- Obviously this would not be considered the greatest moment anymore! Years have gone by and the quality of play has increased massively. Still an entertaining moment.

I believe that was because his nerve issues caused him severe lockjaw, so he kept his mouth open and relaxed to avoid it.

In this case, about 20 battlecruisers was inside the vortex.
Let's say the archon damage is about 25, it means that in the moment the vortex is released, each archon will do 5000dmg per attack.
The reason this moment was epic is due to the fact that its very hard to get so many battlecruisers inside one vortex in pro-level games. It was actually a huge mistake by Mvp, as he forgot to split the units.

The first ever competitive StarCraft II match I ever watched was this one, and not only was it the best possible game for getting into it, but I saw it live in person at AX-Korea in Seoul. I might be the luckiest gamer on the planet.

at this moment, blizzard said we have to nerf the mothership.
I still come back and watch this from time to time... just for the Archon Toilet and to hear everyone from the commentators to the crowd just losing it..
And people complain about how OP Protoss is in 2016. Wish we still had the Vortex ability, just so they would cry even more.

I think that between the commentators and that crowd and other noises I could hear the Protoss player say "I have returned".
his biggest blunder was never using the infinite scans he had available to check the area for a mothership.
i dunno wtf was up with MVP. You could just A-move to victory with that huge number of battlecruisers. It's freaking easy to split bcs and avoid huge splash from archons, not to mention almost 1/2 of Squirtle's army was trapped, mothership dead and void rays weren't existent. He freaking decided to become cute and make nukes and just gave the protoss time to remake Mothership and charge energy for vortex and enough time to make enough void rays. I mean.... i really don't know what's up with MvP
This was not the greatest moment.
This was one of the saddest and most heartbreaking moments in SC2 history.
MVP absolute dominated him throughout the ENTIRE game then decided not to split up his BC's even though he knew he had a vortex and lost the game.
It was so tragic.
It was still one of the greatest though, as the hype of this climatic match has gone wild.
this almost makes me mourn, is the most epic I've seen in sc2, and a sentence in which I always think before starting a game, BY AIUR!!
Dude maintained the "O" face for the entire game.
Good for the Protoss player for not giving up, but lets be honest the Terran player lost this game. This is a perfect example of one player losing the game instead of the other player winning it if you know what I mean. Why the Terran player didn't push when he had the vastly superior army I will never know, but if he had pushed when he should have instead of just pussy footing around he would have won decisively.
This is more of an epic fail on the Terran players part rather than dominant play from the Protoss player, but hey a win is a win. The Terran player should have played better until the end.
it was brilliant angle from which sqirtle brought the mothership in because he drew mvps attention up left. you gotta give crddits to sqirtle.

When I saw this video, and saw this many battlecruisers, I got excited. I though, "Hey, this guy will have to do something pretty creative, skilled, and interesting to get out of this." Then they mentioned the archon toilet and I was like "oh, right. Protoss."

Well, to put it simple, the archons (The blue balls) attacks has splash damage, so if you group too many units in the same spot, each archon will do tons of damage.
The vortex makes all units in an area disappear for a few seconds, and then every unit is released at the same time in the same place. So, if you throw lots of archons in the vortex, when they are released, each archon will do damage to every unit that was inside the vortex.

George Bush To be fair, Voidrays at that time were literally designed to kill Battlecruisers, and he tossed a bunch of storms on him while they were still spreading after the Vortex.

Vortex was an amazing mechanic, its whoever gets stuck in it's own fault for clumping up their units so much.

+Mason Bliss Mother ship used to have a vortex ability that sucked everything near it into it, when the units come out they are clumped up. Archons have AOE damage (area of effect) so if you flush them down the vortex with the enemy army (that is why it is called archon toilet) you can kill the enemy army almost instantly because archons just do an extreme amount of damage. Voidrays also east battle cruisers if they are not in the masses, so with the vortex the protoss player separated them and let the void rays finish off the escaping battle cruisers.

+Mason Bliss They fixed the vortex ability backin the Wings of Liberty days. Units that leave the Vortex were immune to damage for a short amount of time. Idk if the ability is still in LotV.

It was cool, but Tastosis hyped it up a bit too much. It certainly wasn't an Archon toilet - it was a vortex with a bunch of units nearby, waiting for the BCs to pop. If anything, you'd call it a Templar Toilet, given that Psi Storm seemed to do the most damage after the pop.
Also, I saw a few comments here, but toilets have been done in various iterations over the course of SC2. In particular, in team games you can throw Zerg and Terran AoE damage into the mix - I've seen Baneling and Nuclear Toilets myself, and in particular I find the Nuclear Toilet quite impressive due to the timing involved.

I wouldn't have had a qualm if they were like "it's as close to an archon toilet as we've seen in a pro game", as that's actually true, whereas straight up calling it an archon toilet is, being generous, a huuuge stretch.

I actually really love the archon toilet and love seeing it in action - that's why this was disappointing to me. ;-)
You're defining the toilet as the unit that goes into the toilet. I disagree with that - while you couldn't split the difference between a Baneling toilet or Archon toilet as both those units need to be in virtually-melee range to deal their damage (and thus go into the toilet), a Ghost/Nuke toilet is named as such due to the AoE damage that is dealt to the units. As such, the name is based on the AoE damage/unit, not the units entering the toilet. In this case, there were barely any archons at all (from memory, and I'm not watching it again), and while I love a genuine Archon toilet, this was underwhelming at *best*.
That might have been the greatest moment, but the casters killed it for me.

Mark Harris yeah, they were overly exaggerated back then. In WoL, they're annoying. Overly biased (cough, NesTea), overly exaggerated, overly selling things... right now artosis and tasteless are great technical casters. They are not overhyping things anymore. at least they improved.

I think your friend might have been Psychopathic going by your description rather than sociopathic.
A Psychopath would be eager to kill or mutilate his dog. To destroy it on some level.
A Sociopath would have had that dog for all his life and seen no (or little) difference between killing it and stepping on and ant. Or killing a friend. Because the emotion of attachment would be a mystery to a sociopath, or other emotions might be. That's why its not typically easy to diagnose sociopaths, there's such variety.

It's called an "Archon Toilet" because when everything pops out of the vortex the archons deal splash damage, and everything is forced to pack together so the splash damage gets obscene.

He had no way of knowing that he had another mothership core up, all he knew was he was sniping out all of the archons and had him on the run
With that many nukes being made, he was either in a use it or lose situation
He had the game in his hand but decided to fuck around and not just wipe out his main and paid the price
MVP had a shit ton of battle cruisers. Squirtle teleported a portion of his army to destroy one of MVP's base where they was no other way to get out but to teleport back. Everyone thought that Squirtle was going to lose but he came back with a mothership and fought against MVP. He used the mothership to suck in most of the battlecruisers and summoned the rest of his army. He destroyed the cruisers and pushed to win.
