    I would love to see more ink interviews from you. I love the way you review them and how detailed you are! The way you describe things I don't even have to look at the video to get the perfect visual of exactly what you're talking about. Being a newbie to pens your reviews are the most reputable that I've found!

    I'm excited that you tried an ink review. It was definitely more enjoyable and informative than most other ink reviews out there. I love that you tie in other things that interest you as well. I am a fan of the earthier tones like this ink, so it was refreshing that you didn't start with a standard blue ink.

    This review hit in a good place for me. The last time I saw Cool Hand Luke I watched it with my grandmother after my grandfather passed who gave me my first fountain pen as a kid. Wonderful review and I hope to see more of these reviews from you!

    Great to see an ink review from you David! I think future ones may benefit from being more concise as I know I use them as visual references and prefer the ink is shown off more so than discussion that is more suited to your pen reviews. Can't wait to see more and, as always, keep up the good work!

    Thanks to you and Goulet for the giveaway. My question would be what is your favorite must have ink (the one that is always inked up in a pen everyday) and what is an ink that you absolutely detested? My favorite in has been Diamine Turquoise

    That ink looks great. I got a sample from Goulet and I'm glad you compared it to MB Toffee Brown. This might be my favorite brown ink. What is your go to blue ink? Black? Red? Green?

    Great review. Question: I have been trying a lot of different brands of inks, but none have performed better than Noodler's.
    What are your favorite Noodler's inks?

    A good review. It might be nice to see the different papers you tested with, like Tomoe River or cheaper paper.
    Q: Do you prefer to match up ink to pen? Based on colour, pattern, or design/make (ie. Japanese ink with Japanese pen)?

    I love the looks of this ink. Have totally forgotten the theme, but was impressed by Paul Newman, as usual. It's barely possible that he may have been in a less than optimal film, but I cannot conceive of him putting in a poor effort.

    David, my Homo Sapiens Lava barrel turned several shades of gray and has developed smooth shiny areas while other areas are dull and porous. While some my like the age wear look I don't. I find it aesthetically unpleasing. Can you suggest a way to get back the new pen finish? Thank you David, I look forward to your pen reviews and the Q&A segments every week. Respectfully, Mike

      After 3 years this question deserves a good reply.
      I would love to create another gemstone themed ink: Iolite.
      Like the stone the ink would exhibit pleochroism, from one angle it would appear a dark violet colour and from an opposing angle it would appear a pale yellow just like the iolite does but I understand that this is impossible for an ink which lies flat within the page but it would be cool though.

    As it isn't that easy, to find a Pelikan pen as the perfect fit for this ink (Café Creme would probably be, but isnt really affordable), I would use it in a Safari Umbra with a rare Mk nib.
    And the question: Is Smoky Quartz a re-bottled 4001 brilliant Brown and do you think, that there are more re-bottled 4001s in the Edelstein line?

    Usually I use converter or piston pens. Lately I ran out of ink several times at work while I have been away from a bottle of ink because of some heavy writing stuff at conferences etc. So I switched my Lamy Al-star pacific back to cartridges and put a handful of them in my pencase. What are you doing to prevent running out of ink and would you review some cartridged inks?

    This is a great review of the ink! I love the 2 ink swabs of the same ink. That was very unique! I look forward to more ink reviews from you. I also like how you throw a curve ball into the review by talking about your favorite movie and show clips. And the clip at the end is fabulous. Now I have to watch that movie! I really enjoy your reviews. You have a uniqueness about you that I enjoy. Thanks for doing them. By the way, if you can get your hands on one, the Pelikan M200 in Cognac and the M800 in Tortoise brown (also available now in M400) are great matches for this ink! Thanks for your reviews. Always a good view.

    Ten or 12 years ago I bought several pens from an independent importer of Platinum pens in So. Carolina or Georgia. Do you know if he is still in the pen import business? I can't remember his name. Speaking of ink bottles, I always liked the Skrip bottle with the built-in ink well. I thought it was a great solution to getting the last ink out of the bottle. I have several, and will never throw one out. I wonder why they quit using it?

    Hi David, great ink review, and the CHL references were awesome! Pelikan holds a lot of sentimental value for me - that's the fountain pen I learned how to write with, growing up in Germany. Based on the name of the ink, I would have expected more of a grayish brown, so this review has been very helpful. As far as a question for your Q&A... do any pens or inks hold sentimental value for you?

    David, I enjoyed your first ink review. It's very well done and comprehensive, like all of your pen reviews. I was surprised by how much I enjoy this ink and I completely agree about the shape of the beautiful but not very practical bottle. Once the ink has depleted by only about 20%, I need to decant some into a small vial to fill my *Pelikan* pens with longer nibs. The chromatography was cool.

    I've been looking at getting a Visconti Homo Sapiens but cannot decide on what nib size to get. My perfect nib size is the Lamy 2000's nib in medium. Would the Visconti medium be similar? I've heard it can run wide, but I don't want to get a fine nib and find out it runs true to size!

    • @FigbootonPens
      @FigbootonPens  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had a lot of concern when ordering my HS as well. I knew they ran wide, and was worried the medium would be too much, so I picked up a fine. The fine for me was overly toothy. I didn't care for it at all. I sent the pen back and traded out the nib for a medium, which was much more to my liking. Hope that helps.

    I just got into this fine art a year ago, and I'm OBSESSED! Anyways, my question is why are vintage pens so different than modern? I always see users saying, the writing quality is unsurpassed when it comes to vintage. Why haven't I seen many modern pens recreate the vintage style? For context, I'm very interested in flex writing, so that's where my question arises from!

    • @123ngJohnny
      @123ngJohnny 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's what I imagine. I guess I'll just have to keep tinkering with the Jinhao frankenpen. I was thinking about getting the Falcon, but I don't know how satisfied I'll be with a semi flexed nib. What is your personal opinion on flex writing? Like/dislike?

    • @FigbootonPens
      @FigbootonPens  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have nothing against flex writing, it's just not my style. Mainly because my handwriting is a bit...umm...of an acquired taste...and doesn't necessarily lend itself to flex writing. I like how it looks, though.

    Here I can only find only some 4001s and they are meh. Do you think Edelsteins are better than 4001s?

    Now that you've been talking up inks, do you notice any trends among inks of certain nationalities? For example, is there something most Japanese inks have in common vs German inks vs British inks vs American inks? Putting aside the outsourcing of manufacturing, of course.

    Is there an ink you don't care for? What makes it one you don't like?

    Thanks for reviewing an ink, David and your comments on the bottles are valid as well. I like the ink and it's a bit premature since I've only used it with one nib, but I think I prefer the Piano Mahogany and SBRE Brown's shade of brown inks.
    Super movie choice too! Now ... I know YOU know the answer but today's puzzler for those who may not: what did he do to get sent to prison? :D
    (Btw: I'll pass on winning the give-away bottle since I already have one, but some lucky soul will be very pleased with it!) Thanks a bunch.
