- This is a technique that is in my Ghost Flame Video showing you how to do Realistic Ghost Flames.
If you are interested in the FULL LENGTH video and other full length videos they can be found on my paid subscription channel at: / fullblownkustoms and also on my website www.fullblownku... in DVD and Digital Download format! Thank you for your support!
Hey Ed thanks for this video!!! I just did a Harley Road King using this technique - My customer took it to the "Blessings of The Bikes" and everyone flipped out about it and commented about how great it looked. Since doing it I've picked up three other Harley's to paint and a mud truck.
I still need a bit of help with my flames so I got your all fired up dvd and have watched over and over - my flames have come a long way!
Thanks again - as always your videos are tremendously helpful!!!!!
Dont let the jerks in the world get you down Ed,your work and name are famous in the airbrush world and these video's help out a lot of people. Thanks is all i have to say.
hey ed im a 16 year old boy and im just getting into airbrushing, I had my first go at the flames and it turned out alright, thank you so much for having your videos up for free ive learned alot and it doesnt break my bank, im just about to get my second go at it right now thanks again!!!
U should be 25 now..nhow good are u now
I'm just getting started in airbrushing. Hell, my starter kit hasn't even arrived yet! BUT, as I troll for beginner lessons I find that I like your teaching style. Just enough commentary to get the points across and plenty of action to demonstrate what you're talking about. You'll definitely be on my regular list for online instruction!
Lawson Poling. Have an update on how things are going with the air brushing? I tried it as a kid with a walmart quality airbrush. Think it was a testors contraption sold in the model and model paint section. Was using it for models but gave it up because the brush was designed to hook to a can of air and not a compressor. Tried it again in my 20's and started doing flames. Flames are the easiest thing in the world as there is no absolute pattern or even a spectrum that has to be followed like skulls for instance. As a newb the hardest thing is getting use to the spray pattern and how much air/paint to let through. Once you get the practice in to control that flames are easy peazy.
Amazing, I've been doing graffiti and normal drawings on paper all my life, and because of you now I came to airbrush world...I've seen all your videos helped me a loot...huge THANKS "RESPECT"
Hi Ed, I love all your work and you are easily one of the top airbrush artists living today.
Great work, thanks for sharing.
sweet, i think your website is a breakthrough as far as this stuff goes, I would rather pay the yearly then figure out which videos i can afford to buy and in which order, you are an amazing person, with amazing talent. thank you for your dedication!
I don't understand people... I bet none of them can even do a simple flame job never mind a Ghost flame job I got hooked on to this channel because of all the neat Airbrush and other works of art I saw! plus there are tutorials. TUTORIALS! Yet nobody appreciates it... that's sad... I mean I'm so impressed that I I'm itching to try... out airbrushing... You guys seriously need to show more appreciation. You don't like it that's cool but please don't insult the man. his got kick ass skills!
Stumbled across this by accident, man your work is fantastic. Magic
Yes and also you can use the same color the car is and tint it either lighter or darker and come up with a cool effect.
Thanks! im 13 years old, me and my dad are restoring a 1970 gmc truck, i want to learn how to do ghost flames and skulls, looks like i found the guy to help!
Very cool method for making flames blend into the color of a paint job. I have been thinking about airbrushing one of my rides for some time, but have yet to convince myself what to put on it. Your video has provided me with some very useful ideas. Thanks
Turned out real pretty. I enjoyed watching you paint the flames.
Will do and thanks for watching I am glad that you have gotten some thing out of my videos.
Hmmmm...getting all sorts of ideas for a ghost mural on my truck . She is old, a bit beat up and ...black . I already have a mountain scene on the tailgate so , now I need to do the sides and this video has given me what I need . Thanks Ed ! I will send along a picture or three when I get it done =)
Thanks Ed, can't enough of your youtube lessons. I often wonder sometimes, how much of airbrushing is using one's brain rather than actual painting
Yea ive learned quite a bit from watch your videos and everytime youtube tells me theres a new video it gets me in the mood to paint
finally a video that doesn't just fast forward through it all, thank you!
Your welcome
One is a siphon fed air brush and the other is a gravity fed air brush. One is not better than the other it is just personal preference on which one you like better to use.
I watched you over and over again,I'm still practicing, it's a real art thanks for taking the time to make this, and that's the shit, not that shit freaking no class bums
@cpaden7 It is a exhaust chamber with a friction fan pulling the fumes through the tube. I have reduced paints in containers for months on end.
I want to paint my own scooter, been hobby painting for years, i believe i can do it, after watching the videos, but i'm going to order the cd, i'll sit and watch it for hours i'm sure!!
Thanks Brother!
really good job. the only problem i can see with it is material buildup. can u do a thickness test
No problem glad that you enjoyed it.
you are the master Ed.....I'm always amazed at how you do your work....Thanks a million for sharing....Darren Shumbo, Connecticut
Like I say every one has a opinion and I am fine with it. They are the ones that don't like my work so that is why there are thousands of other videos out there to watch.
Hello! Watching your videos has inspired me to get into detail airbrushing. You give great advice, especially for newcomers, and I want to say thank you for that. Right now I own a badger universal 360 that I use for models, and I'm wondering if you've heard anything about how effective they are. I haven't found any non-model reviews and before I spray auto paint through it I want to make sure it won't destroy the airbrush. Thanks again for your videos!
Thanks Edd, your videos and wisdom have been a great help to many. Good fortune to you.
all your artwork is incredible everyone of you.
Thank you
I love your videos, and how you take the time to explain what you're doing and why. I picked up a couple of cheap air brushes and plan on attempting some ghost flames , true flames and Hot Rod Style Flames and some water bubbles and such in the spring because of these videos. Much thanks and keep up the good work...
Any time. You need to check out the rest of the video that I have for sale. It is full of cool techniques.
Where I can buy plastic base plates to hold the paint as you used, thanks greetings from Peru
Sorry I only use Iwata air brushes.I really don't know any thing good or bad about the Badger.I have heard that they are a good brush though.
It's alright Mr. Ed, none of these people understand the subtle beauty in the ghost flame. Everything has to be bright for their small brains to understand it. I would definitely bring my Soul to your shop for some custom decals.
alot of people have been asking me about air brush work, prob cause of some car and bike projects i have or had, im glad you have a website now that I can join that allows me access to tons of your tutorials, for one low price, instead of having to buy different dvds... ill be joining Friday, ive learned from this video, i cant wait to learn more and practice better technique. do you have one airbrush over the others that you use the most? if so, which one? or combo of them?
Excellent, excellent work, my friend. I absolutely love it. It's exactly the realistic, whispy style of ghost flame look that I've been looking for to put on my Fender Strat guitar. I'm going to check out your web site to see how I can get that same look. thanks for sharing!
I really don't give a exact mixing ratio because it will vary for every one doing it because of different temperatures. But lets say at 70 degrees if the correct mixing ratio was 2 parts paint to one part reducer I would over reduce it to 2 parts paint to 4 parts reducer.
can you add the full video to the website please, working on making a sample board out of metal, then i wanna make a larger picture
No I just feather the trigger. Over reduce means to add more reducer to the original mixture.
Ed, you're the best! A great teacher and has a positive energy. Thanks for your tutorials! Ed, a question, what is the ideal pressure for the airbrush? I'm having problems with clogging, do not know if it's pressure or ink...
Awesome work Ed. What an easy way to do ghost flames
Great flames but have you ever dome smoke?
Awesome video Ed. Love the technique. You truly rock the paint
When you put the airbrush up close and the paint barely comes out 1:11 did you turn the air pressure down, and also another question when you say you over reduce what does that mean?
That is so cool excuse me I have a question where can I buy a paint gun like that I also draw but I don't know which paint gun is good
The murasl were put on hold until the Spring . I can show you the regular scene I did on the tailgate if you like . I forgot to mention this is my daily driver and it was tough to find some time .
disculpa espero me puedas ayudar.como consigo esa plantilla?yo me hice varias pero como esa no tengo.gracias por la ayuda
This guy is an amazing artist...
You can use either but I would do a text panel first just to see which way you like it first.
Love your flames and your attention to details....what type of airbrush are you using and paints, lacquer or enamel...please keep showing more:-):-):-)
The Iwata HP-BCS I would have to say I use the most but man I love my micron's.
I will be posting a lot more videos on my web site as the week goes on.
you sir are a true artist your work blows my mind it really does thank you for all these video's
Thanks for the compliments it is nice to hear once in a while.
Yes it will tis is a metallic that I sprayed on the blue panel.
You would just have to try it on a test panel to see because I haven't played with the auto air colors enough to know the answer to your question.
hey Ed hubbs I'M CURRENTLY REBUILDING MY 1971 OLD SCHOOL CHOPPER , THE MAIN COLOR ON IT IS A MANGO TANGO , AND I WAS GOING TO DO THE REALISTIC GHOST FLAMES IN A GOLD , DO YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR ME?
That is the idea of a ghost flame and yes it is hard to see it but n the sun it looks awesome.
@hbbengreen Seriously? There is no problem what so ever with the build up. I am not sure what you mean by to much build up?
What brand of paints do you use Ed ? I'm looking at the Createx Wicked Colours system and wondered if you had used or are using this . I've been using regular Createx products for 20 years for jackets, murals, etc, but am looking at starting works on cars, bikes, etc.
Yes Kandy will change any other color than black.
Nice job as always Ed. I have to say that I think your construction of flames has gotten way better over time. I remember the earlier days, and I like these much better! I have always struggled with that myself, but feel like I learned alot from your vid. I have several other of your DVD's, but I haven't seen your ghost flame one. How long and how good? Keep up the good work, and thanks again for the tutorial.
I use all sorts of curve patterns for all kinds of different colors.
If I was painting white ghosts over a red base, would I need that same red base or could I use a red kandy that I got in your real fire kit?
Hey Ed many thanks for your great vid, I am trying to do realistic blue flames with Liquitex INK water base paint but I'm not having same effect. have you ever used it pls?. Thanks and keep on rockin.
I use HOK and Diamont. In water Borne I use Wicked Colors. This is in Diamont.
All the stuff you do looks really really sick! I had a couple questions about taking your classes, what's the beat way to get a hold of you? An email or a phone call?
When you say you have the paint "over reduced" how much is over? 75/25? More?
Hi Ed can you recommend a good clear coat to use on a painting that has been painted on a plastic surface? It needs to be high gloss and durable. I have been struggling to find a good review online of one.
Great videos
regards from the UK
Glad you enjoy them.
Hello guys, I'd like to ask you something - there are 2 different airbrushes - one with bottle connected with airbrush under that device, and one which is on the top of the device, I don't know how that things are called, but I hope you guys understand what I mean, - so I'd like to know which one is better, I'd like to buy airbrush and i am not skilled with things like that.... Ty for answers...
I WATCHED ONE OF YOUR VIDEOS WHERE YOU PAINTED A DRAGON BUT I CAN'T FIND IT AGAIN.. WHERE SHOULD I LOOK?
THANKS AND KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK
Thanks Ed, when using it through the Airbush would i need to dilute/reduce it with anything? Or will it be ok to just go straight through the airbrush?
Thanks again
Love the chrome flame please do a vid on that ,or did i miss it
I Like your videos just one question does it matter what kind of airbrush to get....what would be good....its been awhile for me use to have the Badger 175.....want to get back and maybe sell my art online also....whats my best option?
Thanks Ed ! Enjoy your weekend and thanks for all the tips you have posted . =)
What would be a good paint to use for practice so I dont break the bank?
Thank you for your prompt response but I can not find the aluminum panel on the site, tell me which section is it? And send in Italy?
@cpaden7 With auto paint and proper reducers, you shouldn't have a problem, but acrylic mixed with tap water will eventually go moldy. Had it happen twice now and I'm not happy about it. (I Mix up cheap colours to practice with). I gave my old compressor to my mom for cake decorating and she mentioned something about it being a no-no to mix her cake colours with water coz it can make the cake go moldy if its stored for a long time. So, if you use tap water to reduce acrylics, boil it first. o/
Nice job. I love your work and talk about you and your website to my buddies getting in to airbrushing. I still consider my self new to the sport lol. I will send you some videos and pics of the work you helped me with. If anyone reading this wants to do this his videos are the only videos I buy they are outstanding and explain everything so you can understand it. I had some videos I purchased in the past from other people and they would skip explaining some steps. Thank you
Mark Perry Thanks man.
If you have an completely black background...does the candy color infect it or does it just infect brighter parts? Because the surface on this video (darkblue) seems to be more blue afer using the transparent color.
i aint complaining but with that many coats plus when u clear it. its great and easier way to paint ghost flames id be worried about it. wasnt expecting you to cut my head off
Hi Ed, I appreciate your job and your tips help me very much. I would like to know what model arbrush you are using in this video?
thank you
Hey Ed, I'm a huge fan. I have learned a lot from you so thank you. I was wondering is there another way to do ghost designs not just flames? I heard of using a pearl clear instead of paint to give the illusion. What do you do and do you think this is a good idea
Always do a test panel first maybe even a couple different designs to see which way that you want to go.
which one would you get first, for a person trying to step his/her game up and one that has one of the cheaper starter air brushes... I played with the micron and i do like it, but sold it and havent owned another type of brush, so i need to buy another, thats my goal, im going to get a membership, like my lil bro edthekid did, and then im going to get back to airbrushing, i can ride the harley down to coast airbrush and pick up some product, unless you have any for sale? if so, pm me please!
Hey Ed nice work I'm currently working on a fender and I was think of painting colbolt blue skulls on it then ghosting them in. But can you use the ghost technic with a darker colour underneath and a reduced Lighter colour on top since my finder is silver. Thanks
ok thank you for taking the time to respond
hi, love your videos, can you do it in white ghost flame, on white background,
Can this be done with a white background and black paint?
Createx white is always a pain to get to spray correctly. I gave up on it a long time ago and used wicked detail white and auto air transparent white. Much better in my opinion.
Nice to meet you I always study videos and study. I will continue to refer to it.
Thanks
Great technique, Ed! Thanks for sharing!! I wanted to ask though, have you ever had an issue with the base coat trapping wax and grease remover? I've had it happen to me, like after pulling mask, then useing wax and grease remover to clean up before next layer or before clear. Has happened with both HOK and Planet Color. Just wondering what your thoughts are. Later man...
Glad you enjoyed the video
Hey Ed can this be applied to miniature models around 25mm
Yes I am actually trying to only teach classes, write me on my e-mail and I can give you more info.
Hi there great video ... could I ask where your based
Kind regards
Neil
Cool man thanks for watching.
Ed, are you still doing the classes? I was surfing your website but couldn't find those or I missed it.
will this technique work with a metallic base color like autoairs metallic fastback green? a customer wants green flames over a bright green base.
Hey Ed, through all your vids im always wondering what that pvc piping running along your wall is... exhaust?? And also, would it be ok to store my paint after i reduce it? i hate throwing away unused paint. Thanks!
