I’ve done this job a couple of times and never had to turn the headlights on , I don’t have a charger either I just hook the car up to another running car via jump leads and activate the self bleed with heaters full heat on low blower and press gas pedal for 10 secs , 12 mins and done , no need for lights to be on or some fancy charger
couldn't a short, blown fuse cause the bleed procedure to fail. my code is lost communication to water pump. wondering how do you test voltage at the waterpump itself. test the connector and the water pump leads?
@@wavybump Probably a broken ground screw/bolt near the water pump. Common problem on N52, N54, and N55. Check google for pictures and location. Replacement bolt is M8x20mm
Great information. Would be nice if you turned on a little more light when shooting down the overflow tank, because it’s hard to see with such little light. Other than that great video. Thanks for sharing!
I have an 07 E66 750LI I did the test and it does not pump any water I just replaced the thermostat and water pump with new ones and it still not working. When I start the car it does cycle the water can the electric water pump itself be bad? Is the electric water pump just for this test or does it also run during operation? I do hear it trying to turn on and then just a clunk sound kind of.
Tried this procedure on my 10 335i xdrive,,cooling fan kicks on wide open,,so can't hear pump running. By the way motor hasn't been ran for a day. So why is cooling fan ki king on????
can we get that message and the faillure come from the thermostat ? i change the pump 3 times in 3 years with the same thermostat and i have the message again with the msg on the board telling me that the engin is too hot... i didn't buy the thermostat from BMW but the 2 pumps i brought are genuine thanks in advance for helping me
@@mcxr811 i've change the thermostat and the pump but i think it was a electric problem too... the 3 pumps i changed get hit after i go washing my car... the message stays for 5 months then the pump stop working (...du to blockage message)
ok please help 2008 BMW 328i..when i did this test my headlites stayed on even if i never started the car .......and it ran my battery down.. So, i only heard the pump come on one or twice in ten mins..ALSo, it said to PUSH THE START BUTTON..u did not mention that but it said DO NOT START CAR, or put foot on brake -just press START BUTTON after foot on pedal for 10 secs.. THE other issue is the waterpump is new and doesnt seem to be on all the time..how many times should the electric water pump come onn and off in ten mins... MAybe it wouldnt come on as my battery was going dead.. WHY are my headlites on ..they were in OFF position..COULD my daylite running lites be on? ALSo, i had too much coolant and took some out with TURKEY BASTER..does that mean i have to BLEED coolant again? maybe the turkey baster allowed air into resevior??????? any HELp appreciated. .also should CAP BE ON w/bleeder screw CLOSED? THANK U
Mine just stopped working, no warning, no lights came on. Well the warning sign is the oil temp way up there 280 F. Stranded on Hwy-80. And why is it plastic?
My 335i n54 water pump stops and dont do nothing ,15 minutes engine on and fan comes fast and then the engine heat signal show in panel ,i think is dead ,no pulse
It drains the battery. If it's very hot, it can run for a short period. To avoid running the water pump, let your car idle for 5 minutes so it cools down a bit before turning off the engine.
Have a 2014 x5 35i xdrive, the water pump runs while vehicle is off, replaced Both batteries thinking it was the batteries, got them registered twice. Drove fine for 5 days, then electric pump started running while vehicle is off at night draining the batteries, took it to the dealership paid for a diagnostic, but sins the batteries had been drained they told me to drive it. "Still got charged" for the diagnostic. Well drove it and now the vehicle is drained again! Called the dealer and told me they cannot or will not be able to figure out whats wrong with it sins the batteries are drained for the third time. So dealership is pretty much charging every time for a diagnostic even though nothing shows up on there scanner. Im at a stuck point, vehicle is drained and is just parked. It has no check engine lights on neither does it run hot. Its my wife's dream car, and seeing her upset makes me upset. At this point i am Really disappointed in bmw, it is a expensive and expensive to maintain it as well. Barely hit 90xxx miles its 7 years old & there should be no reason for this Expensive vehicle to doing this. Expensive vehicle but cheap parts that cost a fortune!! Have atleast a total of $1600 in the vehicle with batteries included!! I am Very Disappointed!!
They charge you multiple diagnostic fees for the same thing. Wow. The first time my water pump failed was around 60k miles. The dealer said the alternator also is bad because it was overworked due to a problem with the failed water pump. Water pump, thermostat, alternator replaced: $5300. I remember the alternator alone was $1000!! Just the part.

I need assistance- so on my 2015 bmw x1 xdrive35i E84- when I do the bleeding procedure - it won't stop I went as far as 20 min and still running?
Can you take the coolant cap off, cold start a cold car and watch the water flow in the coolant tank and turn off the car before it gets hot?

Dorman has an upgraded water pump made of metal for under $300. it's received positive reviews so far

I guess I need a battery charger because mine didn't bleed but when I start my car I see the coolant bleeding
What happens if the water pump runs while the vehicle while the vehicle is off?

mine bleeds the whole 12 mins without the charger, just battery. it has never failed even once
No, you dont need a "fancy" battery charger for this procedure. Done it multiple times. Just run your battery if its still decent
This guy gave me a headache. No way he touches my car.
If you running bleed procedure just throw a jump box it so battery doesn't die..
No special battery charger needed maybe on a i8 but not no x5 junk
dont works on bmw m4 s55
How do I the problem is the water pump? What if it isn't getting power? How do I test that?
