TY FOR THE VIDEO! Im a new airbrush artist who been airbushing little over a yr now. love the work u do! plus it give me ideas to work with and other thing i can airbrush on! will be checking u out more as your videos come out!
Well done pal. There was no need for one of the comments below. Keep it up and re-post new skills/techniques in a few month. I met a shed load of resistance when I took up tattooing, mainly folk who think talent is a secret. You spent many hours on this and created exactly what you wanted to create. I have no idea wether the 'airbrush' world would consider me a professional but I have a list of people who've paid me £100+ an hour for my work. Keep it up pal.
You are a true artist. Don't let the na-Sayers get you down, the comment about no depth ! She needs glasses. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and tricks, I enjoyed the video very much.
a lot of people will use rubberized striping tape to get a good crease-free bond with the paint underneath, then lay the mask over that and cut into the rubber, as it's thicker it gives a good buffer between the mask and the paint. Problem that I've had is that it isn't conducive to drawing on the mask, which is half the benefit of using the masking paper. As far as clear coating, if you don't clear coat properly it'll kind of delaminate, and if you don't get the corners that'll always be a problem, paint scuffing pads work good to get them in general, but there are scuffing compounds as well. I like the layout and techniques here Scott! It took skipping to the end to see what you were going for but I like that torn metal look!
Francis Hernandez, the large paper tape he is using is called "transfer paper" any vinyl decal supply company carries it or u can order it off TCP global...it comes in a variety of sizes, depending on how large the surface ur painting will allow u to judge what size you need. I use 6inch and 12 in...it's easiest to handle in those sizes and covers most areas well, I own a custom shop doing custom bikes and autos and it works fine for me....hope that helps.
Sorry for not following my own posting here and getting to questions. I am so NOT a computer person and rarely get on here. Thanks for all the compliments and the suggestions. I am not a pro, thats for sure, still learning everyday. The paper that I used to mask with is a low tac "masking" paper i get from signwarehouse.
Can any of the overcritical armchair "experts" anonymously attacking this guy actually post better content? Your subjective feelings regarding quality of outcome are worthless without citing his specific errors in technique and execution. I appreciate that he took the time to post.
Mcnag, as long as you have a good blade it don't take much pressure at all to cut through the paper, it is not real think and cuts nicely...I use exactos, and "swivel" blades....swivel will allow to make any cut at any angle as if you we're drawing with a pen...you can find them at any "hobbie lobby" store (check online for 40% off coupons for those stores on their website) Hope that helps, best thing to do is make a few practice cuts over similar surfaces to see hard to press before digging
wow what a great concept but a little rough imo. when doing the shadows you shouldnt spray towards the template as it causes the template to lift...as you experienced and the shadow should fade out the further u get from the edge of the template creating extra depth Awesome ideas though keep it up
Any chance of doing a video on masking out something like a windscreen. How you keep it even as simetrical on a canopy that has no molding lines to follow.
there lots of ways to make sure you don't cut the under material a swivel knife isn't the easiest quite its fiddly its easier with exacto if you know how.
Peter Hale you obviously don't know his work very well but that's ok how about you show us your work so you can prove that you know what you're talking about or are better then the people posting video's here because until then you are like a fart in a windstorm.
What ??..Drew Blair is world famous for his work !...never heard of this guy, and I do know what I'm talking about, did it for a living in Scotland for years.
To be fair it really doesn't have any roll or depth. No offense but perhaps you should only make tutorials on the techniques you can successfully pull off. Clearly there are some things you do well, this is NOT one of them. Very poor result.
Dude something is wrong with your video now. It keeps stopping at the point after you cut off the over lay of the second sheet of mastic just right when your talking about how to draw the peeling back of the metal. And then Ive tried to reload the page several times and the video keeps stopping in the same place. I even waited over an hr for the video to finish buffering and it never does. You may need to reload the video or something. There is definitely a technical problem.
I wasted 1.hour of my life , to see u NOT use advanced tech. Why r u at that end of the camera ?! 1/2 of UR info was novice that's 20 min of masking and prep I think u might want to wAtch some vids UR self !! And that zebra metal rip is going to Piss off the owner if he knows a damn thing I'm not hating just don't enjoy watching every Joe Blow that don't know enough to match the Title of the video he post .I give u a C+ for Big Balls !!oh by the way Its Transfer Tape, resist or trace-n-mask.!.

Great video Scott, what paint are you using and what thinner? Looks like you're getting some really good results! Thumbs up from me.

Großartig! Schöne Anleitung, weiter so! Ich will mehr sehen!
thank you, I do have a swivel, and an exacto knife, but i'm always worried you leave a pretty narly scratch on a painted surface.
Any chance of doing a video on masking out something like a windscreen. How you keep it even as simetrical on a canopy that has no molding lines to follow.

Some good tips here. Suggestion ... maybe you should go ahead and not say "go ahead" so much. Lol
