We are still under construction with new 4 A5 robot barn. We like to get the cows used to barn, free stalls, and feed bunk before we get cows in the robots. Need to get them wanting the pellets before the robots also. Any other advice?
@@MrMagnum7220 I don't feel like an expert but I will tell you a few things: dry up any cow you can even a bit early, less cows to train the better, get extra help for other work especially, make sure you have a working phone in the robot room. We should have added a cell phone booster beforehand. It really helps to be able to talk to the Lely hotline when you are in the robot room. We think we should have kept the cows divided into groups longer. We did 3 days maybe do 5 or so. Might be different in a free stall. If you can have a group of heifers you can use the extra tool that makes the stall smaller and use it on all of the heifers in one group. Triple check that your collars are correct, ahead of time, matching the tag and robot number. We used a 4"X 4" square post and slid it into the pinch gate and swing gate behind the cow and then had a person on either side to push the cow with the post. Seemed the most effective. Print off and tape to the door of the CRS in the robot room the instructions for calibrating the arm and resetting the robot. Train for everything the first few days while you have help and the cows are overwhelmed anyway. Discourage all visitors who aren't there to help for the first 5 weeks. They just wear you out and use up your spare rest time. Hopefully you get as good a team from Lely as we did. They really help and know what they are doing. They are also only a phone call away if you need them.
They have settled into the new barn really quickly. We are still fetching most of the herd to bring them to the robot. Between 12-15 for sure go on their own. We had some set backs because of a lightning storm doing damage to some circuits on a computer Panel. We have that fixed now so hopefully things get better now.

I think it feels good. We had some troubles with a lightning strike and it set us back with the training. The robot was working but not well and we didn't know why for a few days. Hopefully it goes better soon.

Looks like it's working. Is there anything you think you could have changed to make it easier. I wonder if they fed the cows pellets in the old barn for a week would make them go in the robot easier. They are all great big pets. Lol

Yes, they told us to split the herd in half and have a pen for milked cows to go into as well. This is how they always do things. We had to have 2 crews of 3 people and Lely came with 4 or 5 people the first morning 2 in the 2nd shift and the next 2 days and down to one from Lely on the 4th day.
