I really appreciate the. Builds that incorporate off the shelf parts over 100% 3D printed parts, makes good use of ready made bits instead of waiting on a printer.
Bro that is so smart for the eye. Ive been racking my brain how to make the eye but i remember as a kid there used to be bouncy balls that looked like that eye ball. Bravo bro this came out amazing.
Bro! Your work is amazing and your videos with links and templates really set you apart from others. Thank you for brining us together with your imagination and passion.
You never cease to amaze me with how you take ordinary things to create “real” props like this. The build is terrific and the weathering is superb. Awesome video!
Derek, if you don't already, you should start doing Star Wars conventions - bring your props to show and advertise the website. Fans would LOVE to see your creations in person. Heck, you could lead a prop building panel.
Can’t remember if you’ve pointed this out or not. If you have a joint that you need to strengthen, you can put baking soda on it and then drop superglue onto that. It sets quickly and creates a solid fill. Not sure if it’s helpful or not, but wanted to throw it out there. Thanks for all your work the great explanation and the entertaining video!
Looks fantastic! One thing I might have missed and was curious about - does the "neck" extend out using the nested PVC pipes? Even if it has to be done manually? Cool either way, but nested pipes like this have given me an idea how to maybe solve a similar problem elsewhere...
2:00 I've discovered using a nail and a single hammer-hit as a starter dent keeps the drill bit from wandering around a smooth surface. Just a thought.
You didn’t show how you made the main eye covering after you glued the beads inside the half globe. Is that piece and the other two 3 d printed or where then all cut out with a dremel tool? Sorry I just somehow missed those steps on how to make the main eye surrounding that the two other parts on each side that that. Prop looks excellent
That’s correct. My intention was to make those parts from 6” acrylic spheres but they got lost in the mail. So I just 3d printed those parts because I was running out of time and wanted to get the video out this week.
Off topic, but I have a question for the creator: Your video has various audio tracks, including German. Are these audio tracks automatically generated by YT, or can the creator set this or create audio tracks himself? I don't know about the other languages, but the German voice sounds extremely artificial. Almost like that old Windows text-to-speech voice that sounds like a broken C3PO ^^. And is there an option for the creator to automatically set the audio track corresponding to the country as the default? Unfortunately this is quite annoying, as it seems to be the case in more and more videos that a different audio track is automatically used than the original one.
Bravo sir!! Love this build!
Thanks dude!
This turned out beautifully! The hairspray trick really does make the aging appear very realistic.
It really does. It's one of my favorites that doesn't get used as much as I'd like.
Magnificent job! I use your hairspray trick all the time and it works wonders!
Glad you like it! It's one of my favorite tricks.
The weathering is outstanding love this technique fantastic build !!!
Fantastic build my friend!! Love your coat hanger solution and the weathering is outstanding! As always!!
Thanks for the inspiration!
Another awesome build. Really enjoy your videos. I always learn something new. 👍😎
I really appreciate that!

Nearly solicitor ready- can’t wait to see the next evolution!
I never miss a van oaks video

I can’t take credit for it. I read about it in an old thread on the Replica Prop Forum. But I agree, it’s really clever.
I’ve always loved these droids. Great job.
Same here! Thanks!

Thanks, I really appreciate the kind words!

I’d love to. Maybe in the new year!
This was truly a FANTASTIC build. I especially love the approach for the hinge elements and support arms...just fantastic problem-solving!
Thank you very much!
One of my favorite droids and this is a killer representation. That lens is such a smart solution!
This turned out so great! And the way you did it is pretty genius.
Thanks! It was a fun build.

Love how you did the lens! Great work man!
I appreciate that, thanks!
Ooo I love that trick with the hairspray! That really made the weathering pop
Great job. This has been on a bucket list and your step-by-step and the components you used will move this up my list.
Looks great. I like the way you made the eye.
Thanks!
Whoa that is really awesome. Nice work. I especially love that hairspray trick!!
Came out great! Love the hairspray idea...
It’s one of my favorites!
Thank you so much for sharing this incredible build!
You’re very welcome. I’m glad you liked it!
Love the gatekeeper droid, thanks for sharing your build!
My pleasure. I’m glad you liked it!
der sieht sowas von knorke aus! ❤ 🤙
ILM quality looks like to me!!! Great job. Looking to try the hairspray technique some day! Happy Holidays!
Thanks!
Looks fantastic!

It does not. I figured a static version works best for my space and I’m not all that technically inclined. So a fixed length is what I went with.
Yep, gonna make one for my office next year :)
badass love this build def gonna try that hairspray trick on my upcoming builds

Great tip!
Definitely saving this one. Gotta make one soon
Great work 👍👍
Thank you so much
Good stuff! My son and I enjoyed the build! Where’d you find that C3PO voice? Been needing to find one for an upcoming vid 🤔
Thanks! I found a C-3PO voice generator online for free.
@@VanOaksProps nice! I’ll have to take a look around
Inspired choice to make the texture for the “eye”. Seems so simple after seeing it but I know I’d be stumped for weeks trying to figure that
I can’t take credit for it. It was suggested by GoldenArmor.com. Definitely a great approach.

@ link in the video description.
@@VanOaksProps thank you and Merry Christmas, love your videos and the tone. Keep making things. Cheers
@@VanOaksProps I'm sorry, I must not be seeing it. I'll figure something out. Thanks, anyway.
Awesome!
That is pretty cool
I been wanting to build this guy for years. I have 3D model just need to print it
SO COOL! The coat hangers were genius! as for making the top part removable can you use some small rare earths magnets?
That’s what I was thinking too.
I want to incorporate one of these with my video doorbell

They’re auto generated.
