      It took Marvin Hagler years to get a title shot because every middleweight champ was seriously concerned about him....and once he did....he dominated the division and became one of ImaSportsphile's boxing legends during the golden age of boxing (1964 - 1995)

    Lee tested positive for cocaine after just after the fight and later it came out that he had been smoking crack right up to the night before. This was not The Petronelli's or Marvin's fault. If any one is to blame it is Emmanuel Steward who knew this guy was in no condition to fight but needed a last minute replacement to keep his payday.

      I remember that like it was yesterday. Also Alex Wallu refused to list Hagler as Marvelous although he used William Lee nickname Caveman therefore he changed his name legally.

    Richard O'Brien, Hagler faught hard to get where he was and didn't need to move up to where everyone wanted to be, in his middle weight kingdom. He tamed a Beast(Mugabe) he annihilated a Caveman as you just saw, he hammered a Martillo(Roldan) and he went to war and Destroyed a Hitman (Hearns). So he took it easy on your boy Duran who gave a good fight , but was only good for a sparring session and was never a threat to his throne. So take a back seat where you belong.

    Caveman Lee had knocked out something like 7 or 8 straight before this bout and was a legitimate challenger. Hagler and the Petronelli bros. had no idea about Lee's drug issue going into the bout.

      We at ImaSportsphile webpage responsible for posting this video along with 2000+ others like it....are of the opinion thatHagler fought any and all legitimate challengers to his middleweight title during his day....he didn't avoid fighters until they were old like Chavez and Mayweather Jr.....and Lee was legit....but what is you source for the info regarding Marvelous and the Petronelli's knowing about the "drug issue"?

    Thanks for posting. Great channel. I haven't seen the Braxton-Martin fight since watching it live. He was a beast at this time. Martin had just given Saad a great fight and Dwight just brutalized him. Martin showed a lot of guts to survive the 2nd. He had the bad luck to had to have fought Mustafa Muhammad, Saad and Braxton or he would have been a champion

    Duran went up nearly 30 lbs. to give Hagler his most competitive fight--even dropping his hands in distain of his power. Hagler didn't have the balls to go up even half that wt. to challenge Braxton. Duran dominated the lightweight division more so than Hagler did the middleweight. Therefore, Duran is rated higher on most all time lists ( and rightfully so.)

    • @kjackson9000
      @kjackson9000 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Rich O'Brien The fight wasn't that competitive imo. Duran showcased showmanship and a good beard but he wasn't all that effective and outboxed

    • @rociosuastegui5673
      @rociosuastegui5673  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Our incredible vintage boxing library at ImaSportsphile's webpage goes a long way in providing evidence of great boxers and their ability to move up in weight to fight....which more did for money than they did because of their true boxing weight. Hagler was a true middleweight and to say that he "didn't have the balls" is absolutely ludicrous.

    • @ann-marieclarke1191
      @ann-marieclarke1191 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Rich O'Brien,Marvin fought 50 bouts at middleweight before he got a title shot, so why should he moved up in weight after winning the title, it was time for him to start 'eating the fruits from his hard labour.

    • @halleck3
      @halleck3 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      + Ann-marie True! Don't know why this Hagler fight attracted so many haters but geez... he was denied a title shot for ages, and then when he did get one he was robbed (vs. Vito) and then finally won (British crowd threw bottles at him). And then you get trolls bitching about his opposition. I say Hagler earned it and it was time to enjoy it!
