Wow, u were so simple! Can’t believe how easy it was to check if the water pump was working and how to bleed the coolant. Great job
thank you excellent video but you have to wonder what BMW was thinking when they put a electric water pump and thermostat where it is located at and how difficult it is to replace and on top of all that there's no oil dipstick
It's designed like that so you take it to the dealer. 'Designed Obsolescence,' is the thinking behind it. Not to mention no spare wheel.
They do that kinda thing so you will want to take it to a dealer to get it repaired. Every mechanic in my area says "what kinda car you have?" I say a BMW...they say "sorry we don't work on BMW's"
The fact of the matter is, even BMW mechanics hate working on BMWs.
I like how you kept it simple and used laymen terms.
BMW 528XI 2008 blowing cold air when heater starts, have done this today as per the instructions. strted the heater and woow....it took only a minute to feel the heat inside the car....my car heater is back to normal thanks for the video it saves me hassle and money to visit the BMW service center ....keep the good work going on..
Dude, thank you so much for the video. I think my water pump shit the bed yesterday. Got the yellow coolant temp light, kept driving slowly and then got the red light. Drove about 3 more blocks and shut it off.

Ive came up with an overflow tank system like you find on 99% of other vehicles. It's working so far and my car is running cooler too. Not a daily E46
Keep doing BMW tricks of the trade or whatever different abilities they have
I did this as well and had no issues with the battery but I did turn the headlights off. In addition there is no reason to disconnect the battery nor leave the cap off.

My car overheated on me while driving as well. I have an 06 330i. Was water pump. Was still under warranty but it came up to 1067 to fix. New pump and thermostat. Do not drive car if it overheats pullover and call a tow. If you crack that head you're in a heap on crap.

Dude you ever seen or heard of the fan throwing off all its blades cuz mine had like a crackling noise as if the belt tensioner s were bad I slightly reved it and it blew all the blades pop hole in radiator but noise stoped

The exclamation mark has nothing to do with the water pump test. Its a signal that the car door is open while the car is switched on.
Hi mate. My car keeps letting out my coolant when I'm driving. I'm not over heating. My oil is fine (digital reading don't trust it) my AC works, my fan works, not signs of head gasket trouble on my oil cap. I did your water pump test and mine is work according to your video. I replaced the expansion cap. What could be wrong?

My 2008 3e90 318i seems to be super hot when driving it, with main pipe underneath left black pipe cold and right hand black pipe super hot? Any remedies pleasE. . .?
My water pump would never activate to bleed the system after replacing thermostat. The car never over heats though. Do you think it's the main water pump needs to be replaced or the auxiliary water pump? Thanks!
I bought a 2008 535i recently and the fan blades broke completely apart leaving the fan sroud. I'm trying to replace it but it's very expensive. Can I use a universal fan instead?
My car ran hot on me about 2 weeks ago since the you can drive for quite a while sometimes other times dont take long at all but the yellow temp light will come on then the red one will come on then after a min or so it will go back to yellow come out of limp mode and go back to running properly then it will repeat the same thing again any suggestions

My 335xi is overheating as soon as i start the car fan come on LOUD, after seeing this i am going to test the pump now. Hope it will comes on and i just maybe need coolant...

hey i have a 2006 bmw 330i i have changed the thermostat and both temp fan sensors and the car still over heats what do you think my problem is? my fan starts really loud when it does
what if you do that and the water come out little by little but it's not running like yours is running?

Hey man I have a 2007 335i and whenever I start it it stutters for a couple seconds and after driving for awhile it overheats and then misfires and throws misfire code but no overheating code what could it be?

Please can you tell me, if I make only a test on my 530i if water pump function or not and dont want to wait 12 minutes...how can I stop the bleeding test? What happen if I simply start the engine and drive away? :) is that a problem?

Hi , I tried following your procedure but looks like I help the accelerator too long. Now the car won't start and all sorts of error codes are appearing for abs, tyre pressure, etc. I obviously did something wrong. How to I reset or reverse what I did. Also how long till car rests itself or do I need to erase codes though old connector. Any help please will be great.

I have a 2008 X5. The fan motor has kicked into warp speed. I have tested the water pump and it is working fine, I have tested the temperature sensor and it is working fine, the thermostat closes at 84 degrees and opens back up at 74 degrees. Not sure what else to try? Coolant level is at Max as well. I reset all the codes and still no luck. Any advise, thanks so much

It could be a lot of things. Radiator leak, temperature sensor, water pump, thermostat, and more
I have a 2006 bmw 325i . Today it overheated for the first time. I pulled over and looked under the hood and there was water/ antifreeze all over the cooling system ? I was unable to see any broken hose looking over the engine. Do you think it's the thermostat or water pump? Pleas help ?
06 325i's are notorious for electronic water pump failure. Do this test and if there is no bleeding then you have a dead pump. Average cost: around $1000
Nice, but it doesn't work on my e90 318i (130 HP, 4 cylinder version). Probably because there is no such electric water pump for this model?

when its squrting (bleeding) so i should let it run for a while ? when it stops squrting i can put cap on back and start driving ?

does the same apply for e53 x5? It overheats immediately and splashes all the coolant out. Also it makes a weird noise like whistle when cold. Overheats when driving slow or stopped

I will recommend replacing your thermostat.if you bled out your system it means your water pump is working.

my red stick broke off and went down into the water box. Now it seems the box always needs water or coolant. Is this a problem? the car has never run hot, but it did come up low coolant.

I did this and my pump sounded like it was going on then off. Should it be a constant flow? My car is running hot and shutting off. I have not noticed and leak. Will this still work if your water pump is shot?
My 06 525i did the same thing. It cycled on and off for 12 mins.

mustang veteran Autozone should have some just look for the coolant for import cars with blue coolant, 50/50
They should have it last time I checked they had some for bmw cars.

If you replaced your radiator and the car keeps overheating then you probably need to change the water pump and thermostat.
If at a stop that's the fan that's the issue not the pump.
