      Not really. If you have lived or you are from Europe almost everybody speaks at least 2,3 or more languages. Closest languages like Spanish, Portuguese or Italian are easy to learn and practice. French is a little bit more complicated to speak for the pronunciation but they also do speak Italian, even English and German.

      @@andrewrogers1838 The bad reputation of French people comes mainly from parisians. They have a reputation of being rude just like New Yorkers. But if you greet them, say at least Bonjour, Parlez vous anglais, italien will have no problem to help you or talk you back in english, Italian or what ever if they know and talk a little bit of the other language. French people in the south they might even talk in italian because they live close to an Italian town and vice versa. French people are more cold even distant in the north. Paris is like another planet to most French people, some of them they don’t like them. But it is just like NY or LA to most rural Americans. Italian people are very warm, talk very fast, very friendly, love to share things that contrast with the shy, introverted, paused way of the French. Plus you have to understand that most European countries have old wounds from old wars and occupations specially from France, Germany and Russia. My wife is from Lithuania and she doesn’t like either Germans or Russians. Doesn’t matter it happened ten, a hundred or five hundred years ago there is always that resentment. It is all over Europe.
      Most European people they recognize for example that Italian food is the best even French and Spaniards. They also have great food. But you will never take a word of an Italian or a French in front of each other. They are equally prideful and chauvinistic. Even there is no more frontiers between them.

    My father’s parents were immigrants from Sicily. Both of my parents and I were born and raised in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Little Italy was a large, booming community! Italian immigrants lived and worked together, replicated their way of life- including food, trades, stores- in the Lower East Side of Manhattan! After a few generations, though, people moved into “suburban sprawls” to buy homes, etc. I’m so glad that I caught the tail-end of what was a glorious, authentic, Italian-American immigrant experience! I wish you could have experienced it too, Alessio. It was really, really something special. Glad to see Casa D’Angelo carrying it on.

    • @Chet73

      Don't comment on things you know nothing about.
      It has nothing to do with the tax system. It had to do with history, how the south was forcibly annexed to the north. It has to do with more than a century of propaganda representing the south as freeloaders. It has to do with more than a century of the North systematically raping the South of its resources and manpower and then blaming the South for its problems. It has to do with the north aiding and abetting the mafia.

Tea & Sympathy on Greenwich Ave and 13th Street is an authentic British tea shop and restaurant selling British candies and snacks. You could get a couple British chocolates and snacks and do a vid comparing them to Italian ones! There's also Myers of Keswick which sells meat pies and snacks as well.

    What's also strange is that I have friends that are Greek and Middle Eastern; even though I am Italian , people who don't know us assume we are all family because of similar features and coloring. We also get together to cook, and we cook certain recipes with the same ingredients. What was even funnier was my Swedish mother in law gets in act quite well with certain foods

    • @yokoakimura
      @yokoakimura ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It is not so strange. People think Italians are “white” and “European” like that is supposed to be a definitive distinction that likens all European countries together, but Italy is very much a Mediterranean country, and had a lot of history/trade with the Middle East and Northern Africa. The British isles are going to have more of that northern Viking influence although the Roman influence is definitely there, and they have that cold weather and potatoes culture like a lot of the Northern European states

      @patriciamartin6756 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. You are absolutely right. I noticed something strange though. Because my husband is Swedish, I thought I would take a stab at learning Swedish! I was baking the other day, and without thinking, I started using some food words in Italian aloud and when my mother in law heard me, she understood it when I told her "Cinnamon Roll even though she her Italian is non existent. Latin came into usages in Sweden in the 1600 so I assume Swedish got some of it's root words from Latin

    Sarò a New York per la prima volta il prossimo weekend e sto annotando tutti i posti dove siete andati.
    Voi dovete venire assolutamente a toronto dove c’è una grandissima comunità italiana e dove ci sono dei posti fantastici dove mangiare e anche dove comprare cose italiane. Vi aspettiamo

    I lived in Friuli for 4 years for work. I traveled all over Italy but Friuli is my favorite! I lived in Fontanafredda, loved it there.

    You should come to Providence RI, as we have the biggest (per capita) Italian population in the US. I don’t speak Italian, but as a Spanish speaker, I can identify it easily. There’s at least one bakery here were the workers do speak it openly.❤

    I love it! Great video! I could hear the collection of “mob hits” playing in the background. I always put on my CD’s when I’m in the mood for some of my family’s homemade Bagna Cauda sauce.

    Once a guy from Napoli told me "I'm not Italian, I'm Napolitano" and I'm here thinking 🤔 do you believe Napoli is a separate country? You're Napolitano because you're specifically from Napoli but you're Italian. These guys saying a few times they're Napolitano made me think back on it and I wonder if they also see being Napolitano as just that and don't consider themselves Italian. Can anyone explain this, please!

      I have Sardinian ancestors but not Italian. The nationality is Italian but the genetics are just Sardinian. I know there are other places like that in Italy but don’t know if Napoli is one of them.

      Naples was not part of Italy until recently,(1860s). It, along with Sicily, was under Spanish control for a spell. The Italian Peninsula, as Europe in general, is very regional. People speak in different dialects, and some, like Sicilian, and Sardinian, are definitive languages, which are Latin derived, but not Italian. Napolitanese is quite different from what is spoken in Milan, Florence or Venice.

    Il Cortile is amazing too. They'll make anything you want, even if it's not on the menu. But the menu is huge.

    If you're ever up in New England I definitely recommend Federal Hill in Providence, Rhode Island... No offense to all of the big cities with a "Little Italy" but this tiny state does it the best! 😂

    Thank you for this video! Normally when I visit Little Italy, I only go to Ferrera’s, D’Adosta (I realize I probably misspelled that sorry fellow New Yorkers) and that is it. Most of the menus there are Americanized and it is overpriced (though there is a historic Italian American spot I want to visit-Vincenzo’s and that should be worth it.). But I have been disappointed that I cannot find authentic Italian like I could in Boston’s North End. I am not Italian or Italian American but I have visited Italy and love the real deal food. I am going to stop by that restaurant you tried and give Little Italy another chance. I am sorry you had a rude experience at Allevia. I shopped there once and I did find and the cheese was exceptional and now they are gone (COVID messed them up). However, I like Little Italy and I have some go to’s. Once again, thank you for this video. I am sure it is helpful to me and others watching it
