  • Bali - that heaven for Indonesian Street Food lovers! In this Indonesian street food tour of Bali, come with us to Pasar Taman Griya, a really local authentic Balinese Pasar (Market) in Jimbaran, where we try out so many incredibly yummy street food dishes like Bakso Sapi, Aneka Bubur, Susu Kedele, Coklat keju Crepe, Jamu and so much more! It was an incredible Saturday morning feast of Indonesian breakfast foods and so interesting as we encountered new exotic Indonesian foods we didn't recognise. Paired with the uniquely warm and cheery local Balinese culture this is an experience everyone should try at least once when they visit Bali, Indonesia. We loved interacting with the local Balinese people at Pasar Taman Griya, they were some of the nicest and friendliest we have encountered so far!

Hi guys, beras kencur is one of our jamu concoction. It's generally made from kencur (cutchery/sand ginger) cinnamon, roasted rice, palm sugar, pandan for aroma.

Hi we enjoy your posting thx.. Aneka = various, ketan= glutinous rice, gloopy thing that you ate is called bubur candil. It is made of tapioca flour balls, coconut milk, palm sugar and some time people add small chunk of boiled cassava and the smell come from pandan leave. Glad to know that you enjoy our street food

Hi Jean! That's Bubur sum sum is an Indonesian dessert made by cooking rice flour in coconut milk and served with palm sugar syrup. There is also a variety served with sweet potato dumplings (biji salak). Bubur sumsum or some called it bubur som som, is Indonesian traditional sweet dessert. Yummy breakfasts... Makes me 🤤🤤

Ketan itam or Pulut itam (malay) is black sticky rice. Thats rice flour serve with brown sugar, javanese called bubur (pooridge) sumsum. Lontong wrap with banan leaf ,but when its wrap with coconut leaf named ketupat. The one drink what make jean sweat also called jamu named beras (rice) kencur (aromatic ginger - different with regular ginger). ❤️❤️👍👍

The Bakso reminded me with the conversation i have with my Balinese driver back then. He told me that most Bakso seller are actually not a native Balinese ( mosly Javanese ) , because Balinese have ,in his own words mind you , no skill to make a good Bakso if they did , because Bakso originally made from cow meat , and cow is a sacred animal for the Hindus . He said even if there some 'naughty' hindu people did make it , it just wouldn't taste that good , well i guess it's already engraved in their own subsconciousness that eating cow is bad. Anyway , can't wait to visit Bali again.

@Jean and Vitaly, I think that drink is called "Beras Kencur" - (Rice Kaemferia Galanga)
    .
Beras Kencur is made by a combination of rice (beras not peanut) and aromatic Kaempferia galanga (kencur) as main ingredients. This natural remedy can be used to cure various diseases and as beauty treatments such as whiten skin, skin tightening and to polish hair. It also believes that this natural remedy can enhance male sexual vitality, cure cough and stomach ulcer as well as fatigue.
    .
Stay fun and healthy there in Bali. 😉👍

I just want to help you understand more about the last drink you guys drunk.
It’s called „jamu.“ a traditional healthy drink from Indonesia.
It was literally made from extract herbs that has been dried out , powdered then distilled and mixed with sugar (could be palm, or white).
There are several type of „jamu“.
„Beras - kencur“ means rice and galanga (aromatic ginger).
    „Jahe“ means normal ginger
As you may understand bit in this video, many people believe by drinking jamu, it will enhance your stamina (which chemically true, because herbs contain a lot of phenolic compounds that are good for our body).
For foreigners, this is the best drink when you’ve such a hard head
-banged cuz too much spirit or drink.
And as you experienced, you can immediately feel „the heat“ after you drink jamu to woken up your body. 🤗

just started to watch and subscribe to your channel! I like the way you try to explain everything you eat 😆 very fun and good to watch! I hope you can keep making good videos for us to watch in the future~ hehe thanks for loving our country and it’s cuisine.
ps: the last gingery beverage you drink named “beras kencur”. made from mainly beras (rice) and kencur (kind of aromatic ginger/galangal, still the family of ginger 😂). also they add brown sugar to make it sweet. oh “beras kencur” is also another kind of jamu here in Indonesia

in Indonesia we called porridge is bubur sumsum, we make from a tapioka, rice flour and pandan leaf, and then lontong wrap with banana leaf. in Indonesia you can a lot food wrap with banana leaf, because many years ago we don't use plastic for cook, and banana leaf give you more tasty

It’s such a good practice. Babak from Nasi Tekor was even telling me the banana leaf prevents food poisoning

    So yummy.
Ketan : sticky rice, commonly the black one served with mung/green bean, so we called bubur kacang hijau-ketan hitam.
Lontong : rice cake commonly wrapped with banana leaves. The other forms are, ketupat/tipat which wrapped with young-yellow banana leaves and bacang/bakcang which filled with seasoned-chicken and wrapped with bamboo leaves. The unique is, bakcang form is look like a pyramide. You can find and try this.
I can't wait to get your vlogs immediately. So 👌

    Bubur Sumsum
Marrow porridge is a kind of food in the form of white porridge which is eaten with sweet sauce (brown sugar water). Made from rice flour. The name marrow porridge is taken from its bone marrow-like appearance. Usually, marrow porridge traders sell it with candil / salak seed porridge.
