After considerable haggling, Mattie (Hailee Steinfeld) convinces Rooster (Jeff Bridges) to help her find the man who killed her father.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Fourteen-year-old Mattie Ross (Hailee Steinfeld) joins an aging U.S. marshal (Jeff Bridges) and another lawman (Matt Damon) in tracking her father's killer into hostile Indian territory in Joel and Ethan Coen's adaptation of Charles Portis' original novel. Sticking more closely to the source material than the 1969 feature adaptation starring Western icon John Wayne, the Coens' True Grit tells the story from the young girl's perspective, and re-teams the celebrated filmmaking duo with their No Country for Old Men producing partner Scott Rudin. Josh Brolin and Barry Pepper co-star.

Yesterday I was watching this movie in original dub without subs (English not my first language), but as soon as character of Jeff Bridges starts speaking I had to switch to another dub:)

I really can't imagine a better cast of actors for this movie.
What a perfect scene. His suspender getting caught on chair...so amazing. Everyone in this movie was perfect.

When I saw those seconds in the movie I laughed for some damn reason. And reading your eloquent reciting of his reaction amused me more than it should have.
Those slapping sounds from when the birds hit each other are very nice too
I can watch this scene 1,000 times and I will laugh every time he says that.

Her line about camping with her father at Petit Jean always puts a smile on my face. I live in the same area that her character is from in Arkansas and grew up camping there. If any of you have been there, you'd certainly agree how pretty it is.

I laughed out loud throughout this picture it's great. The way Jeff looks at her like she's crazy as hell! Hahahaha
I'm sure the dialogue would be electric if I could understand any of it.
The magic's gone if you understand it.
Read some classic literature. She's speaking like a well-educated young lady of the period would, which is meant to be striking because she doesn't come of money. It speaks well of her parents, who educated her properly on the frontier.

The way Rooster blew her off at the courthouse and now just sort of stares (stare?) at her in a sort of begrudging respect because he's realized Mattie can dish it right back and has her heels dug in.
This dialogue is grade A gold. I love anything the Coen brothers touch. Anything. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I liked both versions but I agree Haillee Steinfield is this biggest advantage this remake has.

This is in the top five of best movies ever. Superb acting.
Exceptional film. Massively underrated with two incredible performances.
I have to admit that I love both versions. Each made at different time reflecting our evolving view of the old west. I'm not fond of Jeff Bridges but he gives a fine performance in this role.

Wayne is and will always be national treasure but nearly every other actor in the first movie sucks, especially Glen Campbell.

One of a few movies I’ll actually sit and watch if I catch it and enjoy every scene regardless how many times I’ve seen it. I do wish that they had been able to reconnect later in life tho. Not sure if it woulda made the movie better, but I know I woulda enjoyed seeing it. I know it’d likely come off as being outta place and not an ending for this type of story.

Cohen bros films always have a quality appearance in the lighting and cinematography that doesn't have the artificial harshness many contemporaries do.
In "True Grit", Mattie Ross kills a man at point blank range when she was 14yrs old. 25 yrs later in life, she does not smile anymore.
My favorite actor, he has a special quality.
This version is better than the original...but both are good.

That is how people spoke back then. Relationships were much more formal back then, even between parent and child. I think this version is better than the original and that was a good picture. Casting and directing are better in this one.

I love the Wayne original ... but this is a all around superior movie :)
Everything from the characters, to the costumes, to the locations is perfect. I also wluld be amiss if I didnt mention the soundtrack. Unique and powerful.
