cool. The Mudokons use psionics, the Sligs pretty much just use guns and technology so it'd be a good way to keep the main character helpless, but also add cool mechanics to the game.
I have a ideal backstory for the Albino Slig, he was an outcast since he was grub and the reason why he’s not dead is because of a scientist who was curious to see how long he would live, he is hearted but have to act cruel so the other Sligs wouldn’t beat him or worst, but one day he discovered that same scientist sold an idea to Glukkon about replacing Sligs with robots and making Sligs obsolete, so the albino slig have to save his own kind by it’s posting the truth and saving Slig Grubs
I love the albino slig idea.and always had ideas of my own if I was able yo make it. The idea I had for it is have it start off like ot was stated having the albino slig flee from the queen trying to eat it (tutorial). Some how during its escape it leaves its original path that other sligs take (either by choice or sabotage by other sligs so they can escape) and something happens and it's mask breaks. Instead of dying from the toxins of the factory the albino slig seems to be adapted to it and begins exploring. It sees how it's kind is treated as harshly as he is and decides to free or rebel against his queen. The game will give you a choice of gaining equipment like the other sligs or have him naturally grow and adapt to the environment around him (as it's hinted the gear in the sligs nit only helped but also oppressed them). This and the players decisions would impact the ending.
Level one escape mom / tutorial Level two continue escaping from your siblings Level three get captured Level four way later on now you are a luxury item due to being rare and you act like a personal bodyguard Level five and onward will show you growing a conscience Level 8 ish is you helping slaves escape and maybe joining up with Abe as a military general
I love your odd world lore vids got me into the series with how in-depth it all is but I could have sworn you done a vid on abes shrykull transformation
I feel like sligstorm could work if they just kept the scope small so if they make the game it wouldnt take too many resources, since the market for those types of games are way more open nowadays
I would have voted for SligStorm if not for so many other good choices like Squeek's Oddysee, Munch's Exoddus, Hand of Odd... And if it was a stealth/puzzle sidescroller in the same engine/gameplay as AO and AE, that would be a dream. I know it wouldn't make any business sense, but I'd be so on board with playing the rest of the Quintology in the same old engine and realistic pre-rendered graphics as those two games. The Quintology deserves to be told in a more cinematic medium, but I could play games like that forever
Gilray's account of Sligstorm sounds like they were just hoping for some easy DLC where they could just re-use a tonne of assets by setting it in Rupture Farms concurrent to New & Tasty.
Even if we were to get the grand return of Squeek, Klot, and Sligstorm, I'd be intrigued if how I perceived the concept of Sligstorm was brought into the light, being that Stormie (my nickname for the albino slig) was just trying to live their life, even as an outcast, before one day Stormie was accused for a crime he didn't commit and had to defend himself and escape from getting brutalized by other sligs. But it is a concept after all.
Maybe include the albino slig as a character and give him a section in a game or a bonus level, like a solo epilogue mission to save new slig grubs and confront their descruntled queen

I always like to assume that for Abe to win he would have to summon all the spirits of the past/late muddokens and creatures and just destroy the whole area like the biggest hurricane.
11:10 man that sounds like why George Lucas didn't make Jar Jar into a Sith lord in the prequels. These creators be forgetting they have these ideas for a reason! If it's to build up the world or the story, then let us decide if we didn't want it. These other ideas for games were so good. It's a shame we didn't get to grow up with them.
i love this idea so much just cause sligs are so cool, i hope they get a happy ending (also i hope they get their brains to develop depending on if the skull binding is cannon or not)
Why not make the next game where in different parts of the story you switch to playing different characters. Abe for his mudokin uprising -puzzle based- and the albino squig with squig uprisings -shooter based-
Could an Oddworld based spin-off game that is a 3rd person multiplayer shooter game work? Basically the story would be that the Vykkers and the Glukkons go to war against each other for some dumb corporate reason. Glukkon side uses Sligs and the Vykkers use Wolvarks. Think plants vs zombies: garden warfare.
Never thought people would be so vain about these characters, like what does that have to do with the story? We love the game cause of the story and it's creepy and weird.
I only hope for solid news about the continuation of the soul storm and Oddworld deserves more, a TV Series would be good perhaps...as for the Albino Slig, I speculate it more as a bionic bounty hunter hired by Mullok himself or by the Vykkers along other mean goons, and he would hunt down the terrorist subject Abe to get the approval of his nasty People!!!
I would love a doom clone of sligstorm i could just imagine a first person game where you blast through sligs while spitting out funny catch phrases like duke nukem
I think it's fitting that the abino slig was chased out because he was ugly, and they didn't make a game about him because he was ugly, despite how cool the idea is. I'd love to see a slig wearing a tattered cloak to hide his pale skin.
before getting too deep in the video, I am gonna assume it was gonna be a case where your a slig and the mutations weren't too apparent but it was apparent you were far more efficient and effective than 5 sligs, however maybe this albino slig became very short tempered and decides to go postal.
I’d actually would prefer if they made Sligstorm into a comic over a video game because I’m more interested in it’s story over it’s potential gameplay. Plus, imagine how cool an Oddworld comic illustrated by Skottie Young would be!
If sligstorm were to get made I would prefer it to start out as a similar 2.5 d game getting past her highness and gaining the iconic slig helmet and walking/flying harness but as soon as the iconic slig helmet was on it becomes a fps like a rogue robocop at rupture farms and at the halfway mark we make our way into a big-bro slig manufacturing plant and accidently turned into an armoured big-bro slig during the events of the soulstorm incident and join up with abe and co during the events of nolybab's siege and infiltration by abe only for the albino big-bro to die in a blaze of glory taking out as many gloktigi as possible.
The Albino Slig of Sligstorm is a truly great idea in my opinion. That would be cooler than the next Oddworld game. They showed the albino slig helping Abe and his quest to find his mom.
@@yewkyler7686and they kill him at the end of the game ;)

With how long sligs have existed it’s kind of funny that the closest thing to a protagonist or even ally slig is Molluck’s lackey in Soulstorm
And he almost immidietly stole every scene he was in
@@idiotgaming6376 your so right
Not to mention he has had pritty good guesses like pointing out how Abe and his friends have the Brew with them.
tbf he's very cool

Oddworld lore is exactly why i subscribed! Good to see the content coming back up.

A free bonus game with the standard game? Truly different times in gaming...
I think if anything, Sligstorm would be a great opportunity to make another FPS/TPS like Stranger's Wrath

I'm curious how this slig would develop because the premise sounds like it's not recieved any implants or any of that stuff.
I wonder if they’ll keep with the baby slig concepts and we see a natural slig without leg or skull bindings
Shorts got me back into Oddworld and your shorts got me to buy the games again 😂
Good nostalgic fun
You could give the Albino Slig, a "defective" Slog. You could get a lot of humanity between the two.
I think the concept of a slig focused game has potential. It could be a shooter which suits the sligs just fine. Honestly Im craving another oddworld shooter as stranger's wrath is legitimately goated.
I could see the slig larva concept art expressing there emotions like pyro from tf2

I would have assumed that the puzzles would have been about locating pants and having to abandon them (maybe to use vents to traverse the complex?).
I would think that they would actually have organic legs as sligs are supposed to have legs as the are artificially prevented from growing

I think it's fitting that the abino slig was chased out because he was ugly, and they didn't make a game about him because he was ugly, despite how cool the idea is. I'd love to see a slig wearing a tattered cloak to hide his pale skin.
I hope Lorne release the Quintology somehow as game, book or whatever media where we can see the entire story.
before getting too deep in the video, I am gonna assume it was gonna be a case where your a slig and the mutations weren't too apparent but it was apparent you were far more efficient and effective than 5 sligs, however maybe this albino slig became very short tempered and decides to go postal.
Is that where he started the sling uprising
Nice brother , nice video, if you like aliens species make video of them bro 😊🎉
The bad ending could have Abe blowing you up with his chanting.
I’d actually would prefer if they made Sligstorm into a comic over a video game because I’m more interested in it’s story over it’s potential gameplay. Plus, imagine how cool an Oddworld comic illustrated by Skottie Young would be!
Hey pupbenny how would you rank the oddworld games from worst to best?
I would absolutely love a modern shooter where I was a slig. I hope they make this game eventually
Do we have any news about future games?
1:16 why did I think that this was half-life 2?
I want a slig based FPS
I assume you would have started out crawling and eventually stolen Pants and a weapon on your way out.
Ah, so the game was never made because it was less marketable. Glukkons ruin everything.
Metal Gear Slig: Tactical Slig Survival
Metal Slig Rising: Revengeance
Why couldn't they make it a 3d version?
You can turn it into a fan game
I always thought sligs were mutated paramites
I know. Lorne Lanning. I know. I get it. 9:55 - 11:42
would be more interesting if it was able to have flesh legs unlike its brothers
