He, as well as myself, absolutely loved you and your channel! We would literally bingewatch your Old Hollywood Scandals Stories. I'd read on the web that Motown realized while recording that solo album that Wanda was just too unpredictable to sustain as a solo act. That's why they decided to retitle it as "The Return of The Marvelettes"as opposed to marketing Wanda solo (she may also have been pregnant around that time)
    But when they tried to call Katherine and Ann back in, they wanted no parts of it, so the label got two models to pose with Wanda on the cover with their faces hidden so fans wouldn't know that only Wanda had sang on the album. It's actually okay. There were a lot of cover songs, but Wanda Young did a good job- she really did have a great voice

      When did they actually fade? In 1961, when "Please Mr. Postman" by the Marvelettes was released, I was in third grade. From then on, (Marvelettes and other groups were played in our house) until I graduated high school in 1971, I HEARD A MARVELETTES' HIT EVERY SINGLE YEAR. When Motown moved to Los Angeles in 1972, that's when I didn't hear any more Marvelettes' songs. I don't know who FORGOT THEM. My family and friends didn't. Now as far as finances go, I don't know about that, I don't know about their contractual situation. But I can say they were NOT "unsung" and "underrated." I'll never forget my sister's "sweet sixteen" birthday party in 1967....December 27th......we were playing a new Marvelettes' release "My Baby Must Be A Magician" (Wanda Rogers, lead vocals) with a booming bass intro by the one and only greatest bass in the world, Tempts' Melvin Franklin !!! That always stood in my mind that the group was called "country" because I come from a suburb of Chicago and we were also considered "country"! But really, the Marvelettes are one of Motown's most fascinating groups. You can literally see them grow up from their youthful, teenage look into some really stunningly beautiful _women_. Much is made of the Supremes' glam look, but what really impresses me with the Marvelettes is that in their publicity photos from 1966 onward, those women were GORGEOUS and had nailed the glam look down. If you can't tell, the Marvelettes is my favorite group- hands down.

    I was really afraid to watch this video. The Marvelettes are my all-time, absolute favorite group- Motown or any other label and can't nobody say ANYTHING bad about my group, lol. But wow! This is the best thing I've seen in years on the group- how do you do it? Spilling the tea but not in a trashy way at all. Giving the group their dues, especially when you talked about "Please Mr. Postman" being Motown's first number one record- not just on the black charts, but also on the "pop" charts. That record was the one that gave Motown the clout to finally get over the hump. That record gave Motown the weapon it needed to get money from distributors who owed them, and being that Motown was still a new company, this record also gave them status. OK, I'm a life-long subscriber as of THIS VERY SECOND. Thank you so much for putting these ladies in the spotlight and for doing an incredible job on ALL of your videos.

    The Marvelettes 1967 album, aka The Pink Album, also featured a top 25 pop hit, "Young and In Love". Their final hit made the pop top 20, "My Baby Must Be A Magician" with Melvin Franklin's spoken intro. I enjoyed the video but that was quite a story about Wanda Young.

    They fell apart because they were tossed aside. That was beyond wrong. That’s gratitude for a group who were the first to give Berry Gordy what he wanted: his first major pop hit. I read their book. Katherine Anderson basically described Juanita (Wyanetta) Cowart as having a breakdown. Aside from the hectic schedule, when they made a tv appearance Juanita accidentally described Detroit as a suburb of Inkster. Katherine said that Juanita was teased mercilessly. She was made to feel bad about what she said. She really took it to heart.

      @michellekirkendall818 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Alexandra Dillard: At what point were they tossed aside? I've said this more than once. Many of you were NOT BORN in this era of black music. Though not a problem, you're not being encouraged to research the topic! You're simply believing the gossip! The group didn't move to Los Angeles when Motown Records moved in 1972. I remember our family listening to The Marvelettes from 1961, when I was in third grade; until I graduated high school in 1971 ! When were they just tossed aside? I remember Marvelettes' hits throughout my life!

    • @michellekirkendall818
      @michellekirkendall818 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Alexandra Dillard: The other day, someone mentioned Wanda Young Rogers "partying" cut her career short. Ms. Rogers witnessed the shooting death of her sister (mistaken identity). She battled alcoholism and substance abuse for many years. She was married to Bobby Rogers of The Miracles. He complained that coming off the road, he often found his wife under the influence, unfit to care for their two children. He divorced her; got sole custody of the children. There is a lot of material on them. And, the worse thing is when "victimhood" is promoted. This group was NEVER "unsung" or "underrated."

    #FUNFACT (well not so fun). The Middle School (Fellrath) was across the way from the house where Wanda's sister was shot. My mom told me that it took a while for them to wipe the blood splatter off the house and front door. She used to see this everyday on the way to middle school. The school is torn down but the house is still standing on Beech street.

    You're very talented and do a great job at conveying the life stories of past and present notables. As a child, Wanda was a resident in my Northwest Detroit Community. At that time she lived with a significant other by the name of Ralph (Black Ralph). He was a former up-and-coming boxer in his youth. However, it was apparent that both were battling the dreadful disease of addiction. Wanda would walk down the neighborhood streets singing and doing dances. She was a treasure of sorts-no one bothered her. As a child, I had a great deal of empathy for her-I didn't know why at that time. She was ALWAYS nice towards me and I don't recall her bothering anyone. Her home still stands and is occupied at the present moment.

    • @michellekirkendall818
      @michellekirkendall818 ปีที่แล้ว

      @MiaWaugh: Really? Is this "Black Ralph" character around later in Wanda Young Rogers' life? Because the story I know is she became the wife of The Miracles' Bobby Rogers in December, 1963. They had two children, Robert, Jr, and Bobbae. Raynoma Gordy Singleton mentions that Wanda Rogers witnessed the (mistaken identity) shooting death of her sister. From that time on, she began drinking and using drugs. Her husband, coming off the road, would find her under the influence. She was incapable of caring for their children. Mr. Rogers got sole custody of his children. I've never heard of "Black Ralph."

    • @michellekirkendall818
      @michellekirkendall818 ปีที่แล้ว

      Then, she had other relationships later; had two daughters, Meta and Miracle. Miracle was murdered in Inkster about seven years ago. I think Wanda did some singing with the late Gladys Horton some years ago. So, this "Black Ralph"story is different.
