Southern Region Mark 1 Slam door EMUs are seen at Clapham Junction and London Waterloo. CIG VEP CEP and BEP units are included. Note the immaculate condition of the South West Trains CEP units with only a few weeks left in service. The South Western division always kept their trains cleaner than the Central or Eastern!

I'm a SWT guard working out of Basingstoke. My first day out as a guard just over 11 years ago, took a stopper along the coast PH to Soton. Pulling away from Netley we got about 200 yards and came to a stand. Buzzed the driver who said, Cam Controllers gone mate, we'll have to have a push! My first day out! What was the unit? Goto 2.58 and there it is, 1306 a much missed greyhound! Never thought I'd see it again. Many thanks!

Magic - perhaps more atmospheric than even you intended!! We did look after our CEPs well; by God they didn't half fly if you gave them a bit of rein. Wouldn't stop for love nor money, mind you....

I have a question, did the MLV's have a driving cab as here they're at the head of the Gatwick Express?

Yes there was a driving cab, there'd have to be. They were not MLVs though, they were the driving motor coaches from redundant 2HAP units. Two car 90mph units.

No they all had to be withdrawn by September 2005 as it was made illegal for train operators to use this sort of stock for safety reasons. Virtually all of them have been scrapped, but two still run on the Lymington branch in Hampshire

The sad thing about the slammers is that one of the reasons they ran late was due to someone like the "narna" at 4mins 47 on this vid! Unfortunately these days the delays are usually down to a computer rather than a commuter

Using a tripod is the first and most important rule. Let the train do the moving not the camera.

I didn't see the 14:09 Guildford via Cobbham train leave from platform 3 but I did see a train leave from platform 13.
