We went to New York 3 months after 9/11 to pick up a cruise. That was extremely sad as they were still digging and clearing the site, what was heartbreaking was a long fence around it covered with numerous pictures and messages saying these people were missing , very very emotional.

We went up the Twin Towers 10 days before the attack. There was a young lift attendant who made my kids laugh so much. I hope he wasn’t working that day.

The vessel (22:23) is actually closed (probably permanently) because people constantly kept jumping off/committing suicide 😢 so it’s just sad that such a beautiful (and expensive) art installation basically can only be enjoyed visually.

It was the late 1990s when i went to the top of the original World Trade Center. Approaching both huge buildings side by side, looking up and up and up with my head completely tilting ever further back, it was so inspiring. I still remember the huge area in front and I can see the lobby inside. On the observation level there were cubbies where you stepped down and sat on a small seat, in front of a ceiling to floor window and it was just you and the view. There was a gift shop in the center of it all. Every time someone speaks of the museum and show the waterfall now in the foot print, it takes me back to that day and how absolutely scary and i still had family in New York. I was close to tears when you described the museum. I have gone to see the waterfall but i have not wanted to see the museum since i heard it is very powerful. 😢😢 i did see the construction going on for this new tower around 2006, that transportation hub was just a shell with construction fencing all around.

Being a NYer for many years now it’s always so enjoyable to see the city through new eyes. I thoroughly enjoyed your enjoying my city. I almost wished I was there to show you more. You definitely must return in late Spring. The concrete jungle blooms if you can imagine that 😊

I’m in the city all the time and I’ve yet to go to the memorial, I’m still not ready. I was a senior in high school living in CT and would go to the city often, a friends father died in the 2nd tower. I remember the streets covered in missing signs, so unreal. Thank you for showing this, was great to hear about your experience. ❤. Hope you had a lovely time, definitely come back when it’s warmer 😉

Thank you so much for visiting the 9/11 memorial. I think every American can remember exactly where they were when it happened (I was woken by my mom who saw it on the news after her doctor appointment). I've not been to NYC since 9/11, and I was surprised how emotional I got when you were showing what you could and giving your thoughts. Many thanks for another great vlog.

Thank you for your reflections on the 9/11 Memorial. Brought me to tears. I can’t believe it was 20+ years ago. I still remember where I was and the panic trying to check on all of my loved ones and that they were safe. Those souls, may they be at peace, and their family continue to be in my prayers.

Great vlog . My first time in New York was only a few years after 911. The buildings were still in a demolished state there is such a surreal atmosphere there where you can sense the sadness. I've since been back and visited the museum. Thanks for showing us around again I love New York.

    Hi Nick & Leigh
You guys have definitely got to go back when the weather is warmer. The Highline in the summer is at its best MAY is perfect time to visit as it’s not so hot that you can’t enjoy it. Also when you finish at the end of the highline (Chelsea Market end) you should walk to Little Island it’s a floating park on the Hudson with views over to Hoboken & down to the financial district xx

Brilliant vlog. We visited the 9/11 site and memorial museum back in 2007, and it was alot smaller than what you guys experienced as it was a temporary site at first before everything was built. 9-11 memorial I just cried and I know what you mean its surreal. I struggled with the museum term as you this of it as outside you lifetime and I remember that day so well. You could tie blue ribbons to a wall when we when in 2017. One think to mention to is they put rose on their names on their birthday on the fountain wall, we saw a family seeing this happen. Truly awful but I think it is very lovely done ❤

I got used to the subway after a couple of trips, used citymapper which is also brilliant. Also I stayed in Brooklyn whilst I was there and have friends who live there, loved exploring Brooklyn so much.
The High Line is gorgeous in the summer but when I was there it was well over 30 degrees so very sweaty but was still gorgeous. The Lobster Roll and Frozen Margs from Chelsea Market helped. Re The Vessel as far as I’m aware it’s closed to walk up because a 14 year old committed suicide there so has been closed since then to reassess the safety.

Hi Nick and Leah, recently new subscriber, first time posting. Your vlog, visiting New York came in perfect timing for us. It was wonderful thank you. My hubby Matt and I will be in New York in July for 2 nights with our son and his girlfriend. And not forgetting our dog as well. We live in Upstate New York hubby is American and I am from the UK originally. Matt and I are sailing on the Queen Mary 2 dog and all 😃for 6 months back home for me. It has been to long since I was home. How I found you guys was, once we reach Southampton we will take about 3 days to get to Scotland, it's slower with a dog but we would never leave him behind for so long. We had booked two nights in the Cotswold's and 1 night in the Lake District. Looking on TH-cam as you do and found the vlogs. Doing the Wold's. With you and Leah and your lovely Mum. I am so sorry for your loss. I have been hooked on your vlogs since. Going back and seeing older ones. Now you were in New York about 6 hours away from me. The info you guys packed in was amazing! - we are staying in Brooklyn for the 2 nights before boarding. ❤ p.s sorry for the novel.

As soon as I saw the outside of the museum in the vlog, I started crying - remembering that day and watching it all unfold. I had taken the day off work for no particular reason. First thank you for your kind words on my comment from the last video, very sweet of you. x Second...Wow, you packed in so much into one day there. NYC is one of my fave places and I so wish to go back, but it's been hard to picture the city I fell in love with in the 90s to how it is now since 9/11. Even being in Canada the news and watching the day unfold still plays in my mind as dear friends who lived and worked in the city and in the towers were trying to stay alive. Thank you for showing what you did of it. It's definitely a planned stop for when I do make it back there again.

I remember when we went up the top of the south tower on the Saturday before it came down , we enjoyed the glass covered observation floor ,but when we went up the escalator to the tippy top I’ve never been so scared as I was when the air hit me ! And I had to walk around the building to the down escalator! Scary ! It was so so sad when I saw them fall, we flew out on the Saturday night back to Manchester. So lucky for us we were home before it happened.

You really got around to a lot of the lower part of Manhattan, but of course it would be easy to spend a whole week just in that area. I I have not been to New York since 9/11, and I can imagine what a profound experience the 9/11 memorial must be. I think it was on the third trip I took to New York that we went up to the top of the World Trade Center, only a few months after it had opened in 1973. Knowing I had been in the building that was destroyed in such a horrific way made the attacks hit home even more than it would have otherwise.

Thank you for visiting the 9/11 remembrance tower. It was touching to hear your thoughts about it. I remember that day so well. I lived in Kansas City, not there, but I worried about my young children in their grade school: What if the terrorists are everywhere? Even there? The Pentagon was attacked. I served 10 years in the Air Force and that seemed unbelievable to me that they could attack the Pentagon. So I felt no place was safe from them. It took a very long time to get past that.

Amazing vlog guys, this brings back so much emotions when I visited last April especially the 9/11 memorial. I thought New York would be a one and done visit but I completely fell in love with the city and visiting again this November. Can’t wait for the rest of the vlogs

New York in summer is miserably hot. Its all concrete so the heat just bakes you like an oven. I grew up in FL and live in Atlanta and trust me, I have NEVER been hotter than New York in summer. Spring and Fall are the times to go.

The 9/11 tribute was tough for me. I lived in NJ the day that happened. It was a beautiful day! The sky was so blue. I will never forget that color. There were people stuck on the highway and parking lots trying to get back to NY from NJ. We lived under the landing path for Newark. We were so used to hearing planes, and it was so quiet and surreal. We could see the smoke from where we lived in NJ.

We stayed in the Metro hotel 2008, I remember it was close to Empire State & Macey's. Now when I type it in your hotel comes up 😮 I remember it being a lovely hotel & wondering if it is the same hotel? I've got a photo of me rubbing the gold bull for luck (not suitable due to what I was rubbing) 😂😂 love reminiscing through your vlogs. We also stayed in the Wellington, the other end of Times Square x

How does the Curve work with the Subway ? Haven't used it abroad before, but thought you could only use it fee free to withdraw cash.
