I main Kirby because he's one of my favorite franchises. That's what people should do. Play a character from a game they seriously love. I'm not doing very well in Smash, especially Melee, but I really hope to get better
One things you are extremely wrong about - Kirby's grab range. It's actually above Roy's and right below Marth's (test it out). Plus he actually has a better shield grab than Marth since he has a higher traction and superior shield. There's a few other wrong things here but overall you did Kirby justice.
well, its because he isn't top tier, which is why kira is biased on the consensus that Kirby is bad that his positives are barely any good.

Many combos? Im sorry bro, but do we play the same smash game? Kirby has barely any combos. The only one is his down throw which is good and can tech chase and his WOP back air but both are less effective because he has slow air speed and ground speed.

Whenever i play kirby i use his crouch and i bassically get pushed barely like a 120% im ussually like is it just me or because ur crouching it tries to force u to stay crouching... plus kirby is my main because he has been my favorite since i got a gameboy or got a game atleast i dont remember but in my heart he will always be one of my true mains
You're crouch canceling, which might be the reason why you are barely getting punished. Crouch canceling negates knockback of moves

I think they actually buffed Ness from ssb64. I mean I haven't played much Ness in any smash game, but from what I remember he was atrocious in ssb64
+Chris Overstreet He was originally regarded to be a high-tier in 64, but then we realized how terrible his range and recovery was.
Kirby is my main however the options at the start are all wrong, I think Kirby is by far the best character to exist in super smash bros, it doesn't matter which game. I am a beginner at fighting as Kirby however I have easily taken out level 9 difficulty NPCs with Kirby and I have not been able to do so with any other characters. (I am not talking about smash 64.)
Kirby is one of the absolute worst characters in the game my man, beating lvl 9s can be done with any character. The CPU's in the game are completely predictable and therefor exploitable. It's debatable about exactly where he lands, but I currently see Kirby as the 3rd worst character in Super Smash Bros. Melee.
I understand that Kirby is not that good at super smash bros melee however, I believe that if you learn how to play as Kirby then he becomes much easier to play as. He is my favourite character because I feel much more comfortable playing as him and in MY opinion, he IS the best character.
Irrelevant. Kirby being bad is beyond opinion. A character like fox outshines him in every category. Don't misunderstand, if you like playing as Kirby, go for it. However, separate fun from viability.
Some people are good at Kirby and some are not. Besides, I suck at fox anyway, can't win a single match with him.

bear in mind recovery isn't always about distance either; having a lot of options is incredibly important
kirby has a small amount of different options; kirby has many different ways to try and get on stage, but they're all countered very easily and they can be covered almost all at once
falco, on the other hand, has a lot of different options; fire bird with a ton of angles, falco phantasm that can be shortened, shine stalling, and a walljump.
Falco doesn't even have the worst recovery out of the viable characters lmao. He has more options than Sheik does.

I was speaking distance wise, if kirby does forward air after each double jumps like in 64, drifts and wait to double jump again, he can actually cover much more distance than falco.
Falco's note on his recovery was judged in term of distance when compared to fox's, I thought it was only fair to compare the two distance wise.
I have a feeling that a fair amount of Kirby mains play him primarily because they want to win with the supposed worst character in the game.

Just looking Kirby within the context of Melee, playing as Kirby in Melee is the equivalent to a "NES Hard" game. It's insanely challenging and rather unfair for you if you choose to play Kirby, but if you're amazing enough and thanks to Melee's amazing core gameplay, Kirby can be a force to be reckoned with. Someone, somewhere has a threatening Kirby, and if that player learns more about him like Amsa did with Yoshi or Axe with Pikachu, Kirby can stop sucking and start exhaling to victory.
He's not the best, but he''s so infamously bad that maybe he's overlooked.
The thing is Kirbys recovery is extremely exploitable and unlike Yoshi and Pika you cant just simply wing it and win with skill, Kirby requires little skill but good reading ability more than them since he has very little things to guarantee follow ups. Hes not the worst character in the game imo but anybody whos good can utulize a certain character to differing potentials and sadly Kirbys highest potential barely scores him as a mid tier if lucky. Well be graced to see if a Kirby ever makes Top 8 in a Major with the current or future meta.
lol wtf his suicide strats are super bad, they're not the things that make him good lol, and if you want to use ground hammer, just charge a smash attack
ludvig4 His suicide ability lets him even out the game if he has more percent racked up if he goes for the opportunity and if he has the lead he could potentially suicide to victory, but its a rare thing since people are aware of this and they can choose not to break out of inhale so you might fall as well. Also if you end up getting a KO if you can suicide with your opponent youll be a stock ahead. His hammer can kill at high percents but only with reads like I stated, F-smash is odviously better for generally launching them off and being faster but probably wont kill even partially charged.
yeah but the inhale is super predictable, and the 2 of the 3 suicide grabs can be mashed out of. Upthrow is the only good suicide move, but requires you to have a lead.
There are some characters than can be inhaled easily due to having a fixed recovery like Falcon as an example but most of the time its better just to D-air. I dont remember bringing up his side throws since they do absolutely nothing in the competitive scene since everyone WILL break out of them. Instead of using smash attacks his B-air works way better (assuming its not too staled) its almost instant and has a lot of knockback, plus U-air can kill if high enough on the screen. Well thats all I got for the discussion, I dont think I do amazing but it seems to work for me in just random matches for fun.

Up until this year the only smash game I'd played was the N64 (I know, I'm a LITTLE behind) and I was REALLY good at it. My main was Kirby and I loved him. When I finally got round to playing melee this year my heart was broken.

By being the worst character in the game, people thought they should try playing a shit character. They actually played him to the point of finding new techniques.
That's also how Peach became B (or C tier I think) to A Tier thanks to Armada's discovery of Instant Float Cancel. Similarly, how Yoshi jumped out quite a few spots thanks to the pioneering genius that was aMSa: discovering dj armor, parrying and his insane use of eggs as both a combo and kill-setups..

Thank you SSBM Tutorials for shedding some light on Kirbys effectiveness. I only pocket him and do pretty well he has lots of great tools. Also the Samus matchup isnt completely hopeless since missiles and grabs are harder to land, not to mention you can also use the charge beam against Samus. Hes easy to use but relies on a decent amount of reads but not as heavy with them as bowser.
FYI: KirbyRaeg has been going by the name SlayerS BoneR 420 in Norcal for a while before he moved to New York lol

The real problem vs Peach and Samus is when they play a very solid grounded style and camp. You might be able to get chips through bair OoS or really good ftilt spacing but you have to win neutral so many more times as a character with a worse neutral in almost every way. You actually have a few tools quite good for dealing with CC, but even some of these "slower" floaties outmaneuver you with little effort, so hitting them while they try to outspace (or just run away from) you while also dealing with ASDI down is a pain.
