Welcome back to the garden for 2024 🎉 Looking forward to sharing lots more garden projects with you this year! Also don't let the jeans fool you. I filmed at 7pm on a cooler day. Currently 40 degrees Celsius during the day 🥵
Looking forward to your pond video. I put in a pond inspired by you and struggled with green algae in this hot weather. I want to make it more wildlife friendly this year.
You might have too many nutrients building up in the water, some pumped filtration and water plants might help. Other than that maybe some shade to protect it from the sun, but yeah the heat does make things difficult.
I love your new nursery! That's a great idea to get the pots all off the ground. Better for your back too. I'd never heard of Lemon Pinky, but now I think I need one lol. I would be interested in seeing you try a few different recipes with the Queensland Arrowroot (maybe including turning it into flour and using it that way?) - it grows really well here in Sydney too, but I'm not quite sure what to do with it. I'd also like to see what ideas you come up with to cover the soil under your citrus trees. I'm always interested in problem-solving type stories in the garden. I also can't wait to see what new garden beds you create, and to see where you end up planting all those new trees, but I don't want you to feel like you need to do a massive project for every video! The simple videos are good too - I love the garden update videos, and the harvest videos. :) You mentioned a while ago that you were considering creating a little container garden food forest thing, to give apartment-dwellers and people with limited space some ideas - I'm still keen on seeing that if you do decide to do it. Happy New Year, and I'm excited to see everything you grow this year!
Absolutely! Now that I have so much of them I can experiment more with recipes. I haven't used them too much as I was trying to repopulate and build up my patch. Plans are in place for the urban food forest im keeping an eye out for second hand supplies to collect now!
Hey Holly! It is so good to see you again!! I like the fact that you can walk barefoot throughout your garden. I find it very therapeutic when I do the same! Have you thought of planting a Curry Leaf tree? I have one and it provides so much flavor to my curry dishes. Many folk I have cooked for find the inclusion of just a few leaves so authentic. They will tolerate shade and will be more subtle than when planted in full sun. Hope to see you do more in the area of ponds. I have a bird bath but would love a pond or a water feature because these could be relaxing as well. Cheers!
Love your garden tours and seeing how much it's grown. Great idea with your little nursery too. I'm with you loving all the rare tropical fruits! Still got a few on my list yet to get like the Pinky Lemon. Can't wait to see how your's does to get a few tips. With all the rain we've been getting in Bris, we've had a few noisy green tree frogs around our house. Love having them around. Maybe a small pond or water feature is on my project list this year inspired by you!
In November i moved from Perth to Hobart and I've already been able to get some vegetables growing at my new rental. I'm having much more success then i ever did in perth with the insane heat. But we do have a shorter summer growing season and will get frost! So i have a lot to learn.
Growing edibles is always a challenge there's always something new to overcome haha but that keeps it interesting and forces you to learn so I love it 🌿 hope you're settling in well and enjoying some more manageable temperatures 😅
Wow! I love your nursery! I'm excited to see the pond video! Also I have pineapple guava but never sets fruit, last year it has lots of flowers but no fruit even 1 nothing!
I'm looking forward to seeing all of the projects you mentioned. I also really enjoyed your previous 'garden to plate' videos, so more of those would be welcomed too. Love the frogs!
I always forget that you guys have summer when we have winter here in the states. It's kind of nice though, because I can always enjoy the sunny warmth and a full garden when everything is cold and dead here lol stay cool!!! 40 Celsius is HOT
I’m glad I’m not the only one bare feet in the garden lol Love your garden planning How do you know when sweet potatoes are ready? Got heaps in the garden I’m also a fejoa lover , best fruit ever 😊
Thank you! They start to die off when the cold weather hits so usually start of winter or harvest before the rain sets in otherwise they can rott (not an issue here in dry perth haha)
Great video! Like the new nursery. Amazing variety of fruit trees. You persuaded me to give New Zealand spinach a go...now it has taken over my back yard. It is prolific. So, now I am thinking I will give Queensland Arrowroot a go too! Thanks Holly.
I was just thinking it has beena long time you posted a video, and here you are with a new one! The arrowroot looks amazing, l wonder if would grow in Adelaide...
Hope you had a nice Christmas and new years 😄 Your garden's looking healthy! Been hot, humid and a fair few storms here in se qld. Lovin the barefoot chill vibe 👌 😎
Off topic comment (if this isn't offensive), some of the more temperamental plants... why not with plants with similar "finicky" growing conditions "clump" them together, such as using fans to increase air flow, increase humility, increase "chill temperatures" (possibly not cost effective in annually increasing average temperatures). Even growing organically/minimal maintained, there are "interventions" with minimal footprint that significantly aid resilience of a garden /food forrest and productive output
Hey Holly! that lil grapevine you showed, is that from the cutting I traded you for a white mulberry? I hope it took off for you! Our white mulberry is going great guns!
Thank you for sharing your garden and inspiration to get out in my garden. I have had no luck with my Guva strawberry. It starts to fruit, and then they drop off. Any suggestions on what i can do to increase the fruit 🤔
Hello Holly, from sunny Ngunguru, I'm a nurse at the Medical centre where your dear Mum works. I'm growing lots of bananas and pineapples and wonder if you have those?
Hi Holly, love your garden! Question - I want to plant sweet potato under my feijoas too, but do you have a hard time finding the feijoas when they fall? Thanks : )
So exciting to see you back again! I got some mature trees for my birthday last year and I was eager for my first feijoas. I had lots of flowers but no fruit so far :( Do they need anything special to set fruit?
@@SustainableHolly Yes that would make sense. Thank you. I'll try to be more patient then lol. Very excited to see what your arbour looks like once the grape vines get going x
Hey Holly, did you grow your Mandarin from seed?. I've got one growing from seed at the moment and about half a dozen Avocados. I can only use one so I'm trying to find homes for the others. I also bought a non grafted passion fruit to replace my grafted one.
No my Mandarin is a Grafted one. Yay I'm so happy to hear about the passionfruit haha. I'm also growing a bunch of Avocados from the compost. I'm going to use them to practise grafting on
Hi Holly. Can I ask why so many Arrowroot ? Do you use it in the kitchen, is it a nitrogen supplier, break up the soil, shade thingy ? I am about to start a similar garden bed in my front yard in Brisbane. Thanks
One. Citrus, really hate root competition. I would advise not to stuff plants, in between citrus trees. Also, you have put, a hell of a lot of HUGE trees really close together in one garden. That is crazy.. Avocados grow pretty big, and ice cream bean trees are huge.....

Loving the reminder/inspo/permission to plant things with the intention of mulch rather than eating it all
The frogs look so cool in your pond
They get greener in colour after sunbathing! ☀️
Frogs 🐸 are the best pest control ever,we’ve got them everywhere
I can't stop watching them haha 😆
Looking forward to your pond video. I put in a pond inspired by you and struggled with green algae in this hot weather. I want to make it more wildlife friendly this year.
It's been constantly changing since I put it in! Actually, it's so interesting. I will definitely share everything!

Queensland arrowroot makes amazing hash browns
Will have to try that! I have made chips and they were great
Love your frogs!
Definitely share that special apple with us when you harvest and taste it!
Same! I'm so nervous on when it's ripe! Can't wait to cut it Open will definitely share!

Thanks Holly awesome video, just what i needed for motivation. Good to see u talking about arrowroot. Have been thinking of thus for mulch purposes🌸🐸🌼
Thank you! I thought it would do well but has definitely exceeded my expectations 🌿
Yes..I am motivated 3minutes in!!❤I cant comment for some reason.Only can comment on a reply..
Great video thank you 🙏
Thank you 🌱
It takes a Kiwi to know and love a Feijoa... I seldom get to enjoy this delicacy
Wow! I love your nursery! I'm excited to see the pond video! Also I have pineapple guava but never sets fruit, last year it has lots of flowers but no fruit even 1 nothing!
Awesome stuff! It always freaks me out how big zucchinis get.
Great garden tour. I’m planning mine in next few weeks. Currently it is 20 degrees Fahrenheit here in Indiana. Cool T-Shirt. Jon
Thanks, Jon, slightly different temps here 🥵
I'm looking forward to seeing all of the projects you mentioned. I also really enjoyed your previous 'garden to plate' videos, so more of those would be welcomed too. Love the frogs!
Hi ya thank you sharing that tour was amazing , I don’t know how you manage.Take care and stay safe from a hot humid QLD ♻️🪱🌺🥰🥵⛈️
Hi Barry! I don't know how you manage with humidity 😅 stay cool 😎
Your citrus hedge is looking great! I love your use of QLD arrowroot
Thank you! Still a work in progress but we will get there 🌳🌿🌳🌿
I always forget that you guys have summer when we have winter here in the states. It's kind of nice though, because I can always enjoy the sunny warmth and a full garden when everything is cold and dead here lol stay cool!!! 40 Celsius is HOT
Sooo hot! At least, it's a free detox!!! 🥵🤣
I’m glad I’m not the only one bare feet in the garden lol
Love your garden planning

Love your motorcycle frogs. Garden looks great. So many fruit trees, amazing collection.
Thanks for visiting! I'm quite obsessed with them haha...that may change after they start their engines 🤣

Haha yeah it's a grower! Hack it back for compost if it's too much 🌿🌿
Great to see a new video! Doesn't pigeon pea get really big?
They won't get a chance as are in my mulch line so will be getting cut back regularly to mulch for the garden 😁
@@SustainableHolly great idea!
I was just thinking it has beena long time you posted a video, and here you are with a new one! The arrowroot looks amazing, l wonder if would grow in Adelaide...
I really struggled to keep up last year but after some re shuffling I have more time to dedicate to youtube this year 😄
Hope you had a nice Christmas and new years 😄 Your garden's looking healthy! Been hot, humid and a fair few storms here in se qld. Lovin the barefoot chill vibe 👌 😎
Thank you and same to you! It's been hot and windy here!

Yay how exciting! Not really but they may just want to get settled first before they start to hold fruit. Fruit trees are pretty intuitive 🌳
@@SustainableHolly Yes that would make sense. Thank you. I'll try to be more patient then lol. Very excited to see what your arbour looks like once the grape vines get going x
Does the hot supper sun make the leaves go fi gal or white patches?
crepe myrtle looks pretty across the road or is it bouganvillia?
It's a bougainvillea. Does make a good pop of colour against all the green haha

Thai egg tomato? How is the flavor on that?
Mild tomato and ripen pink not red and shaped like an egg not taste haha
What is it with "Qld Arrowroot"?
Hi Holly.
Can I ask why so many Arrowroot ? Do you use it in the kitchen, is it a nitrogen supplier, break up the soil, shade thingy ?
I am about to start a similar garden bed in my front yard in Brisbane.
Thanks
Never mind, I checked out the original video and now I know the secret !!
❤❤❤🎉
