Yes exactly. The G4 is an incremental improvement over the G3. Check Ratings out, the numbers don't lie. The G4 is a slightly brighter TV. The G3 is very bright for an OLED or any TV. If money is no objective get the G4. For the rest of us, we should be looking for a heavily discounted G3. Until tandem OLED becomes common, and full screen brightness can get to 1,000 nits, like the new iPad, the rest of these items will be incremental increases each year. Probably focusing on AI and panel efficiency.
Can Anybody tell me if brightness booster Max is auto on or do you need to go to settings and find it, because in this video it shows off and on picture.
I have the G3 77. Am very happy with it. Yes the G4 will be better so will the G5, G6. Am just grateful I have a nice tv. I will not be upgading for a while now
I have the G3, the only thing that interest me is the game mode brightness being fixed. I wish they’d update the G3 to resolve that issue. I guess that’s the selling point of the newest model. Next year‘s models always gonna be a little bit better.
Yeah. Bought G3 65 last year. This TV is amazing and I don't think I will change it in a next 5 years at least. But if I were looking at them now, I would definitely be looking at the newest model
Just got the 77G4. This year LG definitely killed it. Higher brightness, no dimming in game mode, higher color volume, next gen A11 processor and game mode completely fixed. Also no Sony oled this year and S95D has matte screen + extreme thermal throttling
Got the G4 65inch from Richer Sounds for £2619, and it came with the LG GX Gallery soundbar for free. Got delivered yesterday, loving it so far. The only regret is not getting it in 77inch.
I have the LG G3 I think it is a great tv for the price it was also 1200$ more for the G4 so to me it was not worth it for the differences but that's just me couldn't justify it
I could see your point though about improvements but I think for most people saving money may be the right route unless you could justify dishing out the extra, I would love a G4 but I think unless side by side I think the G4 is a settle improvement over last years model
Only real noticeable difference I see is the brightness. Processing looks identical, and I actually prefer the warmer looking images on the G3. Unless they've tackled the colour banding issue that the G3 and C3 both had, I doubt it's worth the upgrade even with the uptick in refresh rate, and a few other minor tweaks especially given the price it's coming in at. Nothing taken away from how beautiful it looks, but I'd buy the G3 and save the thousand bucks

Im just confused about the OS updating. Can you also update the OS of the G3 to the latest version for 5 years or is that only for the G4 and up? To be honest i personally think the difference in picture quality between the G3 and G4 is not worth the higher cost (but that's just based on what i see in the video). I'm planning to upgrade my Samsung Q-led tv. I do like th QD technology for the vibrant colors and i also like the one connect box on my tv. However i experience problems with HDR material (picture goes dim and bright all the time). To be honest i had my mind set on getting a Samsung QD Oled tv but i dont like the pinkish/red tone. Now i think, hey the LG G3/G4 might be the best alternative. The G4 77inch just got discounted in my country at one seller. It's now 3.5k EUR, the G3 is 3.2k EUR. Getting the G4 now as I was buying one this week.
Looking to buy a new tv , current one is the 2008 Pioneer 50 inch Kuro which has been incredible for many years , this will be my first non plasma but do I go for the G3 or the G4 the upgrade will obviously be massive and there is a £600 difference between the models on the 65 inch , from this review the G3 looks warmer in colour and also pretty bright most of my viewing will be through BluRay and via Sky Q , it is in a very bright room but at night it is always watched with no lights on … opinions welcomed

Bonjour, j'ai le G3 en 65" il est Génial après le G4 doit être au top aussi mais d'après les tests de luminosité il n'y a que 200 nits d'écart entre les deux, celà ne fait pas une énorme différence et cela dépend des scènes, la différence elle est avec les 144hrz du G4 avec la puce plus récente qui booste la dalle MLA plus du G4 d'où les 200 nits en plus, mais pour tout le reste ils sont de qualité équivalente et les deux sont aux top , si vous avez le G3 franchement c'est pas la peine de basculer sur le G4 mais si vous avez un G2 ou un C2 , bien là oui ça vaut le coup si vous le pouvez de passer au G4 voilà bien à vous 😉

I noticed that the tv on the right was blowing highlights...but I think it is the exposure on the camera,that was being used,that was causing the problem.
I think a comparison to a qd-oled like the Samsung S90d (skip the S95d as that matte coating is garbage) or the Sony A95L is in order to set the record straight on color volume. I’ve seen how much sharper and more accurate the G4 is compared the all others in a clock scene I saw somewhere but the color volume is what I fear I would be missing out on since QD OLED is the latest tech.
Not enough of a difference to justify the price difference imo. You can still find G3's for only a little bit more than C4's. G4 is gonna be 1300 or more for what mainly amounts to a little extra brightness that you just aren't gonna notice all that much when there aren't other TV's side by side. The G3 gets plenty bright and has MLA as well. Just the better buy at the moment for the budget concious consumer imo.
Just got the g4 77 inch.. lovely tv.. started out by watching Altered Carbon on Netflix to test black crush.. I still have it.. and i think it is here to stay.. not an expert and haven't tuned things according to guides yet.. Still a super amazing tv.. Up next to my 65 CX it is a huge improvement.. that being said for anyone who doesn't have the money to burn.. it isn't such a big difference to justify cost.. You can see in this video that the G3 is more vibrant at times, you also have to keep in mind that these are out of the box settings, and colors are not being pushed to their best.
Yes, that’s true. What I’m curious about though is Rtings claim that the G3’s panel is capable of showing color that the G4’s panel is not. Im not too concerned about color vibrancy, but it would be a bummer if the G4 was less capable than its predecessor.
I got a review deal on the G4 so I upgraded as after the sale of the G3 the cost was negligible. The G4 is definitely better, main thing I’ve noticed on daily usage is the image processing. Side by side on any hdmi is also welcomed. I’d say it depends on your budget and needs. Would I have upgraded at full price, no, the G3 is a brilliant tv and was super happy with it. 144hz is great for my pc gaming but not something I’d sad about not having

Upgrading from a 2016 lg curved oled tv to the G4. My old tv has pretty significant burn that is getting to the point that it's distracting. Colors and brightness have gotten worse too. Sadly last week my G4 was DOA with a huge crack on the bottom right. Trying again this week with a replacement🤞

Have you done any testing of the SG10TY vs S80TR sound bars? Or even against the S90TR. I certainly like the look of the SG10TY, but I would imagine the overall sound stage would be much better with the TR versions.

I'm impressed, but regarding the sound, is it necessary to get a soundbar? I mean, I would get a TV stand instead of wall-mounting the TV. So if you say yes to a soundbar, I guess there is no newer one for non-wall-mounted versions, right?
I think soundbar is necessary with these TVs as the sound is really not that great with integrated speakers. Better would be to get the slim soundbar the new SG10TY and wall mount. It will look clean and pleasing.
As much as we love the tech especially compared with TVs anyone over 50 yrs of age grew up with, one can’t help but cringe at the constant minor upgrades these companies keep putting out year by year constantly honing in on the frailty of the insatiable part of the human character that “wants”…easy to be cynical…!

No real difference. The TV has no burn in and will get just as bright after a year. Modern OLEDs are way more resilient than ones from even 4 or 4 years ago. Probably why LG feels safe giving a 5 year warranty on the G series
Your saying 100% colour volume however you fail to mention that the LG Oleds do not use Quantom dots like Samsung and Sony. The Quantum dot oleds are out performing the old WRGB oleds without quantum dot technology like the LG G3 and G4. I appreciate that you are sponsored however honestly is more important.
I hear this year after year after year and you already know now that the G5 will be better than the G4 and so on and so on you have to sell TVs so there is always an improvement.

Outstanding review. You answered all my questions and I’ll be getting the G4. I do like the idea of the sound bar as I currently use an Amplifier receiver so I need to look at quality differences between them.
I've got the g3 65, and it hurts my eyes, so the brightness is down at 50%. The hdr is still too much with my old eyes. What should be said is that all the 4k streams you can get are compressed, and the picture quality is good to absolute sh!te. 4k blu ray is the best you're going to get, so for everyday tv viewing, these tv's are an absolute waste of time. Sky in the UK should be ashamed of their 4k output.
5 years updates & then what? I've got a dumb Kuro loads older than that,, still going strong. Guess it doesn't break cos it's not relying on outside influences 🤷

I have the 77G4 and 65A95L. The G4 is more impactful in hdr and in gaming. Also my A95L dims down the APL pretty fast, the G4 doesn’t. That said the A95L is still an incredible TV, especially if you only watch movies, tv and series

There was the odd scene where the G3 looked better, obviously it’s been run in for around a year but the consistency in brightness was with the G4
I did have some issues with the camera exposure, these OLEDs are just getting too bright!

You can see in this video that the G3 is more vibrant at times, you also have to keep in mind that these are out of the box settings, and colors are not being pushed to their best.
Yes, that’s true. What I’m curious about though is Rtings claim that the G3’s panel is capable of showing color that the G4’s panel is not. Im not too concerned about color vibrancy, but it would be a bummer if the G4 was less capable than its predecessor.

I got a review deal on the G4 so I upgraded as after the sale of the G3 the cost was negligible. The G4 is definitely better, main thing I’ve noticed on daily usage is the image processing. Side by side on any hdmi is also welcomed.
I’d say it depends on your budget and needs. Would I have upgraded at full price, no, the G3 is a brilliant tv and was super happy with it. 144hz is great for my pc gaming but not something I’d sad about not having

Upgrading from a 2016 lg curved oled tv to the G4. My old tv has pretty significant burn that is getting to the point that it's distracting. Colors and brightness have gotten worse too. Sadly last week my G4 was DOA with a huge crack on the bottom right. Trying again this week with a replacement🤞
I have a 2017 C7, I would be interested (aside from your burn-in issue) what you think of the G4 in comparison now that you’ve had it for a few weeks? Does it really make a difference? Aside from the original wow effect.

Have you done any testing of the SG10TY vs S80TR sound bars? Or even against the S90TR. I certainly like the look of the SG10TY, but I would imagine the overall sound stage would be much better with the TR versions.

I'm impressed, but regarding the sound, is it necessary to get a soundbar? I mean, I would get a TV stand instead of wall-mounting the TV. So if you say yes to a soundbar, I guess there is no newer one for non-wall-mounted versions, right?
I think soundbar is necessary with these TVs as the sound is really not that great with integrated speakers. Better would be to get the slim soundbar the new SG10TY and wall mount. It will look clean and pleasing.

As much as we love the tech especially compared with TVs anyone over 50 yrs of age grew up with, one can’t help but cringe at the constant minor upgrades these companies keep putting out year by year constantly honing in on the frailty of the insatiable part of the human character that “wants”…easy to be cynical…!

No real difference. The TV has no burn in and will get just as bright after a year. Modern OLEDs are way more resilient than ones from even 4 or 4 years ago. Probably why LG feels safe giving a 5 year warranty on the G series

Your saying 100% colour volume however you fail to mention that the LG Oleds do not use Quantom dots like Samsung and Sony. The Quantum dot oleds are out performing the old WRGB oleds without quantum dot technology like the LG G3 and G4. I appreciate that you are sponsored however honestly is more important.

Not worth the extra money for what amounts to a little brightness honestly. You will never miss it because you won't notice unless you have these TV's side by side.
Outstanding review. You answered all my questions and I’ll be getting the G4. I do like the idea of the sound bar as I currently use an Amplifier receiver so I need to look at quality differences between them.

I've got the g3 65, and it hurts my eyes, so the brightness is down at 50%. The hdr is still too much with my old eyes. What should be said is that all the 4k streams you can get are compressed, and the picture quality is good to absolute sh!te. 4k blu ray is the best you're going to get, so for everyday tv viewing, these tv's are an absolute waste of time. Sky in the UK should be ashamed of their 4k output.
I need a new TV and that's exactly my fear, it's too bright because my "home theater" is always dark and I don't want to grill my eyes

I have the 77G4 and 65A95L. The G4 is more impactful in hdr and in gaming. Also my A95L dims down the APL pretty fast, the G4 doesn’t. That said the A95L is still an incredible TV, especially if you only watch movies, tv and series
