  • Upgrading your old CPU can seem like a daunting task, but it is actually one of the easiest parts that you can upgrade on your pc. In this video, I show you how to upgrade your AMD Ryzen CPU step by step.
    AMD RYZEN 9 5950x: amzn.to/3INLKDO
    AMD Ryzen 9 5900X: howl.me/cj2JWG...
    DeepCool AS500 Plus Cooler: amzn.to/3IOfAbl
    Artic MX-4 Thermal Paste: amzn.to/3tKNGsE
    Lens Wipes: amzn.to/3tJuATI
    Upgrading your CPU will bring improved performance for video editing or gaming. I swapped out my old Ryzen 3900x for the Ryzen 5950x CPU. For my cooler, I am using the DeepCool AS500 Plus CPU cooler which does a wonderful job at keeping my CPU below 50C. In this video, I removed the Ram and GPU so that I can have room to get my camera inside the case to get close-up shots. You don't need to remove them. I hope this step-by-step CPU removal and installation guide helps you out. If you have any questions let me know in the comment section and I will get back to you as soon as possible. I hope this video helps you learn how to install a CPU.

    I reccomend using latex gloves because your skin oils left on any material / components will effect heat transfer as well as it may cause metals to corrode. Example - If you change your cars headlight bulbs and leave a fingerprint on the glass bulb, that glass will heat differently and this will actually cause the bulb to burn out much faster.

    I was told the wiggling option of removing a stuck cooler was wrong, since it could damage the pins underneath the cpu. I was told to run your pc for a bit to warm up the thermal paste and then take it off, worked for me well.

      Running the PC to warm up the thermal paste is always the best option. Especially when it's really stuck. Mine wasn't that stuck it seemed to be stuck and it only required a little bit of force since the PC was turned off about 15 minutes prior to making the video. I'd say yeah make sure you have just recently been running your PC. Thank you for the recommendation.

    The most important thing when replacing a cpu is to check the compatibility of your new cpu with your current motherboard. After confirming the correct socket (AM4 for example), you gotta check which chip series is compatible with your motherboard. Again, for example, AMD ryzen has 2000 series, 3000, 5000, etc... after that, order some thermal paste and youre good to go. All of this is assuming you made sure you have met the minimum power supply requirement of course.

    WAY too much thermal paste!
    The X shape will spread unevenly due to the overlap in the center of the X and it will spill out the sides due to the amount. You just need a (large) pea sized dot in the center and let the cooler slowly settle into it to spread it out.

    I know i'm the one looking up the tutorial but I have replaced my cooler before and I learned there is no need for that much Thermal paste, the actual CPU spot that gets hot is just the small area in the center, the dot/pea method is best, any extra is too much

    • @awesomeaxel1
      @awesomeaxel1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ideally, you should have a thin layer of thermal compound covering the entire area between the cpu lid and the cooler surface. The rice/pea sized dab in the center is to allow the paste to spread out evenly over the lid. It's not necessarily a one size fits all scenario though. Some cpus like the threadripper series recommend a larger amount and different pattern when applying thermal compound, for example.

I’m only asking cuz of how demanding Windows 11 is with its requirements and first time experience.

      New CPU: AMD ryzen 7 5800x
      Old CPU AMD ryzen 5 1600
      I've been on the support site "techguy" for help and tried everything, updating bios to the latest version, even though the one I was on previously supported the new chip, clearing the CMOS, removing the battery, removing and re inserting it. I'm 100% sure it's in the right way too with the yellow triangle aligned correctly. At this point the only explanation is that I have a defective cpu.

    I have a Asus B450-F motherboard. I bought a 2000's series Ryzen 7 to replace my 2600x Ryzen 5 for price but also to avoid updating bios. How likely is a bios update to damage my PC? Keep hearing that it can brick my PC. Is that really a likely possibility? Should I go ahead and update my bios anyways? It is a few years old at this point and I will be upgrading from 16GB RAM to 32GB also, as well as possibly increasing my M.2 SSD from a 250GB stick to a 1TB stick.

    • @AuDDz
      @AuDDz ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bios update will only hurt you if the process is interrupted. Since you purchased your items based on compatibility you shouldn't have to worry about updating. If you plan to get a higher end cpu that isn't compatible with the same motherboard definitely update

    • @ElijsDima
      @ElijsDima ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Nowadays most BIOS updates are pretty reliable. As long as you have a a newly formatted USB flash drive with only the bios file on it, it should be pretty straightforward. The only things that could go wrong could be due to using really old USB sticks that are themselves dodgy, which is not that common. Or if you have unreliable power supply in your home, because power going out during the update would lead to bricking. But if your USB memory is fine and your power is reliable, then it's quite safe.
      That said, since you didn't get a newer generation CPU, you don't need to do any bios updates.
      (I updated my mobo's bios yesterday since I have a new am4 cpu incoming later this week).

      i’m currently in the same boat. your mobo should have small color LED lights that flash to indicate what it’s checking during boot. They usually sit near the main mobo power cable. My asus has a White led(VGA) Orange(dram) Red(CPU) and Green(boot). Currently when I power on it goes “Orange, White, Orange, Red” then begins to loop White,Orange,Red over and over. Fans and case lights turn on, AIO turns on, but no signal to display and no Green boot light. I’ve narrowed it down to incompatible RAM, Defective Mobo, or CPU. Everything is brand new, so Im gonna try changing RAM first since the one I got technically isn’t on my manufactures “Quality Verification List” for the 5800x3d. If it’s not the RAM i’d probably try RMA the the mobo next, then lastly the cpu. I also reflashed the bios after resetting and clearing CMOS but that didn’t work.

      No, you'll have to get him an intel CPU. Specifically, an intel CPU with the socket type "LGA 1151"

    Does it need to download and install new chipset drivers from AMD site or it will take them automatically (in case upgrade 2600 to 5600)?

    • @ghtechreview
      @ghtechreview  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      You will need to update the chipset driver from the AMD site once you install the new CPU. AMD offers auto-detect software for windows 10 and 11 that you can download from the AMD site. Once it finishes downloading and you launch the software it will automatically detect your CPU and update it accordingly. Hope this helps.
