It’s crazy how one bad season got Matt booted from the team the switch up is crazy but I remember being a kid switching up and hating him to when he started throwing a lot of picks
To answer your unanswered question: Schaub’s downfall was primarily his lis franc injury that took him out of 2011. It’s commonly seen as a career ender, and while he held up in 2012, his arm strength just continued to deteriorate, and we saw the results in 2013. Great QB, sad ending. Fuck Albert Haynesworth
Peyton Manning wanted to come to the Texans, but Kubiak said no. I swear, everyone apparently loved Kubiak, but he was the epitome of a mediocre coach.
I remember going to the Texans vs. Rams game during 2013 and witnessing fans cheering when Schaub got hurt again that was the worst ever game I believe to this day I ever went to
man what i was also at that game. my dad was so disappointed in our fans. ts was tragic. and getting to see alec ogletrees pic six on us mad it worse 😂
@homemadehighlights2511 I knew there was no hope left for that team after that game little did everyone know that it would end up being a 14 game losing streak
Schaub was great against mediocre teams with the texans ... in any game against superbowl contenders he couldnt compete and find a way to blow the game. He did this all the way until he threw pic 6s outta town.
@SlovakChestnut12233 the ONE year we went 12-4 , you are correct. Then we got absolutely slaughtered against the patriots in the playoffs. And out of the 6 years he played with the texans , those are probably his only notable wins. He was mediocre at best.
Its crazy because from the sound of it it sounds like we’re around the same age and started watching the Texans around the same time 😂 those early matt schaub days were good times fr
If Matt Schaub didn't get Injured in that 2011 Season we would probably made it to the AFC championship maybe a Superbowl, wouldn't have even cared if we Lost il
I don't know why Texans fans keep saying "If we had Matt Schaub during the 2011 season, we would have made the Super Bowl", worst case scenario we lose to the Ravens again, best case scenario we get slaughtered against the Patriots.
I was at the Jags Game.. I'm actually in that camera shot somewhere when they are tackling him. I'm never going to curse the team by going to a game again.
"No one talks about Schaub anymore" That's cause no one really talked about him while he was in the league. His O line was awful and the only thing that kept him as a starter was the Ol Hail Mary to Andre or hoping JJ scored a defensive touchdown. Also....Flacco has a superbowl ring....
Nice summary of the up the hill, down the hill moments of Matt Schaub as a Houston Texan. I think - now with the passage of time - most people remember Matt and Gary more fondly than they did when the wheels came off. The boot legs and the blocking scheme were a brilliant move - and the combination of JJ, Andrea, and Arian - what's not to like. The way they won felt magical at times. That said, the league caught up to the scheme, and injuries and age have a way of changing things in a hurry. I hesitate to suggest that with CJ, that mgic feels like it's back - and if we had Arian, Andrea, and JJ on this team - well, one can dream. Perhaps this current roster will be that good. We will have to wait and see. Till then, Gary and Matt will be watching from afar and wondering what could have been.
The way I see it, Schaub was a system guy. I always remember people calling him a "rythum qb", but if you think about it nowadays, it just means he was a system qb. When kubiak was in the defense head, he was amazing, when he wasn't, he'd throw it 15 yards over the giant of a man that is andre Johnson.
Jets fan here, and that team wrecks every QB they have. Bad O Line got Chads shoulder shredded to the point he couldn’t even throw a ball 10 yards. Then they drop him for Favre and Chad promptly goes to the Dolphins and lights it up gets CBPOY.
Think it was the amount of injuries that were piled up that made him regress so much in 2013, but regardless he’s still one of the greatest in Franchise History 💀definitely a better Tenure then Watson
Also, it seemed like the entire city of Houston rejoiced when the cameras cut to the sidelines and show Andre Johnson bitching out Matt Schaub. 2013 was really something else
That Lisfranc injury killed Schaub’s career. Even though he made a Pro Bowl the following year after the injury you could tell he really lost his confidence by the way he played, He seemed very timid and afraid to get take a hit and it would led to him throwing bad passes or an interception.
Facts i vividly remember my uncle and dad raging about how timit he used to play😂😂shit was a rough watch by week 6 in 2013 i was over it i was ready for him to gtf out of here😭
Nice video. Not a Texans fan, but I remember liking Schaub actually. I still remember that game early in his career as a Falcon where he filled in for Michael Vick in Atlanta against the Patriots in 2005, and played pretty well. Wasn't a surprise that the Texans went after him. I'm not sure what happened exactly either, but I'm going to guess it was a combination of confidence lost like you stated in addition to just getting older/prior injuries piling up. There are a few other decent quarterbacks around the same time that fell off either due to just age or injuries catching up. Marc Bulger, Jake Delhomme, and Aaron Brooks seemingly went from decent starters to unplayable in the blink of an eye in the mid to late 2000's. Shame it didn't work out for Texans fans, because he wasn't really that old when he hit the wall. Like someone else said, he never seemed to step up against really good teams. But he provided some good times for the fanbase, and was the first QB in the franchise to actually play competent ball.
2010 defense was so bad because Frank Bush was the defensive coordinator. Dude was so bad they fired him immediately after 1 season then hired wade Phillips.
I remember this was the first year I worked on Sundays and the world was falling apart. I was like woah woah woah woah what going on??? During the Oakland game I asked my dad what happend he said schaub cake in and he did alright, it ended in a pick tho, but he brought us back in a quarter. He left to bring soda and came back cussing out schaub, the radio got to him. I was like nah u let the media brain wash u! U saw what u saw and y came back with a changed mind
He is statistically still the best Texans qb 🤷♂️ Watson had the chance to be the best but we all know how that played out. Stroud should pass schaub, but schaub still deserves some kind of recognition.
Schaub was a typical WCO execute the offense QB like Kirk Cousins but if a defense had the right call he had trouble. Shaub started the year 2013 well throwing 6TD to 3 int But one was a horrible pick six against tennesse the texans managed to overcome in a win Then his downfall started when the threw an pick 6 that was the difference against the Ravens, he followed that up with a game losing pick 6 to Richard Sherman then seeing ghosts threw a pick 6 on his first pass against the 49ers and 2 more INT to seal the deal then against the Rams he was overly cautious and got benched for Yates. Then the next game for Keenum The reality was that he just faced 4 of the NFLs best defenses 4 weeks in a row and nothing was wrong with him but his confidence was shot and by the team he recovered and got another chance he was 34
Schaub does not get enough credit for the positives he brought to the Texans. Even Peyton and many others had “noodle arm” syndrome at the end of their careers. Not Schaub’s fault.
David car wasn't the problem. You guys need to research more or go back and watch those games because a lot of you young cats be saying stuff not knowing what was really doing on.

Cheap shot by Fat Al. Schaub was downhill ever since.
The lis franc injury becomes chronic. With overuse, Schaub couldn't step into his throws, so it appeared that he lost arm strength.
As a Falcons fan Matt Schaub made me like the Texans. I don't know why he was so disrespected
He was good, but he was also a notorious choker and struggled against good teams.

he wasn’t that good chill

2010 was just a year where we couldnt close out games. Lots of close games that we coulent close out
That 2010 season was frustrating. We lost a lot of tight games late in the 4th. I remember like if it were yesterday.
2009 was even worse, we lost 2 games by fumbling on the goaline.

David Carr got a ring as Eli’s backup so despite getting clobbered it worked out ok for him

Soon as you said you were a Texans fan, I subbed 🤘🏾 this video was good afterwards too tho 💪🏾
Flacco didn’t retire. Nobody picked him up out of free agency until last year when desperation and lack of options landed him another shot.

Matt schaub was a top 5 QB in NFL for solid 2 seasons.
was the passing leader one of those years and holds the tied record for second most passing yards in a game
I wouldn't say that. his peak coincided with peaks of Brady, Rodgers, Manning, Brees, Roethlisberger, Romo, Palmer, Rivers.

He was never very good, never reliable, never felt like the Texans could make a real run at the helm. That Pro Bowl nod was insane.
The level of comp got better in 2013 and that’s what truly exposed Scaub as a Qb
Great video bro, but he ain't ROH material.
