Purchased A $150 Pop-up Camper Without Seeing It First! You Won't Believe What I Found Inside!

- Found this pop-up camper for $150 because the cable that lifts the top broke. I wasn't able to see what it looked like do to the broken cable. It's a 1991 Dutchmen that has 4 beds. Replaced the cable now to do some minor repairs. Was a long days work.
For $150, you got a bargain. Much nicer inside than I was expecting, and with a proper winch and some practice the setup should get pretty slick. Nice!

Yes for Once the Guy was Real Honest I would be holding my breath until it was open. From the looks of the outside of it ya didn’t know what to expect not that the outside was that bad
For a $150, you got a good deal. But one thing I did not see you put in I did not see you put in. The safety bars should be 2 of them. At least one on each side Kitty corner. They go on to the the lift post. They are pretty important in case the cable fails. Those safety bars keeps the top from falling down on you.
@chrisnoeske8904 I didn't get any with this. I'll have to look into it. I do have semi load locks I can chop down and put in all 4 corners! This is my first pop-up. Thanks for the info!

When I was growing up, my dad bought a new StarCraft pop up. We used that thing so much that at the end of that campers life, my dad used 2, 2x4s , kitty corner on the posts. It worked. 👍🏻😀
Wow. Here in nz you would pay probably $5000 for a pop top like that. Even in the condition it is in.
Wow. For $150, I was expecting to see shredded screens and mouse eaten cushions. That’s in really great shape for what you paid for it. 👍🏻

That's a steal for $150! It needs work, but nothing that'd stop you from camping in it. The fridge is a bummer, but for the price, you still couldn't beat it. We love our pop-up as it's still small and light, but offers sleeping room and is much more comfortable than tent camping. I hope you make a few memories in it before you figure out if you want to sell it or keep it.

Best flip value would probably be just fixing the basic stuff, cleaning her up and maybe adding electric winch. The canvas looked in good shape....just to replace that would probably be 1,000's!!
But as you say, she tows well and maybe worth keeping.

I did the same thing with one I purchased for a hundred dollars. The hardest part was getting all four cables to pull at the same time. Also, I removed the tent part and patched the panels. After that I had a good camper. I finally graduated to a motor home for $1000.

Skipped out on buying a very nice camper ,just because there was no sink in the bathroom . No way is anyone going to wash their hands in my kitchen sink after using the bathroom. I'd have to find a different location for the potty, sorry.

Have to admit at first when you started to lift up the top I thought oh dea lol but then when you skipped to the fully up part I was like ok this is defo a bargain for $150 in the U.K. that would be at least $300 and when it’s cleaned up and fridge in and gas bottle connected would be at least a $600-$1000 dollar camper so we’ll done sir 👏👏

Oh my goodness you got one heck of a bargain there. I have seen ones in really, really bad condition go for a few thousand dollars. But that may just be here in Australia. Even the old 1980's models still sell for $5,000 to $6,000.
I would keep it as it looks like it won't take much to fully tidy it up. 😊

Pretty awesome little camper until the first time it rains, and that roof leaks like a sieve.
That's awesome you got a great deal obviously. I've never seen one so clean. People in California buy them with a California permanent trailer license plate no fees ever🎉 sometimes they buy them all messed up and just got them. And make them into whatever they want from a living type trailer to just dragging around stuff. But no matter what you do to it in California as long as it has that plate there's never any fees. People used to find little U-Haul trailers and do the same thing with the permanent plate🎉

Amazingly good value. In Australia, or New Zealand, I'd expect you to pay $1,500 (likely more, a lot more) for one in that condition. I'm super jealous (but in a nice way) enjoy your new popup camper.

I was given a pop up trailer, told not to open it until I got it home! Im 70 years old and love camping, but my free trailer turned out to be trashed!

Dude, that is way cool, good buy for $150, You Need Safety Props to prevent the to from coming down on you, especially in windy weather etc…👍🏻

My best friend lived a pop-up camper while we went through Tech-School in Florida. IF I had it to do all over again I'd do the samething he did because he lived CHEAP, He would just parked it at one of the 3 State parks in and around Orlando at like $300 a month, the only problem he ever had was he could only stay there for 30 days so once a month he would have to pack it up and move to another one, which wasn't really a problem. Most state parks have bathroom and shower facilities plus a pit and bbq area so all he needed is somewhere to sleep.

@@landoncustomclassics Yep, Me too, When I was stationed My 1st Sergeant and his wife lived in an RV in the Campground, it was going to be their last duty station and then they were going to travel the U.S. so they figured they would just get used to it before hand.

On the older pop ups.. You push the front bed out.. And put the prop rods up to hold bed up .
Don’t pull your bed screens out until the bed frame is slid out. You risk snagging it and tearing it. And the top half the door usually Hangs ands folds to the roof for closing.

Pretty good shape for the price you paid. I'm sure you've figured out by now that the little two-burner wasn't original to the trailer and did not hook up to the gas line. You may still be able to find a "table" to attach to the outside to cook on.

The flap of canvas on the corners with the velcro, should go over top of the lift arms to prevent rain from running down inside around them.

I had a popup camper by Coleman, made many nice trips around the USA in it. While at home, my wife was burning some leaves, went inside the house for a minute, came back out and the wind had blown the fire under it, it burned up and was a total loss. I never bought another one, but I did buy a used motorcycle pulled popup and we have used it several times. Cannot even tell it is behind the vehicle pulling it! We can easily sleep 3 in it!

Would make a great fishing Shaq. Great 👍 job. Even if you scrape it bare for trailer you can use this. Was thinking I could get truck sleeper on the trailer and use it locally.

Around our area trailers have to be hard sided because of the bear population.
But then again when we go on vacation it’s usually in Hawaii.
We live in the mountains of north central Washington state.
On our mountain (where our house is built) we have a bears, Elk, Deer, wild Turkey and Mountain Lions.
We Always take bear spray and a .357 with us when we hike our mountain.

Much easier to pull the beds out from outside. Then once out you straighten the canvoas out. Also that door is supposed to be attached to the roof. When lowering it It will fold underneath. For the price looks like the canvas is good so that makes it worth it. Hopefully you got a title with it. Also is the roof ok? I saw it bowing down in the middle. Could quick flip after fixing the cable for $1200 with title.

I think that camp stove is meant to be used with the little green bottles of propane. The pressure is different from the large 20 lb. Tanks that ride on the front of the trailer.

The cable goes to a crank ratchet mechanism as the cable tenchen increase the Goshen springs literally raises the roof all ways put in the sides support when occupying for safety
