I lived with my Granny and Paw paw until I was 4-5, My memories of them are more clear than those of my Mother and Step Father. At 81 I feel fortunate to remember anything, but the food my Granny made lingers still. Even when I was grown she still made the food I loved when I visited. Loved those two people with all my heart. Thank you for the chance to gather memories. The cake looks wonderful.
You deserve extra credit for being willing to admit that there ARE foods that our grandparents didn't make as well as others. Many thanks for another great recipe. Better to perfume your home with wonderful baking smells than with scented candles.
I just" LOVE " the way you don't let anything go to waste!!!! I wasn't like that before watching you videos, but now I do scrape everything!!!! You guys are Awesome ❤
Yes! Warm gingerbread cake with a dallop of homemade whipped cream. One of my favorite memories from my childhood! Again, thank you for sharing this recipe!
My grandma (my mom's mother) use to make Gingerbread Cake, every Christmas. It was before Redi Whip, so she made her own Whipped Cream. I loved the smell, of her kitchen, when we would come in, on Christmas Eve. It smelled like Christmas. I always thought she made her cake, from scratch, but my mom let me know, that was not the case. I have never made a Gingerbread Cake, maybe this year, at age 69, I will, using your recipe. Thank you, for your Count Down to Christmas recipes. We've enjoyed watching.
I've baked many gingerbread cookies, houses, and even a very large gingerbread church for a fellowship event. The gingerbread church had pews, an altar, and even stained glass windows made of gum drops. I was a teenager when I made that church and never thought to take photos.
The aromas of Christmas are so wonderful. We never forget them. The cake looks so good. Thank you both for all the great recipes you’ve provided us with this season. God bless you
I have been making gingerbread men and other cut out shapes for about 45 years. My kids loved them, but the best thing about my recipe was that, my neighbour's kids came over one day and had some. The next day they wanted my recipe to make their own. Joshua, the youngest, is now making them every Christmas! He is a cook on a ship! ❤😊
Thank you SO much for all these recipes! I look forward to them every day! AND, thank you for your time and efforts to put all these videos together! Merry Christmas🎄🎄🎄
Hi Tom and Melissa. My Mom made moist and delicious Gingerbread too, but most of the time we had it with a thin layer of applesauce. She would spread it on each slice, not the whole cake. Most of the time she used home canned applesauce. Occasionally we would have it with whipped cream. Delicious!
Oh, the memories! My mama , Lord rest her soul, would make gingerbread and serve it with a lemon sauce. My husband of 52 years does not like spices , hence no gingerbread or spice cake, but the weird thing is he loves my ginger snap cookies… go figure! 😜🎄
My husband is picky about some things but I make some things that I like. If he doesn’t like it he doesn’t have to eat it. I give a lot of stuff to my friends at the SaveALot store. I do make things I don’t like for my hubby of 52 years. So we’re even except for the fact that I do all the cooking. Have a beautiful Christmas. ❤
German chocolate cake is my favorite also, but I'll also eat anything ginger! Ginger snap cookies, frosted gingerbread cookies (soft cookies), gingerbread cake...what drew me in to watch this video, was that ooey, gooey center in the picture! I will be trying this recipe and underbaking it too!😋 Thank you for another wonderful video and Merry Christmas to both of you!🎅🦌
My dad used to make gingerbread cake pretty often on Sunday when we went to church..I so remember the wonderful smell when we came home, and having it with homemade whipped cream and some coffee (or milk for us kids). A happy memory.
As I was reading through the comments, I was surprised by how many folks mentioned topping it with lemon sauce. I would have never put those flavors together, but they must be a big hit. My mother didn't do gingerbread cake, or many ginger items that I can remember, but I did have aunts that would, so that's how I got my ginger fix. Most of the time it was done like you did with just some powdered sugar. I would almost swear that I could smell this. Thanks again for the series. Only five more...
Gingerbread brings back such special childhood memories! We had a family owned bakery in our neighborhood and my mom would take us there about every week to get a gingerbread cookie as a special treat! Love the taste and smell of gingerbread! I may just have to bake your cake to relive those sweet memories!!! Thanks so much!!
Yum!! I always give the pan a couple firm taps on the counter before putting it in the oven to get the air bubbles out of cakes and brownies, this cake will definitely be one I try, I have been craving gingerbread this year, and have not had any yet! 😢😅❤
I missed this video yesterday. I was busy moving everything out of my business…I’m officially retired as of today. I’ve cleaned all day today so tomorrow would be a great day to bake and make candy. I think I’ll start in the morning with this cake. Sounds yummy. Thank you Tom and Melissa. I gave your video information to this beautiful lady I watch. Her channel is Mountain Patriot and I absolutely love her. Love and Merry Christmas 🎄My sister that passed away 2 years ago loved to make gingerbread cookies and decorated them so pretty. She always tripled the icing on mine and they were delicious. I miss her so much.
My mom wasn't much of a cake baker but always made pies. We ate a lot of ginger snaps too. I think a nice Christmas cream pie might be one with a ginger snap cookie crust.🎅
Thank you for sharing this. I made one of these for our church Christmas dinner, and I didn’t get to eat any of it. So, I plan to make one for Christmas at home. My other dessert for Christmas at home will be Cream Puffs with the original corn starch pudding in them. Your gingerbread cake looks delicious.
I've been dreaming of warm homemade gingerbread! Will get your ingredients this weekend & bake on Monday! I have decided on using my sister's banana bread recipe, neighbor's candy recipe, aunt's chicken casserole recipe for extended family Christmas Eve supper.
I definitely would like to make this. Was never a big fan so I never really made it. Your tried and true recipes are so good that I can’t imagine that this isn’t as good as you say. Thanks guys! Gotta go wrap now! ❤️
I don’t have a good gingerbread story. However, my mom, who was a great cook but not a baker, occasionally would buy a gingerbread cake mix and make a 9x9 pan of gingerbread cake. We loved it! It was one of the few times we’d have homemade dessert!
I love gingerbread! I was raised from the age of 18 months by my dad's parents. Granny made gingerbread cake all year long. She never called it called it gingerbread cake, though; it was just gingerbread, and our old 9" x 13" pan was always referred to as "the gingerbread pan". Granny's gingerbread was always moist, perfectly spiced and so delicious. I don't think she had an actual recipe, but the resulting cake was always consistent. I sure miss her wonderful cooking. I'll have to try this recipe.
We loved gingerbread w/ real whip cream. It came from Betty Crocker gingerbread mix. Always so good. My dad was a dairyman so we always had milk, cream and all other dairy products available. We never had artificial cream. So good!
I love gingerbread cookies, cake, and gingerbread anything. Just give it an inch of frosting. That would go great with the White Hot Chocolate. Santa Clause needs plenty of sugar for his long trip.
I’m from Tennessee but me and my Daughter live in Texas and my Sister sent us some Gingerbread muffins, delicious and I can see myself making this Gingerbread cake it looks Absolutely Delicious, Thank you for Sharing 🎁🎁🎄🌟
Gingerbread equals nostalgia for me, homemade gingerbread houses were a childhood favorite 😊 thanks for bringing back another great memory, you guys are just the best!
You're gonna have to make another cookbook and put the recipes in it that you are cooking every day now. Maybe a CHRISTmas cookbook. I looked in my cookbook that I got from y'all and it don't have the gingerbread cake in it. I love watching your show. And the recipes that I have cooked are all good. God bless y'all and have a Merry CHRISTmas
I live gingerbread. Memories. My brother helped mama make gingerbread men at Christmas time. Don't have it, unfortunately. Do you have one? Would love it. Good Bless. Live how you scrape your bowls. Mot wasteful. That's how we were brought up. Also love how sweet & cordial you two are & how funny when you don't lock your mixer & Melissa dies while filming. I chuckle everytime. I'm in my 70's & the memories you all talk about are so heartwarming. Merry Christmas from NE Tennessee.❤😂🎉😊
We don’t get much snow in winter here in southern Arkansas. When we did though, my Mom always made us gingerbread cake. Something comforting about warm gingerbread on a cold snowy day.❤
Love the taste of ginger. This video of gingerbread brought back sweet precious memories of Christmas’s past with my children making gingerbread men and girls. Thank you both. Merry Christmas 🎄
When I was growing up, neither my mom nor my grandmother ever made gingerbread anything. But as an adult, I’ve discovered I love the taste of ginger whether it’s in something sweet or something savory. I think I would love this cake.
I did not eat gingerbread as a child. While my mother was a good cook, she did not care for baking. My aunt specialized in pies and my grandmother made fruitcake. Our family did not make gingerbread. Where I first had gingerbread cake was when I was on vacation in Colonial Williamsburg in early December (decades ago). A street vendor sold warm gingerbread cake with whipped cream, and it was wonderful!!! I am so excited to make your recipe for the holidays.
It’s great to hear how were first introduced to gingerbread cake! We hope you enjoy making our recipe. It’s hard to live up to special memories like yours from Williamsburg but we hope ours is one you enjoy. Merry Christmas
Aw, I forgot my Mom sometimes made a gingerbread loaf cake at the holidays. It wasn't an annual thing but when she made it, it was a special treat. The frosting was a sweet butter cream with powdered sugar. I lost her recipes during a move years ago so all I have left is memories. I'm not a baker but yours looks good. Merry Christmas to you both.
My paternal grandmother made ginger cake with lemon sauce. It was so delicious. I don’t recall her calling it gingerbread cake….it was ginger cake. I can see it now in her old farmhouse kitchen, a nice big piece of cake with that yummy sauce ladled over the top. One thin they had plenty of on the farm was molasses. Lots of jogged, wonderful memories of days gone by. Not sure I will attempt this, but you never know it looks so good and I do feel ambitious. Merry Christmas
I made your apple cider muffins yesterday, oh how wonderful the house smelled. Husband said smells like a shop in Gatlinburg, what a compliment. Love your channel
My Mom always made a gingerbread cake with a powdered sugar dusting. We always got it hot out of the oven! That is one good memory I cherish. I'm going to make your cake & see how it compares! Thanks for the memories😂. 🌈💛🙏💛🌈
Mmmm gingerbread! I am a big ginger fan. My mom made gingerbread cake & I have a great recipe (from an old Christmas cookbook, I think) for fabulous gingerbread cookies. I also love ginger snaps - even the hot/spicy ones! In fact, my cat loved those spicy ginger snaps too!
Your story about your Grandmother's Gingerbread reminded me of my mom's efforts to make custard pie. Everytime she tried, she got Custard CAKE. She used her mother's recipe but for her it didn't turn out as pie. 😂 I love how food carries such wonderful memories with it. Thanks for sharing your stories as well as your recipes. ❤🎄
I went to a small Catholic school in Missouri in the '70s, we had really great cooks most of which were parents of students, one of them made the best gingerbread and served it with a dollop of fresh whipped cream, everyone loved it!
That sounds amazing! That fresh whipped cream must have been the perfect touch. It sounds like a very sweet memory. Thank you for being at the table with us and we wish you a merry Christmas.
Ty both love gingerbread needed a good recipe I will put the box mix back on shelf know this homemade will be so much better God Bless you and your's 🙏🙏❤️🙏 and a very Merry Christmas to you both 🎊🎊🎊🎊💝
This sound so yummy!! I think I'm going to made this and uses my mini bite size muffins. My mom never made anything in gingerbread she doesn't like the flavor.
Brings back old time Christmas! Thank you for sharing. Do you all remember the old applesauce stack cakes? Would love to have one! Mom would always make the gingerbread biscuit out of the leftover from making the stack cakes.
Oh my goodness… I was just thinking to make gingerbread cake and I see this…it is fate!!! I like the way you lay out all the ingredients before. Love your channel!
My mother made a wonderful gingerbread cake. It was a plain cake in a 9 x 13 cake pan. I was moist & delicious. I am going to look through my recipes to see if I can find my mother’s recipe. The last time I had it she made it. She has been gone since April 2001 . It is time to make some again for sure. It smells so good while baking ! Thank you 2 so much! God Bless you both! Merry Christmas to you & your family. 🙏❣️🎄☃️

That really struck me, very much pulled at my heart strings 😢
I lived with my Maw Maw and Paw Paw until I was 7 and I loved them so much. Oh how I miss them. I was the baby of the 4 of us grand children.
Thanks so much for recipe❤❤❤😊😊😊
Love the way you lay out and prep all ingredients
I know, right? I usually end up running around the kitchen looking for the ingredients and measuring tools as I need them. 🙂 (Merry Christmas)
I think that’s the part that makes any recipe easier
You deserve extra credit for being willing to admit that there ARE foods that our grandparents didn't make as well as others. Many thanks for another great recipe. Better to perfume your home with wonderful baking smells than with scented candles.
Amen!
My dad's favorite. He's been gone 4 decades ago but I still celebrate his birthday with his favorite.
That’s such a sweet tribute to your dad!

You and Martha Stewart clean the bowls. Love it!

That’s a great idea for a fellowship event. It sounds like a lot of work! I’m impressed! What a masterpiece!
Perfect. Cream Cheese would be good too. I love your childhood memories. I love pineapple upside down cake. I'm so glad l found your channel. ❤🎉

In the smallest acts of kindness we are sometimes blessed to learn that we made an impression. A ginger bread scented impression baked in with love.
How awesome is that!!! Is he in the service, a small private ship, a cruise ship? I just love your story. Thanks for sharing!

Another great recipe for me to make. I loved your soft ginger cookies from last year but a cake will be easier than scooping out cookies

Thanks for the recipe
Merry Christmas to you both 🎄❤
Gingerbread is one of my favorites- we used to have it quite often growing up but only in the fall and winter. Thanks for sharing this great recipe!
I am going to try this in the next few days with a powdered sugar icing. Yum.
Mmmmm love this for Christmas. This makes the house smell so nice. Merry Christmas.

I had never heard of a Gingerbread Cake but I decided to make it and I’m glad I did. It was delicious!! The smell was wonderful. Happy holidays!
Thank you for finding this! I very much miss making this, and there's nothing better than this spicy little cake and some whipped cream
