Holly.. I've only just discovered your channel. You are an inspiration. I moved back to Perth a year ago and am working on establishing a garden in the Great Sandy Desert of Morley. It's very different from the clay soils I had by the Murray River south of Pinjarra. Enjoying seeing how you are transforming the Bassendean sands to become productive soil.
I love seeing all the new unusual fruit trees!! Your Chanel is becoming more and more interesting as the years go on! Looking forward to future videos 😊
Thank you, hopefully more unusual fruit harvesting to come 🤣😅
Greatful to see another southern hemisphere & avid aussie gardener on you tube.i love the variety you have growing.❤
💚🌿
Hey Holly! Thank you so much for the generosity of your time and the pride you have in your garden. Someone once told me that Mother Nature always likes to be fully dressed and your approach to covering bare ground is in recognition of her discretion. Cheers!
Thanks Craig! 🌿🌱
Loving the frog story, a true ecosystem in that Perth harsh environment...Holly you are awesome!
Cool 😎 I love the rarer fruiting plants. I’m an obsessed collector too.
Yay! I love it so much 👌 hopefully one day I will be able to plant them all in the ground 🌿🌱
There is a few of us around!
🤗
Fantastic, insightful and entertaining… learning so much on these walk around vids thanks
Thank you 😊
oooohhh jackfruit & custard apple is Exciting!!! you have a beautiful collection ❤
banana passionfruit is my absolute favourite! great video.thanks4 the inspiration! my garden desperately needs love & attention
Love seeing your gardens evolve - so different to a couple (or is it a few?) years ago when you had veggies in the moveable pallet boxes that are now your nursery.
Thanks so much for sharing- you've given me some inspiration.
Also, I've had trouble keeping pineapple sage as a perennial. It wants to stay annual. Picked up another last weekend at the big green shed at Harrisdale
I love your gardening style for the conditions
💚🌿🌱🐞
The garden is looking so healthy! Love it! 😍🙌💚
Thank you 😊 🌱
yes! my lime tree has been very slow..I luv making a tea out of the leaves though💚I luv luv your front garden!!
i did this & my neighbours dobbed me into council, because its not a perfectly manicured lawn like theirs is...He has poisoned some of my trees..I feel like giving up, until I see your video..thankyou4 continuing to inspire me..😊
The garden is looking fab. Loving the idea of the cocktail tree! Sadly we are coming to the end of the growing season here in the UK but looking forward to keeping up to date with how your growing season progresses. Keep up the great work!
Thank you 😊 🌿🌱🦎
Looking great... Jujubes, persimmons and acerola thrive in Perth - add them to your collection too!
The front garden has come a long way!!
Sometimes, it feels slow, but getting there!
Hi from sunny Nelson. Blimey you are going to have heaps of fruit! All winter I look forward to Jam and preserves videos🤣🤣... great collection.
Nelson is one of my favs 😍 going for variety over quantity, so hopefully, it's a good mix of everything 🤣 but the two big feijoas already produce a lot! And I added two more.
I was just considering adding a Paxton Prolific atemoya tree (we call them atemoyas here in the US instead of custard apple). I can't wait to here updates as yours grows!!!
It has a flower! Not sure if it will turn into anything as it's still quite young
@@SustainableHollythat’s still exciting!!!
Very nice and informative. Thank you 🙏
Thank you 😊
@@SustainableHolly welcome. Thank you
Wow Wonderful Garden ~
Thank you for good sharing LIKE 244
My friend, have a good relationship 😊
Hi ya Holly , so many different 🌱 plants are just amazing. Take care and stay safe cheers from Qld.🌱🌴🥦🥬🌹🌼❤
Looks great, you did an amazing job ❤
Thank you!! 😊
Love the garden
My lime tree is also my slowest growing citrus tree. I've had it for 7 years and my lemon trees are 3 times as big as it.
They are more of a rainforest tree than most citrus so I think my like would benefit from a little less hot sun 🙃
Hey Holly. Good to see you! I'm glad you mentioned avo flowers. I must check mine under there frost cloth. Have you heard avos drop there own flowers if too many so guess that means we don't need sad job of plucking flowers off younger trees. I love the blackboy sanguine peach. Especially since I found out it's the healthiest peach. Heritage Food crops nz tested lots of fruit for nutrients. Very interesting website. Free real tomato and bean seeds. Enjoy spring! Everything is looking amazing🌸🌞
Oh really so interesting 🤔 I have a thing for red fruits! I really wish i didn't have to wait another year to see if I get any fruits. Gardening sure does build on your patience doesn't it 🌿
Amazing collection 👀!
Fruit tree hoarder 🙈🤷♀️🙃
@@SustainableHolly I am guilty of this as well 🤣
Watching from Melbourne
Garden to plate. In Sweden we say Från jord till bord. It rhymes and it means From soil to table. 😊
Yay love it 💚🤗
I bought some pineapple sage in Bunnings about 3 days ago here in South Australia
I've been keeping an eye out at a few places. Surely they will be popping up soon 💚
@@SustainableHollyI know I’ve seen it spoken about in different channels so when I saw it I grabbed it. I also bought a dwarf mulberry and a pepino
Wow it must be amazing to garden there... we have cold wet and borring fruit
We are very lucky.. if we can get them through the first few summers ☀️ 🫠
You know, a list of nurseries you get the trees & hard to find veg from would help❤❤
Wish I could have trees of 🥑 and 🥭 out in the garden. Impossible in cold climate.
This is a very unique climate that's for sure 💚
I have so much pineapple sage that comes back each year in Illawarra NSW
I'm loving how much you're fitting in the front yard. Very inspiring. Did you find that avocado variety locally?
Thank you! The linda avocado? Yep, it popped up on marketplace and I was literally in my suburb!
@@SustainableHolly oh so lucky! Good to know they're around Perth though so I'll have to keep an eye out. Thanks!
They use to be heaps apparently but haven't been very common for the last few years l. Not really rare just uncommon haha
@@SustainableHolly That gives me hope then 😂 I've never heard of that variety before but the fruits look awesome so I'll have to hunt one down
pigeon pea is used alot in Jamaican dishes if your looking for something to do with them
I definitely need to try experiment with them!
Wow, so many different fruit varieties. Just wondering where you are going to plant them all? Or are you leaving them in pots?
I think for now I will leave them in pots. The garden is pretty full. Hopefully one day I might have a bit more land to play with.
Hey Holly, I've watched so many of your videos but I still don't know how to set up our garden in our newly built house next year. I'm not sure if you have a video about it? Handling builder sand, what soild to top, retic, shade, what to plant under different sun directions. Please help. Maybe it helps if you categorise your video ynder different playlists? Thank you so much for creating this channel❤❤❤ and just an idea for future content, I need a short video to share and encourage people to plant trees in my community group, there are at least 3 houses replacing their yard with fake turf this month, so sad
Thanks so much for the feedback. I am in the process of doing a re- organise so this is very good timing! Some great ideas 💚🌱🌿
Hi! Nice vids. Did you build your vege patch/pergolas or did you buy them from someone? If you bought them pre-made, can you let me know where they are from? Thanks!
Hubby and I are going to do a grafting workshop this week. Where do you find all your scions for grafting please?
Hey Holly. Good to see your garden! Do you have any issues with fruit fly up there in Perth?
Any chance I could grab a few cuttings from that Linda avo at some time when you get around to pruning it? I have started grafting some avocados and would like another B-type in my garden.
Hi Holly love ❤ your name my granddaughters name. Have you ever tried growing dragon fruit it’s a tropical fruit. I have several they are neat to grow. Love your garden especially your orchid
I’m sorry I watched this one over and realized you are growing dragon fruit. 😂 oh my 🤦♀️
Hey how are you? I’m also based in Perth and am working on a food forest. Just wondering where you get your rarer fruit trees from? I mostly look on Facebook pages or marketplace for trees.
I regularly visit most nursery's in perth they have changing stock constantly! Plus, marketplace and connecting with other local fruit tree obsessed growers
Hey, Holly. How wide is your back garden bed?
I would love2 be your neighbour..
❤we could both learn a lot..my dog helps herself to my mulberry bush.😀....and sadly she eats all of my fig leaves..
Any success with raspberries in Perth (530 chill hours)? As an European, I was surprised to find them at Bunnings as they are Alpine plants and need cold to put flowers…
Yep mine are fruiting now! They do need shade from hot sun in summer. I believe our varieties are lower chill. but Perth in general can get 400-500.
Holly how do you stop the fruit flies
I individually bag with small harvests but may even fully net some trees this year. Never leave rotting fruit on the ground and encourage lots of wildlife 🐞🦎🐦🐸
@SustainableHolly I have netted and bagged mine but the rats eat through them the more fruit I have the more the rats come to eat them it's a battle between fruit flies and rats
Hi holly, who do you get your soil from, and what is it called, veggie mix I get is horrible
I really don't know! I've not found one I love yet to share but I'm trying a new one this time so 🤞 I really wish I could make enough of my own!
Where do you get your fruit trees from please
Not one place I literally go to every fruit tree seller in Perth haha plus marketplace
This is something I have experienced myself and also heard that same is scientifically proved
Whenever you're out in your Garden, ALWAYS be totally barefoot because our soles love and deserve that freedom. They love to feel various textures of soil between their toes. Apart from n it's very healthy to be barefoot outside.
Take for example two plants, one grown inside a pot and tge other grown in Nature. However much you water and use fertilizer, it never looks as healthy as the latter. This is simply because the roots have a limited space to stread and the Nurishment too is the same.
The soles of our feet are like the roots of a tree. When you're not barefoot that natural process is obstructed. Our soles are designs to absorb things which are essential to lead a healthy lifestyle. However, use of footwear deprives this process. Apaurt from that there are a large number of Sensors / Nerve endings on the soles of our feet, which connects from head to toe. When we walk on Sand, Gravel and Tiny Stones /Pebbles,our entire body gets stimulated through these sensors. Once again Footwear deprives this natural process.
So, go barefoot always for good health and happy feet and soles.
Do you shade cloth the front arbor ready for our really hot summer ?
I use to have temporary shade up and then I planted grapes but they have been slow to climb. So I'm still hoping to get living shade over it.
@SustainableHolly good luck because the heat is coming. Mines brand new over 3 wicking beds so I'll shade cloth & hope next year for natural cover🍇. Keep up the good work 👍🏻
Will see how I go if not I still have the left over cloth in the shed 😅🌿
Just curious - have you had any heat issues due to raised beds being black?
I mean definitely would be cooler to pick another colour haha. But i still grow fine. I crowd my beds so there's no soil exposed and the hot afternoon sun skips over them. Very much hoping to have living summer shade growing over the arbour this year! 🌿
@@SustainableHolly I'm resorting to painting my black pots this year.
What do you use to firtilize with
I grow plants for mulch to use and keep building layers of compost. I don't use traditional fertilisers. Also have worm farms 🪱
